How to Plan the Perfect Ski Trip to Zell am See, Austria

Absolutely fabulous winerschnitzel and baked potatoes. Really clean rooms. Friendly staff. Nice views. Loved it. The only downside (and there is none) is that it's not in a big town so you don't have a choice of restaurant. But theirs is so good, why would you want a choice?

Outstanding Austrian traditional fare. Gorgeous location among the mountains. Easy parking. Walk into the corner patio door to the restaurant and wait to be seated. There's an English menu, just ask. My spinach dumplings with vegetables was excellent. Its a bread based dumpling mixed with spinach and shaped into 2 huge balls. It's nestled among assorted fresh cooked vegetables. The vegetables were cooked to soft yet firm. The sauce was clear, light and sprinkled with maybe parsley. Perfect. Along came a bowl of salad. I was so into eating I didn't take a photo. On the top was greens and sprouts. Underneath was fresh made saurkraut, grated carrots and thin sliced cucumbers. This served best to cleanse the palate and refreshing in between dumpling bites. On its own it's lovely. Plunge into this dish with knife, fork, and napkin on your lap. Layer up your fork for one delicious mouthful after another. The dumpling is moist, tasty and a nice contrast to the assorted vegetables and herbs. The lady across from me was remarking how excellent her meat dish was, and she's Austrian. The servers were professional and friendly. Ask for the bill bitte (please) when you're ready. Let them know "carte" for credit card so they will bring the machine. Welan Dunke! This is an excellent restaurant to try classic dishes if you want to experience the culinary delights of Austrian cuisine. Guten Apetit!

Gasthof Steinerwirt is located on the border between Austria and Germany. It is 15 km away from Salzburg. We had an amazing apartment with 2 rooms and balcony on the 2nd floor. Breakfast has many different options. Besides ham, cheese, cereals, joghurt, juices, bakery, few types of breads, fruits, you can order eggs. Guesthouse has a nice restaurant, where we eat once and left happy with the food served (Wiener Schnitzel and Salad with chicken breast). Steinerwirt is built in the place surrounded by nature and hills. I would even say, it is a tranquil farmer piece of land, where you are not disturbed by city noise. It you like hiking, there are plenty possibilities. All personnel is very friendly and helpful. It is carefully decorated in the rooms and corridors. I liked that no one entered the room throughout our stay, since there was a sign on the door “Do not disturb”.

Stayed for three nights, while at a work retreat and cannot rave enough about how lovely the service was, how pretty the rooms were, and how good the food was. Great views and walks in every direction. Would happily go back.

The staff and service is excellent. Good location inspite its on countryside easy to reach Salzburg and the sorrunding turist atractions. The room is cosy the bed is comfortable the heating is appropriate. The cleaning service is helpfull. The xmas decoration in entire hous was beautiful. The coffee machine makes super espresso and cappucino.|The breakfast choice could be wider. You can get sausages and cheeses what you could buy in any Hoffer or Billa. We missed the local farmer products. Dinner in restaurant was forgettable.

I stayed in the Gasthof for one night when traveling to the Balkans. It was only for one night but I could have easily stayed longer. It was easily accessible from the highway and easy to find.||We were very warmly welcomed by a great young man in proper lederhosen. Way to set the scene! Also the ladies were wearing dirndl and were all equally friendly and welcoming. We arrived late in the afternoon and unfortunately did not have time to check out the surroundings. It looked gorgeous though. The room was very, very spacious with a beautiful view over the mountains from the balcony. The bathroom was simple but also very generously sized. It all felt very homely and authentic.||We had dinner in the restaurant and the service was good, as well as the food. The waiter (same chap as the one that check us in), was very merry and had some good menu suggestions. Dinner was reasonably priced at 60 euro for 2, for a main course and dessert. Quality was good.||We had a wonderful sleep, must have been the fresh air, the darkness and the silence. What a tranquil place. Looked awesome to set out for a hike from. The only thing that could do with some improvement was the wifi in the room, but perhaps we were just a bit too far from the router. However, if you're in such a gorgeous place you should really be outside enjoying walks and views rather than staring at a screen. All in all a wonderful place for a short or longer stop.
