Stobo Castle Health Spa

Just returned from a 2 night package with my cousin and her daughter, which was thoroughly enjoyable. This was my 3rd visit to Stobo and certainly will be looking forward to more visits in the future. ||The facilities, fitness classes, and food were of high quality and enjoyable. However, there are areas for improvement.||1) The wait staff in dining rooms are very friendly and polite (as were all staff at Stobo that I encountered). But there were issues with their approach to taking orders and meal provision. Quite a few times had to catch the attention of the staff to take order after waiting for a more than considerable time to look at menu and make choices, and there were issues with the staff knowing what the soup of the day was and what specials were available. There doesn't appear to be a senior wait person in charge to oversee the more junior staff. Even when my cousin informed reception at check out of the dining experience she was informed that an email re her concerns had been sent to the head chef, which left us wondering why the head chef would be in charge of the wait staff. |2) Although the spa treatments were enjoyable despite my cousin and myself having the same therapist for the same treatment we both had different experiences without requesting any differences in the treatment approach. For example I had a Head Massage which included a facial, neck and arm massage and my cousin only got her arms massaged. She had not instructed the therapist for arms only.|3) We were there to celebrate my cousin's daughter's 21st and she got a postcard in room wishing her a Happy Birthday. I have been to places of similar price and quality to Stobo, these places providing small gifts (once a handful of edibles and once a set of travel toiletries) for such similar special occasions.

This was my first time visiting Stobo. I got gifted a 2 night stay with my mum and cousin as part of my 21st birthday. We stayed in the seymour room which was lovely. Great views and the beds were extremely comfortable and the room was very clean. Upon entry we were given a very nice welcome and the young boy at the door offered to help with bags. It was a very easy check in process and we booked our meal times straight away with no issues. The spa facilities were amazing only thing I would comment on is there seemed to be a lot of towels left on the loungers that weren’t in use which is no fault of staff. I had treatments aswell which were all amazing. The spa receptionist was extremely attentive and helped me change my treatment time to allow to me to go the Pilates which I was very grateful for. Jo the Pilates instructor was very friendly and made the class very fun and enjoyable. |The food was divine and to a very high standard. However the service wasn’t the best I felt that the waiting staff weren’t very knowledgeable of the dishes or specials and we had to ask on a few occasions if we could order. |Both the young staff members one girl and one young boy in the cafe area next to the spa reception were absolutely amazing. 2 very polite and friendly individuals and knew what they were doing.|Definitely would recommend a visit to the Japanese water gardens if you are able. Only a 5 minute walk from the castle and such lovely views! |Would definitely come back again, I feel very rested and recharged after my stay.

My mum and myself have been visiting Stobo for around 20+ years now but this was our first time visiting for new year with our wider family. What can I say other than WOW! |What an absolute treat for new year. Stunning setting, excellent food, excellent service from the minute we arrived to the time we left and a new year's eve we won't forget for a while. We stayed in Castle Lodge which was delightfully decorated and immaculate (not a spider or cobweb in sight as per a previous review). Champagne reception was delightful ahead of dinner, sumptuous three course dinner with wine, then the band for the evening was absolutely fabulous. What an amazing evening. The service was a bit slow at dinner but what do you expect on such a big night with lots of guests and staff who have probably volunteered to work that night forgoing time with their own family and friends. All staff were excellent but a special mention to Ashley on reception/ dining room welcome and the amazing bar staff on new year's eve - they deserve praise for managing so well with all of our thirsty requirements. Could not fault a thing and subject to my family's availability next year, we will be there in a heartbeat. Thank you Stobo for a family experience we won't forget.

Stobo Castle for me is heaven on earth! just simple luxury, where it meets all spa needs & wants! |i always go with a group of friends, who like me just cant get enough of the place, |from the drive down to the entrance of the Castle your experience has already begun! |Staff here are so friendly, helpful & talk to you like you’re there every week! We always go down early to catch lunch before heading to our rooms, Lunch menu is always so delicious that its very difficult to decide, but when i do choose what to eat, it never disappoints! I am sure their head Chef Stephen King has been built in with the bricks & food here is top notch! in 20+ years i have been visiting i have never had to complain or send back food! what i do send back though…. is an empty plate! Stunning food from breakfast through to dinner…|Rooms are warm, well equipped and also stunning, beds are like sleeping on clouds! best nights rest for us all! |Spa facilities are fantastic, also quiet spots all around to just sit and recharge..|i could write a story about this place! |trust me when i say you will want to go back again & again & again , you will! |Thank you Stobo xxx

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ simply incredible! The location is absolutely stunning, surrounded by beautiful scenery that makes it the perfect escape. The food is amazing—every meal felt like a treat. I enjoyed my stay so much that I actually booked another one on the day I left! The staff are welcoming and make you feel completely looked after. Thank you for such a fantastic experience—can’t wait to return! 🙏🏻

I’ve been coming to Stobo for 21 years with my aunty, who’s been coming since Stobo opened. Lots of changes over the years but mostly for the better. |We are very fortunate that we stay for 3 nights & do lots of walking in that time, & I enjoy the pool & all the steam rooms. The ambiance is so relaxed & welcoming.|The food is amazing - we both thought it was better than our previous visit in March. Huge compliments to Stephen & staff. I wish you still did the lunchtime buffet however! |We stay in the single rooms. I have Melrose, my aunty in Dreva. Melrose is lovely & light. The upgraded en suite is fabulous, & the addition of the nespresso coffee maker was a great surprise. Dreva is darker, could benefit from more lighting, maybe in the wardrobe/cupboard & doesn’t have a heater in the bathroom. Minor things but would make the room better! |Look forward to being back next Sept!

We went for the evening, it is lovely, staff and facilities are great. Only issue is I was there with my husband, and , although we paid the same, he had less facilities to use. Ladies have 3 extra steam rooms and showers. This meant that we weren't able to be together and I felt I had to curtail my use of them somewhat. The facilities should be available to all or, Gents should be paying less.

Wow! What an incredible stay my husband and I had. Our children bought us a Spa overnight stay as a present for our Golden Wedding Anniversary. We were not quite sure it was 'our thing'. How wrong were we!! The food was incredible. The service was brilliant. The facilities fabulous. The grounds and scenery stunning and to top it off, the Hot stones massage was totally amazing. We will definitely be back. Thank you everyone at Stobo Castle. You made everything perfect for us.

Lost a bit of its sparkle Can't believe I am not raving about my Stobo Castle experiences as I did in my previous visit unfortunately this time I can't, this was my second visit and my daughters fourth and both of us discussed there are some issues . We initially booked to stay in castle rooms which are located just a short walk away from the main castle, on arrival at our designated room we were shocked at the standard of the room it was no more than premier inn room. We called reception and asked to me moved to main castle, we paid an upgrade price of £10 each, however we feel let down by reception staff as they didn't ask at any point why we wanted to move rooms, therefore we didn't have an opportunity to give them our thoughts. Room changed, we quickly unpacked and headed to the spa area, this as usual was superb, facilities exactly the same as previous visits, one small point is that it was quite untidy and there were no staff around to clean up Dinner is between 6&8pm we decided not to join other guests but dined as a 2. Starters were okay, mains however were not great, extremely fatty lamb chops, oily gravy, a fennel side dish which was strange. We also noticed that other diners had different veg on their dishes surely all lamb plates should be served the same? When our plates where being cleared we were asked how the food was we politely gave our views only to be told lamb by it's nature is a fatty meat, we are well aware that lamb is fatty but there are methods to stop this being served to guests! Breakfast was ok next morning but we felt that all the cooked items had been in an oven for a wee bit too long Lunch in departure day was nice, we opted for cold buffet we were surprised to see fatty lamb chops being served again only this time they were cold New addition of the cocktail bar is great Not sure what has changed but it most definitely wasn't as good as our previous visits and at around £300 per night for 2 it's not the cheapest

My friend decided that she was too sophisticated for the traditional Hen Night featuring L plates, a veil, a stripper and sambuca shots a plenty and instead opted for a spa weekend at Stobo Castle. It hard work being a bridesmaid and getting dragged to luxury castle spas *sigh*. As much as there is nothing wrong with Stobo Castle I don't really see what all the fuss is about either. It has to be Scotland's most famous spa but I personally believe there are much better ones out there. I prefer a little hidden gem to Stobo which is advertised on the TV and full of tourists. In saying that though if you do decide to visit Stobo I don't think you necessarily be disappointed. A previous reviewer mentioned that the modern spa extension which has been attached onto the side of the castle blends seamlessly but personally I have to disagree. I think nothing is more magical than a Scottish castle and this ugly big thing on the side spoils the illusion for me. The castle is hidden amongst the beautiful Scottish borders countryside and as you drive up to the castle the place just oozes idyllic calm: that is until you see the huge big extension on the side which looks like a public swimming pool. The rooms you can stay in are ok, a little bit beige and bland. I would describe them as comfortable as opposed to luxurious. The spa treatments on offer are ok. There is nothing particularly out of the ordinary but all the usual suspects are there. However I was expecting a bit more from Scotland's most famous spa. I found the interior to be a little bit like a very expensive and posh mental hospital and the fact that everyone was wandering around looking disturbingly calm in dressing gowns only added to this image. The facilities were decent and the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. I definitely felt more chilled out after our weekend at Stobo but I have to be honest and say a little bit disappointed that the real thing didn't live up to my grand expectations.

Just past Peebles and you are in the middle of nowhere! There are a few packages to choose from, but we had the "Ladies day". This consisited of a facial with a small massage (hands& arms or head or feet) and getting your nails done. The facial was so relaxing - and it helped rejuvenate my skin too! The massage was short but sweet! I could of done with a Body massage but hey! I love my nails though - it's a rare thing to get my nails done as I bake! We went down to the Japanese garden which was beautiful but it does need some TLC as some of the bridges are worse for wear and some areas are cornered off but eventually a delight. It has steeping stones and some lovely plant specimens too! Do wear trainers though! I would say it's quite expensive and i wasn't overly impressed with the lunch. the Courgette and butterbean soup was far too peppery, the tomato and basil linguini dish was just lacking essential flavours for a pasta dish - I'm married to and Itailian so i can russle up a good tomato sauce for a pasta! The pudding was a-ok. They have afternoon tea for 14.95 and one with champagne 19.95? (although give me procescco any day) that i would like to give a try plus they have other treatment packages that I would like to book that offer a full massage and other treatments So it's ok but i've been to another spa and I would choose that over Stobo. It's nice but I'm not quite sure what all this fuss is all about!!

This is located just outside Pebbles it is a health spa. It is open for day visits and overnight stays. I got a gift voucher and used it last year and what a place. There is a nice drive up and it is a castle with turrets. The ground is nice to walk in. There is a Japenese Garden that has a lovely waterfall it is so relaxing here but it is a short walk. The car park is directly outside the entrance where there are boys waiting to take your luggage from the car into the hotel. They also take it to your car after your stay. The reception is up a small flight of stairs and then you enter the hallway and find yourself met with a lovely staircase that splits half way up to go either right or left. There are 3 dining rooms, a library type room with a log fire and newspapers etc. I found it strange as we arrived for an overnight we had to go for a bit of a wonder as we were too early and the room was not ready so I felt overdressed the amount of people walking around in robes. It was strange and felt slightly like a hospital. There is a wee shop where you can purchase soft toys, robes and various shampoos and creams that are used during treatments. The treatments are best to be booked in advance so your sure of getting what you want. The rooms are a good size and the bathroom was lovely and spacious. You get a robe to use and slippers. The swimming pool is a good size with big clear windows that look out onto the lawn, there is a sauna, big jaquizzi and showers which have various options including tropical rain. There are a variety of other rooms. This is truly a relaxing place to stay I would recommend staying over though as you will get so much more from your experience. The food is good we sampled two dining rooms both of which were a good size as you get tea, breakfast and lunch. The price of your visit or stay will vary depending on the treatments although the pool is included in the price. The rooms vary to rooms with restricted views because of the turrets to the more luxurious rooms. A truly relaxing experience just enjoy!
