Here's What Actually Happens on a Plane Between Flights

"SAS Scandinavian Airlines’ hub at Stockholm Arlanda Airport in Sweden is a great example of how airlines keep planes flying with minimal ground time while operating in a sustainable manner. The article describes the detailed turnaround process of a SAS flight, highlighting the efficiency and sustainable practices adopted by the airline, such as quick engine shutdowns, catering changes, and digital innovations to reduce weight and waste."

This airport is spacious and easy to navigate, with a great variety of shops and restaurants to choose from. I especially liked the selection of Swedish souvenirs lots of high-quality, authentic items that made for perfect last-minute gifts. Plenty of food options too, whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a sit down meal. Only downside is it can get a bit busy at peak times, but overall a solid experience.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport A spacious and modern airport. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants if you want to grab a meal or a quick bite before your flight. In the departure hall, you can also do some last-minute shopping for clothes, souvenirs, perfumes, and more. There are lots of seats near the gates, making it comfortable while waiting. We used the airport coach to travel between the airport and the city. I bought a return ticket directly at the coach stop, the process was easy and convenient. Overall, I had a good experience at the airport.

Good quality shops. The way their queue is for the luggage check is not efficient though and nobody was there assisting to check of one line has to be shortened. Clean bathrooms and nice sitting areas. I can tell that the management running this airport is serious about keeping the cleanliness, prestige and high quality of their airport. There is an aim to keep the standards high. I salute this airport as I regularly come here and all have always been a pleasant experience

Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) is one of the largest airports in Scandinavia. Well-developed infrastructure inside the terminal. Unfortunately, it is terribly expensive, even for Scandinavia. Particularly deserving of condemnation is the price of getting to the center, which oscillates around EUR 30 one way (!!!), and the trip takes only less than 18min. It is even in NY that a ride costs "only" $8 one way. I think I would visit the city more often, but the prices are a deterrent, especially the said ride between the airport and the city center.

Airport check is terrible. All are lazy staff.very few staffs attended and clear the doubt. One must have good energy to walk walk and walk in this airport. All pre packed foods available here In this airport. Never carry the cash and no one ready to accept it except Card payment. Horrible experience for first time visitors. Immigration takes more than an hour for 50 persons. Restrooms are not well cleaned here

Google
Modern, relatively big airport. There are many options to eat and drink, maybe not the best for shopping. The luggage process is slow, it took a lot to drop off the luggage that made ne stress to reach the gate. It is far from Stockholm city center. There are 3 options to reach the city; Arlanda express is the fastest and most expensive way. There is also bus shuttle. I took flixbus which took 40 min. with quite good rate (5-6€).

Google
This is a very clean, simple, and effective airport. I found everything very orderly, and being my first time in Stockholm, I was happy with it, especially the train that connects from the airport to the city! Overall, a great European airport!

Google
Gigantic airport. Arlanda Airport serves as a hub for SAS, Air Baltic and many other airlines. It is clean, well-organized and well-run, efficient, with ample food and shopping options, even at night or during super early morning hours. I especially liked the hydration station where you could drink or fill up your water bottle: the water apparently comes from Lake Malaren located in the vicinity of Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Yelp
What a fabulous well run airport. For a big city it was quite and everything smoothly running from bag drop to security to boarding. Lots of nice bars, cafes, and shops. Easy to get through customs too. As an American passport holder. Lines move quick. Both my flights from here were on time and easily navigated. It's the major airport in Stockholm but it is about 40 mins outside the city. The Arlanda express train takes you right into city center thought or the buses. Easy to get both from the airport. Train is quicker but more expensive. Great experience I had here! Can't say that about many airports!

Yelp
Always a reliable airport! If you are going through Arlanda security it will take a little longer than it used to because it seems the are using a new system. If you come two hours before the flight you will have enough time, 1 hour won't cut it won't their new system. Arlanda staff are always patient, the airport is clean and has different food options to choose from!

Yelp
Our first time flying out of this modern airport. It is clean, quiet, and efficient. Security wasn't busy, and provided plastic bags to put our liquids in because they have to be in their own tray, as do phones and tablets. We found our way to the upstairs lounge which is open to most business class airlines. It is like London where they don't announce your gate until 15 minutes before boarding. The airport is fairly small, so that will not cause us to sprint like at Heathrow, our next stop via BA.

Yelp
I have seldom seen such an archaic and unimproved airport in a major European hub city such as Arlanda. Very disappointing and will make me think twice about visiting Sweden again if I must travel through such an atrocity. Get it together Sverige! Munch better experience in small Hamburg airport and would consider that more of a "regional" airport where expectations would be much lower but far exceeded Arlanda in my mind.

Yelp
This is an excellent airport to travel through. There is no transport between terminals, so you may have to do a lot of walking, but just like Stockholm itself, you will be surrounded by cafés and cute shops to pick up last minute gifts. It also was very clean, though the restrooms could use more frequent servicing.

Yelp
We found this airport to be fairly new and clean. Going through immigration was fairly fast and easy. Easily found our way to the baggage claim. Thankfully the luggage arrived with no issue. Restroom was being cleaned while we were there. It was spotless. We also found the Information Desk to be very helpful in locating our next area.

Yelp
We used Arlanda on a London-Oslo-Stockholm-London trip. Arrival wasn't great: the flight arrived on time but the automated guidance system was down and the plane had to be manually flagged in; then the gate-to-aircraft walkway wouldn't attach, so we had to use steps down to the tarmac and steps back up to arrivals. So from landing to finally leaving the aircraft took 45 minutes. The luggage carousel was a long walk from the gate with several escalators and moving walkways: in total, we walked a mile (1.6 KM), from the aircraft, to finally catching a bus to Märsta to get a train to Stockholm - a derailment having cut the Arlanda Express. The walk from the terminal to the bus stop was not signposted and pretty uninviting. The only bright spot in an otherwise grim arrival experience was the helpful staff at the information desk. We left plenty of time for departure and caught the (partially restored) Arlanda Express there. It was quick and efficient (and two people together also get a discount). It takes 20 minutes for the 30+ mile journey. There are three stations at Arlanda: the Arlanda express has two stations, one for terminals 2-4 and one for terminal 5. The regular SJ and regional Mälertog use a Central station serving all terminals. Note that using the commuter, regional or SJ trains requires a 20SEK airport surcharge. This should be included in a one-way ticket but not a 7+ day season ticket. Sadly on arrival at Arlanda it all went downhill again: when you leave the station for terminal two, there is no indication of which check in desk you must use when you get to the top of the stairs from the station. This meant we walked to check-in desks 1-30 (signposted) only to have to walk back again for check-in desk 55. We checked, and there was no signage for these unless you turned around and looked far right. We were then unable to use the automated package label service, as it was not working for BA, so had to join the queue and wait an hour to check in manually (as did everybody else). The contrast with the swift and easy automated bag drop at Heathrow and Oslo was stark. At security, they are very strict on liquids - more than other airports - and would not allow me to take home the insect repellent that had happily passed through Heathrow and Oslo airport security without problems. Then we discovered passport control was closed - it only opens 75 minutes before the flight leaves. This information was on an electronic sign rotating with adverts, so we missed it first time. Sigh... So back down again to the main departure lounge to wait until it opened. Once through, gates 70-86 have no food or retail outlets, so be warned (but there is a sign saying this). Terminal two certainly does not have any of the nice Scandinavian design that other reviewers have referred to. It was all pretty dull, and the public areas we used had certainly not been cleaned recently - lots of rubbish on seats and on the floor, although the toilets were okay. They also provide free water top-ups. From looking at other reviews, it seems which terminal one uses must make a big difference to the passenger experience. Ours was one of the worst in recent years.

Yelp
Certainly the easiest way to get to Stockholm from the United States, I arrived on a direct Delta flight from New York and returned the same way. I found arriving at the airport easy to negotiate with decent signage. Certainly getting from the gate though passport control and baggage claim (I did not check a bag) and out to the arrivals hall was simple. There are at least a hundred signs for the Arlanda Express and rather than buy a ticket at the platform, I stopped at a kiosk along the way where a pleasant young woman sold me a round trip ticket and she provided directions. Returning to the airport from Stockholms Centralstation was also easy with great signage (look for the "airplane" icon") at the train station that pointed the way to the platform. A bit of walking later, the Delta ticket counter was right at the top of the escalator. A short wait and I had a brief security interview and then I had my boarding pass. A friendly chap, it was some of the strangest questions (and I've done this dozens of times before) I suppose to check that I'm not a terrorist? My Delta status got me a "Fasttrack" security pass and I was through security in just a few moments. (Standard European security - laptop out, segregated baggie of liquids out, shoes on, walk through magnetometer.) I spent the rest of the time either walking through a duty free shop or in the American Express https://www.yelp.com/biz/american-express-lounge-by-pontus-stockholm-arlanda?hrid=rU78ttaUFPClO7xPuU9n2w or the Delta "contract" https://www.yelp.com/biz/norrsken-lounge-stockholm-arlanda?hrid=aNk2WrSPWQC6pN3TxWq47g lounge in Terminal 5. Jetbridges both times. There's certainly plenty of shopping and they're busy constructing more. At least in Terminal 5, it is completely step free but there's still a lot of walking. [Review 18090 overall - 11 in Sweden - 1612 of 2022.]

Yelp
It was a good arrival experience until the baggage claims. The airport seemed old fashion and felt small. However , the path from the plane to immigration checkpoints was efficient and quick. Once you get to the baggage claims, you will feel that you stepped back in time for decades. The area was dirty and dated. It took over 45 minutes to get our bags as they come out in small batch of 2 to 3 every few minutes. One thing good about Sweden is that you will save the time for currency exchange as most payments are digital and cash is not the norm.

Yelp
Flying into Stockholm Arlanda is great! The deplaning process and going through passport control was quick and easy. Even leaving the airport and getting to Stockholm central was quick and easy with the Arlanda Express train. The problem is flying out of Stockholm Terminal Five. The process of waiting at a Delta check in gate was a nightmare. Even though all the check in desks were empty, the Delta staff insisted on screening everyone while we were standing on line to get to the desk. They asked everyone questions on their stay in Stockholm. It seems a bit excessive for just checking in. The actual security line was even longer. Although they had these fancy gates that would scan your boarding pass, almost every three passengers got flagged and had to be manually checked. The killer was that the security check did not have any of the modern comforts of new airports. You basically had to grab a bucket to toss all your stuff in. If there were no buckets you had to wait until the security people brought them back to the front. Everything had to be manually checked leading to a huge security wait. After passing through security, we were looking for food and there only seemed to be one food option in all of terminal five. Since there was nothing else we ended up eating at their Eatery which was so unspectacular I didn't even bother taking a picture. I highly suggest eating prior to security where there are more options. Just keep in mind that security can be a slog.

Yelp
We were running late for our flight and quite honestly would have missed it except for the fact that it was delayed due to snow taking the airport down to one functioning runway. Whew. But as a result, we wound up with several hours to kill after arriving. The airport itself is an airport... nothing bad to say, nothing exceptional that I noticed. I did find myself oddly obsessed with the jetway bridges because they all have advertising on them and it's different than in the US. I don't believe we had to ask anyone for help but the staff generally seemed present and there to assist.

Yelp
It's clear the sprawling terminals were built at different times, but overall it operates as an efficient modern airport. Security & passport control is usually reasonably fast. Shopping (including duty free) & dining options aren't as substantial as at major international hubs, but sufficient and spread out. Several choices outside security too at Sky City. It's a bit far from the city, but many easy connections by bus and train.
google avatar

Thembi S.

Yelp
Decent airport, and fairly modern. Getting through security was pretty easy. There's a new duty free section just past security that was very nice, plus smaller duty free shopping areas throughout the airport. Navigating was simple. My biggest complaint is a lot of the terminals are far and you have to walk it. Some kind of train in there would be a good idea.
google avatar

Kimberly M.

Yelp
This is a nice, clean, easy to navigate airport. There will be plenty of walking depending on your gate so be prepared for that. Initial security is boarding pass only, if you fly internationally you will have a short/quick passport control line right before you enter that area. Plenty of food options, duty free shop around every corner. Staff is friendly but seems to work at their own pace.

Yelp
By looking at the ratings of this airport and reading through the reviews, everyone has definitely had their own experiences and I am no different...here's my take... I am happy we chose Stockholm to fly into when visiting Europe on this past trip. I didn't know what to expect after looking through some of the reviews. We are familiar with several airports in Europe from living there, but not this one. When we have visited Sweden in the past we have visited by other forms of transportation. Personally, I thought the airport was well laid out and there was a lot of signage to get you where you were going and/or needed to go. This is perfect! Not happy with the long lines at customs, but it is what it is and it has to be done. And even with that said...when we got in line we thought it would be over an hour before we'd get through customs. But to our surprise, we were only in line for 35 minutes. We felt like we were constantly moving and it really "went" like a well-oiled machine. Once we got past customs everything is well marked for domestic flights, trains, taxis, etc. And if you don't see what you are looking for, then there is an information desk. What more can you ask for? There are a few shops, coffee shops, and eateries just in case you need something straight away. I enjoyed this airport and would happily use it as a choice to fly in and travel to other areas in Europe even if we don't stay in Sweden or don't stay long. After all, once you get there...other modes of transportation are readily available and they make it super easy. Not to mention the Swedish are super friendly folks and it makes you want to go back!

Yelp
Not impressed. Poorly organized & plenty of construction. Walked around in circles to get to gates. Poor signage that points to all possible directions, sometimes it looks like sign points forward in front of escalators, which is incorrect. I'm excellent with directions but this airports tested me for sure. They changed my gate 2 times, the last change was on the other side of the u-shaped F/5 terminal. They don't have taxis at this airport, so if your gate is changed to the other end, run & fight against the crowds because the halls are narrow. People here also don't cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, so bring the coldeeze vitaminC. Legs are now fatigued from running to new gate.

Mark P.

Yelp
Bad airport. To start, there is no tax-free in Terminal 2. You have to go to Terminal 5, a very long walk. The scanning machine at security broke and there was a long wait. The lounge hot food was awful, unless you beans, corn, pasta and potatoes.

Yelp
Great airport that functions well even in difficult weather conditions. Express trains can be affected by the weather though. Good selection of duty free items and a fair selection of sandwiches to go AFTER the duty free area. Suggested times for check in and security lines seem reasonable under good conditions because (1) Sweden has strict policies to reduce workplace stress (i.e., all staff work very diligently but won't speed up a line if there is a backlog, nor are passengers advised or helped if little time may be left to catch a flight) and (2) equipment is not the most modern compared to Heathrow, for example, and staff shortages can impact the flow. Security line waiting times may be deceptive in the SAS app as it was for me. One line was suggested to have a wait of 5 minutes but was actually 20. Distances to the gate may be substantial. There do not appear be estimates of how long one has to walk. In other words, next time I am going to get there twice as early because I barely made my flight :)
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
I would have to say the layout of this airport is sort of crazy. This is because the check in process is just so weird as far as the layout. You have to go further in to check your bags, and then there's one line to get through security which I think is so backwards. I would highly, highly suggest to get here at least 3 hours before your flight if you're checking in bags just because checking bags will be a super rough experience. Luckily we didn't check any bags and just had a carry on. Food wise inside after getting through security was limited. When we were there the line for a simple sandwich/coffee shop was ridiculous. So, I would suggest to eat before heading to the airport.

Yelp
Can only talk about Terminal 5. If you use the SL to the airport, you'll have to pay the extra airport fee (130pp). You can buy this ahead of time on the app, at your departure station or at the airport. We arrived here just after 5am for our early morning flight. This was definitely the busiest I have ever seen an airport at this time. Long line at check in, security, and at food options. Just logistically, a big mess.

Yelp
Cluttered With Construction And Off-Limits-Areas, But Lots Of Potential When They Are Geared up. THE SETUP Flying in to meet friends, tour the Old Towne Historic District, and catch a Royal Caribbean cruise around the Baltic Sea. And then back to the airport back to the states. SHORT STORY: Decent Aiport. Good anciillary services, but I much preferred Copenhagen Airport when compared on all the metrics, LONGER STORY: The break-out of the services that ran smoothly at the airport had more to do with those independent services themselves. * The good bus-shuttle service between Arlanda and Stockholm's downtown Central Station was an independent actor, and not really under the domain of the airport. * In this realm, what would be nice is if the airport would encourage/provide a light rail between the airport and downtown Stockholm. I'm confused why it doesn't considering the 30 mins between the airport and downtown. CUSTOMER SERVICE & ACCESSIBILITY * Inside the airport terminals, the vast distances to be covered would be greatly helped by an internal light-rail circuit (event up one level or below), and/or some people-movers. * On this point, this airport is not really accessible for the disabled with it's unnecessary restrictions about the disabled using their own equipment. GATES I don't understand why they have to wait to almost the last minutes (less than an hour at times) to announce the gate you need to go to in order to catch your flight. THE LOWDOWN Pays to go as early as possible to get through the lines.
google avatar

Eric R.

Yelp
What was surprising about this airport was how boring it was and lacking of charm and interesting shops. The Copenhagen airport puts this one to shame. Also, the seating areas weren't as comfortable as expected. A pro tip for any travelers coming here and going to Stockholm or areas around the airport, try to get an Uber as the taxi situation here is crap. The taxis charge a maximum amount to go to Stockholm or to a nearby district or town. You're going to pay $60 with them versus 30 to 40 with Uber. It may be better to take the train if you're traveling light.
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
Modern, sleek, clean and sterile. But not much in the way of amenities. I could not find a water fountain anywhere (dying of thirst). Some flights that have a jetway gate nonetheless appear to require boarding a shuttle bus, which caused a travel companion to miss a connecting flight even though they were at the gate 15 minutes prior to departure.
google avatar

Yelp
Seriously, this is one of the cleanest and prettiest airports I've seen to date. My sister and I landed really late and had some trouble finding our way to the airport hotel that I booked for our 16 hour layover. There was plenty of security and lots of open places to eat (surprisingly at 12:30 midnight). All the people we ran into were very, very friendly and helpful and gave us directions to find our airport hotel (it was a bit confusing on how to get from the arrivals terminal to the airport hotel... but we actually ended up using the terminals never had to exit the airport at all). It could be worse... it could have been LAX or JFK... everyone is always in a bad mood there lol. I definitely like this airport!

Yelp
Don't understand the hate. It is pretty, well laid out. Has nice shops and restaurants that see staffed with multilingual friendly people. The Arlanda express train takes you to Stockholm Central, or for 1/3 the price a bus does the same for twice the time. Check in, security and immigration is usually brisk. I'm a fan!

Yelp
This airport has got to be one of my most favorite airports in Europe. Not only does it offer a great layout, it has numerous stores/shops everywhere. It offers a lot of space without it being too cramped and the choices of food are endless here. The lounges located in these airports are amazing as well. The only downside about this airport is that to get to each terminal is pretty long. Especially if you're traveling from one of the lounges to the other side.

Yelp
Arlanda (ANS) is very sleek, unique and oh so clean... very Scandinavian! I loved being greeted by an exhibit of ABBA Museum of the band's costumes. I'm not in Kansas anymore, I mean Texas! Ha! Customs was amazingly easy to get through. I was sad that my friend decided not to come to the airport to meet me... but you know what? ... that was totally cool after the fact. She said "take the bus!" ... Whaaat? She doesn't drive and it would have cost her to get there so i's ok. My recommendation: Take the bus to town! It's quick, easy, cheap. My friend met me at the bus station and we walked right over to the train station to get out of town. She bought me a week's unlimited pass on the train. I suggest you do that too!
google avatar

Stephen W.

Yelp
I was really surprised how small this airport is given the fact that Stockholm is by far Sweden's largest city. Plus, it is not very busy. During the 45 minutes or so I was there our flight was the only one to land. Going thru passport control was easy (unlike UK) and the officer was friendly (unlike Russia). Got my baggage quickly (unlike (DFW) and was on my way. Roads were almost empty on a Monday morning. I wonder if people don't drive or car ownership is not popular. From my rough calculations gas is around $8 a gallon.

Yelp
We flew into ARN from Copenhagen on SAS and because it was a quick flight we exited the back of the plane and took the stairs down into the tarmac and walked into the airport. Because we had carry-ons we took the elevator up one floor and then walked through and out to get our checked bags the terminal was nice a Starbucks location, bar and some eating options and then it was on to the currency exchange and then to meet up with my brother who was able to park pretty close for pick up. When we left Sweden the airport looked like a totally different place and then of course there was customs and screening to go through. The airport was clean and easy to navigate, there weren't any food or beverage options before security but the use of the free luggage carriers were a plus! Once through security it is like being in a mini mall at least on the SAS concourse. There were dining options, bars duty free shopping, plus Michael Kors and Victoria Secret stores. Compared to Phoenix's Sky Harbor this airport is pretty swanky.

Yelp
Beautiful and modern airport with lots of seating, clean restrooms and very customer-centric. We flew in and out of Stockholm on our Scandanivian trip and they really have their act together. We had no issues with anything and finding everything was easy as well. Getting to the airport you even have several options. You can take the subway and pay an upgraded fare or you can take the bus. There's also a speed train that takes only 20 minutes.

Yelp
It was my first time to Stockholm and the airport was the first thing I actually saw in the city. To be honest, I wasn't really impressive be the airport. The Terminal my partner and I arrived was a bit small, it was Terminal 2, I was a big surprised, as the terminal for international airlines, it wasn't that big. The good thing was that the place was quite easy to get around. it didn't took us long to get to the bus station for our bus to the city, which it was suppose to be every 10 minutes per bus, somehow we ended up waited a bit longer than that, probably just a busy day. Stockholm Arlanda Airport has 4 terminals , terminal 5 is for international airline, the main different between terminal 5 and 2 is that size of it, Terminal 5 is more designed for the international zone. Terminal 4 is s for the Scandinavian airlines and Linjeflyg, didn't really visit there yet, but I heard between this two Terminal has a shopping and restaurant area called Sky City. Maybe next time will check it out. Terminal 2-3 are not so close to the 4 and 5, the air bus will make a stop for these terminals, 2-3 are close to each other. As I mentioned earlier, Terminal 2 is for international airlines, we got here from Germany, so I think it is possible the some inner European airlines will make their stop here as well. Terminal 3 is for regional airlines. Overall I think the airport is alright, it isn't the greatest I have visited, it is just fine. Terminal 2 kinda of remind me the Tegel Airport in Berlin in the way, but much cleaner and modern. I think next time if I am in town again, I will probably go to check out the Sky City

Yelp
Lack of female security!!! What's up with that?!!??? I got a pat down by a male TSA officer. The airport is clean, and there are plenty of food options...but I'm NOT okay with a male officer doing a physically pat down because there wasn't a female security TSA officer around!!!!

Yelp
As far as airports go this one isn't too bad. I mean, it definitely wouldn't be my choice airport to be stuck at for any extensive period of time, but it's for sure decent. The bus drop off was straight forward enough and the layout of the airport just makes sense. The security was pretty pleasant and less painful than so many other airports, aka every single American airport in existence. Even the individuals working here seemed friendlier than the average airport..or are they just Swedes and therefore super chill? The only legit problem here is there just isn't much going on and not a lot of conveniences available to make your stay more comfy. There really wasn't many places to grab a bite or any snacks when the hungries hit. The burger place there was definitely not gluten free friendly and was totally packed at 8am. We couldn't locate a water fountain to refill our water bottles and there weren't a lot of charging stations about. Other than that I do agree the bathroom was pretty clean and so was the gate seating area. So just come prepared like your going camping with extra battery packs and snacks and you'll get by a-ok

Yelp
We ended our 12 day Baltic cruise flying out of ARN. Unlike SFO where the ticket counter didn't open until 2pm for our 5:30pm flight; the SAS ticket counter accepted our check luggage at 11am for our 4:30pm flight. ARN has these self check kiosks for many airlines. Select your airline and print out your boarding passes and luggage tags. Then drop your bags off at self baggage ticket counter. We couldn't figure out how to do the luggage tags. Went over to the self bag counter where the agent did it for us. Now where to get a bite to eat - lots of deli sandwich places. We opted for two cold cut deli sandwiches and one Fanfa and one bottle of beer. $40 USD. Talk about pricey. The airport has plenty of seating at the various eateries. WiFi - the airport claimed that due to heavy traffic, WiFi is being offered free. Don't know if that was the case, but never turn down free WiFi. On international flights, there's a passport check. And your passport is stamped. Then later at the gate, they do another passport check. The boarding area is closed off til the ticket agents come on duty so don't bother to get there too early. The oddest thing - smokers must smoke in a glass cage booth resembling the old phone booths. That required a double take.

Yelp
I haven't been in Arlanda Airport in years and surprised at how much it has improved. It's now modern, has a good clean Scandinavian décor about it, well labeled and easy to get around. As before it's one of the airports well you'll find what appears to be a more classy set of passengers in that they seem more polite and better dressed than found in others. As for restaurants and food, the Swedes all speak perfect English, in fact better than some Americans, and carry themselves about with a touch more class and culture. Of course the prices are high, typically of Scandinavia, but not exorbitantly so. The big drawback with it for me is its distance from Stockholm which is somewhat in excess of 20 miles. If you hit it with light traffic you can you make the trip in less 40 minutes but if there is traffic, and the traffic can get heavy, there is no telling. When planning flights be cautious of holiday periods particularly Christmas and New Year. As the Swedes love their Christmas, the flight schedules in and out can change drastically if not being entirely eliminated. I'd go more than three stars for Arlanda if it weren't for the fact that it really isn't what I would call a city airport. The distance between Arlanda and Stockholm is a bit much and can be a real inconvenience.

Yelp
Yikes! This airport felt like a third world country once we returned from our day layover and were catching our flight to Berlin. The terminals were outdated, and downright uncomfortable. Tons of people everywhere, very small gates, constant gate changes (that you very well better figure out on your own because there were no announcements), extremely long lines for anything, terrible food/beverage options and forget about it if you have to hit the restroom I literally held it until we landed in Berlin. I've heard horror stories of airports and would have never expected this here but boy was I wrong! I wouldn't rule out flying through here again if need be, but the airport terminal experience was just downright horrid from what I have been accustomed to in many, many other places and countries.

Yelp
It's comparable to a good airport in the U. S. of A. like ORD (Chicago) or SAN (San Diego). This is a convenient user friendly 3-star airport, not too far from downtown, about 24 minutes sans traffic. I've flown into/out of this airport this summer and have had no issues. It's very packed when it comes to security checkin, even with the equivalent of pre-TSA. But food options are great, there as Max (Swedish version of hamburger, with the best "truly" French fries), Euro power plugs are semi-abundant. Shopping is abundant for people who like that. Products are top notch and you will find the best merchandise and Swedish " apothecary secrets" for looking good. What makes this airport special to me is the children's playground. Never seen anything as rooted to Swedish culture and tradition. Very nice art installation and playground by famed children's author: Elsa Beslow. That children can play here and attach to their folklore is amazing. One extra star for the curators of the museum to have the foresight to think about its future generations. Visits:1 Tip: When navigating the airport, look for Information Booths. Helpful staff. Was able to navigate my way out to the train shuttle into downtown just by watching signs so it's not confusing here. Wifi is free for an 1 hour or 100MB

Yelp
Nice size airport - small enough to be manageable but large enough to have lots of restaurants & shops & a very nice SAS Lounge Free wifi- no personal credentials required Be forewarned though that Global Blue will * only * stamp items purchased in the Scandinavian countries & if you have other EU purchases, you will have to go to Swedish Customs to get a stamp And that's OUTSIDE security and not open until 10am ....... so if you have an early flight, you're out of luck

Yelp
Flying into Arlanda was really great. We landed at about 1pm and found immigration to be empty, thus we were down in baggage claim quite quickly. Bags came out relatively quickly and we soon found our driver. Everything was a breeze. Flying out of Arlanda was good and bad. We had a 3:20pm flight, but due to circumstances arrived at the airport about 4.5 hours early. Finding our check in area wasn't the quickest, but eventually we found it after navigating through a ton of people. Security line was super fast, so that was a plus. After security we found the options on shops and food to be a little lacking, so we gathered our large group at the Irish restaurant. With 4 hours to kill we found the airport a bit boring, and the lounges weren't worth checking out either.

Yelp
User- friendly. If your flight is coming from a Schengen agreement country, you may not have to do customs again. I am in favor of this. Assistant counter workers were very helpful explaining the different options to get into Stockholm. We took a 50 minute long bus, s'ok. She sold us the tickets at right at the assistance desk.

Yelp
I had such a wonderful experience in the Arlanda airport. It's clean, everyone was so kind and FREE internet. Why don't more US airports have free WiFi. It was decent in speed and I was so thankful! I love that I was able to check in for my flight via a kiosk. So simple and efficient. I was able to print my boarding pass and get to my gate quickly. When leaving the airport we were able to find tickets for the bus we needed to take fairly easily and people were kind to help us get to the right spot. We did have a slightly hard time finding something that we wanted to eat. We ended up getting a burger and fries. Be warned, food in Sweden is expensive and the airport food was even more.

Yelp
Stockholm airport is big and shiny. It has the sky city part which is excellent and allows you to eat and shop if you have the time between flights. The hotels are also excellent 'free unlimited' wifi in the Clarion hotel on multiple devices! Whilst terminal 5 is the largest it's not the cleanest/freshest. This is a busy hub airport for both leisure travellers and business travellers. My simple question is why unlike say Copenhagen airport where wifi is free and unlimited why does Stockholm airport only give 1 hour or 100mb, which ever comes first!! In this day and age neither is enough to satisfy the modern day traveller. The cost of an hours paid wifi is nonsense and the buy 24 hour option whilst good if you are stuck at the airport for that long (unlikely as it is) is not necessary. Wake up Stockholm airport give the people what they want!!!

Yelp
The customer service here is just terrible. The look is nice, Scandinavia clean design. You got a couple of good shops too but omg, e v e r y time I'm here I just stunned about the attitude. I truly hope there will be a change... Somehow. It's pretty clean, the bathrooms at arrival, terminal 5, is always stinky for some reason, they don't look dirty tough.

Yelp
This airport is a mess. Five major airlines, including SAS, Icelandair, Lufthansa and Swiss share their check in, so just getting to checkin took nearly two hours. Process duplicated at security. Frustrated passengers jumping queue because they were late, and security would not intervene when other passengers asked. Lots of construction to step around. No time to try the amenities. If you're flying internationally, arrive at least four hours before your flight, or perhaps try a different country all together.

Yelp
Umm... not really the best airport experience ever. I had a brief layover here, flew from Oslo and was heading to JFK, stopped in Stockholm on the journey home. The airport terminal I was in was sort of bland, not really anything I would want to look at, other than the duty free which even then didn't appeal to me. I didn't think the airport was clean, especially the bathrooms which surprised me. I guess for some reason, I assumed the Swede's would be cleaner than that. The customs agents were quite rude when trying to cross into the gate area where my flight was. I had asked them how to access the gate since I'd never been there and their response, "it's not open". That's it. It's not open, which I clearly understood since the door was locked... Finally, I figured out on my own what I needed to do. Inside of that gate area wasn't much nicer, a small kiosk with food, another dirty bathroom and some seats for us to wait. Just didn't do what I hear is a beautiful place, justice. I was more than happy to pull away from the gate to get out of that airport. I definitely want to visit Sweden, but not looking forward to having to fly here again.

Yelp
Not the greatest airport, all the good stuff is available before heading to your specific waiting area. My water bottle was empty from the last flight because who would have thought you had to pay money for water at an airport in Europe? At this airport I think they sold water somewhere but their price menus looked way different than they looked at Rome, Italy's airport. Also my phone was low on power and their USB ports didn't work with my phone.

Yelp
A busy, busy airport. There are plenty of amenities, from food choices to shopping. It can take a bit of time to get through security, please plan accordingly. Swedes are pretty good about rules, hence you can remain seated until you are called. If you speak English, you are going to be quite comfortable navigating around the airport. The best option to and from the airport, while a bit pricey, is the airport express.

Yelp
I only had the opportunity to fly out of ARN as I came into Stockholm by ferry from Helsinki. The airport was easy to navigate and after you go through security you have duty free, shopping, restaurants and lounges. Flights are on time at least during the early morning hour.

Yelp
Welcome to Sweden. Another huge european airport. It is huge with plenty of stores, food courts, and bars. It is a main flight connection between european countries therefore it is filled with lots of people traveling from around the globe. Typical euro airport at that, but enjoyed going through here.
