Stever's Candies ~ Homemade Candy Since 1946

Such a cute place! We went on a Saturday, and it was a bit crowded since it was the Christmas season. They had beautifully decorated candies and chocolates, some of which were already gift wrapped. The staff was very efficient, and they offered free gift wrapping as well. I highly recommend this place of you love candies or are planning to buy them as gifts.

A Rochester gem! I live in NYC but visit Rochester often, and Stever’s is always a must-stop for me. Their homemade chocolates are absolutely delicious—rich, fresh, and clearly made with love and care. Every time I’m in town, I pick up a box for myself and a few more for friends back home. Everyone raves about them! The staff is always kind and helpful, and the shop has such a cozy, nostalgic feel. Stever’s is a true local treasure. Highly recommend!

Excellent staff, cute place, and a pretty nice selection of candy! Stopped here just to check it out, and ended up walking out with a Father's Day present and DEFINITELY too much for myself, lol!

It's a nice little chcolates and hard candy candy shop. I loved it, and when I asked about customizing, the owner was ready to here my request and willing to try it out. The candy is really tasty too.

I just moved to Rochester, and googled Easter chocolates, and decided to give them a try. I bought quite a bit for baskets. It felt a little pricey, till I got it home and realized I bought all this without sampling first. What seemed like a small box of coconut clusters, after opened, realized it is really condensed packaging, and really held more than I expected. And it's the kind of chocolate that satisfies you immediately. It is awesome, and I feel good about my purchases. I will be a faithful customer.

No doubt about it they have the best Dark Chocolate Marshmallow Candy in the World. Thank You Stevers for making my life a little sweeter!

The best chocolate around and now gelato that’s also delicious! The interior is adorable and the staff is always so helpful.

Stopped in the other day while meeting friends for dinner on Park. Plenty of selections to choose from, and clerks working behind the counter were helpful and courteous. Prices are a bit high, but it's local, and delicious so worth it. Found a few novelty items as well that will make great gifts. Definitely will be back when on Park Ave, thanks for the delicious peppermint patties and dark chocolate nonpareils.

What a cute little hidden gem of Rochester! These homemade chocolates are reminiscent of the candy makers of the past...delicious! The staff were so sweet to help us figure out what to order. We will definitely be back!!

Lived in park ave for a year and never stopped here until now! Candies are so reasonably priced and tasty! The place is super charming. Also please try the marzipan!! Big fan.

Best chocolate in town, hands down. I'm bummed the lot across the street is no longer free but that's not Stever's fault or other businesses on this street. I love their chocolate croquets, their dark chocolate salted caramels, their PB cups. They make great options for teacher gifts, Easter baskets, host gifts or yourself. Plus they just remodeled the place so it's more open and spacious.

I've been a customer since I moved to New York nearly twenty years ago, stopping in once or twice a year, for chocolates to mark special occasions. I've always loved the exceptional and friendly service, not to mention the enormous selection; by large this place is a wonderland of confectionary delights. For years, I've said there's no place like Stever's Candies! The company was sold to a new owner outside of the Stever family recently and they have put forth considerable effort to remodel the store to give it a fresh new look. I wish they had spent some time running the business first, though. We are in the midst of the winter holiday season and their stock is limited. The worker at the counter said that "production is behind due to the remodel." When your business is to sell candy, and you do not have any candy to sell, that does not bode well. I wish the new folks great success in their endeavor and hope that they manage to get it together. Their chocolate and candies, historically, have been wonderful!

I have been shopping here for many years. A new owner took over and completely gutted it and it looks absolutely horrible. They have less supplies less candy than they ever used to this year. They had signs that said we're running out of candy. That's never happened in past years yeah, the old system they had was crowded, but it worked. Do you ever hear the saying don't fix what is brokethey have way less items to choose from, and they have in the past they will not stay in business since the new people took over it just looks absolutely horrible in there. They should've kept it exactly the same as when they bought it.

I come here EVERY YEAR at this time. I came today (Tuesday midday). I think this is the last time. 2 young ladies at the counter were very bothered that I wanted some of my $287 purchases wrapped - they offer gift wrapping as part of the cost. As soon as I asked they rolled their eyes and looked at each other - to which I replied "you seem bothered that I asked for wrapping". They were unaffected by my disappointment. How dare we, the consumer, have reasonable expectations! I have experienced a bit of this in years past at Stever's, but not this blatant. Their products are quality but a bit overpriced. Chocolate/candy is a luxury and I don't mind paying for good quality and service. But I do expect both. I don't expect this review make a difference. But if I was the owner or manager I would like to know when costumer expectations are not met.

The interior has been ruined with the tacky pink and white. No charm at all. Less selection and quality is not up to standard. Smaller piece sizes too. Lay out is not conducive to large crowds. I usually spend $200 at Easter and again at Christmas. Not anymore. The dark chocolate/orange foil easter egg was the worst I've ever had. Instead of a nice cream filling, it was runny and way to sugary. Usually at Easter time you couldn't get in the door without waiting in a line when the original owners had it. Today there were only 6 people in the store. Too bad they kept the name, because the place isn't living up to the original owner's reputation.

So glad to see the renovations complete - much easier to view items than in the past. Great selection as always! So glad to see the original floor intact . A few hiccups w check out lines, but as with any new ownership in any business, they'll get ironed out w experience. It's the season to show patience and grace

I'm really hoping that the new owners just need a little time to get their bearings because they are losing tons of business right now as they are choosing not to take orders online and in store due to "staffing". What has always made Stevers stand out amongst competitors is not only their delicious candy but also their amazing customer service. Their small town feel has always made them my preference for shipping orders to friends though out the year as well as my first choice for any gifting I need to do. My excitement about the remodel has fizzled as I'm not able to place orders and have watched customers be treated badly in the store because they needed service during a busy time. So sad.

Stevers candies are excellent, but their customer service is awful. If you are hoping to get anything custom boxed, don't bother. Or plan on a half hour at least, before being acknowledged. And be prepared for them to wait on all other customers first Again, they have great chocolate, poor customer service.

So disappointed today when I entered the store to see that every remnant of the store I've shopped in for 30 plus years has been removed. The quaint charm of the place has been laminated over in white and stainless steel. The once warmth of the store is now cold, and akin to a convenient store. Some of the staples I have bought there over the years were not available...I was told they were sold out!!! Sold Out?? That never happened before, EVEN two days before Christmas some years! The store was sold to a non-family member a year ago and they have put their own 'stamp' on it. I wish them well on their new venture, but they've lost an old patron! The Andy's candy kiosk in Eastview Mall is more inviting than the 'new' 'Stever's!! What a MISTAKE!!!

*STEVER'S IS CURRENTLY SHIPPING AND OFFERING TAKEOUT ORDERS DURING COVID-19* Stever's is overwhelming in a chocolate way, aka the BEST way! I've waited in lines around Christmas and honestly it is the best experience. It seems like all of Rochester is there to grab some treats for their family and celebrations, and it provides a real sense of community. The goodies speak for themselves but I do have a few favorites/staples that I love to give as gifts or, let's be honest, eat my dang self. Chocolate dipped oreos are number one in my heart forever. I see these and feel like the world will all be okay. They come in a bunch of different sizes for gifts and are found year round (I think.) Let's move on to BARK. The bark is *finger kiss.* Tons of different kinds, all of which completely amazing. Just a reminder that Stever's has chocolate dipped TWINKIES. I've never had one but if there's ever been a time to order chocotwinkies...this is IT.

If you're looking for a candy shop... no, wait... any sort of shop who caters to their customers it's Stever's. It's no wonder they have been around for decades. The staff certainly does carry on the tradition set forth by the Stever family. We had ordered Easter candy this past spring to be sent to our great niece and nephew, 6 yr old twins in Franklin, TN. We did this from our home in FL. While the website is not the easiest to maneuver when placing an online order, they are more than willing to help when you call them. The twins, our nephew and his wife were so pleased with the Easter candy, we decided to order Halloween candy. The twins were so excited with the Easter treats... they each had their own little package of sweets to open. Time got away from us, so we weren't able to place our order until yesterday, Oct. 27th. We called the store, Danielle was so accommodating. Danielle pulled up our shopping cart on her PC, packed our order and assured us it would go out yesterday. This morning we were able to track the package, and it is scheduled for delivery right on Halloween. You owe it to yourselves, in this day and age of no customer service, to go to this delightful shop for all your confection needs. Tell them Lori from Florida sent you! You won't be disappointed.

A Rochester tradition! If you have never been - go now! Perfect place to pick up some sweet hostess gifts for the hOliday season! I'd highly recommend the melt always (mint and dark chocolate) and the peanut brittle! Wonderful service and selection - support a local small business!

Your local homemade candy store in the heart of Park Avenue. They gave a big selection of chocolates for Easter. You can pretty much find any mold made of chocolate for that special someone. They also carry sugar free candy. Be prepared to stand in line during the holidays as it is a busy time and they limit the store to 8 people due to Covid.

Who doesn't love candy! Stopped here on a recent walk down Park Ave. I haven't been here in years, but it hasn't changed. Such a great variety of chocolates and candies! The staff is super friendly! Stever's is a staple on Park Ave with excellent chocolates! I had one goal with my recent trip, which was their caramel apples that they have in the fall on Fridays & Saturdays only. I got the sea salt fudge caramel apples that they make with granny smith variety for $5 ea. Apples were crisp, tart and perfect with thin layer of gooey caramel and small amount of fudge and crunch of sea salt. They also have some other flavors such as M&M covered caramel apples. Keep them refrigerated prior to taking off the paper as recommended, makes it much easier to cut and serve. I picked up a couple Halloween chocolates for my nephews and they loved the chocolate pumpkin pops. Parking on the street usually isn't that bad, keep in mind Park Ave area tends to be busier Saturday mornings. Service is always friendly. Stever's is always worth a stop, but don't go hungry!

Always a great idea to pop j to Stever's to get gifts for your fellow chocolate lovers. I am only in town for a month or two out of the year and it's always such a treat to pick up my family's favorite assortments and bring them back to California. I am a forever fan. Such nice workers and the quality is top notch.

Stepping into this location is as if you died and went to chocolate heaven. Just the absolute best to help with keeping your chocolate cravings at bay.

Stever's Candies!! Wow!! I found this place while I was sitting in a Greyhound bus terminal in Rochester, N.Y. I just ordered their assorted box of chocolates...WOW!! Hand made candy! Creams, carmels, nuts and chews in a beautiful box delivered to my door. You have to try this candy, it is so good and unlike any other...

Long wait outside in the cold, because they let only a few people indoors at a time due to COVID, plus it was holiday season, but the truffles were totally worth it! This place is a gem!

I had the good fortune to live within a block of Stever's for 7 years, and during that time I fell in love with their chocolate. They are a Rochester institution, owned and operated by the same family for decades. Their selection of chocolates is unparalleled in Rochester and I especially love all of their Rochester (lilacs, skyline) solid-chocolate molds, which I always pick up for friends and family abroad when I travel overseas. I am also a fan of their homemade (chocolate-covered, of course) marshmallows and their chocolate covered mints. And when chocolate-covered berries are in season, I have to stop in and grab a treat just for myself. They are also great for birthdays, holidays (especially Easter and Xmas), and they offer lots of different seasonal treats, like sponge candy. Note that they are always busy, and they work pretty hard, so they usually close for all of the month of July (not Aug as noted in my original review) for vacation. Also, they don't have any parking lot of their own, but there is free street parking and parking in the 7-11 lot across the street.

Some of the candy is pretty good. I personally am not from the area but since reviews were so I we went. The people that worked there were so incredibly rude I'd never return. Asked about the sponge candy and for employees they were not very helpful and for something that is supposed to be best best around... well, I highly disagree and was very disappointed.

Not my favorite chocolate place in Rochester, but they have a few novelty things I like, or like to give as gifts. (Hedonist has better quality chocolate). Stever's milk chocolate is too sweet for my taste, however, their sponge candy is my favorite in the area. That being said, their sponge candy prices keep going up, and the bag getting smaller. Their dark chocolate espresso bark is amazing. They do offer complimentary wrapping, which is nice.

Best vanilla caramels I've ever eaten! They are a holiday staple at our house - everyone asks for them!

Great customer service during the pandemic. They were very honest with customer's about ordering, shipping or pickup during the busy seasons.

I'm not normally a sweets person, but I know a lot of people who are so the majority of my visits to Stever's involve me purchasing chocolates for friends and family. They have so many wonderful options to appeal to any sweet tooth with gummies, chocolate-covered everything (milk chocolate and dark chocolate), filled chocolates, bears, heart-shaped things, and everything in between. Their selection is pretty fabulous in that space they're in. I recently discovered they have dark chocolate Swedish fish thanks to a friend recommendation and picked up a box (~$7) for my mom since those are her two favorite things. Can't wait to hear how she likes them. Right now, the place is stocked for Valentine's Day. I didn't realize until my latest visit that they also ship chocolates! A lady at the counter was sending personalized chocolate hearts to her family, which looked beautiful. Great to know that's an option - one less stop and super convenient especially for holidays or special occasions. This spot is where you go for the classic chocolate and sweet treats, their recipes are quality and their prices are very reasonable. I will be back more often for sure!

Stopped in the other day to buy some of the famous sponge candy of Rochester! I had to get my fill before heading back to Scotia. I bought two bags, one each of milk and dark chocolate. Then it became DANGEROUS. I began browsing. The next thing I knew I had chocolate covered Nutter Butters, chocolate covered Twizzlers and chocolate dipped wintergreen mints! This lead me to the case of individual chocolates. I have a new love......... It is like a nougat but much more dense and chewier. I chose orange and raspberry flavored ones dipped in dark chocolate. They were so chewy and the flavor lasted for ever in my mouth. I regret that I didn't buy more of those. Sadly, I ate them before I even left my friend's house to travel home. I will have to be happy with my sponge candy and all my other chocolate dipped treats. If you are in the Rochester area, stop in at Stever's. I suggest you follow their suggestion and take a basket when you walk in to hold all your candy. You think you won't need one......but you will!!!

I have always wanted to go in here, and I finally did. This place is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is homey and cute, the candies are wrapped up nicely, and the selection is very impressive. If you need a gift for anyone, you should come here. They have chocolate-shaped pretty much everything you can think of and many other types of candy. Even more than that, the chocolate is very good. I tried milk and dark, as well as coffee truffles and loved everything. I want to try the sponge candy. My one complaint is the really confusing pricing scheme. It seemed like prices were inconsistent (some things seemed like they should be higher than other things when they were lower), but I'm sure it's mostly due to my lack of understanding.

This is a must go to for all holidays in Rochester. Christmas, Valentine's and Easter must involve Stever's candies. I love the turtle candies and the chocolate covered raspberries (seasonal). The store is cute and it's a nice part of a shop local venture.

I live in California and unfortunately have never had the chance to visit Stever's Candy. My dad and his family grew up in the 1950s in Rochester visiting Stever's. My family moved out here I believe in the 1970 to CA. But we have since ordered every holiday season our Stever's chocolates. It's a Christmas staple in our household.

What a great place to visit for great chocolate! Being new to Rochester, I had to check out this store that has been around for many decades. If you want speciality handmade chocolate for any occasion, this is the place to come. Though a bit small, it has every thing from Willy wonka golden ticket bars, peanut butter cups, gummy bears, orange chocolate, and many other varieties. Stopping in right before Christmas, I was happy to see such a wide selection of speciality Christmas chocolate such as speciality shaped Christmas milk chocolates, ribbon candy and peppermint patties. They are known for their sponge chocolates which are made from malt and crunchy at first taste but than melts in your mouth. Glad they have such a long tradition in Rochester and happy to visit this family business store.

Clean store. Many options. Whether you buy for yourself, kids or fine gifts for business, you will find nice arrangements. Reasonable prices. We bought candies, dark chocolates and truffles. I love their dark chocolate. I can say it is much better than Godiva. If I go to Rochester again, definitely will stop and buy more.

I was missing New York sponge candy, and after trying a very poor comparison near me I decided to treat myself to a stockpile of goodies shipped from Stever's and I am so glad I did. First off, the timing was miraculously fast. I placed the order on Monday, and my package arrived a few days later on Thursday. And I was nervous about shipping sponge candy, but accepted that broken sponge candy might be the cost of a long distance order. Turns out I had nothing to worry about, Stever's packed everything so carefully - bubble wrap around the different sponge candy bags and even opening and resealing my box of chocolate covered marshmallows in order to add extra cushioning inside that inner box to prevent breakage. It shipped the same day I placed the order AND was packed with such care?! I was so impressed and appreciative. Also, it's right before Valentine's day, and they even sent me little/simple valentines day cards (business card size) and stickers with hearts in case I was gifting any of it on! Oh yeah, and the chocolates and sponge candy are hitting the spot. I am honestly so impressed with Stever's and highly recommend them, especially for out of towners. Who knew you could make someone feel like a valued customer without ever speaking with them? Stever's has done it.

I bought four boxes of "melt aways" from Stever's as gifts, when the recipient opened two of the boxes, they were missing pieces of candy. That's not nice, either the company is cheating their patrons or an employee is cheating the patrons! Not sure what's happening here but the next time I'm in the store I'm going to open the boxes before I leave to be sure I get a full box!

Stever's Candies is just so damn good. I live in NYC and they shipped my order during the COVID-19 pandemic. I am thinking of ordering again because hey it's a pandemic and if chocolate can make it better while supporting an amazing small business, why not? My favorite items are the milk chocolate rice crispy clusters and the dark chocolate orange peel. Those are to DIE FOR. The orange peels are wide and covered by a thick layer of chocolate. I've tried so many chocolate covered orange peels and these are my favorite by far. The chocolate covered marshmallows are also amazing, and the sponge candies are also SO GOOD. Thank you for shipping during COVID!! We will remember!

Just an update to my review. I am back and forth between the US and Iceland and at Christmas every year we get Quality Street in this big purple tin. Quality Street is a European candy that is filled with different flavored cremes. Anyway, they are expensive to ship and the strawberry creme filled ones are my absolute fav! You might only get a handful of that flavor though to last an entire Christmas season :( I took a chance and searched Stever's high and low for a dark chocolate strawberry creme candy and I found them! They are super comparable to Quality Street and now I can eat them ALL YEAR LONG! You don't even understand this level of excitement!!! My life is completely complete.

Ok, I've been here enough times and it's time for a review. I remember Fannie May back in Chicago, made in Chicago it's gone and I've not really found the same. Now this place is like a little wonderland of wonders. They even have low sugar things and etc. Hell they make Ribbon Candy.. It can't be shipped its WAYYYY to fragile. They carry dark & milk chocolate and all kinds of different things. It smells wonderful and the man who owns the place I believe is part of the family is great and very helpful. If you need assistance anyone there will help, they ship too. They do seasonal candies YUM.. I got the fresh raspberries in dark chocolate in June, they have all kinds of stuff for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah & Christmas and if you need to pick up and go you can call ahead. It's a must to go to to send something to family and friends. Just so much stuff to see and try.. If you can't find what you want ask. Closed in July. If your in the area go in, check it out you won't leave empty handed I never do! Cheers

I'm always completely overwhelmed by the amount of candy in this shop. There's so much chocolate and while you're just browsing and choosing your candies you end up right at the register! I got peanut brittles, malt balls, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, and hot chocolate makings! Limited myself to four...

Best handmade chocolates in the town! I really miss this place but every time I stop by whenever I am around Rochester, this place is closed. You really have to plan out on your trips because the hours of operation is quite limited- that's not to say I would give 4 stars at all. This candy store deserves all 5 stars. So far the best handmade chocolates I've tried in my life. I don't think it will change anytime soon.

WOW, this place is awesome. I came here after eating some brunch down the street and I did not expect much from this candy shop but was I suprised. Its chocolate galore in here, chocolate candies in every shape, flavor and size. They sell pre-packaged boxes, a-la carte candies, hundreds of little packaged ones everywhere, fudge by the 1/4 lb. This is a chocolate paradise. I picked up a few things and they were all really delicious. Glad I stopped by here on my visit to Rochester.

Neither my husband nor I are huge cake fans, so when it came to deciding on wedding desserts we opted for chocolates! We'd been huge fans of Stever's over the years we lived in Rochester, and though we moved before our wedding we had our hearts set on getting their candies for our day. The Stever's team was really helpful as we picked out about 40 boxes, covering ten different varieties of candy and then packing them up to be shipped out to California. The chocolates arrived exactly when we were expecting them, with not a single one melted or crushed. Thanks for making such affordable and delicious candies, and for making our day extra sweet!

I have been in a lot of specialty chocolate places but this is top on my list. The Chocolate covered esspresso beans are amazing and the raspberry jelly filled dark chocolates are to die for! Everything was fresh, the staff delightful and all in all a great experience!

This chocolate shop is adorable. And it smells so good!! When you go inside, prepare to be overwhelmed with choices! There is so much chocolate to choose from, and it is all so so so delicious! This is a must do for anyone visiting Rochester, and if you live in Rochester and haven`t been, what are you waiting for?? The silky smooth chocolate of your dreams await!

This place is the mecca of amazing candy that you want to shove in your face as fast as you can. They have all different kinds of chocolate, many different kinds of flavored candy, and always have a few odd things that you can try out (like bacon and eggs). The staff is awesome, they will help you find exactly what you want. For any holiday I always show up here, get a bunch of stuff I know people will love, and those are my presents for that holiday (and they are always a huge hit). It can be insanely busy so if you go at a peak time be prepared to wait. But if waiting in line at a popular place makes you angry, then go to a less popular one with worse candy!
