After conducting an AI-assisted deep research for best romantic hotels in the Quad City area, Stoney Creek was listed as one of the top three. Having just checked in, I can tell you it is definitely not. It is kitschy and family oriented. It has dated decor and carpet, they give out wrist bands to use the pool because of problems with prior guests, and I can hear kids running around in the room above us.
After I shared this feedback with Perplexity, here is what it provided as validation.
Perplexity (AI):
Your experience is valid and aligns with a number of recent guest reviews: **Stoney Creek Hotel Quad Cities** is frequently described as *family-friendly* and *kitschy*, with a lodge/cabin theme and amenities that appeal to families with children, such as a splash pad and a pool area that is a major draw for kids. Many reviews highlight the presence of children, family activities, and a generally casual, rustic atmosphere.
While some guests appreciate the quirky decor and accommodating staff, others have found the hotel dated, with issues ranging from cleanliness to underwhelming room quality and management responsiveness. Several reviewers specifically mention that the property is not particularly romantic and is better suited for families or group stays.
If you’re seeking a truly romantic experience in the Quad Cities, options like **Hotel Blackhawk** or a boutique bed and breakfast such as **Beiderbecke Inn** may better meet your expectations for ambiance and intimacy.
To add to our disappointment, the room I booked was not the room I was assigned. I got a handicap accessible room. I am very tall and the shower hits me in the chest. When I complained upon seeing the room, I was told they were completely sold out and they could not move me. Instead, I was given a discount and a couple of drink tokens to use in the bar. When I tried to go to the bar before we went to dinner, it was closed. I asked the front desk why the bar wasn't open and was told that the bartender had just arrived because they needed a ride and to give her a few minutes to get things open and set up. After waiting 45 minutes, I gave up. The ice machine on our floor has an out of order sign on it.
To give you an idea of their customer base, while I was checking in, the guy next to me was there with a teenage sports team and was required to read and sign their policy that basically said they will kick you out of the hotel if you don't control your kids.
