I´ve stayed here once a year for the last 4 years. The place used to be the living quarters for the former fire station in Östersund. It is located two blocks from down town, easy walkable distance. Plenty of parking on the streets around (the hostel has a few spaces on the court yard for parking, but I´ve never managed to snag one, not even once, during four stays... ). If arriving by train the stop Östersund Västra is closest, and the bus station is also close by. ||Since this has been the dormitory for the fire fighters the layout of the place is very good. Some rooms have private bathrooms, others do not. Some rooms have access to the patio straight from the room, some do not. Some with bunkbeds, some with IKEA-beds. Just ask when booking to make sure you get the kind of room and layout you like. ||The common rooms are functional and well equipped, with a dining room, a TV-room and a library/social area as well as two patios, a big kitchen with three separate stove-sets, two zinks and a huge fridge with labeled small shelves for each room. ||Shared baths are gender specific, there is a washing machine and during staffed opening hours a small shop in the reception.||The wifi used to be good, this last visit it was horrendous! I had better service from the free wifi from the 24-hour gym in the basement of the building...and even that was poor. Also, the type of guests that stay here have changed. It used to be a quiet, family oriented place, this last time it was more like party central. Sadly the young staffers never seem to get the nerve to ask the loud guests to shut up. ||The bathrooms have seen some wear, and bunk beds with thin foam mattresses does not make for a great night´s sleep.||Still, the price is unbeatable for this standard in Östersund, so I´ll probably be back next year again.
