4 Best Day Trips from Seattle | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set on a 10 acres of cedar forest just two miles from the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park, Stormking specializes in couples massages. The owners converted a historic homestead into an intimate spa, which embodies serenity in the woods. Many frequent Mount Rainier visitors swear by this place as an essential post-hike ritual." - Jenna Scatena, Allison Williams

The cutest cabins in the most beautiful place. Super close to Mount Rainier. Cabins were clean, warm and inviting. Storm King was super communicative and accommodating. Cannot wait to come back, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else for hiking Mount Rainier!

My partner and I stayed here for our anniversary get away and it was ABSOLUTELY magical!! We stayed at the Eagle cabin - An a-frame cabin with an overhanging deck over the rushing creek in the back, what a dream, it truly felt out of a fairy tale haha, + a HOT TUB on the deck too!! What more can you ask for?? The environment was super lush, green, and stunning. The cabin itself was SUPER clean, wow! I was impressed, on top of that, the bed was so comfy, and it was well equiped with all we could need aswell. The service was on point too. Eduard was so communicative, helpful, and thoughtful! Overall we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be coming back again!

Stayed in the Bear cabin. Overall a pleasant experience. However, several things need improvement to be a luxury stay. The hair dryer did not work Absolutely no internet or tv. This was a killer because I work remotely and could not. They have WiFi at the check in office so why not run it to the cabins? No full size grill the grill is a micro size grill that is too small to be usable. Also no charcoal to use said grill. Several of the lights outside and inside cabin were blown No daily maid service or towel service Gas fireplace did not work properly On the positive, loved the location, flowers, building, and mattress.

We had the most amazing time at the cabins! Such a perfect place for a nice relaxing weekend with friends, so cute, and beautiful views. Would 10/10 recommend. Service was amazing 🤩 Thank you 😊

Google
Just stayed here in the heron cabin and we really enjoyed it. Very private, awesome shower, comfy bed… The round wood architecture is stunning. Waking up to the view was a bit of Heaven. We were a little disappointed in the Wi-Fi as connection was spotty and the bath countertop could use a little repair but certainly didn’t ruin our stay. It would be sooo helpful if the owners would leave some info for their guest on local restaurants and recreation. I know they have some on their website but with the spotty Wi-Fi… Anyways, thanks for the awesome stay! Hope to come back soon!

This was a phenomenal place to get away and just disconnect for my birthday weekend. Initially I was a little upset when we got there and no one was around to direct us to our cabin. But, we found it and I was over it pretty quickly 😊 We stayed in the Heron Cabin and we were not disappointed. Such a beautiful cabin with privacy on the deck to enjoy nature and the hot tub at the same time 🥰 We will definitely be back!

We stayed at the Bear Cabin at Stormking Cabins for our one-year anniversary, and it was perfect! 🥰 The cabin was clean, warm, and cozy, with a ready-to-use hot tub. There were board games, snacks, and even an extensive DVD collection available. The kitchen area had everything we needed, including a microwave, coffeemaker, and complimentary coffee, tea, and snacks. The shower was great—big enough for two and with adjustable settings. The fireplace and bathroom heater kept the cabin warm throughout our stay. Plus, the location is ideal, right by the entrance to Mt. Rainier. We loved it and can’t wait to come back! 😊✨

Google
What an amazingly awesome|Place! The room was so perfect! Clean, cozy and perfect! Checked in no issues, had a great hot tub and super quiet back porch. Felt so isolated in the woods, didn't see anyone else on the property the whole time|We were there. The bed was SOOO COMFORTABLE!! Really enjoyed the fireplace. It was such a cute place. I didn't want to leave. We stayed in Wolf, and it was perfect for us. But we joked.... if you are exploring a new relationship and need the privacy of a bathroom door, you don't have it. I've been married for 11 years so listening to my dude take a poop is no issue, BUT if you are wanting to take a very special NEW relationship vacay to the house, pooping for you might be *challenging*. |Shower was great. |Coffee was great. |Bed, again, sooooo comfy!!!!!!|Location, gorgeous. |Felt at home each day. |Loved it!!

Yelp
Recently spent 2 nights here. It was amazing for a much needed recharge. So peaceful. Will 100% be going back

Yelp
Bad place to stay if you want a comfortable bed. Or chair. Brown foam in the hot tub. Bed is unstable frame sounds broken. Saggy and uncomfortable. Heat comes on and stays on well past the set temperature. Gas heat fumes in room make breathing difficult. Spider webs in the lights and even got bit by a spider. Zero stars.

Yelp
We came here for my husband's birthday getaway. Easy check in, super cute, cozy cabin. It was nicely decorated and clean. No issues with hot water, it only takes a minute for the water to warm as it is January right now, I guess. The hot tub was so much fun, and we really appreciated the privacy. Raven cabin was completely private in a forested area. One thing that you may want to be careful about is that the bathroom is covered with a curtain only, not much privacy. We didn't like that a lot. Highly recommend this place for a couple get away though. P.S: the spa is closed indefinitely and we only found out about this after we booked the cabin.

Yelp
There for our honeymoon and it was perfect! The cabin was clean and comfortable. We slept great each night, even having the daylight over our heads first thing in the morning was welcoming. It was peaceful, quiet with only the sounds of nature. We have told many friends about your cabins and we will be back.

Yelp
Such an amazing little weekend getaway! So Ready to go back!!!! Close to home but yet far away from the kids . There's no service but not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Yelp
My husband and I just got back from an anniversary trip to Stormking Cabins & Spa during COVID 19 breakout. This was the perfect getaway during this confusing and scary time. We stayed in the Raven Cabin and it was extremely clean and we felt very safe. Other than when we checked in, we didn't see any other guests the entire time we were there. The grounds are beautiful, the cabin was super cute and it was SO serene. The only suggestions I have are there wasn't any place really to unpack anything. Maybe put some drawers into the bed frame or find a place for a small dresser or even some shelves. The other suggestion is to update the microwave. It is super old and didn't have much power. These are just suggestions and they are minor, they would not deter us from coming back. Thank you for a much needed awesome anniversary getaway. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
We've been staying at this place for a couple nights out of four. So far so excellent! We're in the Owl, super large and comfortable. We had a toilet overflow issue come up and the staff was super responsive in fixing it! Thanks Staff! The deck and hot tub is awesome, but the fire ring just outside is the best. Camping and showering at the same place... We'll definitely stay here again!

Yelp
These cabins are a complete hidden treasure! We stayed over Easter weekend for some much needed relaxation and decompression from a busy few months. The owners are sweet and the deer that greet you at the main house are completely nonchalant in their acknowledgment of people, unlike ours that run at the first sight of anything with two legs! The cabins themselves are lovely. Perfect sized for two, we stayed in Raven and enjoyed every minute. The skylight was easily my favorite feature and the sound of rain on the roof provided great ambience, along with the sound of the nearby river. We didn't hear another soul, but the birds and wildlife chattered happily away. Between some wine from Copper Creek down the road and the fireplace, we enjoyed great laughs and spending time with one another before heading back to the grind. Highly recommend and we can't wait to come back. If you're looking for true peace and quiet, book a cabin and spend some time here!

Yelp
We stayed at the Bear cabin for our honeymoon and enjoyed every second! The entire place is beautiful and cabins have enough space between them to not pay too much attention to each other. We stayed in March so it should be noted that only a few restaurants were open during that time, and room doesn't have a full kitchen so bring some munchies! The skylight and hot tub were amazing. I would recommend getting a massage, but it was a little pricey for my liking. We will definitely be back to try out another cabin!

Yelp
I'm sad to say I'm only giving 3 stars. Overall the property and cabin was beautiful just as described. We stayed in the newly built Owl cabin for 4 nights. Unfortunately our troubles started the first night when we were watching a DVD and wham the power went out on one whole side of the cabin. So its dark and cold and there's no phone in the cabin and no cell service, so you can't call the office. Not to mention the fact that the website says there's free Wi-Fi and there isn't (or at least non we were granted a password for). So we get up, get dressed and go up to the office to say hey we have a problem. My husband and I had already figured we blew the breaker but couldn't do anything about it cause the breaker box was located in a locked closet off the deck outside. The woman who is apparently running the office actually has her young son taking care of everything we assumed because she may or may not have understood/spoken much English. When we told him what was wrong he was certainly surprised and basically had no idea what to do so we suggested looking at the breaker and of course that's what had happened. We reset it and figured that was it, but nope it happened again and you guessed it. Up out of bed, dressed again and back to the office. This time we asked that he leave the closet unlocked so we could deal with it ourselves if it happened again and he agreed to do so. He also told us he spoke with his uncle who was actually the owner of the property and that he would be out the next day to fix the problem since we'd be gone all day. Great!!! Wrong!! When we returned the next day it was apparent nothing had been worked on and you guessed it, it continued to happen 4-5 times every evening/night that we stayed. Such a pain in the ass, especially at 10-11 at night when your tucked in bed and have to keep getting up to reset the breaker outside in the cold and rain. The best part is we couldn't communicate any of this to the owner who was there the last few days we were because he doesn't speak or understand English. My husband and I both tried to make the best of it despite all the BS but this definitely should not have happened. Certainly not in a brand new cabin and not for the price we payed to stay 4 nights. It should have been fixed as promised and since it wasn't at the very least we should have been offered a 20% discount on our stay for our troubles! The customer should not be responsible for trying to rectify the owners mistakes. Mike and Lisa Marquez

Yelp
I planned an anniversary weekend trip to Stormking Cabins&spa and was NOT disappointed! This weekends destination was supposed to be a surprise for my partner and boy was she blown away. We stayed in the Bear cabin, stoked in the hot tub each night and enjoyed mt Rainer national park being only 7 minutes down the road.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! We booked 3 of the 4 cabins for our Honeymoon getaway and had a wonderful time! We went late September and the weather was perfect! General: Very private and secluded. No cell phone reception, yay! The mossy forest right outside the door was just what we were looking for; fresh, crisp air all day long! All of the cabins have a microwave, fresh coffee and lots of little kitchen items so you don't have to leave the cabin if you don't want to! We also had a hot stone massage that we highly recommend! Heron Cabin: All of the cabins are luxurious but this one is the best, in our opinion! The cabin is large but cozy with all of the wood accents and comfy fireplace. The duel shower with wall jets was my favorite. This cabin also has a little trail leading to a bench overlooking the river and another bench by a pond. Raven Cabin: This was the smallest cabin and most secluded at the back end of the property. No duel shower. We heard lots of critters in the night at this cabin, we think because it's so tucked away in the back of the property. The back porch view was amazing! They have a hammock and picnic bench to use, when the weather is warmer. Bear Cabin: We had a little raccoon visit us at this cabin, he was stealing all of the bird food but made some very cute pictures. This cabin had a bigger shower but no side jets. The hot tub was also broken, only 1 jet worked. Again, the view off the back porch was so beautiful! There are lots of little cabins like this near Mt. Rainier but we decided on Stormking because: 1. It was very secluded and the cabins were far away from each other. 2. Each cabin had a hot tub! 3. No children allowed =) Thank you Deborah, Steve and Mr. Noodles!

Yelp
Our stay here was absolutely perfect! We stayed in the Raven cabin, which was the best one in our opinion.. it was the most isolated and farthest away. We didn't see or hear a single person while we were there. Everything was perfect from the time we checked in until we left. The woman running the place was so nice. The room was absolutely beautiful.. the skylight and private hot tub were great. It was just so cozy and relaxing..I loved that it was far enough out for there to not be cell phone service. We were able to really unplug for a few days and just enjoy our time there. We will definitely be returning to Stormking.

Yelp
Our romantic getaway at Stormking was amazing. The sound of nature and fresh air while in the private jacuzzi is such an awesome experience. My wife and I have been here quite a few times and we can't get enough. The cleanliness of the cabins and the friendliness of the staff shows that they truly care about their customers. I would highly recommend Stormking for anyone

Amy D.

Yelp
Clean, nice, private cabin. What is advertised and priced as a spa, is currently not accurate due to pandemic, but never made clear, communicated, or reflected in adjusted price. There is currently no spa services. Zero customer service. A family pokes their head out of their home next to office to hand you your key with unwelcoming and unprofessional demeanor. Expect no customer service if you have questions or concerns. We stayed at bear cabin- very beautiful and sweet. The skylight is pretty on a clear night, just be prepared to wake up at the crack of dawn when the sun comes up. For the price, I would expect better.

Yelp
Most relaxing weekend of my life was spent at Storm King. Very romantic, private and peaceful atmosphere. Loved that there was no Internet or cell service. Management provides a small basket of breakfast foods and a microwave and mini fridge. There are 2-3 small country restaurants down the road. They also offered a dvd collection to choose from. The national park is just minutes away and stunning! We almost didn't go but are so glad we did. The views and waterfalls are amazing. We stayed at the Heron and loved it. This place has been featured in magazines for a reason.

Yelp
Stayed here for a few nights for our anniversary and could not have been more pleased. Beautiful cabins in an even more beautiful surrounding. Lots of privacy and the hot tub was so nice after a long hike. We will definitely be back to celebrate another anniversary soon!

Yelp
I would rate this a 10 star if I could! My fiance and I seriously had the best time ever here. This place feels totally private and secluded. We stayed in the Wolf Cabin and could not stop talking about the amazing lush green forest we had as our backyard. Deborah and Steve have thought of everything! The fresh ground coffee and juices they provide you with made mornings that much more special. The surrounding area is great too, we enjoyed all the restaurants and local arts and of course the proximity you are to the Mount Rainier National Park. After a 14 mile hike through the park, coming home to our private Jacuzzi was all anybody could really ask for. Will definitely be returning as soon as possible. Remember to book in advance because these cabins will be booked solid!

Bogdan D.

Yelp
Such an amazing place! There are no words to explain how beautiful and well kept it is! Amazing hospitality by the owners and ensuring your stay is peaceful and amazing! I highly recommend this place for you and your partner!!

Yelp
We just returned from a three night stay at Stormking. What a wonderful place to recharge our batteries! The Wolf cabin was meticulously appointed with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. So warm and cozy for a long day of book reading! We did a few difficult hikes on the mountain and returning to our cabin and soaking in the hot tub was the icing on the cake. My husband and I both received an hour hand and foot massage from Cybill. Holy smokes! Cybill has hands of an angel! The BEST foot massage I have ever experienced! The spa is beautifully decorated and immediately invokes tranquility. One of the many sweet and unexpected surprises of our stay was the ambiance of the spa. Absolutely perfect in every way! And Cybill......did I mention Cybill? Our trip was amazing!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stayed in the Heron Cabin a week ago for a birthday celebration. We loved all aspects of this cute little cabin, from the fabulous two person spa/shower, to the comfortable king bed with a large skylight to watch the stars and trees above... it was just the perfect get-away. The private deck and hot tub added to our relaxation after a day of hiking on the mountain. We enjoyed the pond but the short walk through the woods to Goat Creek (complete with bench) was where we drank our wine at night and our coffee in the morning. All the added touches were so nice..... like the basket of tea light candles, the basket of CD's, which were picked with relaxation and romance in mind. The owners even had Deer Treats to spread out! I've stayed at four different cabins at Mt Rainier, and this is by far the best. We highly recommend! We'll definitely be back!

Eddy P.

Yelp
Best place I've ever stayed at! Amazing management, well taken care of and makes sure your are having a peaceful and enjoy full stay. Cabins are exceptionally clean! The entire place top down are more than just 5 stars! It's a must stay for you or your significant other!

Yelp
My husband and I tried to stay here for our honeymoon, but were disappointed to find they were already booked. You better book well in advance if you want to stay here! Anyway, it gave us a good excuse to go on a second honeymoon two and a half months later. :) Everything was perfect! The cabin was beautiful and VERY private. We stayed in the Heron. It was serene. Loved the hot tub, exquisite shower, nearby creek and pond, comfy bed, charcoal grill, surround sound, and video on demand. As someone else stated, there is no cell service, but there is internet service if you're close to the office. I would have been happier to have internet service in the cabin, but after the initial discomfort wore off, it was quite relaxing to just lay in the bed and stare into the trees through the skylight. I had no idea how wound-up I was until I could feel my body sinking into a deep sea of relaxation. We took a day to go up to Mt. Rainier National Park, which is very close by. So many cool hikes and majestic scenery. It was the perfect time of year to go-- beautiful and not even close to being crowded. We were there on a perfectly clear day. We were told of the resident deer population when we arrived and looked forward to seeing them. However, it was only when we were loading up the car to leave that we were graced with their presence. Still, we were able to feed them out of our hand and one of them ("Miss Piggy" I assume) let me pet her. Wow, what an experience! We look forward to our next visit. Definitely something to make into an annual trip!
google avatar

Colton M.

Yelp
Awesome place. We stayed in the Heron cabin and loved it. Highly recommended!! It was rainy our whole trip but still had a great time. Good location if you're looking to spend some time at Mt Rainier National Park. Hot tubs are awesome too!!
google avatar

Andrea W.

Yelp
Stormking Spa retreat is awesome. my husband and I went here for our honeymoon and we couldn't have been more thrilled with the scenery, cabin, massage and service. The owner is great! She really makes you feel welcome! We stayed in the Heron cabin and just loved it. It was the first time we really got away together (ie, no cell, no internet). All you can do is relax--and we did :) The private hot tub was on point This retreat is also very close to the Mt. Rainier park entrance. We were able to drive up and go on hikes easily.

Yelp
We are annual visitors to StormKing Spa and look forward to every visit with Deborah and Steven. They are wonderful hosts of an exquisite property for decompressing, enjoying nature, and generally going "off the grid" to relax. The entire property is a forest wonderland at the foot of Mt. Rainier, so if your tastes lean towards hiking or enjoying the snow-covered mountain tops, this is the place to come. Our go-to cabin choice is "The Eagle", for it's location, it's forest setting, and it's amenities. Eagle's comforts and quiet is our perfect getaway with it's tranquility and privacy - what else do you need but a King-sized bed, a fireplace/stove, and a hot-tub?? But, all the comforts in the world wouldn't be the same without the oversight and management of Deborah and Steve. We now consider them "family" from their concern for our comfort and pleasure during our time there, and we look forward to returning every year. Do yourself a favor and plan on a relaxing, stress-free trip to StormKing Spa - you'll regret it if you don't!!

Pam K.

Yelp
We stayed for five nights at the eagle cabin which was privately located off the main road. It was nestled between a small pond and some old growth forest. Very beautiful and tranquil setting. The cabin itself was very clean and the bathroom has a great spacious double shower. The bed was king size and very comfortable. Debra was very accommodating and a gracious host. We would highly recommend this cabin. Jeff and Pam, Tennessee
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
heron cabin if its available. The private deck over looking the pond and waterfall is priceless. The cabin itself is awesome. my wife and I spent a night here and it was awesome. private hot tub, private deck, private cabin, no cell phone signal whatsoever. What do you think we did?
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Words can not explain how magical these cabins are. If you are looking for a romantic, private couple's escape, this is the place to be. My husband took me here for our 3 year anniversary and we recently went back for our 5 year anniversary. I cried both times!!! We stayed in the Raven which is a yurt style cabin with a secluded hot tub and a river rock shower. Stormking has a total of 4 private cabins. Each cabin has a private hot tub, gas fireplace, microwave, mini fridge and some even include breakfast. Rates remain the same all year round and can range from $190-$205 per night. If you book a spa treatment (which I highly recommend) the nightly rate is discounted. Stormking has been named one of the best places to visit in the NW. Especially because it is located just about a mile from the Mt. Rainier park entrance. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CABIN TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR A ROMANTIC GETAWAY!!!
google avatar

Ian L.

Yelp
Staying at the raven was one of the best decisons I've ever made. We went for our one year anniversary and will continue with the tradition for as long as we can. Stay at the raven, get a massage, cook for yourselves, go up the mountain and you will enjoy every second. These cabins are the answer to "how to get away"

Stephanie L.

Yelp
This is the perfect place for a peaceful romantic getaway. The attention to detail is incredible and it's only a short distance away to some of the best hiking around. Steve and Deborah are so nice and welcoming, they are available for anything you need throughout your stay. We can't wait for our next visit.

Lori P.

Yelp
Amazing place! Cabins are wonderful craftsmanship with attention to details. Each cabin has a private hot tub nestled in a beautiful forest area. Only one mile to the Mount Rainier park entrance! Perfect romantic getaway with wonderful owners eager to please!

Amy H.

Yelp
I don't recommend this lodging. The owner was very rude in all of my encounters with her. The land is beautiful but I still wouldn't return here.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
This place made our honey moon! We stayed in the wolf cabin; the cabins are each unique in what they offer. Ours had a lush and private view of old growth forests with our own foot trail into it and a small creek that we could hear from the hot tub. The owners live on property and run the show. The wife, an LMT, offers great spa treatments and the husband can give you some great advice on the park, which the cabins are only ten minutes away from. It felt less like we were checking in to a spa, and more like we were staying with family. The cabin was amazing. A 12 sided hut with a really comfortable bed and a kick-ass surround system (you ever blast wall to wall Enya while in a forest?-life changing haha) with mosaic tile flooring made to look like a forest floor leading you to a luxurious rock shower. A gas fireplace is hooked up to the thermostat so we would wake up to a gentle fire and spend our mornings in our deck hot tub looking for deer and sipping the gourmet coffee that they roast themselves. There was also a big sky light over the bed thst we could watch the stars from as dozed off. We saw the other cabin rental places on our drive in and to the park and they all looked kind of run down and motor-lodgy. Places great to take the family, but none of them looked like they could have offered the quiet and isolated luxury that stormking did. Even though there are multiple cabins, they work it to where you can't see your neighbors and they can't see you from any window or from the deck and hot tub.
