We didn't stay at the hotel, but did eat at the restaurant. It was a really great experience. We ate relatively early, so it wasn't very busy when we got there, and we were able to sit with a view of the ocean. What an amazing view. We chose to eat here because of their vegan options and they didn't disappoint. Pumpkin bread: delicious. Crab cakes: delicious. No-lob roll: delicious. I just wish we could have gone a second time to try more things. Thank you for having so many vegan options to choose from!!! Also, we had a couple of the mocktails and those were amazing as well. If you're looking for a plant-based / vegan option in Maine, don't pass on this place.

The rooms are extremely clean the staff are very friendly the restaurant and bar here is very good. Coffee machine and tea machine in the room work Great. We are definitely coming back the whole strip of york beach, it's very active, very alive. They have a grocery store right next to stones, throw. The people go on. It are awesome, very friendly people. And they have just about everything there. The whole community here on York beach, very friendly. I haven't given my whole experience ten stars

Google
Beautiful view! Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and offered a small refrigerator, coffee pot with everything needed to enjoy your morning coffee on the balcony watching the sunrise over the ocean. The restaurant was reasonably priced and the seafood fresh. Beaches are clean and easily accessible. Highly recommend

Google
Very convenient location on Long Sands with a comfortable bed with underbed drawers (space saver!), mini fridge, a/c, Keurig and electric kettle, with coffee and condiment offerings . Soaps and lotions to compliment the hot shower. Staff is very friendly and helpful (thank you Cameron!) as we were able to park and check in early.. Daily email updates of what's being offered by Stones Throw and their other facilities, with discounts for guests was very generous and informative. Communication is frequent and thoughtful. We will return.

Ambience on a sunny night beach front cannot be better than this. Was perfect night out and the outdoor dining was unbeatable. A bit crowded- everyone wants this view and dining. but a wonderful night out. Food was very good. Taste and texture was nothing less than perfect. Carrots we ordered because it was so different - grilled, sunflower seeds, bean puree. was nice appetizer to begin our meal. Combination of textures was good. We also ordered the buffalo shrimp. Cooked perfectly. sauces were so-so. I ordered sweet potato (vegetarian) tacos, and was superb for a lighter fare. would order again. texture and combination of sweet and sour from slaw .... just enough for a smile in my tummy. My companions ordered the fish and chips (which is shared with them). never seen fish and chips quite done like this and so well. Huge portion. enough to take home Beet salad was decent. Ginger beer is tap syrup, not bottled. not strong, also not as expensive. Parking is impossible, need to be dropped off.

We did not stay here but ate at the restaurant and WOW! Great vibe, fun menu, AMAZING food with generous portions. Loved how much was gluten free and interesting! A lot seems to be made from scratch and very fresh - it will not disappoint! Just get there early or be prepared to wait.

I did not stay there, but I ate dinner there with my family. The food was absolutely incredible. I have food allergies, and found the staff knowledgeable and the options to be exciting. The Brussels blew my mind- complex flavor, filling... a party in my mouth. The steak was also incredible. My family came with me and they all had wonderful meals. Highly recommend.

Google
What a perfect lunch! My wife and I drove to York Beach for our wedding anniversary and decided to try Stones Throw Hotel based on other reviews. This place knocked it out of the park! Our server Ruby was an absolute gem from start to finish. My wife ordered the burger and I chose the fried chicken sandwich - my sandwich was the best chicken sandwich I have ever eaten and let me tell you - I have eaten a lot of them! The cool "Maine potato puff" fries were unique and to die for. We will most certainly be back as soon as we can make it that way again.

Yelp
We were driving around on a beautiful day and thought we stop by. In the off season there is plenty of parking in the main strip. They offer inside and outside seating. Not huge but they seem to manage and the food was prepared quickly. It was Sunday brunch. Great options. Staff was friendly and the meal was great. Glad we stopped by. Might not be able to get back during the beach season but will return.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for lunch on a December Saturday afternoon. The two of us sat at the bar and were helped by the male bartender with the ravishing eyes (I'm sure he knows who he is - lol). My friend loves the supper rolls, so we started there and I got a cup of clam chowder. The portions were big and the chowder was a great flavor and consistency - not too thick or too runny. The drinks we ordered were also really good. I made the mistake of getting a regular espresso martini and my friend got the special one with the horchata. I tasted hers and immediately hated myself because it was so good! I had a really well made rye manhattan afterwards - that guy can mix a great drink! And, the cocktail glasses were so classy! 1 star was removed because I ordered the mussels as my entrée and they came out when I was barely halfway into my soup. That is a big pet peeve of mine as I like to finish my appetizer, sit for a few minutes, and then go to the main course. I don't love it when the main is sitting there getting cold as I'm trying to finish my first course. For that reason, I sent them back. They looked great, so I would really like to go back at some point and try them. The restaurant was really good overall, so I definitely want to come back.

Yelp
First time im Maine and I was treated well! We stopped at Long Sands Beach on a beautiful day and saw a restaurant across the street from the beach and it looked great and decided to stop there. We were seated quickly. The restrooms were very clean (gender neutral) and they had high chairs for the kiddos. We shared a lot of food. We had oysters (excellent), fish cakes, a lobster roll, mussels, shrimp and scallops. That lobster roll was spectacular. If I'm ever in that region of the country again I'll definitely stop by! Price: $160

Yelp
Absolutely perfect location and setup. Room was adequate size and cleanliness. "Private" Balcony (adjoined by a half wall to the neighbors) looks across Long Beach Avenue at Long Sands Beach. There is a small restaurant downstairs with good food and drinks. Parking was great. I don't recommend bringing kids.

Yelp
We have gone to Stones Throw since 2022 on our honeymoon. Last year we decided last minute to go up a day early and stayed at a different place for 1 night because Stones Throw was sold out. It was a nice place but nothing like Stones Throw. We arrived early (around 11-after check out time) and called to ask if we could park before our room was ready. They said yes. Check in was very easy as was parking. We love sitting on the balcony looking at the ocean. We love the clear glass instead of a wooden like at the other place. The owner Joe is very nice. Last year the village lost power and Joe offered to move us to the Nevada for the inconvenience. We decided to stay because it didn't bother us. But we appreciated that they offered to move us. The manager was also checking in on the guests, making sure we knew where the lantern was and making sure we had everything we needed. The bathroom and shower are very clean and they offer high quality soaps to use. The bed is so comfy as are the pillows. The coffee station in the room is great. High end electric kettle and good coffees. They spare no expense on the rooms. The staff at both the hotel and restaurant are very friendly. Efficient fridge/freezer. If you stay, don't forget to try the restaurant. You won't be sorry. We will come every year! It's the best place to stay on Long Sands!

Yelp
Easily one of the best experiences I've had. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful. The room and bathroom were clean, bed was comfortable, view was amazing. I was worried that the music/restaurant noise would be echoing into my room all day but I had the first room off the stairs and didnt hear a thing. Pros: location is everything and theres no better spot than here. Quick 1 mile walk to short sands - general store right next door for all your breakfast, lunch, and beach snack needs. Restaurant on the main floor for an easy access meal/drink. Cons: Super minor things - the shower head in my room was coming off the wall and the tub was a bit chipped. Minor cosmetic things that can always be touched up. The weirdest thing I encountered was around 1:30am my bed suddenly started shaking.. while I'd like to give the couple next door to me credit if credit is due, it felt more like if a washing machine/dryer was on a high setting. It last about 30 minutes then stopped but unsure of what was going on there. I look forward to returning next year! I had a fantastic time

Yelp
I wanted to like staying here. We've stayed here in the past and honestly it's not worth it. We've been in the building over the restaurant both times we've stayed. First the stairs up to these rooms are narrow and steep. It's rough to get up them even without luggage. Next the bathroom is small with the toilet paper dispenser inside a cabinet. The shower head is small and high pressure to compensate for the small size. The tub drain is always slow. Then there's the thin walls and floors. You can hear the neighbours both next to you and above you. And don't forget the added sound and music from the restaurant downstairs! This 2nd time we stayed we were also given the wrong room keys and had to go back to the desk. The last straw was being accosted in the parking area by another guest about "assigned" parking spaces. Which then turned into being accosted about parking by one the hotel staff, who never even identified themselves. She immediately had an attitude when she approached us, didn't know who we were despite having the room/parking list right in front of her with our plate number, and even after looking us up she didn't know how long we were booked to stay. We were never told anything about assigned parking by the check-in desk either of the times we stayed. It wasn't until after a couple days into our 2nd stay that our parking was suddenly an issue. It was always just small cars park in the covered spots. For how much we are paying to stay in one of the ocean front balcony rooms the least they could do is "assign" us one of the covered parking spots. The most annoying part is they give you parking hang tags for your car, why don't they just write the room parking spot on the tag? Update: to be clear they did write our room number on the parking hang tag. I would prefer if the parking spot letter had been written instead.

Yelp
EXCELLENT. Desk staff were awesome. Room was clean. Comfortable. Eco friendly. Balcony was nice and had just enough space. Close to the ocean. Amazing. The best hotel I have every stayed in.

Yelp
What an incredible place to enjoy lunch overlooking the beach! Delicious drinks, very attentive and relaxed staff and the food was delicious. Chowder was incredible!

Yelp
Everything about this place is worth all 5 stars and more!! The food is absolutely delicious, with a wonderful variety to suit the whole party. The service is the perfect result from what is clearly a great work environment for the happy staff that treats you like honored guests. The view and location are gorgeous!! We can't wait to go back and try more of the menu! Thank you to the wonderful staff at Stone's Throw for the great dinner and experience our family had last night.

Yelp
I am so glad I found this gem to stay at for my first visit to Maine. The staff was amazingly helpful and courteous. The food was fantastic. The drinks mixed by Matt & Lee were spot-on. Emily took care of my food and made me feel welcome, making sure everything was just right. Joe took time out of his busy friday night managerial duties of a full restaurant/bar to immediately attend to an issue I had with the tv in my room. The bed was very comfortable, the shower had plenty of hot water, and the breeze drifting in from the ocean was supremely relaxing. This is an ideal location; literally across the street from the ocean, I had the perfect vacation there.

Yelp
Not kid friendly. We are local to York, and love to support local businesses all year round. We went with my 2 year old, and were told there was a wait for 2 and a high chair. We did not mind waiting, and just waited out on the sidewalk. Before we were seated, 3 other parties with 2-4 people were seated before us, and they all arrived 10-15 minutes after we had put our name in. We were finally called for our table. When we arrived at the table there were 3 adult chairs and we were told they didn't have any high chairs. We explained that we clearly needed one when we checked in. The head hostess came to our table and rudely addressed my mother and I and explained that they only had 2 high chairs and they were both being used. I am not sure why this wasn't explained when we put our name in. We then decided to leave as it is impossible to have a nice dinner with a toddler on your lap, and my mom was meet by the owner. He said, "What do you want me to do? Kick people out of their seats? Needless to say this was the most inappropriate way to handle the situation, never mind being an owner. Either be upfront with your clients and explain that you don't have high chairs when people put their name in so they don't end up waiting on the sidewalk for 30 mins with a toddler, or provide more than 2 high chairs for an establishment that is 30+ tables that is located on a family beach where families vacation all summer long! You never know who you are speaking with, and unfortunately we as locals were extremely let down by the terrible service this establishment provided us!

Yelp
Excellent room. Very comfortable and clean. Eco friendly in a great way. There are a lot of wonderful (going the extra mile) things. I travel and stay in hotel more than the average person, so sadly, I'm not easily impressed by the room anymore. However, this room is very impressive. Beautiful ocean view. Beautifully decorated. Comfortable bed. This is a Wonderful family owned business and I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Haven't been to York in years. It was as beautiful as I remembered it. I booked a room for Friday and Saturday night, but loved it so much we stayed an extra night. The room was really clean and cozy. The views were beautiful. We were fortunate enough to have an amazing weather and we're able to sit on the deck and have coffee while watching the sunrise. At night, it was warm enough to eat and drink wine on the deck and then walk across to sit on the beautiful beach across the street. There is a restaurant downstairs and it was really busy. It was really nice. Chairs around little firepits and all around nice atmosphere. It closes early too, so it was completely quite by 930 latest. Working with the people from the hotel were amazing too. They were nice and helpful from the booking, to saying goodbye. It really was a great weekend all around.....another topping to the weekend was how nice people are in Maine!! Can't wait to get back!!! Thanks Stones Throw!!!

Jen M.

Yelp
The room at Stone's Throw was clean but smaller than our bedroom closet! There wasn't very much room to hang clothes, there were drawers underneath the bed, but it was easier to leave our clothes in our luggage. The ceilings are so thin that we can hear everything that happens in the room above us, including them stomping around and dropping every heavy item in their room on the floor at 1 am.......we've tried sitting outside in the morning to have our coffee, but all we can smell is the garbage that is overflowing out of the dumpsters in the parking lot across from the rooms. We repeatedly have to ask for clean towels for our room, the evening staff promises to deliver them to our room, but i end up having to find someone that works here everyday to grab some myself every morning. The proximity to the beach is perfect, but I definitely won't stay here again......it's definitely NOT worth the money!!

Yelp
10 out of 10 recommend! My husband and I stopped here to grab dinner one night and we were beyond blown away. We sat at the bar and got to know the friendly waitstaff who were so sweet. It was also great to see the owner pop in and out to check on things. That is the sign of a good business. And the food was AMAZING! Peanut Thai wings, scallops and fish tacos are a must have! I think we will make more frequent stops on our travels up to Maine in the future.

Dev R.

Yelp
Highly recommend this hotel! It is very modern, feels like home as soon as you walk into the room. The rooms, and bathrooms are spotless clean. I greatly appreciate how eco friendly is it here; although if you are a coffee addict like me you may have to ask for more coffee restock a few times. Instantly I noticed the shower products and even coffee company. It's great the hotel cares to use good (assuming local) products. I haven't been the restaurant yet, but after the stay so far I'm assuming it's amazing. It's a wonderful place to stay, you can tell they care about this place. Can't wait to comeback!

Yelp
We love it here! My husband and I have been coming to Stones Throw since it opened. We no longer live in the area but made it a point to stop by this weekend for Brunch. It was amazing! My husband got the shakshuka and I got the AM Tater. Both were delicious. My mother-in-law and I got mimosas. Both the Mango and Blueberry were delicious. My only complaint is going to be parking. During tourist season it gets pretty busy. Harder to park than it is to get a seat! They also don't take reservations so big parties may be difficult. Also- little to no phone service here but they have WiFi. Ask for the password if you can't make it without!

Nemo P.

Yelp
Perfect little hotel. Rooms are new, clean and bright, simply but very nicely furnished. Staff very friendly and competent. Great view of beach only about fifteen yards from our balcony. Great restaurant. Chef is sensational; servers are too. Mine made me a custom blueberry soda. Try the "TV Dinner." Surprised to find such top-drawer features and performance in a small Maine beach hotel, but there it is, and long may it prosper.

E K.

Yelp
Fast service, delicious food, great selection. Great fish and chips! Flaky haddock. Mmmm good! All this with a view of the Gulf of Maine!!

Yelp
This was our first stay in York Maine. We arrived after the office closed. Kudos to the friendly staff who called to ahead letting us know they were closing early, giving us information on where to park and check in. The location was fantastic, room clean and cozy. The location even has two Tesla chargers in the parking space below the hotel. Great experience highly recommended .

Daniel T.

Yelp
Best atmosphere in York hands-down! Food is great, drinks are delicious and wait staff is friendly! Prices are also very reasonable!

Yelp
I stayed at Stone's Throw last week for a few days on a solo trip. It was perfect. When I booked the hotel, I did not realize how close the beach actually is- literally steps! I could hear the waves from my room. I loved that! It was also great for easy on/off access, especially if you may have forgotten something or wanted to get something to eat. You are allowed one parking space(Some are located underneath the building. I was driving a small SUV, so I didn't even try to fit under there). The hotel itself is very simple, but has charm. I stayed in a room where the office building is(I wish I splurged for an ocean front room because I was jealous of those people! Next time!) It was very nice- I liked the sea/nautical theme. There was a TV, refrigerator, keurig machine, ice bucket, and a window AC unit(You will need this. My room got hot during the night and the window only opens 1/4 of the way). I was kind of sad that there wasn't a microwave. They have slabs of tall wood pieces for night stands, which is a nice decoration, but does not fit much. I could just fit my glasses, water bottle, and phone on there. The beds are memory foam and super comfortable. I would recommend staying on the second floor. I could hear every movement above me(the AC helped drown them out). There were also chairs outside each room and a patio on each floor in front of the building. It was really beautiful to sit and watch the sun go down. My only real complaints are that: 1)Staff leaves around 8PM and no one is on duty again until around 9 or 10AM. That made me feel a little uneasy. There is an emergency contact number posted at the office if needed. I guess that provides a little comfort. 2)Also, there aren't any phones in the rooms. I know we live a smart phone age, but for someone who was traveling solo, it would have been nice to have a backup in case my phone failed me. 3)The connected restaurant was on a fall schedule! I wish it stated that somewhere. I was really looking forward to trying it. They were opening for dinner on my last day. I left that morning. :( All in all, I really enjoyed my stay and would love to return. York Beach is a beautiful place and I am glad to have discovered it.

Yelp
Great location, comfortable accommodations, and friendly and helpful staff made it a great weekend experience. Highly recommend if you're looking for a modern motel, on the beach at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Went up to York Maine for a wedding. We had plenty of places to choose from, we lucked out by staying at The Stones Throw! It was bright, cheery, clean and the best view on the east coast! The ocean is literally across the street! The restaurant down stairs was a lot of fun, very Cheerful, clean and a menu for every one. We truly lucked out by choosing The Stones Throw!

Yelp
I have just had one of my favorite meals ever! This restaurant right on the beach has fabulous food and a casual, friendly vibe. The bread is amazing. Food- fantastic. I had the picked lobster, which means they did all the the work getting it out of the shell. Did I mention the bread? This place has mastered the line of hip, but not intimidating. And it's spotless. My server Lee was a delight. Don't miss this gem right on the water.

Gage C.

Yelp
I was extremely disappointed in my food. I ordered the fish sandwich online to go pickup on my lunch break and the online ordering website said to pay attention to the pickup time so I planned accordingly. My food ended up being done more than 20 minutes before the earliest it was supposed to be done. Even after the short drive there and back my food was barely even warm and everything was soggy. I ended up throwing most of it out. Waste of money

Cody G.

Yelp
Great location! Stayed at this boutique hotel over this past weekend for a wedding. Room was very clean, but lacked an ironing board and iron. Had to go to the concierge for that request, but they had those supplies in stock to use. One issue we encountered was the lack of anybody at the front desk/concierge room after 9 PM. We had misplaced our room key and there was no way of gaining entrance to the room once we were locked out. The number to call for assistance went straight to voicemail, and then it said to call 911 if there were any other issues. The front concierge would not be back in until 9 AM. Needless to say we were locked outside of our room at midnight for a few hours until we were able to find the key to gain entry. I think there should definitely be an alternate option to contact someone other than 911 if someone misplaces a key or had any other issues.

Linda D.

Yelp
Just spent three fantastic days at Stones Throw and I couldn't say enough. Stayed in Room 7 (top floor-Oceanview) - prices are reasonable, walk across street to beach, first floor outdoor/indoor dining lunch/dinner, many rooms to chose from, best of all - the service from greeting, restaurant staff, and housekeeping - smiles and pleasantries!

Daniel I.

Yelp
Close to a 5 star stay, but had to deduct for a few minor things. We got there about an our before checkin, but the staff treated us right away and checked us in early without hesitation. The girl at the desk all night was fantastic. I am a large hotel manager, she has the hospitality in her, wish I could remember her name. Hit the restaurant next door for apps And drinks before hitting the beach. The 3 hour drive had us hungry and the food did not disappoint. My wife thought the chowder was one of the best she's ever had. I fell in love with the Maine fries, which are fresh cut potatoe fries, but they are dusted with something, maybe cornstarch. They are fantastic. Also had the buffalo shrimp app, which we swore had to be a pre breaded, frozen product due to the consistency of how perfectly they were breaded - no clumps, perfectly uniform. We had a front Row table and that was the Perfect touch. Back to the hotel before the beach and got a two for one chair rental from office - another small touch that stood out. Room was clean and stocked. Only negative in room was I had to pull out the filter on the AC and clean it so it would work better - it was clogged pretty bad. Very much enjoyed the roadside patio and being directly across from beach. We will definitely be back!,,

K J.

Yelp
Another great gathering at the Stones Throw. We went to have some lighter fare and were not disappointed in anything we ordered. We were especially happy with the Zucchini Carpaccio and the shrimp Po' boy sliders. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Drinks refreshing--tried the Summer Sangria and Breakwater. Great way to end an afternoon at York Beach.

J S.

Yelp
We stayed for my birthday and had a wonderful time. We were surprised by a few things, like the noise from the bar restaurant at night and the Ikea furniture throughout the room. And then the heat and the hot water stopped working. But the owner and the staff offered compensation. They accommodated us with our choice beverages and we were pleasantly surprised as we were checking out. The manager gave us a genuine apology and explanation. And then proceed to reduce our room charges with a discount. The staff and his hospitality saved this challenging situation. I hope this new hotel continues to work out the kinks and prosper in the future.
