A beautiful cathedral church to visit which was open on a Sunday. There was no entrance fee. Next door was the Bell Tower to enter for a small fee. You had to walk up to the top which had a beautiful view of the area.

In the main square of Koper, Tito Square, is the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary. The cathedral was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style and later completed in the Renaissance style. In front of the cathedral is the town tower, which has been converted into a bell tower.

Stolnica Marijinega Vnebovzetja church in Koper is a beautiful cathedral with stunning architecture and a peaceful interior. A must-see landmark in the heart of the old town.

We stopped in Koper while on a cruise in the Mediterranean. We took a self guided walking tour using Google maps. This square was very picturesque with great buildings to study. We had coffee at a nice restaurant overlooking the square. The church is on the square. Outside it is not much to look at but the inside is quite beautiful.

Old church, very modern inside

It's not the most stunning looking cathedral from the outside but the interior is lovely. Although the whole setting with the bell tower and palace in the surrounding square makes for some great photos and a lovely place to walk and relax. The bell tower was €3 each and has 204 steps to the top. As usual you get a good view from the top. It is also suppose to be the oldest working bell tower in Slovenia.

This cathedral is one of the biggest churches in Slovenia. Almost completely white and quiet interior contrasts with the lively square in front of the church. Art lovers will find some precious art pieces (main and side altars) and they will certainly apreciate the breathtaking white facade. Visit of the bell tower is possible as well.
