Stoa of Attalos - Museum of the Ancient Agora

The Museum in the Stoa of Attalos is one of the best in all of Athens! It is a must before touring the Ancient Agora. It is in some respects the museum of democracy given the artifacts the museum holds related to the Athenian democracy. It also has artifacts from different periods of ancient Athens. I must see when in Athens.

The Museum of the Ancient Agora is housed in the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos, originally erected during the 2nd cent. BC as a gift of the king of Pergamon, Attalos II, to Athens. The exhibition in the Museum gallery holds archaeological finds coming from the systematic excavations of the American School of Classical Studies in the area and dated from the Neolithic to the Post-byzantine and Ottoman periods.

Part of Ancient Agora ticketed area. Free museum entry, with a mini shop, toilet and water refill fountain. There is also a second floor with breathtaking landscape views and several art pieces display.

A really cool place to sit, take your time, and truly learn about the ancient Agora. It offers a calm and engaging environment where you can read, reflect, and immerse yourself in the history. There are some fascinating artifacts and well-preserved structures that give you a vivid sense of the culture and daily life from that era. The informational displays are thoughtfully presented, and there are plenty of great photo opportunities along the way. A must-visit for history lovers or anyone curious about ancient Athens.

An amazing visit that’s well worth the €20 entry fee. You get to explore the birthplace of democracy, along with a free museum that features incredible pottery, statues, and the story behind the area.

Impressive location. Entrance fee is part of the ticket for Ancient Agora site and it is worth it. A pitty that the first floor was temporarily closed. Maybe next time

Lovely place. The statues are amazing. There's a very cool indoors section with jewellery and vases. The mosaic outside was one of the coolest things I've seen. And not to mention that it's a part of a whole complex so to get there you get to go through this amazing park that also has a lot of ruins, statues and the temple of Hephaestus.

An astonishing collection on site within a building that brings to life the architecture of ancient Greece. A must for anyone visiting the ancient Agora of Athens, the place where all that we marvel at today happened. Enjoy!
