Stayed here for two nights and was the only foreign tourist amongst the Swedish families and small groups. This also explains why all information was only in Swedish, although the friendly staff spoke English of course. Rooms are basic, but that is as expected from a hostel. Membership, breakfast and sheets come at an extra charge. The breakfast was excellent (fresh baked bread or rolls, cheese, meats, yoghurt, muesli, juice and milk) and so were the dishes served for lunch and dinner. On the Saturday night the chef even prepared a BBQ feest! ||The island is tiny and other than exploring the fort and lazying on the beach, has not a lot to offer. (Water was extremely cold to swim in in July). However a nice place to relax if the weather is nice. Take the ferry from Stockholm and enjoy great views along the way.

Spent two nights at this island hostel out in the middle of the Swedish archipelego as part of a three day kayaking trip and had a blast! This early twentieth century hostel is located, in a sense is actually part of, a fort of a sort that was a comedy of errors. The story is too long to tell here but the tour is great! The hostel capitalizes on the island's history with a wonderful tour and with historical items and details throughout the building- ||The standard is very good for a hostel. Clean, well furnished- Ceilings are high, my room had a skylight, ||Remember though this is a hostel- bathrooms and showers are behind the main building but everything is newly renovated and in very good shape. The beds were simple but not sagging- I slept well. Some real plusses:||1. the food was very good indeed- we had three course dinners for two nights and really good brown bag lunches to take with us in the kayak||2. Service was excellent- can do attitude||3. A wonderful wood-burning sauna with a pier right up to the ocean.||||Getting here means taking a ferry from Stockholm so you have to plan ahead. the website explains it.

Small, I mean small, island but worth a full day (two nights) if the weather is nice. Quaint? At least not far from it and with nice staff. Great views all around the island. The old fortress is worth well worth a visit. And the sauna... Add the cruise ships and you got great views (with some action so to speak) for your dinner or evening fika.

Most of the island is a WWI fort turned into museum but there is beautiful nature and great opportunity to go swimming. Made a mistake and booked two room but the great staff helped me to get my money back. Less than two hours from Stockholm by boat.

If you're looking for a cheap, hassle free way to truly experience Stockholm's beautiful archipelago, then spending a night, or even just a day, at Siaröfortet is the way to go. Located a mere two hour boat ride from the city center the small island boast beautiful vistas, a quaint atmosphere and plenty of opportunities for swimming and basking in the sun. The island's inn is clean, charmingly rustik, easy on the wallet, has good food and a very friendly staff. The main attraction is of course Siaröfortet itself, an old millitary stronghold dating back to the 1920s. You can explore the fortress on your own or take part in the guided tour given once a day.

Cosy little island well worth a visit. The hostel uses an old (WWI) military facility so expect charming, not modern. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is simple (bread, eggs, müsli and yoghurt, coffee and juice) but good. We could smell the homemade bread from our room telling us it was time for breakfast. Suitable both for families and couples. And if your playing Wizards unite - this island is crazy in a good way! I haven't seen this much popping up even in the middle of Stockholm.

We booked a 4 day package arranged by Blidösundsbolaget via Siaröfortet last summer, 2013. Things can always go wrong, and they did - big time! - it's how a company handles the problem that is the key. ||||The entire story is way too long but when we had enough and ended the trip, one day early, they were very understanding at Siaröfortet and we were promised, on the spot, that we would get a full refund. Nothing happened however but after a couple of calls we were finally told that we would still get a full refund but as they needed to convince one boss, who didn't think we should get the refund, they would start by refunding one third of the promised refund, and after a reminder we received a quarter of the refund. That was the last we heard... ||||We're approaching summer again and let's just say that the group we intended to take on the same trip this upcoming summer will be doing something else...

Vandrarhemmet är jättefint. Trevlig personal, god mat.
