We really enjoyed this restaurant! I kicked myself for not trying one of the specials, but everything we had was good. We loved our waitress (I think her name was Clarice). She was super sweet and attentive. The mixed drink I tried was also very good!

Jaime

Google
We are visiting from FL and came to Stonewalls for a family dinner! We started with some calamari and spinach artichoke dip, both were delicious! I had the aged ribeye and it was cooked to perfection! Our server, Raegan, was amazing! She was very friendly and attentive. After dinner we finished with some of the cinnamon roll bread pudding and crème brûlée. We will definitely come back when we are in the area.

Chris Prince

Google
Our waiter Josh was amazing. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and other things. The food was amazing. I had the Emperor Cut Prime Rib and the twice baked potato and my wife had the Filet Mignon with a baked potato. The Mississippi Mud Pie was delectable and the bartender was excellent. We also tried escargot for the first time and it was absolutely delicious. The salad bar was also worth the $8.

Google
A great choice if you’re looking for a memorable dining experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I started with escargot and French onion soup, both of which were delicious. Then I had the NY Strip with an all-the-way baked potato, and it didn’t disappoint—perfectly cooked steak, and the potato was loaded just right. For dessert, the mud pie was the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Be sure to make a reservation, as this spot gets busy, but it’s definitely worth it. The service was attentive, and the overall experience was top-notch. If you’re in the area and craving a great steak, this is definitely the place to go.

Google
We celebrated our 40 wedding anniversary here. We had GREAT attentive service with Clarice, and yummy food. The crème brule was outstanding. Make sure to save room for dessert.

Google
Our table was ready when we walked in. The service was good. Our server was very nice and helpful since it was our first time being there. The salad bar was amazing! By far the best salad bar we’ve ever had. We both got steaks and garlic mashed potatoes and the food was delicious! The steaks were cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. We were very happy with the food and service and will definitely be back when we come back to Banner Elk.

Google
We were headed to a different restaurant when we spotted this place. Went in with no reservation and they were very quick to let us dine. Our waiter Josh was awesome and eager to answer any questions we had.The food was incredible. The fried deviled eggs are out of this world good!!

Clinton Kurtz

Google
The best food we had in Banner Elk. The setting is a little old, but it is cozy. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was excellent. The drinks were good and they have a great bourbon selection. The deviled eggs were incredible. The chef is allegedly known for his deserts so save some room

Yelp
Fantastic! We loved everything! I have food allergies, and not the typical ones, so I called ahead of booking our table. The hostess who answered the phone went above and beyond to check with the chefs in the kitchen for me. There was a very small list of things that I wasnt able to have and she let me know about them BEFORE we even booked our anniversary dinner. When we arrived the same hostess greeted us and immediately told me that she was the one who had spoke with me on the phone a few days ago. She then led us to our table, let us know who our server was and that she was aware, and the kitchen was aware, of my allergies. When our server met us at the table she immediately confirmed my allergies with me and let us know about the specials, to which there was a lengthy list, and made sure to let me know what was safe for me to have. My husband ordered the fried deviled eggs, and they let me know about a cross contamination between my allergens and the frying oil for the eggs. I was able to have a couple bites, enough to know that 1) they were delicious and 2) not to push it for my allergy. I had the lobster bisque, it was very good. My husband had the ribeye with blue cheese butter, sauté onions and mushrooms (all up grades, but so reasonable) and their stuffed baked potato (the best twice baked potato you have ever had, but again a very reasonable upgraded side). I had the chicken oscar. My husband's steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and my chicken was cooked completely through AND still juicy. It goes to show that in a proper chef's hands, a steak can be a perfect temperature and chicken doesn't have to be dry. We each had a creme brule for dessert and it was delicious. We were completely stuffed when we left and it was the best meal we'd had in years. The meal was extremely reasonably priced and the portions were large. We've spent more at a chain restaurant for much lesser quality food. Our meal was $130, before tip. We had 2 appetizers, 2 main course meals and desserts. That is extremely reasonable for all of that. The server was fantastic, the ambiance was very nice, the host was exceptional and the food was out of this world. If you come to the area this is a must eat spot, but make a reservation! We're local-ish, definitely close to come back again, and we will! Stonewalls, thank you for an extraordinary night. You made it a very memorable anniversary for us.

Yelp
We recently ordered takeout from Stonewalls and it was amazing! After a day of exploring the Banner Elk area we were unsure of where to eat so we checked Yelp for reviews. I also had recommendations from our Airbnb host to eat here but was hesitant because of the live music. Often it's too loud for me but this was not the case here. It looked like a simple one man setup with no super loud equipment. We decided to check out the menu in person and to see if there were any specials not listed online, and I'm so glad we did. We walked in, were given menus and directed to the bar to order. The bartender Colton was extremely attentive and rattled off numerous specials with ease, making a recommendation when I had questions. Once home, the food was amazing and we ate every bit. From bread to dessert (delicious key lime pie and crème brûlée), everything was perfect. We will 1000% eat here when we're back in town!

Yelp
We arrived shortly after they opened, had a reservation and had a great table in a smaller section of the restaurant. The ambiance was calming and comfortable with a modern decor. Our server was very personable and fun. She was attentive at the right time, giving us ample time to feel relaxed and able to enjoy our cocktails and appetizer of amazing fried deviled eggs. All of our entrees were delicious except for the lobster bisque. No chunks of lobster, all creamy texture with a beer cheese soup flavor. :(

Yelp
The restaurant is nicely decorated and was clean. We ordered the hoisin salmon with brussel sprouts and the rib eye with a baked potato. The salmon was cold and had way too much hoisin sauce which was brushed on right before serving it. The maple brussel sprouts were way too sweet with maple syrup just poured on them and they were not cooked well. The rib eye was over cooked and very fatty. The baked potato was good. The one saving grace for the food was the salad bar. It was stocked with lots of good ingredients for a fabulous salad. The service was OK.

Yelp
Made a reservation and dropped by on our ski trip. The setting is beautiful and elegant while remaining true to its rustic surroundings. There is a full bar and while we didn't order drinks the wine and beer menu looked robust. The service was outstanding and the food was awesome! We had the pistachio crusted trout and the marbled ribeye. Both were phenomenal, as was the salad bar. Definitely a must stop when in the area!

Yelp
Our dinner reservation with Stone Walls was amazing. A great surprise for my birthday with wonderful food. Service was amazing and food experience will be remembered. We will be recommending this location to all friends and family who plan to visit no doubt. An item that was not pictured is the pistachio crusted trout our friend had and he raved about it! I plan to get that next time! Thank you for an awesome experience, we will be back!

Yelp
Food and service always good. One of my go to's for the area. Try it, you will like it but be sure to make a reservation.

Yelp
We loved our dinner at Stonewalls. The decor is lovely without being stuffy. We enjoyed the variety of the salad bar but there are also other salad options on the menu. We had a variety of menu items including escargot, prime rib, pasta and halibut. All were perfectly prepared. The mushroom fettuccini was especially flavorful. Save room for the house made desserts! You won't regret it. Definitely make a reservation during busy seasons.
google avatar

Yelp
Josh provided excellent service last night and the prime rib was delicious. I also enjoyed the salad bar. We'll be back!

Yelp
Walking in is dream like in a mountain town. Outdoor fireplace lit with lightly dusted snow from the night before. Appears the outside area is dog friendly but no heating lamps (I didn't ask, just saying what it didn't appear to have) and it was 25 degrees outside. Immediately greeted by 3 people at 5:30 on a Wednesday. I asked to be seated at the bar since I was singular but they had that closed for seating for the Annual Chamber dinner. They did inform me it would get a bit loud around 6, which was kind. Sat towards the stairs area, which was quaint and only sat a few tables. Doesn't have a partition for noise but they do have a curtain. With that room full of people next to where I was sitting is noisy if you're wanting a romantic dinner, but solo I love the gossip. Haha. The waitress (Reagan) was so kind. She filled me in on the specials and I chose the halibut. But started with the bread and escargot. Bread and butter, how do you really go wrong, but the escargot with pastry on top tasted like dirt. Now hear me out, I eat a lot of escargot and I realize they live and eat most things like dirt. But out of all the times I've had it, it's never tasted like actual dirt. I pushed it aside and told my waitress to keep it on my bill, but I didn't finish it. She kindly took it off anyhow. For an entree I ordered the special halibut and creamed spinach. Both DELICIOUS. The fish was cooked perfectly and the seasoning was perfectly complimented. The creamed spinach is my type of salt level, but if you're sensitive to salt, it's apparent. Ordered the Mississippi Mud Pie for dessert. I'm not a huge sweet eater but I love a good bite or two. Worth ordering and taking to go if you're nearby. Ice cream in the middle.

Yelp
This was the first time at this restaurant and decided to check it out for our anniversary dinner but it will probably be the last Service was great, ambiance was nice but the Food was mediocre at best. The best thing about our meal was the appetizers the escargot was delicious and the deviled eggs were delicious but the main entrees lacked seasoning and flavor. My wife got the prime rib and it was super tender but no flavor and I got the teriyaki chicken and it was just bland with no seasoning and it was served with the sauce on the side. If the pricing was less I would expect less but to be raved on as a more upscale establishment i expected Wow but was let down.

Krysten L.

Yelp
Grace was incredible. She was on top of the specials and spoke clearly and intentionally to what she recommended. Her friendly service and knowledge of everything made our experience incredible. On top of Grace being great, the food was lovely. Got the filet and it was everything I could have wanted in a steak. Outdoor patio was beautiful in the evening also. Would recommend!

Scott A T.

Yelp
The food was excellent, the deviled eggs are amazing. The rest of the menu looked great if it's anything like the fish though it is $$$. Reagan our waitress was wonderful, made sure we had everything we needed. I was also impressed how she knew without hesitation all the specials and specifics. Amazing service. The restaurant was very nice casual but would also be a place for a special night or gathering. The atmosphere is quiet but also has the atmosphere of gathering with friends. If in the Banner Elk area a must visit.

Yelp
Great service. Grace gave outstanding service. The steaks were great. It was our first visit and we will be back!

Tim R.

Yelp
Been going here for years and loved it. This last time we were very disappointed. The ribeye I had and the filets the wife and friends had were all tasteless and tough. Maybe they started serving non-aged beef due to the cost. But for the first time in 15-18 years we were all extremely disappointed.

Michael C.

Yelp
Delicious old school dining with a modern twist! Everyone is attentive, friendly, and makes sure that your meal is perfect. The food is great and both the dining room and patio are wonderful experiences.

Yelp
Stonewalls is an amazing gem in Banner Elk! Their food is delicious, the service is amazing and the price is reasonable for the quality of the food. We make it a habit to eat there every time we visit the area!

Yelp
This place was awesome, right off the mountain from the resort/cabins so it's an easy drive to and from. Great atmosphere as soon as you walk up, they had a nice fire pit going that night. My party were originally sat at a tight table but when a larger round table opened up our server offered to move us which was very nice and he definitely didn't have to, it made for such a more enjoyable time. The food was spectacular from start to finish not to mentioned the drinks were top notch. First time ever having escargot and I have to say y'all might've set the bar a little too high, the butter sauce and puff pastry on top really made this my favorite new experience! Seas scallops and butternut squash risotto are simply two things I can't pass up and boy am I glad I didn't. Melt in your mouth scallops and the creamy risotto was a perfect pair. My buddy got the NY Strip and stated it was one of the best he's had in a long time. I can't recommend this place enough for a cozy, sophisticated yet inviting dinner.

Jaime S.

Yelp
We are visiting from FL and came to Stonewalls for a family dinner! We started with some calamari and spinach artichoke dip, both were delicious! I had the aged ribeye and it was cooked to perfection! Our server, Raegan, was amazing! She was very friendly and attentive. After dinner we finished with some of the cinnamon roll bread pudding and crème brûlée. We will definitely come back when we are in the area.

Yelp
Was in town for a bachelorette party, and decided to have our final dinner here. We were not disappointed! It was easy to make a reservation online. We had the French onion soup, which was delicious, and each one of us ordered a separate type of steak, all with great flavor. Only possible downside is one of the steaks came out room temperature and not hot but the restaurant quickly corrected it and took it back to the kitchen.

Ryan K.

Yelp
This place has amazing food! Our server, Hope, was awesome! So attentive and friendly. And it's lovely just being there. Such a pretty restauran. I highly recommended it!

Yelp
Superb service, both gracious and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and the food are noteworthy. The salad bar had a variety of fresh vegetables and they were delicous. The ribeye and the bake potato were excellent. The charbroiled steak was perfectly cooked by request. I unwaveringly recommend this resteraunt.

Yelp
Stonewall Highly rated and recommended we stopped into this nice restaurant found on yelp with high ratings. We started with there fresh bread, warm to the table. We did not have reservations and they were completely booked for days. They have an outdoor patio with a fire pit going and music inside tonight at the bar. We were told a 2 hour wait so we sat outside as the bar was not an option as they reserve the spots in the bar. Completely booked, we were given a table on the outdoor covered and closed patio with heaters. It was quite comfortable and sad we could not hear the music. If they had a little piped in music it would have been better. However our server Brenna made up for the lack of music. Funny and informative, we went with The  Onion soup, perfectly made at the perfect temperature. Delicious, and hearty! Then I went with the Salad bar over 50 items to choose from and it was enough to fill me up. We also had The Ribeye steak with I had a piece of and the Special of the day, Pistachio crusted trout. Oh so delicious! We followed with the home made cinnamon roll bread pudding.  Which was flavorful but a little to stiff for my liking. It had a Bourbon sauce which could have used more for my liking. All in all the meal was terrific, wonderful atmosphere and great service!
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Dinner with my forever Valentine! Salad bar tonight and always fresh and so many options.

Jan J.

Yelp
Service was so disappointing. Our waters were never filled, our soup arrived cold (lobster bisque), our shrimp cocktail never arrived until after we reminded the server. Once reminded, she spent the next 5 minutes conversing with the next table before retrieving it. It was so late that we told her we no longer wanted it as we had finished our meal, but she finally brought it and still charged us for it. An unfortunate experience.

David M.

Yelp
The food, service, and ambiance are wonderful. The fried deviled eggs and Prime Rib were excellent. We will definitely be returning on our next visit to North Carolina.
google avatar

Yelp
The welcoming chairs and firepit set the tone for a great experience. I enjoyed our girls night dinner with a cute mocktail and yummy food. Our server was knowledgeable about the food and ingredients to help navigate food allergies. The baked potatoes were a big hit! And the specials -- scallops were delicious! Creme brûlée was Yummy!!

Yelp
We are in town house/pet sitting for a week. Picked Stonewalls for supper. First, the staff is really what makes this place a gem! Definitely order the Lobster Bisque. It is hot, creamy, and filled with delightful chunks of lobster. And, it comes in a bowl-not a dumb little cup that just revs up your taste buds without enough to bed them back down! Second, IF you order the burger, ask for some seasoning. I have ate burgers all over the world and that was the most bland burger ever. Absolutely no flavor! Asked for BBQ sauce to be able to eat it. Giving it three stars for the positive things-people & lobster!

Chris W.

Yelp
Our family has been eating at Stonewalls since the 1990s. The steaks and crabcakes along with the salad bar are delicious and consistently outstanding. It is a bit pricey but if you want an upscale meal when visiting Banner Elk/Beech Mountain, Stonewalls is a must. I typically get the filet or Maryland style crabcakes but many of the items on the menu are outstanding. Stonewalls is a fine-dining option when in the High Country where you get good food and friendly, professional service from the staff and management. It is a much better choice than the poor fare offered at other places, like Holy Smokes/White Wolf Lodge up on Beech Mountain where the sad and overpriced food (BBQ/Sandwiches), fudge, clothes, and ski rentals are sketchy and the managers such as Mike are unprofessional, rude, and berate customers, even teenage children over the phone. Trisha at WWLodge actually makes up phony reviews on Yelp to trick customers so how can you trust food and service. Instead, the best choice in Banner Elk for upscale food and a reliable meal is Stonewalls. I recommend Stonewalls for a delicious, upscale, meal when in the Banner Elk/Beech Mountain area.
google avatar

Michele H.

Yelp
For an appetizer we started the evening off with the Deep Fried Deviled Eggs, strange sounding but delicious! For main entree I had the evening special of pan seared scallops (seared to perfection), on a bed of sticky rice with a crab mango salsa- so scrumptious! Dessert was a molten lava cake a la mode- nothing better than warm chocolate with vanilla ice cream melting into it! Our server was so funny and sweet and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Stone Walls is always a must dine when in the mountains of NC. Love the decor and the black and white photos of the mountains are stunning, reminiscent of Ansel Adam's artwork in the western US.

Yelp
Boyfriend and I are here visiting for a few days. The first day we were here we saw a billboard in Banner Elk for Stonewalls. We knew we had to try it out so we made reservations. We went on 10/30/2023, it was a beautiful place inside and out. We both had our hearts set on the prime rib. It did not disappoint. We both asked for medium and it came out perfect. I had sweet potatoes and he has garlic mashed potatoes-both we delicious. My only disappointment and why I gave 4 stars is everyone else around us got bread, but we never got any :( We also had the bread pudding and it was also very good. Will definitely come back if we are in the area again.

Yelp
We appreciated everything about Stonewalls. Great service, great food. We hope all is going well with this amazing restaurant and town.

Yelp
Stonewalls is an ok place for dinner, but pricey for the quality you get. I'm rating Stonewalls with a 3-star; food and quality of ambiance (including worn furniture) is a 2-star, dessert is a 4-star. To quote a previous review, Stonewalls is "perfectly mediocre" and add underwhelming to expectations. The ambiance is ok, but not great for a nicer scale restaurant providing a higher quality of menu items. The decor is outdated with chairs and booth seats with worn out cushion and support structure. Our table was a bit beaten up for the ambiance that they are going for. The table was sticky and we ended up cleaning it again ourselves with hand sanitizer with paper towels. The quality of food was ok and my guess is the meat was select and not even choice cuts; none of the meats seemed to be prime. All of our entrees were not cooked to order and two of our steaks (ribeye and prime rib) had to go back as undercooked and at room temperature at best. Both came back to our table in less than a minute and half (literally) warmed up. Not sure if they're using a microwave or what. The ribeye turned out ok. The prime rib was disappointing. Poor quality cut, delivered cool, then brought back warm but still not cooked correct. The redeeming event for our table was dessert. All of them were very good (4 star desserts). Service quality was sporadic. Initial customer service from hostess station and wait staff was good. Thereafter, it dropped. Wait staff was overwhelmed by number of tables they have to serve while other staff was standing around. Overall, experience was disappointing. The ambiance is worn, food quality is mediocre and the prices are high for what you get. There are other restaurants in town I'd try before coming back to Stonewalls. If I do come back, I won't order the prime rib, because it's far from being true prime rib. Perhaps this is a good place for coffee and desserts in the afternoon.

cindy ..

Yelp
Let's start off with the escargot that made no mention on the menu description of having mushrooms in it, the ribeye being so tasteless I had to put salt and pepper on it, same with the filet only blue cheese butter gave it some flavor. The mashed sweet potatoes were "stone" cold and the waiter never came back after the food was delivered to report any of these issues to let alone ask how our meal was when delivering the bill. I truly have no qualms paying over a hundred dollars for a two party meal when there's value and flavor in it. I will never return to this restaurant when we visit every year. Very disappointing, very.
google avatar

Rossana C.

Yelp
This place does not disappoint. We've visited an elk a few times now and every time we make sure to get reservations here be sure to book well in advance the food is incredible and the service is by far consistent and considerate and friendly everything you want in a restaurant. It's family friendly, although if, I was going with just my spouse. I think I would have a great time as well.
google avatar

Brent C.

Yelp
Great food the calamari was some of the best I've ever had, great service, polite waitstaff and very welcoming environment. I will definitely recommend Stonewalls to any of my friends and/or family and I will be back on my next trip to the area.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
High end restaurant and food in the heart of banner elk. The steaks are a must. Especially the aged beef. Service was perfect. The onion soup was delicious. A must have. Priced right for the amazing food you get.
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
Had the best Valentine's Day dinner after skiing beech mountain. Our group was pretty loud but our server was really kind and patient. The ambiance is very romantic and this is definitely the spot to visit on vacation

Skyler B.

Yelp
I understand overcooking a steak but if ya ask for medium well and it comes out blue rare you couldn't pour water out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Had reservations for 6:30. Both parties showed up early 5:40 so we checked to see if we could get seated early. Absolutely no problem. Service was quick, food was excellent and waitress was on too of all our needs. Will be coming back next year when for out mountain trips. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Brandon F.

Yelp
The food was absolutely incredible. The NY Strip was the BEST steak I've ever had. The restaurant was nice and cozy inside. Above everything, we were blown away by the service. The front of house staff were extremely kind and our server, Amy, was so knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. We were ready for her to sit down and eat with us. This became one of my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time. Highly recommend and we can't wait for the next visit!

Abby M.

Yelp
If you're out in Banner Elk you NEED to visit Stonewalls. Everything from the atmosphere, service AND, most importantly, the food is amazing! I 10/10 would go back to Stonewalls again.
google avatar

Tyler L.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere. Will spend my hard earned shekels there again. I had a Ribeye and would have had another.

Jaylin A.

Yelp
Stonewalls is excellent!! They had great service (MJ was great) and the food was exceptional! We will definitely be coming back next time we're in town!

Kathrin O.

Yelp
We've eaten here several times and the food is excellent however, it's always very busy during ski season so we typically avoid it at this time of year. Recently I was craving a good burger and didn't feel like cooking and my daughter's boyfriend suggested we order them for pickup at Stonewalls. I didn't even know they had them on the menu. I've had their prime rib, filet mignon and a particularly fantastic Halibut but never their steak burger. No joke, it was the best burger I've ever had and at only $16.00 was a real bargain. The service is consistently great and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Karen W.

Yelp
Delicious! Consistency good! Must make reservations. One of the best places to eat at in Banner Elk.

Mak B.

Yelp
My best friends boyfriend took her out to celebrate her passing a really hard class in nursing school. They were both very excited to enjoy a night out together. She ordered a nice steak and asked for it to be medium well but more on the well side and it comes out bloody. You might as well have just walked the cow by a fire and put it on her plate. For a "steakhouse" you don't really know how to cook a simple steak...
google avatar

Joanne B.

Yelp
Dined Friday night with a large group and Kam was OUTSTANDING as our server! She loved our group "theme" and promptly came to take drink orders and share specials. Kam did not hesitate to share her favorites which helped us choose our selections. Food was fabulous and she continually checked on us, and even verbally let us know the 20% automatic gratuities were already added to our separate checks. Of course, we left more after that amazing (and rare) transparency! We will be back!

Yelp
Food was amazing!!! Would absolutely recommend the dry aged ribeye! Service was fantastic as well!
