In love with their hearty seafood chowder (salmon & cod)! Very creamy, well-seasoned, and full of fish meat and potatoes. Chowder came with a piece of bread which was a bit on the tougher side, but was still fragrant and buttery. Also, kudos for the store for serving everything in compostable components (container, spoons, as well as the lid!) They also had a mango lemonade drink which was pretty unique. I could taste the distinct mango flavour without it being too overpowering. The staff were polite and helpful. Would want to drop by and grab a chowder every time we stop by Granville Island!

I think I ordered the soup of the day. I just remember it was a bright color. It was pretty tasty, not overly salty, and had a good amount of veggies. It also came with some tasty bread.

Chicken noodle soup with a divine piece of bread all from The Stock Market—what a perfect name for a soup spot! An absolute gem in Granville Island’s public market, and just the thing to warm you up on a chilly day. Can sit down and enjoy your soul warming soup while taking in the view. Perfect!

For a place that specializes in "stock", soup. It was underwhelming... The soups lacked seasoning! Salt would have made it a little better. I ordered the salmon chowder. It was not only under seasoned. I had a couple bites of clumped roux 👎🏻. The base just tasted like cream. I should have went across to "a la mode". I tried wife's chicken noodle soup. Guess what?! No seasoning! I didn't know they served hospital, bland diet, < 2g sodium food. The only thing good about their food is that the prices are ok. I'd rather pay more and have it taste better. Service is great and friendly otherwise. I REALLY wanted to like their soups.

I have loved the soups here in the past and stopped by to pick up an easy meal Christmas Eve. I got salmon chowder for myself and beef barley for my husband. Both soups were barely edible, in fact most of it got thrown away. The chowder had tiny flecks of salmon but no flavor. The beef barley also had very little meat or barley. Very expensive and tasteless. Won't go back.

I’ve been eating soup from the Stock Market for many years, and to be honest it’s been an experience marked by inconsistency in service, quality, and sustainability. I couldn’t write a review because one day I was disappointed, and the next I couldn’t have been a happier customer. I feel that now I can finally write a review, because over the last year I’ve had nothing but consistently friendly service, excellent soup, and lately they’ve introduced reusable bowls and spoons, eliminating the single-use containers and plastic spoons that so often meant I’d look for another lunch option. The effort and expense involved in choosing a sustainable business model can’t be overstated – there’s a lot more labour involved in washing and storing reusable bowls and spoons, and most shops couldn't be bothered. But in choosing to be more sustainable, they’ve become a lunch spot I’ll be choosing much more often. I’ve noticed a couple unfair comments from other reviewers about the soup being bland – that’s a little petty and unfair. Some may prefer soup that’s exploding with spice of flavour, but consider that not everyone does. Common sense dictates that they provide a modestly spiced soup that more people can enjoy. I certainly enjoy it, and if I want more flavour I’ll go make my own. In fact, both my girlfriend and I find that most soup spots way over-salt their soup, and the fact that Stock Market doesn’t is something we’re both thankful for. The quality, serving size, fresh ingredients, and delicious focaccia bread for dipping make for a perfect midday meal to fuel your Granville Island wandering. We also bring home their bagged soup as well, and it's just as good as fresh while also being a great item to stock the freezer with for those times you really want an easy and healthy meal. We’ll continue making the Stock Market a regular stop on our weekly GI visits.

Every time I go to Granville Island with my family, we always stop by here for the soup! It’s super delicious, warm, and comforting, a must for us every visit.

It really does not get any better than this. Fresh salmon chowder and a chunky slice of focaccia right by the dock? As a visitor, this was the most I could as for from the city and the market in general. I wish I could have taken some of this soup home with me! There was a giant variety and all fresh. What an absolute pleasure. I'm still thinking about all the salmon and leeks in the chowder!!

Long lines generally indicate good things when it comes to food, and the lobster bisque on the menu was enough of an enticement for my wife to brave the queue and order a cup. She enjoyed it, but felt some component or flavor was missing; it was also a little thinner than she would have preferred. Being a certified soup savorer myself, I had to agree, based on the couple of spoonfuls I sampled. Good, not great, but I'd be willing to give them another fair shake, the next time we're on Granville Island.

They must not depend on repeat business bc the lavender lemonade was more like essence of lemon with barely any lavender. The smoked salmon chowder was also watery. Not rich at all. Would definitely not go back.

If you don't want something very filling, order a warm soup from Stock Market. Each soup comes with a piece of bread. The chicken butter soup was good for my six-year-old and my wife loves the salmon soup with smoked salmon.

Seafood chowder was very good, it could have been a little thicker. Service was prompt and polite.

"Salmon chowder" had zero salmon in it. Pretty much tasted like canned veg soup thickened with corn starch. Shitty.

Good, but underwhelming given the line and hype. The bread is just a semi-stale afterthought. More significantly, one person who resembled a manager/owner type is very short on patience. Apparently, he's tired of explaining that the fish in the "Wild" Chowder is salmon. Maybe make it clear with signage rather taking it out on customers who keep you in business. The gal who was working Saturday, October 22 was very kind. The price is very fair given the portion and touristy venue.

Stopped by here earlier today around 2PM. We were out at Granville Island looking for some gift, and decided to stop here for some food. Menu was simple. Salmon Chowder was good (small $6.50). For a quick meal, you can't go wrong with salmon chowder. Light,simple soup on a cold or rainy day. It tasted good with Focaccia bread. I wish the soup was bit creamier it was rather watery. You can buy yourself some Truffle Butter, some packaged soup or even salad dressing as well. Not a good place to buy or exchange stocks (just keeding) LOL. They also have a vegetarian soup as well.

I enjoyed the food and my partner extremely enjoyed the food. The price is good and friendly fast service.

Mmmm this place makes some tasty food. If you like horseradish, please get the spicy horseradish mustard it is soo tasty. Their herb and caper butters are also very good. If this place were near me, I'd be going here every week!

Located inside Granville Market, the Stock Market is a soup specialist known for their fish chowder. They actually sell a large variety of soup stock including bone broth and demiglaze. I got a cup of their fish chowder for $6 and it was served piping hot, filled with chunks of salmon and plentiful vegetables. It's not too creamy, relying instead on the quality ingredients to give the broth both flavor and texture. Recommended. Stock Market accepts credit cards, including Amex.

I had the Real Chicken noodle soup for $10 and their was enough for 2 bowls.Good balance and the seasoning was about right.Noodles could have been cut smaller for better chewing with my false teeth.I love soups and hope to try more varieties next time around.

We tried the tom kha gai soup. It tasted nothing like it. Big chunks of boneless chicken in a slimy tasteless broth! Very disappointed

Salmon chowder was delicious and filling. I purchased a small, which I thought would be too little. It was quite enough and the bread was a good portion as well. The flavor of the salmon chowder was rich and the the texture was just right. It was all perfect for that cold and rainy day we were at the public market.

I ordered their smoked salmon soup and it tasted good. It was creamy and had lots of smoked salmon in it. They had two sizes, small or large. I'm so glad I ordered the large.

Smoked salmon chowder was a great meal on a rainy day. It's lightly creamy and comes with a foccacia bread. They also have take-home broths and soups. A great spot for foodies!

Well priced decent soup in what is usually a less hectic corner of the popular Granville market. I personally enjoyed their chicken pot pie soup which was filling and they offer a piece of bread to go with it . Soups are $6-8.50 and they also sell stock soup broths to take home

Hearty soups and stews, perfect for cold, rainy days. Three featured soups per day are served for dining in, with more available in bulk or frozen for taking home. I love how you can purchase their gravies to make holiday dinners easier or a regular weeknight more special. The smoked salmon soup was thick and meaty, perfect for eating in the chill off the water. Cups (~$5) and bowls (~$8) are generously sized and fairly priced, served with a thick square of cold, plain focaccia. Wish the bread was warmed and served with butter to be better enjoyed, but it adequately serves the intended purpose of complementing the soup. Location is convenient to the small indoor dining area. Staff are polite and will give samples on request. They do one meat, one fish, and one vegetable soup per day. I'd use this spot more for taking home dinner than grabbing a meal on-site, personally.

Soup was a strange choice for a summer lunch but I'm glad we tried this place! They conveniently label dairy free or vegetarian friendly on their menu, and they have 2 sizes (small or large). They had 3 soups of the day, and we tried all of them. The wild salmon soup was hearty and flavourful with plenty of vegetables inside (celery, carrots, onion, etc). The vegetarian pea soup was great as well. Chicken soup was a standard classic. This place is really healthy! I also like how they offer fresh baked focaccia bread, included in their price.

I love good soup and this place definitely has some. The choices of the day were smoked salmon, split pea and hearty chicken noodle and they all looked good. We got the smoked salmon (apparently a must try) and split pea. It comes with a beautiful little slice of soft focaccia bread, which is a nice touch. The split pea was DELICIOUS. Usually with these pea soups they get really salty and mushy but this one was neither. The smoked salmon has a really smoky taste to it, with nice chunks of salmon. They must add a little liquid smoke to it to get the flavor, so be warned of you're not a fan of smoke. Remember to bring cash. Card minimum of $10 and it broke the day we went. Also nice selection of bagged soups that you can take home with you: ) Overall, really great soups, perfect for a rainy vancouver day!

Inside Granville Market near the AquaBus dock. I had the Smoked Salmon Chowder. The Chowder was a Potato Chowder with Dill, Celery, Carrots and hot smoked Salmon. The soup accompanied by a small Focaccia bread slice was filling and satisfying. Refreshing soup that's not too rich on a great day in Vancouver BC. 4 stars because the flavors could have been stronger and better definited. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

If you love your wholesome hearty soups, I suggest my go-to place for lunch on Granville island. I've worked on the island for two years and I can say after my fair share of lunch breaks, this is the one place you need to try. The reason I come here every day I work is because of their ever changing line of daily soups. I've never eaten two of the same soups in a row, and most of the time I am ordering a new soup I haven't tried before. A small soup (12 oz) with optional free herb bread fills me up as a petite girl. Both of which are made in house. I highly recommend this place because of that and their great service to customers.

Hidden hem at in the public market on the island! We got salmon and beef soup, both delicious. Perfect for the rainy season in Vancouver!

Prepare yourself for a let down not only is this place oddly run the goods are under seasoned and poorly made. First I guess I should mention the Staff member who tried to convince me that the expiry date on the label was actually the price-not an auspicious start for someone who's avoided the place for years & years (and now remembers why). Anyway I decided to leave the soup and go for a jar of the pasta sauce of which they have such a variety-Romesco and for a decent price. Flavourwise though it was a miss-rancid tasting oil and no seasoning- whoever made this has No Clue None. So I guess that's it for this lifetime no more chances for this mediocrity.

Very good soups. They had yellow split pea, chicken noodle and a smoked wild salmon soup. Yum. I chose the chicken noodle it came with bread which was good. The soup was good and the stock also. Large chunks of chicken too. On Granville Island at the public market.

This little place is located inside the Public Market on Granville Island! They only serve soup. However I did not like that they only serve three soups a day. When we went they had: Minestrone, white bean and chorizo chili, and New York Clam Chowder. I really wanted to try the beef one. We ordered one white bean chili and one clam chowder. The white bean chili was too heavy. I imagined that the chorizo would be in chunks but no it was grounded up in the soup and There was a lot of it. It was way to stocky to be a soup ( and I get that it was suppose to be a chili but it was just too thick). The clam chowder was red not white which I was surprised by. My fiancé said it was okay in taste but that it did have a lot of clams. One thing I did fall in love with was the bread they give you to have with your soup. It was so fluffy and flavorful. The seasoning on the crust was delicious.

Since it was so cold my husband and I thought Stock Market would be a great choice for lunch. We ordered the Irish stew with bread for $6.75. It was really watery and unfortunately very disappointing. We only ended up eating half of it because it was so bad. Hopefully you'll have a better experience than we did. (Insert sad panda face here)

This Granville Island Public Market stall sells a lot of soups and stocks to prepare at home, but also features a few ready-to-eat soups. I selected the WINTER VEGETABLE QUINOA soup to supplement the savory meaty pies we got at Laurelle's Fine Foods. Like others have remarked, these soups are packed which made me so happy. Also, it was nice and hot. It came with a side of focaccia bread which I didn't eat because we had so much food already.

Honestly I was expecting more from this place. We got a broccoli cheddar soup and chicken noodles. Broccoli soup was a bit too salty; the chicken noodle was not salty enough. Nothing special.

What a treat when the weather is "Vancouver Average", as in wet n windy. Great soups and stocks and a fantastic way to warm up after walking around in the wind and rain.

The husband and I went to get some delicious soup from here, and it was tasty! My hubby had the smoked salmon chowder which was extremely delicious (though it was under seasoned- but the Stock Market provides salt and pepper which was fantastic). I had a vegetarian chili that I found good, but too spicy! Yowza Would recommend though if you are in need of some hot soup :)

i'm in the Public Market looking for something good to eat and I stumble upon Stock Market. Soup on a cold day! snapper + salmon chowder = I was thinking more of a white milk based chowder but this is like a veggie soup chowder. Nonetheless, it was pretty hearty and filling. Big chunks of fish. Love the garlic bread too. Soup makes me happy =)

One wouldn't usually crave a bowl of soup during the summer months, however I will gladly go out of my way for a piping hot spoonful of this stuff. And that's exactly what I did! The soups available today were Salmon Chowder, Broccoli Cheese and Barley Corn. I haven't had the honor of tasting all the soups, but I am head over heels for the Salmon Chowder. Every spoonful had enormous chunks of Atlantic Salmon, perfectly cooked celery, carrots, fistful of dill and not too many cubes of potato as filler. I like to eat at a different restaurant every time I visit Granville Island, but it's going to be hard to stray from Stock Market...

Let's face it, Granville Island is a bit of a tourist trap; similar to Pier 39 in San Francisco (with similar quality, overpriced food) and similar to Pike's Place in Seattle (less options for food, and even more of a tourist trap). But coming to Vancouver and not visiting Granville Island would be like visiting Paris and not seeing the Eiffel Tower. Come by for the sights, the views of the boats & water, and for the experience, but don't leave having your mind blown by the food. Most of the food here looks like a mall food court: Chinese food, pizza, sandwiches, etc. where a lot of things are already premade and just sitting in metal containers under heat lamps. After having eaten way too much the day prior, we wanted something on the lighter side for lunch and stumbled across this soup place. The weather was a bit grey and chilly which made this soup place look even more appealing. They had 3 flavors of soup when I went: salmon chowder, moroccan lamb & couscous, and split pea soup. A small soup will set you back $5 CAD and the large soup is $8 CAD, which is a little on the expensive side for soup. You do get a piece of focaccia bread with each soup, but it's cold bread, and a bit lackluster in texture / taste. It's okay, but nothing I would necessarily say is a "must-eat" bread. Neither of the soups were overly salty, and they had good flavor. My boyfriend liked the moroccan lamb soup better, and I liked the salmon chowder better (he thought it was too fishy for his taste which seems obvious since it's made with fish). I was glad the salmon chowder wasn't made with heavy cream, so it was still fairly light in texture and healthier than a bisque. I thought they were a bit on the expensive side for a cup / bowl of soup and while it was good, I wouldn't really make a special trip here to get it again. If you're starving and really feel like you want to eat on Granville Island, then this is a decent choice, but I think you're better off leaving this kind-of-tourist-trap and eat elsewhere.

Their smoked salmon soup is very hearty and warming with the softened vegetables and flakey bits of salmon. Wish the portion size was bigger for the price, but they also give you a bit of bread to eat with the soup.

As stated in my Quick Tip- "Red Lentil Soup=Amazing!" Our second order was the Red Snapper Chowder, and that was okay- not Amazing, but okay. I love the Public Market... It's so great! The ambiance, the people, the variety, the life of it all is beautiful. The Stock Market has awesome soup- it really does... However, I had to rate it between a 3-4 star mark because of lack of seating. I realize that it is a Public Market issue- but I would love to enjoy my Soup in a nice open space. Instead, myself and my party of 4- sat at the most narrow bar I have ever been seated at in my entire life.... Not as enjoyable as I would have liked. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Seating: 2 Overall average: 3.5

Gluten free dairy free soup. Very good soups. They have a vegetarian soup and non-veggie soups. The soup is served with bread which unfortunately isn't gluten free. Menu: I had the German Potato soup. It wasn't overly salty and had lots of carrots, small pieces of potato, leeks and other veg. The flavor was mild. Venue: Located in the Granville Island market. It's sometimes difficult to get a seat on the weekend. Service: Fast and friendly. I'd come back.

The broccoli and cheese soup here is so good! It's totally unlike the American kind which is really a bowl of fake melted cheese. This one is mostly broccoli and rice with a hint of cheese. It wasn't salted enough when we got it but there was some Himalayan habanero salt at the counter and it did wonders for the soup. Also, it comes with a piece of focaccia that's perfect for dipping.

I've tried duplicating the curried red snapper chowder multiple times. Mine's pretty good but theirs was fabulous!

"Do you work here?" I'm a sucker for soup, so when I was in Granville Island and passed the Stock Market, I may or may not have suppressed a girlish squeal. There was a selection of soup from chowders to bisques. I picked the chicken soup based off the recommendation of the cashier, and it really hit the spot along with the side of focaccia bread. I fought the urge to revisit and get more soup since there was much more to try in Granville, but I would definitely consider going back. *Regarding the previous quote: I was asked the question when I ordered. I believe there are employee discounts for those that work at Granville (I said that I wasn't working there, but man was I tempted to say otherwise). Not sure what the discount is, but it's just something to note. You could abuse it, but then you would have to live with that guilt, you monster.

I can almost guarantee you will never find soup so good for so little money-Stock Market has the best soups of all Vancouver BC. (Yes, that is quite the statement) I like to come here during my sailing lessons lunch break (after getting recommended by a sailing instructor), and it NEVER disappoints me. A small soup is only $6.00, packed with tons of fresh, HIGH QUALITY vegetables + seafood (depending on what you order) AND it comes with DELICIOUS focaccia bread that complements the soup perfectly. I'd say that my favorite so far is the red snapper chowder and I can tell you that I would come here at least once a week for lunch. In fact, I am eager to try all the soups they have. (They change up the menus every day) Their soups are always freshly made and ready so there is no waiting time. If you get a seat, you can enjoy the beautiful view of the water, seagulls and the rich residential areas. Then you can browse around the market, how great is that. An awesome place to eat filling meals for less dough. Just remember to bring cash, as they don't accept credit cards ^^

Been coming here for 20 years as they have the best Soup in all of Vancouver. Shh - Yelpers only! .Here is my deal $$ tip: Look up above the refrigerator case when you get there and they will have a small magnetic board that lists the soups they froze. For $5 - 6 bucks we get a big bag of soup that feeds three! Where else in Vancouver can you get homemade food that is so YUM for so little... Also when our son was little got the homemade soups and added them to organic pablum for our son when he was a baby - fresh baby food and all natural - tasted awesome (yup Dad always did a "quality check!). Anyways they win The Georgia Straight Best Soup Award every year for good reason! Favs: Chicken Noodle or Red Snapper :-)

Gotta love the "pun-niness" of the owners that named this place. Very punny. I agree with all of the previous reviews - the stock market is a wonderful spot to grab lunch on a cold and rainy day! I love the fact that every time I visit they have a new selection. It is in a part of the market that is very crowded, and sometimes hard to find a seat, so my little tip for you - directly to the left of the counter they have a few stools with a small counter that you can eat your soup at. They are easy to miss, and almost always open! If they have their wild salmon chowder available, grab it! That is my favourite!

This place is so great! It's literally, a "Stock Market" as in, soup! They make everything from scratch here, and you can get some to go for later, or you can order a bowl and eat it at the market with the Vancouver skyline as your view. The soup of the day changes daily, but it's always guaranteed to be great!

Their vegetarian split pea soup is an absolute dream . I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their vegetarian options. Lots of good non soup choices as well!

Rude! I dropped my spoon and asked for a new one, the staff said "SAY PLEASE". Ha, if he works in a diner I think he won't be tipped by saying that.

Stock Market is a good place to start your shopping day at Granville Island because it'll inspire the rest of the meal that you are shopping for. They have soups, stocks, and sauces, including frozen meat sauces and fish sauces. I plan to stock up for the winter. Har har.
