Stingray Goh Chew Kee Seafood

First time trying this stall cause of the fairly good reviews. Ordered a large bbq stingray, kailan and sambal lala. The stingray was very soft and mushy. Doesn’t have a firm texture of fresh stingray. The lala also didn’t taste very fresh. A disappointing meal overall.

With 83 food and drink stalls, this is one of the largest hawker / food centres in Singapore. Watch out for the prices. When something like Tiger Prawn is quoted at $8 on the signboard, it means $8 per 100g, not per dish. A typical tiger prawn is 250g, i.e. easily ~$20 each. Also note that weight is based on pre-cooking, i.e. expect water loss and cooked version to be lighter. Ditto for all other seafood dishes that charges by weight. Great meal with some local favourites. Never knew the popularity of this particular stall, and it's away from the madness of Newton FC. Located closer to the parking lot, no. 19 serves all the local seafood delights. We ordered a sambal stingray, cereal prawns, and some fried mantou. All of it was served hot and fresh. The prawns were chunky and crispy while the sambal stingray was oozing with flavour. Mop up the sauces with the hot mantous, and you are in food heaven. Cost us 44 sgd for the entire meal, and it was well worth it.

I ordered the cereal prawn, but I was served a different dish instead. At the time, I didn’t realize the mistake, but after getting home and reviewing the menu and pictures, I discovered that the dish I received was not what I ordered. I paid $18, yet what I received was just a single prawn, which seemed more like a $5–10 item. This left me very disappointed, as it was not worth the price and not the dish I intended to order.

I got the sambal stingray to go since I was curious, and it was delicious! It's not much different from other fish, but the sauce was pleasantly sweet. I want to try it again when I'm not full from having two previous dinners haha.

Awesome stingray fish. Veggies laced with garlic. Carrot cake which you see here is not sold here but from the restaurant around here. Look for the guy called - Good man. That’s what he proclaims himself to be. The weight of fish and price are reasonable for this Newton circus hawker center is famous for its notoriety ! But trust me. U get right price for ur meal !!

This place has the best Sambal Stingray in Singapore. The sambal sotong is amazing too. Recently tried their Baby Sotong and was blown away by the flavors and super crispy. It also has that smokey wokhey flavor. They are located near the toilets and facing the car park. I've been to this stall more than 10 years ago when they were located within the inner section of the hawker. There used to be a rocker style dude with a bandaba who serves and takes orders for them if anyone remembers. After the renovation they somehow got pushed to the outer parameters. It's really sad that not much people know about this stall but they are really friendly and the seafood is amazing.
