On the Grid : Storries Bakery

"After visiting any of the bars in this guide, you might find yourself having had one too many drinks, and a lack of sustenance. Storries pies have actually been known to save lives - they’re a thing of legend in Leith. Importantly, their unfathomable opening hours (they seem to be open all hours of the night) means a visit to this no-nonsense, old-school bakery is perfect for when the pubs close. Classic steak pie is always a safe bet for first timers. At around a bargain £1.50 per pie you should take one home too - a macaroni cheese pie, perhaps, or try the chicken curry one. Look for the little queue forming out the door and the bright yellow glow. You’re nearly home." - fourcolourblack

Went in to Storrie today, about 4pm. Asked for doner meat pie, 'hot or cold' woman asked, 'hot please' was my reply. OMG, how long had this thing been kept hot, not a few hour, DAYS by the look of it!! Straight in the bin! Never again will I be back to this bakery! Would of gave service more stars as woman was polite and cheery but knocked 2 stars off. She must of known how long that so called pie had been kept hot yet still sold it!

I keep passing Storries on the tram from work and knew it was an old school bakers so went in on Sunday and got 2 Scotch/ mince and 2 Steak pies. I’m not a huge fan of steak pies but they were brilliant as were the mince pies. Pastry was thick and crispy and they were filled with meat. Glad I went in. Brilliant scran

Totally love picking up a pastry cake or a doughnut or two while passing by the shop. The smell of baking from the shop is amazing and automatically pulls you in. I liked the sweet items there more than the savoury ones and unfortunately since we can’t have different kinds of meat I couldn’t try the savoury pies.

I would normally give Storries 5 stars but today, Sat 24/05/25, the food was all wrong & different. I bought a Scotch Pie and the pie-crust was thick, inedible with a stingy filling. The Rolls were flat, as if they hadn't risen and were flavourless. The Apple Turnover wasn't baked enough, soggy and contained little cream. I'm wondering if they have been taken over, as the person serving me, needed somebody to show him the Scotch Pies. It appears to be Orientals in charge. Well, I wish them every success as I always support independent businesses, but I believe they have bought the name and judging by the food, they have lost the quality.

Such a lovely woman served us this morning. Sausage rolls are absolutely beautiful. The doughnut I got was really sweet, but absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend. Will be back.

Brilliant pies, buns and bread as good prices. Bakeries that never close feel like a thing that's been around for thousands of years, we are very lucky to have one so close. Long live Storries 🙌

I am not one for leaving a review but this place is a life saver late at night. After a friend and I raved the socks off ourselves at the Terminal V festival, we were ice cold and shivering whilst we tried to make our way back to the gaff. We hopped on the tram in town all the way to the last stop with no food in our bellies and hardly a light in the street, except one glowing ray of sunshine beaming from Storries Home Bakery at the last stop. It was similar to a light at the end of a tunnel and just like a moth to a flame, we were straight in. Those warm sausage rolls and yummy pastries were what shielded us two ill-clothed, frozen beans from the cold as we meandered home. Storries Home Bakery may not be fanciest bakery in the world, but they are a haven of warm pastry goodness—a hug in food form, like the one you always wanted from your parents but never quite got and in my eyes, that makes it worthy of the five stars. Keep up the lords work, by saving our lost raving souls 🤘

Yelp
The pies from this place are amazing. I'm a pretty greedy eater so I had both a chicken curry and an apple pie from Storries the other day which were both delicious. The bakery is hidden deep in Leith Walk and doesn't look much from the outside, but within it feels nice and warm with an enticing aroma circulating about the place. Their front counter has great array of cakes, sponges, doughnuts and intricate confectionary. They also make their own large steak pies for big family meals which are apparantly made only of the finest quality beef. The pastry on the pies which I tasted was really nice and buttery, whilst the fillings were delicious. They only cost about £1 each and I will definitely be going back for more soon!

Yelp
I love places which until you discover them you wiuld walk right past without a second glance. When you do discover them, you go in with a smirk on your face because you know what evrybody else is missing out on. Thats because the pies here are simply amazing - whether you order a small individual one which is the perfect lunch time snack, or one of thier larger family sized ones to use as a meal later on, you wont be dissapointed - the fillings are always beautiful and the pastry is lovely. They also do a range of sweet things, the usual that you would expect from a bakery, but again thier quality is very high.

Yelp
I must admit...the pies in here are amazing. It's not often you'll hear me saying I love pies (haha) but they are amazing here. It doesn't look like much to a passer-by, but keep an eye out for this charming little bakery! The prices are reasonable for the quality you get, so it's definitely worth a look!

Yelp
Can never choose between a steak, curry or Mac pie so I get all 3. And cheese scones. The cheese scones are something else. Must do in Edinburgh after a night out. Thankfully it's local to me. Love a storries.

Yelp
The baker shop. A storries steak pie is a thing of legend whether traditional or round pie. their sausage rolls are legend but the piece de resistance these days is their curry pie. a pie case stuffed full of curry and topped with rice under the pie top. For some reason their scones seem a little salty but i go there for the pies.

Yelp
Small and cheap bakery on Leith Walk - it always seems to be open at odd hrs so if you want your fresh rolls at 5am then this is the pace to come. I haven't tried the pies but have come here a lot for cakes - they are great, really good selection and tasty. Way better than the numerous Greggs that have sprung up around it.

Yelp
Great wee place. Hidden gem. The steak pies I believe are known to be actual lifesavers! Definatley somewhere to know about. I'm lucky enough to work across the road but have been know to deviate from my way home after a night out x

Yelp
Storries Pies, what can I say! I've not tried the curry pie but their apple pies are FAB try one today & I'm gonna go for the curry pie next time I'm in! They apparently do a mean bacon roll too!
