4 Best Day Trips from Philadelphia | Condé Nast Traveler

"Just off Lititz's main street, Stoll & Wolfe Distillery is proudly reviving the art of whiskey making in Pennsylvania. Stoll, an octogenarian, trained at Jim Beam in a now-shuttered nearby distillery, and Wolfe is the brains and engine behind the business, with youthful ambition and energy. Together, they’re making waves in the spirits world; and despite their small-town origins, they've been named one of the top three rye whiskeys in the U.S. The tasting room, where you can sample the tipples that have earned them recognition, has an inviting ambience, with dark walls and exposed brick. If you're lucky you'll get to chat with one of the owners." - Nancy DePalma

Google
Most delicious rye whiskey I have had to date . Besides being so local.the rye comes from here, the long generational history they have with the area is fascinating. Outdoor seating, beautiful bar inside. Want to take home a true authentic sovieneer from Lititz PA? Don't mis getting this American Small Batch whiskey or apple brandy. Rare find!

Google
Bartender enforced a limit of 4 drinks even if you were only drinking 5% New Trail lagers!? Fine, your place your rules. Then the bartender said “but you can come back in an hour.” So we have to leave, but we can go to another bar, do shots, and then return!? 🤡 Thanks for giving my wife and I something to laugh at for the rest of the evening! Good mixed drinks though.

Google
This place has become a favorite of mine, I stop there every time I'm in Lititz for work, and I've brought new people with me every time. Their whiskeys are all fantastic, and the food they offer is amazing(but limited). I always leave with at least one bottle of their Ghost Pepper Vodka, you should try the "Ghosted" drink and you'll see why. The pictures are of the first time I made the Ghosted for myself and my wife at home.

Google
Absolutely love this place! Suzy is the bomb! She makes the best drinks and is always smiling and gives the best attention to detail. Coming her frequently just to see her and drink their fantastic Rye whiskey.

Google
We took a quick day trip to Litiz from West Chester and highly recommend Stoll and Wolfe Distillery. Susie was an incredible mixologist. Had fabulous skills, great recommendations, and we were fortunate enough for there to be a lull when we arrived so she was able to talk cocktail history with us. The menu she has crafted was carefully thought through, unique, and delicious. One of the absolute best whiskey sours I’ve ever had. 10/10 would recommend - well worth the hour drive!

Google
Great experience. Knowledgeable bartenders cocktails were great. Showcased their liqours perfectly. Ghost pepper chili vodka was the surprise hit. Tasty. My favorite was the Kindered rye. Very good.

Google
A friend and I stopped in for a drink and had a great experience. The atmosphere was very relaxed and casual. The bartenders were very helpful. I had the Old Blue (blueberry old fashioned) and the cheese plate. The drink was perfectly mixed and the cheese plate had a great range (fresh, Brie, and sharp), plus a great jam and bread. I look forward to going back and trying something new.

Google
5 Stars, Great time visiting here, class was excellent, outstanding whiskey products, very tasty snacks, very knowledgeable staff. Instagram @foodieadventuresusa

Yelp
They know whiskey! Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and history behind S&W. Our flight came with 3 tastes, all distinct and well made. Staff provided good service, and this place is in walking distance from the downtown area (although parking is provided as well). The tasting room and bar areas were clean with seating available inside and outside. Would visit again!

Yelp
A friend and I came in for a tasting. She really likes whiskey and bourbon and I'm more of a vodka fan. We each did a tasting. She really enjoyed her selections and bought a bottle. Mine were ok. The bartender was friendly and told us about the history of the distillery. It's a cute place to visit, especially if you're a fan of whiskey.

Yelp
Been there now twice each time the service is very friendly and personable. The atmosphere is great to stop by and have a I drink meet, friends, and catching up and relaxed atmosphere

Yelp
Great place for a lovely drink and some bar snacks. Ordered an old fashion and an espresso martini. Both were good. Espresso martini wasn't sickening sweet at all. Also ordered the most delicious spinach dip! Great venue with small bar and seating both inside and outside. Service was great. Worth the stop! They do tours too and sell their own alcohol.

Nicole R.

Yelp
Bartender was fun and bubbly, the whiskey sour was great! Small bar but felt like we had a good group of people at the bar we all were talking. Great place to just chill and not be a stuck up New York B!t[#

Yelp
We first visited this place a year ago and we loved it!!! We took home many bottles for ourselves and our friends. We purposely are driving home to Atlanta this way so we could come to this distillery. I wish I could find our pictures from last year, but YELP doesn't let you search your pictures easily. Our first round of drinks was the summer old fashioned and the Stoll and Mule. I am an old fashioned fan and this was a great twist on a classic. It is rye, homemade birch beer reduction, walnut bitters, and flamed lemon. They were both very tasty and balanced. The second round of drinks were the tempting fate and basil (rye) bone. I liked them both but thing the basil (rye) bone was the better of the two. It is rye, watermelon lemonade, and jalapeño oil.

Yelp
I don't often get so excited to write a review, but I am today! This place is fantastic! Totally exceeded our expectations...great modern farmhouse vibe and more sophisticated than your average "bar". They have a variety of house-made bourbon, rye, and vodka. These are included in the tasting menu along with cocktails and snacks. We had a few hours to kill between our kids' baseball games so we stopped here for a few drinks and a bite to eat. What a winner! My husband loves old-fashioneds and said the one he had here was the best he's ever had. I tried the whiskey sour which was phenomenal, not your average supermarket mix it actually had real egg white and tamarind. I asked the barkeep (sorry I didn't get his name) about the "white" bourbon because I had no clue what that meant and he took the time to educate us about it and gave us each a small tasting. We ordered the charcuterie plate which really hit the spot with spicy pickles. And they were spicy! When we finished, the other barkeep (again I apologize I failed to get her name) introduced us to "swamp water" where she used the spicy pickle juice and mixed it with vodka. Who knew this could be so good?!?! Super experience, really nice knowledgeable people and excellent food and drinks at a reasonable price. Plus we bought two bottles to take home. We will definitely be back next time we are near Lititz. If you care about small businesses, this is one to support because it's really awesome!

Yelp
Haven't been there for a few years, stopped in last night with some friends. I must say the drinks were excellent. The Expresso Martini that Paul made was absolutely one of the best!!

Yelp
Impromptu stop on Mother's Day to the tasting room. We enjoyed some craft cocktails while we sat at the bar. My brother bought a bottle of whiskey to take home. They had a nice little tent set up outside for sitting and drinking. The bartender even made us a carrot cake cocktail just to taste and share. They also have beer. It's very cool to see the old bottles from Michter's distillery. It's a nice looking place & worth a stop. In May 2022 they are doing bridge work so the street is closed at one end but you can get there from the other side and park in their lot.

Yelp
stopped by for an afternoon cocktail. the menu of custom drinks was interesting and well organized. the small tables, sofas and bar area make it a relaxing spot for first dates or a group of friends. we ordered at the bar and chose a table near a window so we didn't have a server but drinks were made prompt and when we got ready to table out the process was quick.

Yelp
The beau and I stopped here to check out the spirits. With the storied history of rye whiskey in this part of Pennsylvania, we had high expectations. Stoll & Wolfe did not disappoint. All of the spirits were high quality and very good. The service was excellent.

Yelp
Great atmosphere walking distance from downtown Lititz. My wife and I went with another couple and many amazing beers and cocktails were had! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great unique cocktails in an out of the way setting. Small but busy place. Outdoor patio seating in the parking lot might be nice on a warmer day.

Yelp
I didn't know the town we were staying in had a distillery. We found this hidden gem and it was very nice. It was a small town distillery, small, but quaint and nice. We had a couple of drinks. I had a new fashioned. The new fashioned was great. It used the Rye Whiskey that was aged in a rum barrel. Good stuff. I had sampled the Rye and Bourbon and they were good solid whiskeys. The brewer and woman waiting on us were very nice. Very talkative, told me a little of the history of the distillery and their products. They made recommendations on places to go. I did take them up on the Mad Chef Craft Brewery and it was a good recommendation. This place has a rich history of one of the well known master distillers in the area ( Dick Stoll) great background and history. I'm happy I found this hidden gem and took a Rye Whiskey to go home with me back to Pittsburgh. I recommend checking this place out.

Yelp
An aspiring distillery with a strong lineage. Building on the "true" Michter's heritage, Stoll & Wolfe is building a solid base. The tasting room is very comfortable. The cocktail offerings are creative. The staff is helpful and attentive. Their bourbon and rye offerings will be better in a few years, but there is no feast to delay your visit.
google avatar

Gina A.

Yelp
This is a super cute distillery. It's really quaint and warm. I wish I would have had more time to try several of the drinks as there were some creative drinks that you don't find anywhere. They do of course have your typical drinks like manhattans and old fashioneds, but they also also have creative spins on whiskey sours. I had a New York sour which had a merlot mix in it. The service was a little slow as Tobias was the only person working, however it was a rainey Thursday night so I wouldn't expect much staff. The bartender was nice, attentive and gave a great drink recommendation.

Yelp
Spent a few days in Lancaster and after trying to look for a Distillery to check out we landed here. I'm so happy we came to Stoll and Wolfe! It was a Thursday afternoon and my boyfriend and I were the only ones because it was still early in the day. The bartender was so hospitable and friendly. He recommended spots for us to check out and he made us a cool cocktail to try called the ghosted and it was delicious! We ended up buying the bottle of the ghost pepper vodka he used to make it. We also ordered a mule, a whiskey flight and the soft pretzel. Totally recommend this spot for anyone either visiting or from the Lancaster area.

Yelp
Visited Stoll & Wolfe a lot during covid. They offered cocktails to go for a reasonable price. Overall, I've always enjoyed their cocktails. I like that they change their menu seasonally, but the prices are a bit steep. I look at it as a great spot to have a single drink then move on to the next place. Everyone who works there is great! Indoor seating is limited, but they have outdoor space as well. Best spot in town for quality, creative cocktails. Little Lititz delivers once again!

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in in a whim after we had been at the fire & ice event. The place has a really warm and cozy vibe. My wife had a specialty vodka drink and I have a bourbon neat. We had some salmon dip (spread) and a pretzel, both were great and presented well. Pricing is what I would expect. It's order at the bar - which we are ok with. All in all a great stop that we will return to from time to time.

Fred D.

Yelp
Very good whiskey and mixed drinks very good service also. We try to stop by when ever we can
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
Great tasting room. A flight of whiskey was a great way to sample 1/2 once of 3 of their choices. My daughter enjoyed their take on the whiskey sour. And the garlic dip was great. Music was a bit too loud for conversations inside, but the patio was super.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Be careful to check your receipt before you leave. I was charged for a double tasting. They were very busy and the pours were light. The Rye IS very tasty so i suppose it was worth the double charge.

Yelp
Was in Lititz this past weekend and looking for things to do. Before we even arrived we saw this distillery. Luckily it was open on Sunday because almost everything in Lititz is closed on Sundays. The place is pretty but has ample parking and an outside seating area. We went in and were one of 3 parties. The bartender was super nice and very knowledgeable about the products they served. They make several whiskeys/bourbons as well as a few vodkas. I opted to try the old fashioned and it was crafted perfectly. Good size pour and garnished well. The whiskey was very smooth and had great flavors. My friend ordered a flight and enjoyed the 3 that she tried. They have bottles for purchase as well as food you can order. If you're in the area I think it is a definite stop! They're super professional and the atmosphere is great. I really enjoyed the short time I spent here and would definitely visit again in the future.

Yelp
Stopped in on a week day evening, so it was pretty empty. There were some chatty customers at the bar, so we chose a quieter table in the corner. The bartender let us know that she was the only person working, so there was no table service. Not a problem! My cocktail was tasty and not too strong. Nice atmosphere and good drinks!

Yelp
Great staff, fantastic drinks, nice atmosphere! Great to see dedicated people start and succeed in Lititz, my hometown.

Yelp
This was the 2nd location we hit today. The flight for tasting included only 3 selections for $10 with 4 ryes 2 bourbons 2 gins and vodka. My friend got the taster while I ipted to get a Sazarac since so few places make them. The bartender was a hoot. I wish I got his name. He explained the order of the flight and we chatted a bit over the merits of an aerator vs a swirl for the Absinthe. The flught was $10 and my drink was $9. The bar stools were for kids butts not adult butts. A very hipster vibe.....which uf you read my reviews yknow Im NOT a fan. Still....you cant exclude them as they ARE in the most adorable small town in PA...LITITZ.
google avatar

Evangeline B.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped here randomly while stopping in Lititz and were so happy and pleasantly surprised. We tried the tasting menu and enjoyed all of them, but especially the gin, barrel aged gin, hibiscus vodka, and bourbon. We ordered the spicy pickles and pretzel. We were pleasantly surprised by the size and quality of the pretzel. As a pickle fan, I was truly impressed by the spicy pickles. The perfect amount of spice and crisp. We closed with the fix fizz and were so happy. It was an excellent experience.

Yelp
Great place! Stopped here with friends one night after dinner. The bartenders were great and did an excellent job recommending things. Love the whole ambience and decor inside. Bathrooms were clean. Prices were great. Cannot wait to get back when it's warmer outside to enjoy the outdoor seating!

Greg K.

Yelp
Love stopping by for a cocktail. We live in Lititz and this gem is just slightly off the well-trodden tourist path. Bartenders are always friendly and the locally-sourced potables delicious. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I are Lititz locals and discovered this place a few weeks ago. The service is always impeccable and the drinks are creative and well crafted (thanks Tobias!). We will now only buy their flagship Rye to drink at home. The only thing missing is an appetizer menu to help soak up all the delicious adult beverages you're consuming. :)

Yelp
Bartender/manager was great! He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! Great place to grab some drinks!

Dan D.

Yelp
A must stop if near Lititz. Great service. only draw back is the flight glasses . they get a 10 on cuteness and a zero on functionality. rims are too small to drink from.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Excellent selection, high quality beverages, very friendly, courteous staff! First time visitor today, will definitely return!
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
I'm giving this place three stars because, The atmosphere is wonderful, and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, but unfortunately the product they sell is less so. Being whiskey lovers, my girlfriend and I sampled their blended whiskey, nine-year-old bourbon, straight rye whiskey, and rye whiskey aged in rum barrels, none of which we much cared for. We found the nine-year-old bourbon to be the best, but at $90 a bottle we found the price tag to be pretty outrageous (when you can get a bottle of Elijah Craig or Eagle Rare for $30). So, a nice place with very friendly and knowledgeable staff but a substandard product.
google avatar

Charity L.

Yelp
Truly great experience! The spirits are well crafted and the cocktails are inspired. Make plans to visit!
google avatar

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
Passed by here in the late summer. Was pleasantly surprised with some great bourbon/whiskey and rye. Can't wait to return when I can sit down and have a drink.
google avatar

Sunny B.

Yelp
I moved from Nashville a few months ago and have struggled with the relative lack of good craft cocktails in the area by comparison. However, I would return here. Quaint, rustic environment. The cocktails are good, beautifully presented and above average for the area. I think this distillery and cocktail bar is an example of the growing trend of craft cocktails here. This location accommodates to/go cocktails that are pre-bottled but not made-to-order. There were four options. It is nice to at least have this option. The bartenders were very friendly.

Shannon B.

Yelp
Great bar with the bonus of a distillery and bottle shop! Love the handcrafted cocktails with scratch syrups, herbs, and other wholesome ingredients. Cozy but sophisticated atmosphere inside, nice outside patio seating. A real asset to the surrounding neighborhood!
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Loved our visit here - friendly staff, imaginative mixed drinks and very good spirits. Well worth a visit - we will go again.
google avatar

Lucy C.

Yelp
HIGHLY recommended! Expertly-made cocktails, good beer selection, music, and a great rustic atmosphere.
google avatar

Lila T.

Yelp
Fantastic cocktails--perfect blends of perfect ingredients. Lovely atmosphere for fancy but not fussy cocktails with friends. BYOB Food! Our group tried the lititz mule, Manhattan, old fashioned, and whiskey sour. All amazing!

David W.

Yelp
I have supported S&W since they opened, however; the last 2 times I tried to go, I did not have good experiences. First time, the bartender saw me pull in and promptly locked the door. It was well before their advertised closing time. Tonight, I walk-in at 7:38 and was told that last call was at 7:30, closing was at 8pm. FB page says they are open until 9pm on Fridays. Bartender told me they opened at noon. Guess I need to take a half day vacation so I can get a drink there. Not happy.

Yelp
We went into this establishment today 2/12/22 at 4:55pm it was crowded people standing and sitting drinking Paul the bartender leaned over to my brother and said its going to be an hour for a large party , it was 8 of us and no one had asked at all Paul just singled my brother out and because we all were BLACK assumed we were a big party but we actually were couples paying as a couple not a large party but because we were BLACK he assumed. Some very nice people said oh we are leaving you can have our seats they were about to leaving we said Thank You , they talked to us while they were putting their coats on asked where we were from told them then they talked about the Philadelphia Eagles, they left gave us their seats so my little brother sat in the 5th seat I was about to sit in the seat closest to wall Paul rushed over to me leaned in and sat everyone has to be sitted to drink and you have a large party it will be at least an hour. We had 5 seats then it was a few more in middle of bar that we were going to sit at no taken But why did we have to sit together and Why couldn't we stand if some were sitting because there were people already standing while drinking , so the entire vibe was off He didn't want us there and didn't want to outright say it But we all got the message. The lady bartender never came over to us but as soon as she saw us she put her mask BUT every person in there was maskless but they also wasn't BLACK! Covid has nothing to do with this incident Racism does ! Maybe if we were with white we would have served! So my advice to all Afro Americans don't patronized this location.

Shirley L.

Yelp
Went here on a sunny Saturday afternoon, too hot to be outside but comfortable inside. I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place and the drinks were good and the service was excellent! Bartender was gracious and knowledgeable about the products. I wish they would consider a food truck or food of some sort so we could drink more - no food and alcohol are not a good mix.

Gretchen C.

Yelp
Awesome experience. Cool building and great staff. Paul was an excellent host and was very knowledgeable about the history of whisky and the company. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Karissa L.

Yelp
Went here while on vacation to Lititz. They were closed at 2:00 on Sunday. Went back on Tuesday and ran into locals who were also shocked they were closed. Lights were on inside this time tried to call and they had no notice or message saying they were closed. The hours on the door said they were open.

Yelp
Delicious cocktails with awesome ingredients... Whiskey sour was truly incredible. Gorgeous building, fabulous staff.

Yelp
Awesome Distillary. So fun to learn about whiskey and the drinks were fantastic. A defininate must do!!
