"Christmas Markets in Stockholm December in Stockholm is a great time to explore various Christmas markets (Julmarknader) around town. At Stortorget in Gamla stan (Old town), you'll find the city's most popular Christmas market where you can pick up a variety of porcelain ornaments, festive decorations, and wooden gnomes as well as dig into gingerbread cookies (pepparkakor), mulled wine (glögg), candied almonds, jams, and deli meats."

Yelp
Stockholm's "Grand Square" is the oldest square in the city and is the main square for tourists and tours. The Stock Exchange Building is here which houses the Nobel Museum and the Nobel Library. The centerpiece here is the well that was also designed by Erik Palmstedt. The fountain is connected to the city water system and yes, the water from the fountain is completely drinkable. Note the cannonball in the corner of building number 7 in the plaza. Legend has it that it dates back to the Stockholm Bloodbath. And yes, this was the plaza where the term "bloodbath" was coined following mass executions in November 1520. [Review 18692 overall - 27 in Sweden - 2215 of 2022.]

Yelp
Stortorget is the oldest square in Stockholm, in the city's old town (Gamla Stan), it is a visually pleasant area of the city with some beautiful colourful buildings and some benches where you can sit and watch the tourists pass through. It's the highest point in the city and dates back to the Middle Ages. It's very artistic with some businesses in and around the square, most notably Börshuset (Stock Exchange Building) I enjoyed just passing through here on my trip to Stockholm, once you get through all the tourists, this place feels special and unique. 4*

Yelp
The grand square in located in the old town was a quick stop for us. I enjoyed the colorful buildings, especially houses 18 and 20. The Nobel Prize museum is also located here.

Yelp
We had quite some fun in Gamla Stan. And Stortorget is surely the beating heart of it. The famous colorful historic buildings - we've all seen them on pictures. And it's nice to see them for real. The square is pretty crowded - but if you bring some time (something most visitors don't seem to have), then you can enjoy this place and even get a good pic or two. The Nobelmuseet is quite a sight as well as the beautiful fountain. The sides are lined with lots of shops and restaurants. Not the great culinaric experience, but fun enough for a drink and to watch the world go by. Surely not to be missed on a visit to Gamla Stan.

Yelp
It is absolutely crowded with tourists but it's beautiful and worth a visit. Every city has their own old town areas and Stortorget is one of the most beautiful. The colorful historic buildings are worth a stop even if you're not one for tourist attractions. (In the center of the square is an old-style water fountain.)

Yelp
Stortorget is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. It located in the old town. One of the place that shouldn't be miss that in Gamla stan island. I was just wandering around with my hubby at this place, there was quite a lot cool restaurants and café around this area. Of course, this place is the busiest spot on the island, mostly because of the iconic buildings and it is really close Nobelmuseet. It is very close to Kungliga slottet as well. I personally like this place quite a lot, the square wasn't so big, it was quite funny because the name of this place actually meant " the big square". Well, it was big back then, I guess. When I was there, I saw many different artists came over here and performing. Also the Royal Swedish Cadet Band was here, the music plus and unique style of the old buildings, it just made our trip even more brilliant. Thumbs up.
