On the Grid : The Stockyards

"The place every burger lover should visit when in Toronto. The small space gives you an intimate view of your food being cooked but it also means waiting in line sometimes due to the restaurant's popularity. The decor is kind of rustic and unpretentious and the best things on the menu are: everything. This is not an exaggeration—everything they serve is the best. It’s just a matter of what you’re in the mood for, and if you don’t know then always order the burger. It’s a good place to start. Pro-tip: call ahead, order take out, pick-up the food, walk down to Wytchwood barns and eat in the park." - Equal Parts Studio

Google
They may call it a open-air Mall, but it’s not, it actually is a bazar. Wide and open spaces to make it a healthy shopping experience. With all the good brands makes it more interesting.

Google
Very disappointed. This was my first time going to Stock Yards Village and it left a terrible impression. I checked their official website before going on Good Friday and it clearly said the mall would be open with the date written right there. We got a ride there but had to take an Uber back after finding the entire place completely closed. That is not just frustrating, it is a waste of time and money. If you are going to post holiday hours online, they need to be accurate. What is worse is that their website now says they will be open on Easter Sunday with the date again, but there are signs on the shops saying they will be closed. Totally unacceptable. They should take responsibility for misleading information and consider reimbursing people who relied on it.

Google
Nice shopping mall with all the necessities. Restaurants, plenty of parking spaces, and right by the street car station. Has a giant food court and a grocery store as well, and outside there are restaurants like Five Guys available.

Google
Great area for outdoor activities right next to the Toronto Sign. Plenty of Green Parking nearby. We were here for an outdoor art exhibit and it was great 👍.

Google
It’s nice place, good for summer walks and shops, few stores good to visit like winners, nations and happy kingdom for the kids to play indoors. Plenty of free parking.

Kelly was a great server, shoeless 's was a cool place, happy hour was good, and beers were cold, Again Kelly was an interactive and pleasant server, with plenty of parking in the mall. The apps we ordered were pretty good, the deep-fried pickles and loaded fries were also very good. We will visit again soon.

This place has changed a lot over the years! It has a great mix of just about anything. If you’re in the area and have time to kill, it’s definitely worth a visit. I’ve explored it end to end for art supplies, groceries, and even just to hang out at the arcade. Lots to see and do!

Google
It's really a nice shopping mall where we can find many things from shopping garments to doctor place, groceries and many more.

Yelp
It's an ok plaza. There's different stores. I enjoyed visiting the grocery store but other than that I didn't care for much but glad we found this plaza for the snacks.

Yelp
Stock Yards Village is an outdoor mall with a maze-like layout spanning two levels with the parking structure smack dab in the middle of the shopping complex. It's weird and I can't say that I like it. It is very hard to find specific stores if you are not already familiar with the layout. I felt like I needed to do some reconnaissance prior to going to the mall. The mall has a Nations Experience (aka Nations Fresh Foods) there which is fairly large with an arcade and huge kids play area complete with ball pit and huge slides. It's a big international grocery store with a pretty awesome food court. The mall also has a Winners, Homesense, Bouclair, Pier 1, Michaels, Linen Chest, Dollarama, Ardene, Tip Top, Banana Republic Factory Store, Old Navy, The Shoe Company, and a few other stores. They have quite a few dining options too like for fast food they have Five Guys, Thai Express, Chipotle, Freshii, and a few more, and for sit-down restaurants they have Sunset Grill and a Shoeless Joe's, and maybe a couple more places. They do have a Chatime if you're craving a bubble tea. I could see this layout being a huge pain in the winter or when it's raining.

Yelp
You know the store is BAD when the front is littered with abandoned shopping items. You see that 20+ person line, barely moving. Walk out and leave it. Aisles are a DUMP, either understaffed or lazy staff.

Yelp
I frequent the Second Cup here when I need a coffee while waiting to pick up my daughter near by from her babysitter and to get some work done. I thought that after the struggles of similar outdoor malls like Shops of Don Mills that corporations would have learned that outdoor walking malls in Canada are a hard sell. You can basically visit this place (warmly) for only a few months a year but why would you come here in the dead of winter and brave the cold hopping store to store? I sure wouldn't - brrrrrrr! BUT, there are a lot of big Anchor stores here that are a definite draw, as well as a surprising number of food options just off the round about. AND, a huge covered multi floor parking garage, soooo those are all positives. But Stock Yards Village has been around for several years and still has A LOT of empty retail space, so maybe businesses and brands have the same concerns about outdoor malls in Canada as I do - brrrrrrr Ah well, summertime is on so this is the time to visit. Happy retail therapy y'all

Yelp
Tip: Be sure to check the "mall" directory before heading out! It's also good to have an idea of the layout so you know where to park as it can be quite a hike if you park too far. Parking: Covered parkade spanning multiple levels and directions. Again, you'll feel a bit lost if you're not familiar with the shops here and just park randomly. This is an outdoor "mall" that does resemble a mini-village. Seems as though it would be more pleasant to visit during the warmer months as there are sidewalks wide enough to accommodate a stroller, someone with a dog, and smaller groups of people. However, during the Winter months, the layout isn't very practical. There were only a coupla stores that I would hit here and were both kinda misses to me. Stock Yards did seem more convenient if you lived nearby and were familiar with the location of the stores. Otherwise it is a bit of a hassle to get in/out of, park, and most likely take an escalator/elevator to a particular store you wanted to check out.

Yelp
The Grand Opening of its mega store Target was today. But I'm more excited about the Bulk Barn, Winners and Homesense that should be appearing here as well. Also on the list is Old Navy, Ardene, the children's place, Pier 1 Imports (opened), Michael's and Bouclair (opened by now too). There's also a Vitapath store that sells supplements. Finally the west end doesn't have to travel for away to the 427 and Queensway to get to these stores. It's pretty great except for the fact Keele and South of St Clair will be come even more congested. I suggest heading through the short cut of Home Depot and Cantire. There's also a slew of fast food restaurants like Thai Express, Teriyaki, Pita something, Menchies etc. What I don't get is why it's on the north end of the place far away from the rest of the shopping. Each has its own store area and seating area like it's a restaurant. The entire complex is a maze and seems like more suited if you what to go to a few specific stores rather than a nice all day shopping experience like say shops at don Mills. It's not friendly to wandering, and the layout is a bit strange with parking smack dab in the middle and stores all around it. You won't see what they area from the parking lot but that's not the point. I'm looking forward to frequenting the place but would imagine in a few weeks parking won't be so easy to come by. There is also a Second Cup (lots of seating) in the food area and a Starbucks inside the target (not really for long stays) that doesn't take your Rewards Card.

Yelp
I love this place, great to stop in a do some quick shopping when walking my dog. Many of the places allow you to bring your dog in provided they behave appropriately. Love Winners, Homesense, and Michael's especially for always being so dog-friendly. They will continue to get tons of business from me. One thing I wish the area had was a movie theater in it so that it would bring more people and give the area a draw for entertainment.

Yelp
Even without the beautiful bullseye*, The Stockyards are sometimes a necessary evil. Homesense, Winners, The Linen Chest and other box stores just help make your house go 'round, and it's good to have a lot of options all in the same place. It's also super handy that Home Depot and Blinds To Go are right across the street. We're talking about a seriously money corner for home decor. Is it hideously American? Oh hell yes. How many parking garages can one complex have? You ugly, Stockyards... but sometimes you just have to grab your plastic, a big ass Starbucks and lean in. *Rest In Peace, Target Canada.

Yelp
The Stockyards is still a work in progress. Very curiously, there are a few stores open amidst ongoing construction and debris. Right now, the place is nothing to look at. The Stockyards will bring a number of familiar chains and new stores to the Junction. The Target is open and is a sparkling clean and well-organized store. There is also a DollarStore, Old Navy, Bouclair Home, and Pier 1 that are already open, among others. Still on deck are a Michael's Craft store, a Petsmart, kids clothing store, a Banana Republic outlet store and others. There are or will be a few familiar fast food places as well such as KFC, Hero Burger, Second Cup, etc. Parking is plentiful in the inside of the centre. It is nice that they designed the place so that the parking is not visible from the street. Again, the place is still a work in progress. Hopefully, they will have nice planters to add some life and keep the place clean after everything is finished.

Yelp
I happen to drive by, and saw a bunch of stores that I just happened to be looking for (mostly home decor). If you're in the market for home decor, then this is a great place to visit. Plenty of parking, and alot of options with more to come. However, for anything else like clothing or something, you're probably best going elsewhere, and because it's an outdoor mall, I can only imagine that it's going to be a bitch to go from one end to another during the winter. While walking down some stairs from the second level to the ground I passed by some elderly women who were complaining about the lack of elevators or escalators. There are escalators to get to and from each level which but no signs that clearly point to where they are, which is something that they should probably put.up.

Yelp
I like the fact that I can park in the covered parking garage right behind the Second Cup and pop in for a coffee. The shopping centre is designed in a pretty unique manner with escalator's taking you up and down heated enclosed units only to let you out into the cold to walk the rest of the way uncovered to your favorite store. My wife and I discussed this layout, although she was not a fan I liked it. You can shop, have plenty of parking and still be out doors. One thing I don't like about the design is that since the whole thing is built around the parking structure it's difficult to see where specific stores are at which can be an issue if you are new to the shopping centre. There are some info tablets that can help with that but good luck finding them.

Yelp
First visit to this new shopping centre on the site of an old packing house. It is designed a bit like "Shops on Don Mills" with blocks of outdoor facing buildings around interwoven streets. However it is not as fancily decorated and the retail mix is mid-scale for the most part, with the possible exception of the fairly upscale Linen Chest. The eating places are not fully rented yet and I believe there are one or two retail spaces still empty. Being next to a Home Depot, a Canadian Tire and some other existing stores makes it a convenience for people in the area. In general, a pretty good mix of stuff, with Target as the main anchor. It would get more traffic if some additional apparel stores were added and three shoe stores might be a bit many. It could also benefit from a "sit-down" restaurant chain entry like a Joey's or Jack Astor's or Mandarin.

Yelp
Still a work in progress, this location is ideal for people living in the area. With the departure of Target, it'll leave a big gap, but hopefully a grocery store or several smaller stores will divide up the space. The HomeSense here is one of the best out there. On the day I last visited, it was a virtual ghost town...it's great to look through their wares not having to have people stalk you to see if you're going to take an item (had this happen to me at the HomeSense at Collosus) Ample parking, great clean stores, what a great shopping experience (although on a rainy day it would be a totally different experience).

Yelp
Its great in the summer being outdoors, however its also a downfall when its winter. However I really do enjoy this place and everybody is nothing but friendly. The "food court" is also great with high end restaurants that you wouldn't see in any plain old mall. Its a pretty good all round "mall" so to speak.
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
This place is great. Gigantic super stores everywhere, boasting a new Target, with a winners, and tons of little stores from second cup to bell mobility. The parking is abundant and the layout isn't too easy to get around in but they put escalators everywhere to accommodate. They all seem to stay open mega late as well, huge bonus!

Yelp
I came here to apply for some jobs, and I found the layout to be weird. Shopping here on a rainy or snowy day isn't really possible. As you'd be walking outside for a good majority of the time. The stores are good and there is affordable clothing and misc available for the conscious shopper with lots of time on their hands. Unfortunately I have no plans on ever coming here again.

Jenna F.

Yelp
I love perusing the major stores such as Home Sense, Winners, Old Navy, and Pier 1. The layout is modern and efficient once you get to know the different stairways, elevators, and bridges. Good for exercise and lots of parking. Warning: avoid Thai Express. I concur with a previous review that the food is terrible. I ordered pho and the broth was absolutely tasteless, they might as well have used tap water for the broth. I couldn't not say anything, and even when I did they did not offer to make me a new one, they offered me egg rolls instead, which I politely declined. If I wanted egg rolls, I would have ordered them.

Yelp
I went into this target store yesterday with my nine week old puppy who I had put into one of the their shopping carts while I was in their parking lot. He just lies down quietly and usually sleeps while I shop. We rode up the elevator and as I entered the store I was told by one of the associate that I had to leave the store right away. I was quite surprised as I had just come from winners and home sense where we were welcomed and treated very well. As long as the dog is secured and can fit in the shopping cart it wasn't a problem. I told the associate at the target store they had just lost a customer and I would not be returning she completely ignored me I asked where's the sign prohibiting pets entry and also told her I was welcomed at the above stores. .... No response from her . I promptly left the store puppy in tow. Not only was this an embarrassing experice I felt totally disrespected . I used to shop at target but I no longer will with or without my puppy!

Donna S.

Yelp
I went just after the opening, I went yesterday in the pouring rain. What I thought last Spring still stands: it's a crazy place, making for crazy trouble shopping. I repeat: there's no "there" there, unlike Dufferin Mall with its food court and places to sit throughout, and particularly unlike Sherway Gardens and the Eaton Centre with art and fountains and a sense of space. The Stockyards makes me feel trapped in a consumer nightmare. Someone built an inside-out shopping mall. Jenna F wrote "[t]he layout is modern and efficient once you get to know the different, stairways, elevators, and bridges." That's damning with faint praise. What she is saying is that the mall trains you to deal with its eccentricities. And there are lots of them. You can't go from one store to another except by going outside and back in again -- lots of fun in lousy weather. The overhangs and the bridges high above the ground level will not protect you from the elements because the inside of the mall is a freakin' wind-tunnel. I do wonder what people will go through in winter-time. The parking area closest to Target is dark, dark, dark. The north lot is worse. Try getting to the upper level! If you're totally on foot, maybe the first elevator or escalator you see will be working and, then again, maybe not. If you're driving, good luck figuring out where to ascend. A guy at the HomeSense check-out was flabbergasted to learn that he'd have find the up-ramp (which he couldn't find beforehand) to load his substantial purchases (no cart or dolly available) and the sales clerk had no idea how to access her own store by vehicle. On the ground level, there are speed bumps every 50 to 80 feet. In the middle, there's a traffic circle -- something not seen in decades since the one on the QEW was removed. With only a few dozen shoppers in sight, car traffic ground to a halt in the rain. No one wants to ignore soaking wet moms with push-chairs. I'm a senior. I felt as if I'd done a half-marathon after visiting only three businesses on a rainy day. Most surprising of all, only a few small-ish stores have opened during the Summer. The north part of the mall still looks post-apocalyptic. I guess it's fair to say it's good to have some stores usually found in the burbs here is west Toronto. But the entire mall design strikes me as an expensive experiment that ought not to be repeated.

Santiago Benites R.

Yelp
The Winners store @ The Stockyards location is, in my opinion, nothing more than an over glorified and overpriced thrift store. Specifically, the men's clothing section is a huge waste of time, and when (if) you can actually find something nice, it's ridiculously overpriced. This location ALMOST makes the Dufferin Mall Winners store look like a gold mine (almost).

Jenn M.

Yelp
Parking here is very spacious and easy to drive around. Under ground parking for Target is spacious and well lit. Enough walking space for larger crowds and lots of sunlight. My only complaint would be store signs. There are no signs posted anywhere to let you know where stores are located, your left to wander. Though not all the spaces are sold I feel there should still be something posted still.

Tenzin D.

Yelp
Very close to my neighborhood and a huge fan of that. The one thing that im not a fan of is the amount of parking spaces and roads in the outside mall. About 30%+ of the whole mall is just for free parking. There are hardly any good stores, some of them are no brands. But its still a work in progress. Would be great if they added a nofrills and a local good life gym there.

Peter M.

Yelp
Wife and I shop there often. Most of the stores are solid at what they do, so it's a question of whether you want to check and price sports stuff, home stuff, clothes, shoes (mainly women's) kids and teen things, crafts, pets. People who can't bear to get a little fresh air between stores or are totally unwilling to find their way around a new place won't like it; but their grandchildren will help them figure it out I hope. Come on folks, we're Canadians.

Reilly L.

Yelp
I went to the Nail salon and had my chin waxed. The woman burnt my face leaving a huge blister and she did a really crappy job of my nails. It looked like she did them in the dark. And why if you pay cash is there NO TAX?

Brandon W.

Yelp
Tremendous burger and fries. I had the chilli pimento cheese burger and the first bite I had was amazing. Phenomenal job on the food and love the atmosphere. It's small but you definitely get that diner/burger joint feel. 2 thumbs up for Stockyards
