Google
This was a great winery, and the cellar tour was excellent. I would highly recommend. Unfortunately, since we visited in January, the restaurant was closed, but we hope to come back and try it sometime. The wine tastings and the shop were excellent.

Google
Never been and we truly loved it. Did the tour, amazing how rich in history this place is and how Missouri has so much unknowns. Also did the wine tasting. We had lunch at the restaurant too. Truly a remarkable day with my loved ones.

Jimmy Tara S.

Google
Some of the better wine in Missouri. With the tasting, you get to keep the glass. Was very surprised how much we liked their wine. Came home with 6 bottles. Amazing view of Hermann from up there.

Google
We went on fall harvest festival day. The experience was great. This winery is right in Hermann and it's easy to get to even though it's on a hill. The grounds are nice and very historic. We didn't visit all parts but we got a good feel for the place. The tasting room capacity is big and it's a great experience. They make a lot of wines so there are many to choose from. The store is huge. There are some wines you can only get at the store on the premesis. This was one of the best winery experiences I've had. Stone hill is a popular brand in the area. They have something for almost everyone.

Google
I tried a glass of the Hellbender wine at the hotel bar last night so decided I would do the tour and tasting today. Steve was an excellent guide both for my tour and tasting. The history of wine making in Missouri was interesting as well as seeing the incredible hand built stone cellars. I tried my six wines and every one of them was good. They seem to have something for every taste.

Kim S.

Google
Be sure to take advantage of the free cellar tour. The guides provide a great history of the winery to help the visitor understand not just the wine-making process, but the town and the culture in which it exists. Their wine is very good and worth the stop.

Google
We enjoyed the cellar tour and a tasting. Our tour guide, John, was top notch. It was really enjoyable to learn so much about Hermann wine history. The tasting was our favorite of the day with good insights, not rushed, and very tasty.

Amy J.

Google
This was our first stop on our little wine tour in Hermann. It ended up being my favorite location. Our complimentary tour was actually really neat and we learned a lot about the history of missouri wine. The cellars are just beautiful! After a day of drinking wine I unfortunately do not remember the name of our guide, but he did a magnificent job. (I believe he was a STL native, and has been in Hermann for two years) The tasting was also very cool, and informative. I highly recommended a visit if you are in the area!

Yelp
We visited the Stone Hill Winery with my wife's sister and her husband. We did the guided tour of the wine cellars which actually have quite a bit of history (dug by hand, etc.). Our tour guide was great and we really enjoyed the tour. We enjoyed a delightful lunch on the patio - the food and service were quite good. My only criticism of the dining experience was when the waitress brough the check and my wife said she was picking it up and the waitress looked at the check and said "well, you're getting off pretty cheap". I think that comment was rude and uncalled for. We did buy some wine to take with us and enjoyed our visit despite the waitresses' comment.

Yelp
Location. Wine. Environment. Nonstop bustle. This venue is just hands down, beautiful. Stone Hill is a must visit when you're in town - do not opt out for the tour. This place has such amazing history, dating back to 1847. Stunning!
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
The wine/gift shop is wonderful with many great options. The tasting room is fun. There are awesome cacti in the sunroom. Be sure to take the winery tour--it's worth visiting where they make the wine!
google avatar

Lexi M.

Yelp
We had such a pleasant experience at Stone Hill Winery for a tasting and tour. Jill was THE BEST- I would highly recommend requesting her if you pay them a visit! The history on the tour was so interesting and we found a handful of wines we loved. We ended up buying 6 bottles but didn't notice until we got home that they gave us the wrong ones- that's really our only complaint. I also wished they had a better selection of merchandise!

Yelp
Went for dinner which was after winery hours. Barn like setting , casual and welcoming. Made reservations for our group of six. Service was slow and we had to repeat our orders to the waitress as she lost our originals. We ordered some starters , cheeses, potato pancake for sharing. We're ample and good. Most of us ordered German dishes which were typical, like cutlets, potato salad, cabbage. Salads included with meal and bread / rolls service . Did not leave hungry. Medium prices. Wine by the glass very reasonably priced. Beer available.

Amanda R.

Yelp
Stopped by Stone Hill for a tasting while riding the Trolley in Hermann. The place is much bigger than anywhere else and their selection of wine is huge. Their wines were probably my favorite of the ones we tried in Hermann. Employees were kind, but nothing outstanding.
google avatar

Dee M.

Yelp
We arrived just in time for a free tour! Our informative guide escorted us to underground cellars and explained the history of Stone Hill+ prohibition era and what led to today's family continuing ownership. After tasting a few whites and reds, we opted for the Hellbender Blanc + a bottle of Steinberg Rose (we typically settle on red wine, but these two were the stars). We kept our stemless wine glass, a souvenir w/ the $15 tasting fee. Next: lunch at Vintage. The ruben sandwich was my favorite! Vintage is a gem among all the Hermann restaurants. ** Odd as it sounds, good ole Sharp Corner burgers are a close 2nd.
google avatar

Randy P.

Yelp
Great Lunch option in Hermann MO. We ordered buffalo ranch chicken sandwich, and the German Duo which includes half portion of schweineschnitzel, bratwurst, and German potato salad. We also enjoyed the bread pudding desert. Gluten free options and flexible with food allergies. Clean restaurant and good service. Thank you.
google avatar

Maggie H.

Yelp
If you've only got time for one winery in Hermann, this is it. Great view. Plenty big. Good wine selection. Free tours. Paid tastings. $15. You choose 6 wines and you keep the glass. Stemless. The young lady who did our tasting was friendly. Minus one star because oyster crackers or saltines would have been helpful between tastes.
google avatar

Tara W.

Yelp
We went on the free Stone Hill Cellar tour and we loved it! What a unique history. Every employee we encountered at Stone Hill was pleasant and helpful as well. Their wine is also lovely and the view was gorgeous.
google avatar

Dexter Z.

Yelp
Really enjoyed hanging out / eating here for lunch ! It's a really cool building and view ... their wine is actually pretty popular and they have a ton of it . Overall I would definitely go back ... really enjoyed their German duo.
google avatar

Don L.

Yelp
Wine tasting in a group is so therapeutic! The service here is amazing, everyone is friendly and welcoming. We love their wine, something here for everyone. Noted quite a few wines that are only available here at the winery. Very enjoyable time for all.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by Stone Hill for a vineyard tour and private wine tasting while at Hermann, Oktoberfest - $30 for the tour and tasting, which include a small snack dish... Thought that was very reasonable so two thumbs up. Our wine server, Jaye was awesome... She was really friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. As for the wines themselves, they were all really good and well-priced. Def recommend the Ozark Nouveau, which is a medium body red wine that's served chilled... It was outstanding and very unique. Stone Hill is worth the stop when in Hermann.
google avatar

Kenny R.

Yelp
So here's the deal. They allow brought in food outside. Right now there is 6" of snow on the outside tables and we of course are inside. We were just told we can't have our food inside. Been coming here my entire life, and I'm 62 and this did it for me. Never ever coming back. Rules are rules when they make sense, this made no sense in this situation.
google avatar

Sam P.

Yelp
Went here for a wine tasting and it was an amazing time! It is only $15 for 6 wines to taste and you get a stemless wine glass with it which is awesome. Our server was Noah and he was extremely knowledgeable about the specific wines and wine in general. He was super nice and helpful. The building and property itself is gorgeous. The wine tasting is in a building from the 1800s so the environment is very cool. You get to select 6 choices from a menu with a ton of options from dry wines and sweet wines.
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
For my Louisville, KY people - this is the Huber's of Missouri (without the farm). I stopped here on my way home from vacation to break up the drive. Right off the bat, it was a completely overwhelming. There was a line to have your IDs checked before you went in to the shop. At the tasting area, you had to check in, pay and receive a time. As others said, the tasting was $12 and it did include the glass. There were several wines that I liked and I did take home several bottles. Because it was so busy, the tasting rooms were on 20 minute increments. So you kind of got the tasting and a little bit of info but not a lot. The servers seemed to be doing the best job with the time that they had. There was a local trolley constantly bringing people in when I stopped by. Most of the people on the trolleys were beyond drunk and still carrying bottles from their previous stops. This was a bit of a deterrent for me and I definitely wouldn't stop again on a weekend in the fall.

Yelp
Our tour guide for the cellar tour was fantastic! We also had fun with the wine tasting. Will come back, since the restaurant was closed on the day we went. A great afternoon!

Yelp
Hermann, Mo is about 3 hours away from Kansas City. Great place to get away. It's a quaint small German town. Stone Hill Winery is one of the many winery in the area located up a hill with great scenic view. We went through a tour of the winery, followed by a wine tasting. It was great. For $15 we got to taste 6 different types of wine. We found a bottle of our favorite to take home. Nice property to walk around and take pictures. Shop in the main building for wine and gifts to take home. There is also a restaurant on the premises. Staffs are very nice and inviting.
google avatar

Wendy B.

Yelp
Take the winery tour! It was very informative. We had the pretzel charcuterie after the tour with a nice bottle of Norton. Overall great experience
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
Amazing food and wine! Can't beat the prices either! Eat lunch and then do a wine tasting and play some COR hole! They are very knowledgeable about their wines!
google avatar

Vonny C.

Yelp
Beautiful fall day for affordable wine tasting! $15 for 6 samples of your choice. Lots of fun activities for everyone including corn hole, live music, beer garden, and plenty of tables in the sun!
google avatar

JoAnn M.

Yelp
Beautiful views, nice shop, good staff, award winning wines. Tastings are $15 (6 wines, keep the glass.) Really tasty sangria and Vignoles. A favorite spot to stop when driving from Texas to Iowa. It's in a great old German town with loads of history.

Yelp
First off, I am not a wine connoisseur by any means. All I know is that I like my wine dry, dark, and deep red. And if it's not dry red, I'll take a sweet white wine or port with snacks. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by their restaurant! They serve German food and usual American lunch food. We got a combo platter in order to try a bit of everything. The schnitzel was pretty tasty. The potato pancakes are thicker than latkes and served with chunky apple sauce. It's not as crispy as latkes but still very delicious. For drinks you can order by glass, by bottle, or get their wine flights. They split the flights into red, white, and couple other options I don't remember. Essentially you get three predetermined glasses. The red flight is $13 whereas the rest were around $10. The extra $3 was so worth it (because I loved the reds). My husband who usually gets white also liked two of the three reds we got. The food is a little pricey but this is a winery so it's expected. But the quality of food is probably better than most wineries. We paid $5 each to try 6 wines each for the tasting portion of our trip. So this means we should have gotten 12 total samples right? Well the lady we got was suuuuper nice and suuuuuper liberal with the sampling portions. We ended up getting 16 samples, not because we asked, but because she wanted us to taste the difference between a white wine on my husband's list vs another white wine not on our list that was made slightly different. We ended up buying 6 bottles-- 2 dry reds, 1 dry white, 1 sweet white, and 2 desserts (both made with whiskey). We drink wine so infrequently that this will last us close to a year. Our winery trip last year was to St. James, and we definitely liked Stone Hill better.

Yelp
When it comes to Hermann wineries, I think everyone knows Stone Hill. Wine is *good* for Missouri, lots of options. But DANG it's expensive to taste here! Plus you always have to wait for your turn. It's nice to come during the pandemic, and be outside. They usually have a band on weekends which is fun, some things to snack on. I think it's a spot everyone should go once, it has a fun layout, beautiful views, and you're right in the middle of the winery.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Our first Missouri winery experience and it was amazing! We were able to get in for a wine tasting right away. Noah served us and he did an amazing job! He was very personable and gave us recommendations. We went to 5 different wineries in town, and this one was my favorite! The wine prices are also extremely cheap for the flavor and quality. It is also located on a hillside so you can sit and have a picnic with a nice view with your wine. They even gave us wine glasses to keep with our tasting!! They also have a charcuterie fridge where you can buy a bunch of wine snacks.
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
Definitely a must visit when in Hermann, MO. Nice selection of wines and a lovely outdoor sitting area with a view from a top of the hill. The restaurant next door is very good also.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
The pandemic has resulted in more day trips for us during the week, when crowds are less and social distance is greater! We loved the meal here at likely the best high vista view on Hermann. The schnitzel here was so good, I'll be back!
google avatar

Wells L.

Yelp
TL:DR - not impressed at all with their wines. The grounds are beautiful with seating spread out. They do a better job than the other wineries in the area in terms of covid precautions. Tasting is on the high end at $12. Wines can be found cheaper at the local save-a-lot. ---------------------------------------------- I never know why I keep coming back to Stone Hill. I feel like it's because it's really popular? Buy maybe I only think their popular because they have a ton of ads? Cause the wine is not great. Granted people's wine preferences differ greatly, I just did not and have not ever enjoyed any of these wines the last three times I've been here. I will say the grounds and the building themselves are really beautiful. Stone hill has also implemented their covid precautions way better than the other wineries in the area. Their outdoor seating is way more spread out. The tastings are staggered in groups in which you have to sign in to do. You'll have to wait until the next available time slot. We waited about 10 min on a Saturday, so not bad. The tasting are $12, which is high. You do get to keep your tasting glass thought. Winery tours are closed during covid and the shop is all one way to reduce close interactions with other people. Most interactions with staff are also done behind plexiglass. Several of their wine options are also much cheaper at the local save-a-lot than can be bought at the winery itself.

Yelp
We loved our visit to Stone Hill! This was my first time to Hermann and this was definitely the place to go in our limited time there. We got there and immediately went on an amazing tour of the cellars and the vineyard. We spent probably a good 45 minutes tasting at the end of the tour. We loved so many of the wines. We loved the Traminette and if I remember correctly, the Chambourcin. We bought ourselves some wine glasses and a couple of bottles and had ourselves a night! The tour guide was very friendly and the winery itself was pretty extraordinary. I genuinely have no complaints and recommend to all who are visiting Hermann!
google avatar

Andy W.

Yelp
Very unKansas like experience with a lovely selection of wine and relaxing and charming music to finish up your day. I had the "whiskey to wine" which is part of their Cellar Series, and I loved the infusion of wine aged in whiskey barrels. Sitting in the shade amongst the grapes growing on the vines around you is an experience not to be missed!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
I visited during my birthday weekend. We tried the VIP tasting and our host was knowledgable, friendly, and did a fantastic job walking us through all the flavors. Great stories, too! I wish I could remember his name so I could give him props-Room 1 is that helps The winery was set up on the hill overlooking the town below. We enjoyed the views from the outdoor areas. Very cute gift shop. Great place to load up on goodies for yourself and souvenirs. We didn't take the tour but wish we had now. All the staff we encountered were friendly and accommodating. We had a great time and look forward to our next visit!
google avatar

Krista C.

Yelp
First winery visit in MO! Lots of space for parking. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in. Wine tastings you pay for but she only gave us a little to taste. Probably the least amount I've ever had during a tasting. The lady doing the tasting also didn't talk much about the wines. Was not super impressed. After the tasting we walked around the little shop tables they had for the derby day spring festivities. It was pretty cute on the inside. After was the wine tour. The Woman who was giving the tour was very knowledgeable and seemed pretty excited about the winery. Being able to see the barrels was the best part and hearing the back story was neat. But once that was over didn't do too much else. I think next time doing the wine tour would be best.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
The restaurant is amazing. The wine is pretty good and the wine cellar is really awesome. The view is pretty too!
google avatar

Kay L.

Yelp
This is a pretty winery. We made the mistake of walking here from our guest cottage. I would not recommend walking from downtown Hermann because it is a trek up the hill, but that was our mistake! The regular tasting is $5 to try 6 wines, which is very reasonable. The wines are good, not my favorite though. The tasting room was crowded so the tasting was a bit rushed, even though the man pouring the wine was very friendly. My favorite thing here are the wine slushees, which were very refreshing on a hot summer day! There were several tables in the shade outside and live music playing. Overall a good experience!
google avatar

Darla E.

Yelp
The tour is so awesome here! It's free which makes it even better, but the history lesson was my favorite part of the whole thing. Steve was the tour guide on Monday. He gave great history of the town of Hermann as well as the winery. It was most enjoyable just listening to him talk. The tour lasts about 30 minutes and takes you through the start of the winery and it's impact on the region, prohibition era, and brings you to the current day. The Norton grape vines are so nice to look at and the cellar is so awesomely cool! If you're in Hermann you owe it to yourself to stop in. We also ate at the restaurant onsite. I tried the pork schnitzel and it was yummy. The sauerkraut and german potatoes were delicious too. The restaurant has a unique ambiance, especially since the booths are fashioned out of the old horse stables. I also highly recommend the pretzel and cheese appetizer. Trust me you'll want to take some back to your B&B or take it home.

Laiecha H.

Yelp
I wish I could give my experience a zero star rating. Upon visiting the Stonehill restaurant over the weekend we were met by the hostess (and manager) Ashlea. She was very rude to myself & my group. She said she was unable to accommodate us and turned us away, yet she accommodated a group that entered the restaurant after us. Upon reading other reviews about this restaurant I have noticed that Ashlea has a bad reputation. Her unprofessionalism caused her to lose several customers that day. I plan to tell my family and friends about this terrible experience and we will never by Stonehill wine, nor visit this restaurant, again.
google avatar

Becky D.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds that sit up in a hill. There are picnics outside overlooking some vines that offer a nice place to enjoy a bottle of wine. Some snacks are available inside and while not inexpensive they are good. Wine: for dry wine drinkers, we were pleasantly surprised by the Vidal Blanc. For under 10$ a bottle it's a steal for a light, easy drinking wine. The Cross J Norton is what once convinced me to appreciate and love a good Norton. Try it here! These are not vina viniferous grapes but if you go into tasting MO wines not expecting those with a willingness to expand your palate, you may end up finding some you really enjoy! Covid precautions: they are limiting the number of people in tasting rooms. The tasting rooms gave plexiglass between servers and visitors. The rooms are large/tall ceilings. We felt like they did a great job here of at least attempting some sort of mitigation strategy.
google avatar

Kelsie T.

Yelp
Ahhhhh. This winery was actually the worst winery I have ever been too. We where asked to leave an area WHERE WE PAID to be!!! I asked the staff why we where not aloud to be in that area and she said it was for token holders only. We where token holders. We paid to do a tasting and be in the token holder area. The worker could not explain that. We where rushed out of the tasting because people where waiting. So disrespectful and rude. We are in a group of 18 and will not return or recommend this shitty winery to anyone else.
google avatar

A B.

Yelp
The winery is beautiful and sits atop a hill overlooking Hermann and the site of the original vineyards. It is worth a visit just to stroll around the grounds. The winery tour is free and lasts around 30 minutes. You'll learn a bit about the history of Hermann and the winery and walk through the cellars. It was definitely worth our time. We enjoyed seeing the old cellars and hearing more about the wine making process. Our guide was friendly, informative, and was happy to answer questions and engage our group. We did not do a tasting, but purchased a bottle of Norton to bring home. I was also excited to learn that they were having their Christkindlmarkt during our visit, but it turned out to be not much more than 20-30 vendors set up in their Sherry building. Yes, they had mulled wine and there were a couple of booths selling German goods. I'm glad we didn't make a trip specifically for this event. Overall, nice visit and I'll stop by again when I'm in Hermann.

Yelp
We had been looking forward to taking my sister in law here for lunch for weeks before her visit on July 20th. Finally the day arrived we even looked at the menu online so we knew what we wanted before getting there. I ordered the Schwineschnitzle with german potato salad and red cabbage. First bite the schnitzle breading tasted sour. I know some use lemon on their meat when preparing it so I went for bite 2 same thing. Hmmm now to try the rest of the plate. The potato salad was sweet like they had poured sugar in instead of salt. The red cabbage was mush and cooked way too long. I told the waitress and she more or less shrugged it off. My husband and sister in law ate their brats and sauerkraut but the onions were too think and not pickled long enough. Oh boy what to do? So I spoke to the manager who handled it and gave us a percentage off the ticket. I just wanted that schnitzle so bad and still wanting one. Epic disappointment!!
google avatar

Sheila D.

Yelp
We went there for the experience and while we weren't thrilled with the wines, we did decide to buy a couple of bottles. We asked them to be accommodating as we paid for the most expensive VIP wine tasting they gave us stemware which we could not travel with, we asked them to please switch them out for the less expensive wine glasses which travel better. We were met with an emphatic no, by the manager and staff. They said it would mess up their inventory. If I had known that they would be so rude about, I wouldn't have gone there in the first place. We wanted to partake on the dinner next store and when we found out they were owned by the same company, we paid for a ride somewhere else.
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
This place is a bit more commercial than I like but the winemaker at Bommarito suggested it since it was our first time in that area. We did the complimentary tour which was interesting and followed it with a tasting. I was surprised that a winery this big gave plastic cups for tasting. Tsk tsk I did enjoy some of the wines and bought a bottle as a gift. It gets packed here so parking may be far (and uphill) but there's a golf cart that can pick you up and drop you at the door. The restaurant had a great German sampler plate.
google avatar

Rosemary L.

Yelp
Favorite winery so far! Not only was the wine phenomenal, we learned so much at the wine tasting. We were a big group, and while it was busy, we didn't have any issues with finding a large enough table or all being able to attend the same tasting. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Hermann!
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
Our server, Courtney, absolutely made our wine tasting experience. Her expertise and lighthearted demeanor taught us newbie wine drinkers a thing or two. The wine is as expected for Missouri wines, I will say the selection at Stone Hill is much more expansive than others in the area. This place is huge with so many indoor and outdoor places to sit. We didn't get a chance to take the cellar tour this time around, but on the hour there is a free tour. Next time!
google avatar

Frank H.

Yelp
I ordered a case of wine this past Monday the 17th. Today we received our order. Very good service. I would like to visit the winery, maybe one day we will get back to Missouri again and make time. We enjoy the wines from this winery.

Scott K.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Best wines, best atmosphere, and best people! We had a very nice lunch at the Vintage restaurant I recommend the soft pretzels with spicy cheese dipping sauce. We did a VIP wine tasting it was $15 instead of the $12 for the regular tasting. OMG it was worth it. Our host, Chris, was phenomenal! He knew so much about the wines, the process, and seemed to really enjoy what he was doing. My recommendation would be to pony up the extra $3, and do the VIP. And ask if Chris is on duty, it is well worth it. The tour was short, sweet, and free. They run four per day spaced out just right. The cellars, and history are very interesting. I would highly recommend this winery, and when I go back to Hermann, I would make this my last stop on the tour. You can spend all day there.

Yelp
My friends and I went to Hermann last weekend to celebrate my sister's bachelorette party. When we got to Stone Hill, we decided to grab a bite. Upon entering, we knew our group of 12 will need to be split into 2 tables. Their kitchen closes at 2 and it was only 1:07. We saw a couple of tables that were open so we thought we were good. The hostess, Ashlea said she won't be able to accommodate our group because the kitchen closes at 2. She offered to order to go but we declined. While waiting for the trolley to visit the next winery, we saw another big group walked into the restaurant. When they didn't come out, our friends walked back into the restaurant to confirm that the group of 9 was accomodated. It was already 1:20 at this time . When we asked Ashlea her rationale for not seating us, she said we weren't willing to wait and that our group didn't want to be split. Both were lies. The difference between our group and the other group was the color of our skin. If the smirk she gave our group was any indication of any attempt on service recovery, I will not be holding my breath. This establishment is not welcoming to a person of color.

Yelp
In town with the Lady for a fun weekend and decided to check out Stone Hill Winery. So charming. We ate, we took the cellar tour (a must) and we sampled wine. First of all the view from the hilltop is excellent. You get a wonderful view of Herman that makes a great pictorial backdrop. Take the free cellar tour. Our guide was a treat to listen to and the history of the place was enjoyable. Lots to look at and learn about. The wine tasting was good. Prices were very good. They have 3 tasting rooms all serving the same wine. They just have 3 to keep up with the crowds. The wines were interesting and complex. The servers very knowledgeable about each. Worth the price even if you are not a big wine drinker. We also tried their restaurant and that was kind of a fail. Still only feel we can take a star off the visit for it as the rest of the place as excellent. The Good Great History. Fun and interesting free cellar tour. Great views. Lots of wines to sample without busting your wallet. The Bad Can get a bit crowded. The Ugly Skip the on site restaurant.

Yelp
Went for dinner . Split a plate with a friend . We got the pan fried fritter thing w wine sauce. It was good. We arrived to late to visit the store. If you are going to charge extra to share a plate please split it in the kitchen. It makes a mess at the table and takes away from the dining out experience.
