Storms River Forest Lodge

Overall it’s an ideal budget stay for exploring the national park, which is exactly what we used it for. You get what you pay for, it’s basic but clean, and the complimentary tea/coffee is a nice touch. However, we booked the “glamping” tent, which was very basic. We had booked a double bed and we were given two singles. It appeared we had been shoved in the worst tent they had, no wifi, furthest from the bathrooms and the zip on our tent broke as soon as we used it. Meaning we had to spend the night with mosquitos getting into the tent. We told the staff about it and to their credit they did upgrade us to a double room inside the lodge for our second night, free of charge. The rooms inside are basic too and have shared bathrooms, but definitely more comfortable than the tent experience. Don’t pick the tent if you don’t want to be woken up at 5am by a whole host of animals too 😅

It was rustic, a bit basic glamping with shared toilets but we had a wonderful experience at this very hospitable lodge. Staff was most friendly and helpful. There are shared kitchen facilities inside the lodge and outside. If you plan to dine, best to start early as few restaurants that are opened in the area tend to close early. I loved my tent and sleeping to the sound of rain coming down all night.

Highly recommend staying at Storms River Forest Lodge if you need a place to rest in the area. We stayed in the covered tents which are equipped with lights, power and even heated blankets for the coldest of nights. We found the tent warm enough with the door/vents closed despite it being 10C at night and did not need to use the heated blankets. High ceilings so no need to crouch and lots of space for gear along the perimeter of the tent. There is even a porch for hanging out or letting clothes dry if you get caught in the rain. Each tent is provided a padlock and key so you're gear is safe while you are out during the day. The property is also gated with electric fence surrounding the perimeter. The showers (with hot water) and toilets were in working order and clean. Both a very short walk from the tent. Self-catering coffee available inside the lodge. Everything you need in the village is within walking distance. The highlight is the owner/staff. Matthew is a great dude and his staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They helped us book a shuttle, get us transport to/from the river mouth and answered our annoying questions about the area. HIGHLY recommend staying here if you have the chance. 10/10

We had such a wonderful time we didn't want to come home. We stayed in a tent and it was so quiet and peaceful and in touch with nature. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you for the great service and hospitality.

Many thanx for an Amazing Stay which I had to extend out of shear enjoyment of Storms River Village. Just so much to see n do makes for extended Stay. Enjoyed the Atmospher and clean Lodge run by extremely Friendly Staff. I will be back Soon.

This place was awesome from the moment I parked my car… First of all the parking is ample. After I got out I was greeted by the most awesome and friendly dog, Luka and then shortly thereafter by Matthew. I was a little early for check in and was just going to ask to park my car and come back at 2 but he actually got me all squared away early which was awesome! I’m staying in the covered tent rooms. The set up is great! The mattress is super comfortable, there are lights, plugs, and even adapters if you need them as well as a nightstand and a chair in the tent which feels really spacious. The tent rooms also come with towels! On the deck of the tents there are also two comfy chairs and plenty of space to relax. The star of the show is honestly the showers. Might be the best shower I’ve had all year (it’s September and I’ve been traveling since January). The water pressure is epic, and the temperature will go as hot or as cold as you can stand it. The showers are spacious and private and perfect. I would come back just for another shower here. The lodge space itself is also great. It’s a big area and is very well maintained. There are hammocks to chill on, benches, outdoor seating/couches as well. Anything you could want really. There are two communal kitchens to cook from. One is inside and has everything you could possibly need to cook with and the other is outside where there is also a braai which you could use too and bundles of wood is just 25 rand. Both kitchens are well stocked for pretty much anything you might want to cook or bake and there is a fridge in both kitchens as well. There is also an inside and outside coffee station with free tea/coffee and sugar and milk. It’s so quiet here and you can just feel immersed in nature with the comforts of a solid hotel. The lodge is also really close to center town which is a beautiful 10 minute walk. Tsitrus cafe, the microbrewery and the general store are all really close and I highly recommend. Overall this was a fantastic stay and I can’t recommend it enough! As soon as I got here I was already wishing I could stay longer. I will DEFINITELY be back!

I had the most amazing weekend stay at the Knysna Lodge very much! Waking to having monkeys visiting us for breakfast and lovely views. Definitely affordable, comfortable and peaceful!
