On the Grid : Stone Street Historic District

"Stone Street, aptly named for its cobblestone pavers, is a pedestrian-only walkway lined with lively bars and restaurants. Grab a pie at Adrienne's pizza bar, post up at the picnic tables, and enjoy the outdoor vibes. For the raw bar enthusiasts, the Stone Street Oyster Festival, Manhattan's largest outdoor oyster festival is hosted here annually serving up 35,000 oysters to 10,000 guests — aw, shucks!" - Paperless Post

Única rua de pedra em NYC. Rodeada de bares. Conheci na festa de St Patrick Day e me apaixonei por este lugar, parece uma vila no interior.

Yelp
In all the years I have been in NYC ( born and raised) I do not think I have ever came to Stone Street. Its a narrow row of bars and restaurants on an actual street that is made of stones. I was only here for Oktoberfest which was rainy. But still it was fun. I would definitely come back on a non fest weekend and check out the actual insides of these bars/restaurants.

Yelp
Visited during Octoberfest. It was great for bar hopping and visiting historical lower Manhattan. Definitely worth the visit

Yelp
Definitely worth a visit! It's beautiful and lined with restaurants. In the summer, there are tons of outdoor tables.

Yelp
Oktoberfest was chaotic but is such a vibe! Granted this street is small but is lined with a plethora of bars ans restaurants and is walking distance to the ferry. This is on my list to check out when things are a bit quieter. Fun times though!

Yelp
Like an old slice of time back to when the city was New Amsterdam. I worked in the area recently for the past three years, and loved coming to Stone Street on a nice day for lunch or after work drinks on a warm summer night. There is just something about the old cobblestone streets, the large communal tables, and a mix of old and new that seems to put everyone in a good mood here. It's one of the oldest parts of the city, nestled in an area with modern buildings and skyscrapers. Stone Street is lined with a diverse set of bars and restaurants to choose from. There is also some public seating if you just want to take a seat and observe. During the summer it's quite a lively scene here, and crowded, but the most fun time to go.

Yelp
Great touristy street - ton of really interesting bars with plenty of places to sit and drink. So what unique for New York City so definitely worth a stop off especially if you're 21+

Yelp
There aren't many older streets than Stone Street in Manhattan. It's literally made of stones. This is in one of the very first parts of New York. At that time it was actually New Amsterdam. The bars are the main attraction here. It gets crowded. It really does just because the street is so narrow. The bars have their outdoor seating extended into the street where you can sit in tents. It's pedestrian only, which is a good thing because cars wouldn't be able to fit. The street is right next to Wall Street. It's also pretty close to the riverfront. This is a few blocks from the ferry terminals. It has so many bars Some of the best include Mad Dog And Beans and The Dubliner. The bar tents make it seem like a festival.

Yelp
If you are with a group of people, this street is amazing. Young, trendy and lots of places to eat. Their outdoor seating is wonderful. Owing to its history, it is a part of the city that is reminiscent of New Amsterdam, NYC older name. It actually looks like some parts of present day Amsterdam.

Yelp
Maybe we went at the wrong time, maybe it's less than we expected, but I wasn't totally impressed with Stone Street. We went on a Saturday night and the street was completely empty. The restaurants seemed to have groups dining, but the street was very quiet and the area around it was pretty empty. It took us a minute to walk through and it is a very pretty street. If you're going to visit, I'd visit during the summer or when you know there's going to be an event. It was kind of a bummer to go all this way to an empty street and then turn around to find something else t do...

Yelp
Welcome to a true New York slice of history in the skyscraper canyons of Manhattan! Yes, it is now about some fun restaurants and bars but it's awesome to see an original street from 1660 right here in the most vibrant and modern city in the US! Did you know this city was originally called New Amsterdam? This street originally ran from Broad Street to Hanover Square. However, the massive Goldman Sachs building at 85 Broad Street plopped down in the middle of the road! Pop in to the lobby and you can see the cobblestone street right inside! This street was originally called Brewers Street, properly spelled as "Brouwer Straet" in 1660! In the 1700's, it was called Duke Street. The area burned in 1835 and was neglected for many decades transforming to a derelict back alley. Later, investment transformed it in to a vibrant, well concealed, local scene! . The Stone Street name came from the cobblestones used to pave it. This is the first paved street in Manhattan!

Yelp
Just go walking around. It's a beautiful blend of old and new. It's free to do and you're unlikely to find more than a handful of neighborhoods in the world that will be more lively and interesting.

Yelp
Love coming to this area especially in the summer! My favorite spot is mad dog and beans because of their food for happy hour. But overall this is probably the best spot to hang out if you're in Fidi.

Yelp
From all the pictures I've seen before, I thought this place would be bigger. They were a bit deceiving. It was nice. I would go back but maybe around the Fall season. And maybe with a few more people as well.

Yelp
I'm really not sure the historical significance of this street except that it's old. It's now lined with bars and restaurants that are quite lively pretty much all the time. In the summer the whole street is lined with patio tables which makes for a really fun experience. You can get a taste of whatever you like and a drink of whatever you like and hang out with a bunch of rambunctious wall street type people looking to have a good time.

Yelp
Discovered this place randomly while exploring downtown NYC. So awesome with so many great bars. Had to write a review so I remember where it is for my next visit.

Yelp
If you've been to Lower Manhattan, either visiting as a tourist, as a tri-state area resident or you're wandering aimlessly in this neighborhood, this is a MUST stop to visit Historic Stone Street btw Hanover St and Coenties Alley. Forget the history (although it is as amazing) of it being THE oldest cobblestoned street in NYC but the party never stops. With over 12 bars/restaurants all with outside tables and chairs on this permenently closed street, it's a blast, to say the least. In the summer it's always jam packed and lots of fun and during Oyster Fest in September, it's wall to wall, vertical body surfing, pardon my hand on your ass, thisclose, kind of packed. But still lots of fun.

Yelp
We had the seafood bake at Ulysses' Folk House and the hummus & guacamole with pita. Both were excellent!

Yelp
I love Stone Street. This is a great little historic cobblestone street (#stonestreet. Do you get it?) filled with outdoor tables for all the little restaurants on either side of the road. They still have outdoor seating once it gets cool out, and a lot of the restaurants put up little tents with heaters inside so you can still experience the outdoor ambiance. I give four stars instead of five because all of the meals I've had here (from multiple different restaurants on the street) have been...ok. Not bad, but nothing great. I've done the pizza place, and a couple of the pubs. Despite the food just being ok, I love taking visitors here because the scenery is amazing and it's a cool experience. Summary: Scenery/ambiance worth 5 stars, food worth 3 stars, 4 stars overall and you should try it!
