Stirling Old Town Jail

I visited Old Town Jail on Sunday 15th February and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The location is excellent, right in the heart of Stirling, and the free parking made the visit even more convenient and stress-free. The experience itself was both fun and informative. There’s so much fascinating history to take in, with plenty to read and explore throughout the building. It’s clear that a lot of effort has gone into presenting the jail’s past in an engaging and accessible way. A special mention to Emily, who was absolutely brilliant in her role — she really brought the stories to life and made the visit memorable. The other gentleman who performed was also excellent (sorry I didn’t catch his name!), and together they made the experience entertaining as well as educational. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable visit and well worth the time. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Stirling!

Great wee find! Staff are amazingly friendly, informative, and helpful. Heather's tour was brilliant. She really draws you in to her characters. And ready to recommend a great local lunch spot! Darnley's was a fantastic shout. Thank you, guys.

You will need an hour to complete your visit. The first half is led by David, who skillfully tells the story of the jail by acting characters from the time in a very humourous and exciting way. You are then invited to spend the rest of your visit independently exploring the spaces and displays. There's a great view of Stirling from the top of the jail.

Very nice tour of the old jail, first 30 minutes are with a guide that plays several characters from the past. Very informative and funny. Second 30 minutes is just you walking around. Only £14 pp as adults. Highly recommend even the walk up the hill.

We had a brilliant time at Jail, Helen was a brilliant guide/actor and the way she switched between characters was quick and funny. What made it better for me, she picked on my husband lol. It could be quite a lot for young children but it was fun. The tour is shortish but it gives some good history about the jail. The staff in the ticket office was lovely and helpful too.

We bought the Stirling City Pass for a day, and were able to get a tour on a Sunday for our family of 8. It was a surprisingly amazing experience and highly recommend. Our tour guide was a great performer and very animated. He provided excellent insights to the history of the jail in a captivating way. He promoted audience participation. It was worth going up the tower for the view of the city center.

Absolutely amazing experience ! Our guide was Adam and he was incredible ! Such a great performer and you really could feel history coming to life. He was also very kind to me after the tour, when he saw I was disabled and came to explain to me where the elevators where to make my visit easier for my mobility issues. The views from the tower are spectacular. Really worth a visit !

So much fun. We did the performance tour. It is not to be missed! David is splendid. We also did the Empty Cell escape room. Challenging and lots of fun. Highly recommend both the tour and an escape room.

I wasn't much impressed with this attraction, got a couple of funny photos booking into jail which was the highlight of the visit, the rest was pretty boring and for the price you don't get much for your money. I expected more.

What a place! We went two days in a row. Day one to do an excellent Escape Room, day two for a tour of the jail itself. The highlight of the latter was the actor leading you through the history of the jail. Educational, enjoyable and exciting. A great place to visit in Stirling.

This building is NO LONGER a tourist attraction. Instead it is offices and home to a few business, including Creative Stirling. Creative Stirling frequently hold events in the jailyard - recent highlights have been the food festival Feastival, and they have music nights too. Creative Stirling have recently been granted permission to use the bottom floor of the jail, so will be opening this up to the public in the future.

Not your average tour! Loved the actors and history at this old jail house. Interesting stories of the people who worked there and prisoners too. Great 360 degrees view of Stirling at the top of jail house! Views of the old bridge and Wallace Monument. Well worth the L6.50.

The family was at a loose end and I remember visiting The Wallace Monument in Stirling last year and having a picnic outside in the park area. The kids wanted to visit Stirling's Old Town Jail but we ran out of time last year. I took them along this year and the forecast was for the usual sunshine and showers but what a fantastic place Stirling Old Town is, the Old Town Jail is a little creepy but well worth a visit. Most of the staff are friendly but not the hangman or the prison warder. The parking was free and just outside the Old Jail.

While visiting on holiday, we went to Stirling to tour the castle and randomly stopped at the old jail. We LOVED the tour! The tour guide, David was amazing. We learned about the old town jail and he made us laugh the entire time. It was so much fun. I would recommend attending if you are in Stirling.
