Once upon a time this was a pleasant little Italian restaurant. Either it has changed hands or the management has just stopped caring. These people simply have no clue about what Italian food is, or what good food is. Inferior ingredients, sloppy presentation, bad service. From dreadful food all the way to flat draft beer. Why do Johannesburgers put up with this rot?
I ordered a Caesar salad, my partner ordered a spaghetti arrabiata.
Firstly the Caesar salad arrived with a heap of greasy fried chicken bits on top, whereas the menu offers chicken as an optional extra which I did not ask for. Honest mistake, I'm sure most people order it with chicken (at this establishment the chicken is seriously dripping in oil though)
I sent it back, and when it returned, it was a plate of lettuce (not Cos lettuce which a Caesar strictly should have) covered in bacon bits, with a boiled egg cut into quarters. Oh, and some fried noodle looking things which were obviously their answer to croutons. No anchovies. No dressing of any kind, never mind Caesar dressing (which is quite specific, and what entitles something to be called a Caesar Salad.) I asked why their were no anchovies, and the sheepish waiter said "we are out of anchovies". It's the key ingredient of a Caesar salad.
The arrabiata was just the most bland and pitiful plate of Fattis and Monis with no tomato flavour, no hint of chili, and accompanied by the classic dive-restaurant condiments of forlornly stale Parmesan and rancid chili in oil.
And the draft beer was flat.
This kind of restaurant should not be rewarded with our patronage!
It is clearly a case of shocking management. When my partner went to complain to the manager there was no apology forthcoming, and he remained skulking behind the bar where he seems to have dug in.
