The meals were brought out cold to warm. They over salted both our meals and if it were any more salty we could not have eaten it. There were other things but will stop here. It was a special occasion. My wife might eat lunch there but never again an evening meal.

This place is incredible! We stayed in the Doc Story House and the place was immaculate. The hot tub was amazing, food was delicious, and the bar had excellent drinks with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Comedy show was excellent, we laughed the entire time. Just the getaway my husband and I needed. Thank you, Story! Yall were an excellent host, and we will be returning!

My husband and I have stayed here a couple of times, and it’s always wonderful! I came here this time to specifically review the restaurant and tavern. We got a drink in the basement tavern, which is just such a cool atmosphere. Then we got dinner in the restaurant, which was just outstanding. We had a couple great cocktails, and the pork chop was one of the best meals I’ve had in my life. So delicious!

This review is long overdue, but this is literally the cutest and most romantic place. My husband and I got married In September 2023 and spent our honeymoon weekend here. We stayed in the Treaty Inn and it is such a vibe. It has a hot tub and there is a little flower and vegetable garden right next to it that you can walk through. They have cats that walk around the little town, but they mostly stay by the main Inn. If you stay i definitely recommend you go to the Inn for brunch! They serve different things everytime but it’s always so yummy! The staff here are some of the friendliest people as well! When we went back in 2024 for our first anniversary, they gave us wine glasses and a tote bag to celebrate. This place holds such a special place in our hearts. If you are thinking of anywhere to stay in Nashville this is definitely the best one!

Had the Victorian Dinner back in 2017 and it was amazing. Food and service was excellent. I went back 12/14 with my girls. The quality of the service and food I cannot give a good review. We were seated in the back room with a table of very happy people. The noise was horrible. I felt like the staff was a little overwhelmed with it being so busy. I don't believe I would return for the dinner.

Google
Fun to visit but not to stay overnight. It was worn, AC loud, towels scimpy, sheets you could see through. The continental breakfast was oranges & granola bars. They had instant oatmeal however there was one coffee maker to boil water so you had to boil water make oatmeal and tea then make the coffee. No table in the area to sit at and non in the room we had. The bar downstairs was fine but very limited menu when we were there. At one time the first floor had a dining room but not lately. The webpage makes it sound cool. The picture you are showing it not what we encountered there. There are other places on site to stay in. Maybe they are better. If you do stay you will remember it and have a story to tell and maybe the ghost will visit. Stay in Nashville instead.

Pretty great place. Food is good, the atmosphere is cool, and the drinks are cold. We rode our horses over 2 different days. 1st day went great. But a non-horse patron messed with our horses on our second trip over. Be careful if you ride over. And if they aren't your horses, keep your distance.

My mom and I recently ate at the story inn and had a terrible experience. I ordered a hamburger and my mom ordered a chicken sandwich. We received our food and both the chicken and hamburger were completely raw in the middle. Our male server was very rude and at this point had disappeared. We flagged down a woman waitress that was very nice. She looked at the chicken and the hamburger and said the following: “the hamburger won’t make you sick but the chicken would make you very sick, people eat raw hamburger meat here all the time”. They did take the food back and made sure it was fully cooked before bringing it back down. In the process, the male waiter/bartender did come back but continued to be rude and even started talking about how the story inn isn’t even haunted, as that’s one of the main things they use to promote the building and their services. He seemed very put off and bothered by our presence as we were the only ones even there. If you look at other recent reviews it seems to show that with new ownership the story inn service and quality is going downhill. If you look at other reviews, you will notice responses from the owner. In almost every poor review, the owner takes personal jabs at reviewers instead of acknowledging that there is an issue and making a stance to get it resolved for the future.

Yelp
Such a fun place, hidden treasure! Always different and special. Great food, honest people, out of the beaten path.

Yelp
Story has been a place we like to come to when we are ready for some R&R. 10 miles off the beaten path. Beautiful flower gardens, great food, good entertainment. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are nice and comfy. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
During our Sunday trip to Brown County we stopped at Story, IN for an early lunch. The place was packed, which wasn't a total surprise for a beautiful Sunday in October, but what was surprising was the $25 brunch menu. My companion wasn't $25 hungry but I ordered the Cajun Shrimp and Grits, which was uneatable. Entirely over seasoned with very small portions. The shrimp were big and lovely but drowned in a spicy sauce that made them intolerable. Minuscule grits, potatoes, and one slice of bacon and one sausage. I have eaten here in the past and found the food acceptable but not so today.

Yelp
I would not recommend Story Inn after hosting my wedding there in May 2024. It is clear to me now that what happened to us is unfortunately typical for the Story Inn - the owner/venue over charges, over promises, and under delivers. Below is a VERY abbreviated list of items that went wrong: 1. Ceremony location was not ready 20 minutes (not an exaggeration) before the ceremony a. This only got taken care of because my officiant noticed and scrambled to make it happen. (I had also noticed and reminded them of this on Friday. I literally just expected them to wipe down the benches and remove an undesired arch (as agreed upon). b. The reception area was also not set up as discussed. My partner and I had to spend 1.5hrs pulling dirty chairs out of the barn and fixing the setup when we arrived on Friday. 2. Bar setup was a disaster - the issues here, could be a lengthy review on their own a. Received less than1/4 of the pre-paid volume of batched cocktails. Meaning my guests paid for a significantly higher amount of drinks and the venue made a lot of money by not providing what was agreed to. b. Changed out my pre-paid wines for sweet, 'local' options (reminder that we are in Indiana, so local is a frightening term to use for wine). c. Could not take cards at the bar (even though this was explicitly asked about and assured). Instead, started tabs with guests credit card info written down and went to another building to run them. (This is apparently what Rich knew would be the case when I asked but did not think it was worth mentioning.) d. Did not have some of the beers agreed on for Friday evening gathering. e. Put out a tip jar even though I had already been required to pay 20% gratuity on the entire invoice. 3. Very clearly under-staffed and unable to serve food in the manner agreed upon in advance a. Our entire dinner was intended to be passed hors d'oeuvres. Agreed in advance that all items, other than a charcuterie setup, would be passed. I never saw a single item passed. They assure me that 3.2 out of the 9 items were passed. b. The venue event coordinator had to bring out food because she had no one else to do it. This prevented her from doing any event coordinating. 4. Hosted another event at the same time as our wedding 5. Did not receive several items and services that were agreed upon in advance 6. Poor treatment of multiple guests When I reached out to the owner about these issues, he refused to take any accountability. If you have read how he has responded to other negative reviews (I will not be surprised if he responds similarly to this one), that will give you a glimpse into how we were treated. I will not be coming back.

Yelp
Just wanted to let it be known that the gratuity that is being included on Thanksgiving and the package deals offered are not given to the waitstaff. Instead is pocketed by the owner!

Yelp
I have wanted to visit this spot for so long and we were finally able to stop by to check it out. It really takes you back in time and feels so nostalgic. The history engulfs you and you can't help but feel like you were transported back in time. We enjoyed a beer in the downstairs tavern then went outside to enjoy the gardens. The BBQ hut smelled amazing but we didn't eat. Everyone was so warm and welcoming despite us being tourists. If you're passing through this area you absolutely cannot miss this gem. We can't wait to visit again to have dinner and stay in the bed and breakfast!

Yelp
Neat place. Dinner was great with good service. And we are going back on September 12th for dinner!

Yelp
Very poor quality food with a high price point. We've been going here for 15 years and this has been the worst meal we had. We had beef tips with a mushroom sauce that tasted like flour. The brussels sprouts were overcooked. For 200 bucks this was not worth it. I can cook better than this, the service was great. The wine was great. We will not go back.

Yelp
Very disappointing Father's Day meal. To begin with, we were not aware strictly prix fix brunch menu. Apparently, we had last reservation. Not a welcoming atmosphere and some inexplicable confusion. Server was distracted, rattled, or confused? Behavior a little weird. Food was dried out, portions very skimpy. (We should know better than to reserve a time on a holiday at a favorite restaurant...rarely a good experience. ) Accompanied by out of town friends, and we were embarrassed w/ quality of meal. Hope this visit was a one off.

Yelp
Met up with friends in July 2023 for brunch while visiting Nashville. Old haunted hotel with really fine restaurant, pretty much the only major building left in Story. Hubby being disabled, I called beforehand to verify accessibility. Parking was a short distance away in a gravel lot - not the easiest to traverse with a scooter. A wheelchair ramp is available on the far side of the hotel, which was doable, but maneuvering hubby's scooter took some doing as the halls are quite narrow. We were seated promptly (reservations strongly recommended!) & our server was on top of things. Food was great, company even better! There's a small shop at the entrance where they sell apple butter & other goods. (Highly recommend the apple butter!) Before leaving, my friend & I walked back to the gardens, passing the outdoor lounge & espying the horses "parked" nearby. Turns out Story abuts Brown County State Park & their horseman trail. Some unique art pieces seen on our meander, too. Would visit again if in the area.

Yelp
My son and I recently ate at the Story Inn and had a terrible experience. I ordered a chicken sandwich and my son ordered a medium well hamburger. When our food arrived, both the hamburger and chicken sandwich were raw, inside. We could not locate our waiter so made another employee in the restaurant aware. She said my son wouldn't get sick eating the hamburger but I definitely would have because the chicken was raw. She said the cook was in a hurry and didn't use the thermometer. At this point we should have left. She took both of our sandwiches back and had new sandwiches prepared, which were fully cooked this time. When our waiter came back and asked how the newly prepared sandwiches were, I told him it was done this time and he gave me the thumbs up. That's all he did for our experience, no apologies. He was not concerned at all! If I would have eaten that I would have been very sick! Obviously, they just want the business and don't give a care about their customer's experience!

Yelp
If you are looking for a place off the beaten path that will make you feel like you just went back on time 50 years, this is your place. The town of Story is neat Brown County State park. It confused me at first when we typed it in and it said it was only 7 miles away but it would take us 20 minutes to get there. The road is very very curvy and you must go slow. This will be a beautiful trip to go through some very pretty hilly and wooded areas on a motorcycle or in a convertible. When we reach the location we noticed that there were some horses tied up outback. Apparently there is a trail from the back of Brown County that will take you down to the story in. They have bands outside and food on weekends with an outdoor food area. They just throw some basic things on the grill like burgers and fries. It's a pretty simple menu outside. But you can also have cocktails and sit outside. We went to the downstairs basement bar, the upstairs restaurant was closed at the time. We had a great time just sitting and looking at pictures having a drink and then walking out back through all of the gardens. The flowers were absolutely beautiful and there was art and old signage everywhere you turned. It was kind of like rewinding in time. We had to hand cut fries and wish we would've ordered two orders because they were so awesome. If you are looking for a perfectly pretty, brand new place this is not your place. I noticed in the restroom smelled a little mildewy but it was very clean. It has such character and charm, I didn't mind.

Yelp
We went to the Story Inn as part of an event for Valentine's Day. I found the event on Eventbrite. The event was a 5 course meal paired with 5 cocktails from the folks at Hotel Tango. Of course we got a room, I mean 5 cocktails! We stayed in the rumored haunted Blue Lady Room. We did not see the blue lady, darn it . Another couple went along with us on this adventure. The meal was different than the norm but I found some definite highlights. We started with an amuse-bouche that was supposed to wake up your palette that was paired with a rum cocktail. I did not care for either one of these but you can bet I did not let them go to waste! The second course was better and my second favorite of the meal. It was a gorgeous salad paired with a gin cocktail which I also enjoyed. The third course was a smoked carrot soup paired with a vodka cocktail. I had never thought of smoking carrots but by gosh it worked. The 4th and main course was a glazed duck breast paired with a bourbon cocktail. Duck for me on this course was a bit chewy but the cocktail was my favorite cocktail. The 5th course was dessert and although precariously served in an egg shell sitting in a small mason jar was the tastiest little thing. The dessert was a farm egg maple pot de creme with smoked salt and caramel foam. It was served with another excellent bourbon cocktail. Hotel Tango did not disappoint. The dinner lasted a few hours and I would happily do it again. In the morning we went downstairs to have our breakfast which was included with the price if the room. I had the gritty pig which was smoked poblano grits, pork belly, and an egg.....delish! My better half had eggs, bacon, and toast with apple butter and was very satisfied. It was fun as people learned we stayed in the haunted room the ribbing and questions we got while at the inn. We will watch for other events as I would love to see the gardens in bloom as they were outside our 2nd floor balcony.

Yelp
First, you need to know what you're getting into. Once you calibrate yourself to the rustic, vintage, historical, minimalistic experience it provides, you will enjoy it. Story Inn is located literally in the middle of nowhere. If you want secluded, I can't think of a better spot. Fortunately there are air conditioners in each room since we stayed 2 nights during a horrible heat wave. The bed is lumpy, the shower may have hot water, and there's a small refrigerator in the upstairs common area that serves multiple rooms. However, I didnt see any other guests -or staff for that matter- during our stay. There's no wifi, tv or cell phone service either - remember you're in the middle of nowhere. But you do have the possibility of being entertained by a ghost since this is considered one of the most haunted places in Indiana. I just wish the dining room was open when we visited. It's supposed to be top rated with an executive chef and master sommelier - in the middle of nowhere???

Yelp
My wife and I recently went here for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner. It's a quiet rustic place. The staff was very polite and tentative. The food is fantastic. Now that we have a 2nd home in Nashville, IN my wife and I will be surely coming back. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
To begin my experience me and my father walk down a loud flight of stairs. we get into the bar and we find and open table. it had probably Been 15 minutes and we still had not been even in contact with a server. eventually my father walks up to the bartender and ask for service. and my father explains that I'm under the age of 21. and they say we have to sit outside. normally this would not be an issue. but when we decided we were going to make the trek out here we figured we would not have to dress warmly so I was in shorts and a t shirt. it is 40 degrees outside and we wait outside for probably 15 minutes. and my father decided he's going to go the bar and get us soft drinks. so he comes back later with them so we drink our drinks while we both freeze our balls off and we wait for probably 25 minutes. and the order my father had put in for food is still not there. so he goes and ask the waiter where the food is and if it's being prepared. and she comes back 5 minutes later with the food. and the food was incredible the burger was so delicious but information still ceased to exist about how we were supposed to pay for our meal. and she said she would be back with the bill then we got our bill. and left all in all if your over the age of 21 it's great but it's been 20 minutes since we left and my hands are still numb.

Yelp
Historical, authentic and beautiful gem of Indiana. The grill is awesome with perfect burgers and excellent BBQ sauce. Good beer selection and nice folks. If you are in Brown county and want to see the real thing you owe it to yourself to go to Story.

Yelp
We went to Father's Day brunch. The food was awful. Poor quality and the hash brown potatoes and grits were cold. Our reservations were for noon. The sausage was overcooked and it seemed the sausage, ham, grits and potatoes had been sitting around for a long while. The atmosphere is charming and the service was fine. I was disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Brunch menu significantly compressed. No biscuit and gravy and out of a main choice. I'm sorry to say it is off my worth the drive list. I'm guessing I'd find as good a breakfast in Nashville

Yelp
Very pretty place. Old antique stuff everywhere that is enjoyable to look at. You have to pick the right time to come, but most likely you will enjoy it. Not much else like it.

Yelp
Wow, best meal I've had in Indiana yet - yes, even compared to b-town & Indy! I never would've known about this place if it weren't for my friends. They were more attracted to the haunted Blue Lady room, but we all left in love with the food & ambience. Story Inn doesn't look like much on the outside & at first, I thought it looked like a more minimal Cracker Barrel. As we settled in, we found Story Inn more & more charming. Once we had our amuse bouche (a lovely golden beet tartare), starters, and first pours of wine, we spent some time wandering around the grounds. Stephanie, our server, was so kind to time our entrees accordingly. The "backyard" is so picturesque! I can see why people get married here - the barn is stuff Pinterest boards are made of. I had the Fischers Farms Smoked Pork Chop (dill creme fraiche, apple fennel slaw, fried potato spaetzle) - Compared to the other dishes, the pork chop was really the star here versus having a ton of sides. The pork chop was deservedly the star though. I could taste the subtle smokiness and it was nicely seasoned. My only complaint is that I would LOVE more apple fennel slaw. I could eat that on its own. It had a tangy sweetness that reminded me of pickled cabbage. Yum. Surprisingly extensive wine list with reasonable prices! I'd recommend having a GPS in your car because getting there is fine BUT getting back is when you're in a dead zone that doesn't work for AT&T, Sprint or Verizon. Yikes! Also, I highly advise not driving by yourself at night. Although it's scenic in the daytime, at night.. it's what city gals imagine how a horror movie stars. 120/365

Yelp
Went for our anniversary dinner and what an experience!!! Dinner was delicious! Had the brisket but the other courses were amazing especially the lettuce wrapped kimishi and the clams and pasta and homemade focaccia bread! If you are looking for a truly special experience go to The Story Inn! Oh and we had a special serenade for our 38th wedding anniversary. The singer was amazing!

Yelp
This place is very cute, quaint, and unique. We checked in at the general store and were told our "Bed and Breakfast" came w a breakfast basket, but we could eat whatever was in the fridge. If we wanted to we could buy brunch in the morning for $20 a person (so $40) .We could also purchase dinner for $80 a person (so $160), or we could go out back and get brisket. Those were the only food options for dinner. There was also a comedy show for $20 a person(so $40) We brought our bags up to our room which was the "Morrison-Kelly" room. It was cute. We looked around and checked out the fridge which was yogurt, cheese, muffins and granola bars. We were hungry so we went down around back and paid $56 for dinner. I ordered a brisket plate, a brisket sandwich , a side of coleslaw,a side of Mac n cheese, plus 2 beers and left a 5buck tip. My brisket plate was about a large spoon full of meat, only mine was half fat. 2 huge, long gobs of fat with no meat on them. We didn't care for the coleslaw. Mac n cheese was ok. Came w pickles and onions. I was so hungry, since half of my dinner was inedible, I ate every pickle slice and onion on mine and my husband's plate. The bbq sauce was really good. Mine also came w a small piece of very dry cornbread, which I ate only because I was still very hungry. Felt very jypped off by dinner. The performer was great, awesome voice! We went back to eat some of the stuff in the fridge because we were still starving, then went back down and had another drink and listened to the performer. We walked the grounds, which were nice. Back by the gazebo, something touched my arm about 3 times in a row, which was kinda creepy. We each had a couple more drinks in the bar, then paid $40 for the comedy show. Seemed overpriced for what it was. Had a couple more drinks during the show. Afterwards, we went back to the fridge for more cheese and muffins. We joked about the breakfast basket being the same items from the fridge, only put into a basket. At night we fell asleep and I was awoken to something touching my leg. I laid there quietly and a minute later I felt it again. As if someone sat on the bed, then pushed on my lower leg. I woke up my husband and he turned on the light. As I was explaining what happened, he felt the same thing on his leg. He said it felt like someone sat down on the bed, then pushed on his leg. It took a while to fall back to sleep, nothing else happened after that. We woke to find that the mattress was exposed. There was no mattress protector or fitted sheet on it. The only thing between us and the mattress was a thin sheet! Disgusting. That has got to be against some kind of health code. Anyhow, we showered, dressed, and went to the common area to find no breakfast basket. We went downstairs to ask someone in the general store who had to unlock the door to speak to us. Seemed like we were interrupting her when we asked about the breakfast basket. She said it was everything in the fridge!l. All the same items we helped ourselves to already 3 times! She advised that we could spend another $40 for brunch that started in an hour. With this, we felt our stay was over. We spent a total of $353.34 for our one night stay at this bed and breakfast and still had to go out to a restaurant to have breakfast. They should not be calling it a bed and breakfast, but perhaps "Bed and Snacks". We will be back in the area, but not to Story Inn. If breakfast was included like the website said it was, we would have felt differently. I would have wrote a review in the book in our room, but could not find a pen. The kitty cat that roamed the grounds was sweet and let me pet him a couple times.

Debbie M.

Yelp
The food was extremely overpriced for what was served. 3/8 inch ribeye overcooked with two asparagus spears and a quarter cup or less of rice. Service was horrible. Took over two and half hours to eat. I would not recommend at all.

Yelp
Sunday brunch is phenomenal. The grits are fantastic. The breakfast platter is great because it lets you try both sweet and savory if you choose.

Yelp
We were excited to finally check out the Story Inn after hearing about it for many years. We were staying in the area and it was the only "fancy" dinner we had planned for the weekend. The service upon our arrival was excellent and very helpful. We were seated promptly at our reserved time. The rest of the night was hit-or-miss. The waitstaff was nice enough, but also seemed stressed and in a hurry. Surprisingly, they didn't have much knowledge about most of the wine, but kindly brought samples of things if possible, which was helpful. The main course took a long time to get to our table and when it did, it seemed like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a long while, as some of the sauce had dried to the plate. It seemed like our food had been forgotten. The lobster was overdone and the steak was very rare. My husband and I had intended to share but the lobster bothered him and the steak bothered me so we stuck to what we liked. Overall, the food was so-so and seemed extremely over-priced. We were happy with the wines we chose but with that and the 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill, the night was more expensive than we thought. It would have been helpful to have a heads-up on the added gratuity beforehand. The atmosphere was interesting. It's an interesting place and that's part of the experience. There was someone playing piano for most of our meal. It was lovely at first but then at times would be loud and frenetic. So between that and the stressed waitstaff, it was not a very relaxing time. At 9:30, the piano playing suddenly stopped and everyone else who also had been dining there all left. We paid and then were the only ones in the room, sitting in the silence to finish our dessert and wine. It was very strange. We realize that not everything can always be amazing, but for what we paid, we expected better food and a better experience.

Yelp
We come here a lot due to they dog friendly on their patio but food on the patio is always so average and very overpriced. A pulled pork sandwich, brat and a small bag of chips 32.00. Which wasn't even worth eating. Bartender could care less if you are even here. Just wish they would step up their bar food and their outside food. This isn't a review for their upscale restaurant or their room.

Yelp
My husband and I recently went on a week sans kids to Brown County. We are here twice. Once for brunch on a Sunday and then for the Pre-fix meal on a Thursday. The brunch wasn't really anything to get excited over but the drinks were amazing. Get the Long Island with cranberry. The Pre-fix meal was special. We were the only ones in the restaurant so it felt even more romantic. The restaurant decor was amazing, like being in a really good antique mall. I didn't get to look at everything there were so many cool details. The town's history is even more thrilling, ask the server. Get the wine recommended with each course. Everything was freshly prepared from the gardens. Take a walk around the gardens and the property.

Yelp
Let me start by saying the staff was very friendly and hospitable. We needed to request an early check in and the response was that they'd make it work as we were their guests. I loved that response! As far as the room and atmosphere... I have to echo a previous reviewer when she said you have to go in knowing where you're staying. It is a very remote and rustic place to stay. You literally are in the middle of no where. The "town" had a lot of cool looking buildings and we saw people riding horses on the property. It really did feel like we stepped back in time. We stayed in the Schultz Haus front room. The outside had a porch swing and a nice grass area for our dog to roam around. The room was very spacious. The bed sheets and bathroom were both very clean. We loved the certificate of authenticity that was posted re: it being a historical location. The room, however, did have a musty smell and the couch was very old and tattered. The furniture has an antique and eclectic feel. There was a full-size fridge/freezer and microwave. The fridge was dirty and needed to be cleaned. The room is very close to the "general store"/ registration area, so we were able to have an internet connection. Be mindful that there is no television, radio, nor digital clocks/ docking stations. We didn't eat at the restaurant, although we heard it was delicious. We opted to venture out to Hard Truth Distillery, which I highly recommend. Hard Truth is about 20 min. from the Inn. I'm not sure we'd return for another stay. It really is kind of one of those "been there, done that" kind of places. If you're into history and such, this is the place for you. If you're a modern and techy traveler, this place is not for you.

We went as a group of 10... we arrived on time, took about 15-20 min to get seated even though it wasn't packed. The place is super eclectic, very cool setting. The service started off good but slowly became non existent... the food was unanimously not great... we ordered a lot of different items, it's a price fixe menu...if it were a lot cheaper it would be ok, but it's expensive and didn't live up to the hype. If you go eat outside on the back patio, it looked better and was a bargain comparatively.

Yelp
We have been here about 10 years ago and came back with 2 couples and we're telling them how great this place was. How disappointing. The food was definitely not what it used to be and smaller portions, and the pricing insanely expensive. The liquid/fluid in the lamps was overwhelming. There was nobody except for another couple having dinner. However, when I called and asked if it was okay that we're gone be late the person put me on a 3 minute hold and had to confirm if it would be okay. The bill for 6 people and I had the vegetarian dish (so how much can you mark up a squash, a billion times?) the bill was $912.00. Never again! Beware!!!! No pricing on the menu mind you nothing was out of this world good it was very basic and small, the mug at their shop was $36.00. Don't waste your money. To add, mind you we live in downtown Chicago. we go to very nice restaurants. We pay premium money for dinner at nice restaurants and know quality when we see it and this was definitely not it.

Yelp
If you ever feel like you need to get away for the weekend then The Story Inn is the place for you. We visited and spent the night for a wedding recently and we had a great time and are making plans of coming back soon. It is just short drive outside of Nashville, Indiana and seems to be in the middle of nowhere (*Note: there is no reception on the grounds except for the restaurant.) Its very rustic and peaceful. Everything you need for a weekend away if needed. The wedding we attended was held in the wedding barn in the back and was a perfect setting to a Summer wedding in Indiana. We spent the night in the Wheeler Homestead Back Cottage. The two-room cottage includes one queen bed in each private bedroom, living room with a love seat, a mini fridge, coffee-maker, microwave, bathroom with a claw foot tub, and a private deck. I also learned that it was named after the original owner of the general Store, Alra Wheeler. The cottage was cozy and the claw foot tub was my absolute favorite! There is also The Blue Lady room that you can stay in which is supposed to be haunted. I am definitely not brave enough for that room :). The following morning we had the most delicious brunch before we headed home. I ordered the Eggs and toast with bacon, home fries and added pancakes to it. It was fresh and absolutely delicious. Service was great and the staff was friendly and professional. I will definitely recommend this place and will come back!

Yelp
I thought it was a mirage when we stumbled on this place. We didn't eat but had cocktails and toured the property. This place is now on my bucket list to spend the night.

Yelp
The food is so good & the bartender was so fun!! She was very attentive even though the bar was busy. I love the ambiance inside the bar at Story Inn.

Yelp
This is a review based on our 1 night stay and brunch experience. Firstly; Story, Indiana is essentially Story Inn. There is a general store/restaurant for checking in, but most of the lodging is in refurbished historical houses (cabins?) within walking distance of the general store. This is very pet friendly (there are specific rooms for guests with pets, so specify when booking if that is a concern). Dogs are allowed to walk on leashes throughout the property and the bar in the basement of the general store. My understanding is that you can also rent stable space if you want to bring your horse(s). We only spent one night (check-in at 4pm). However, since this is in Brown County, there are trails for biking and horseback riding. Motorcyclists will enjoy driving around Brown County, and guests will be about a 20 min drive to both the Nashville touristy sites and Brown County State Park. Your only food choices in Story are the general store restaurant (a little on the pricey side) and the bar in the basement. Otherwise, add in 20+ min to other restaurants. That said... overnight guests get a ticket for one entree (includes drinks + refills) for the restaurants Brunch. Highly recommend the jamcakes! Service was great too! To summarize, this is a great place a little secluded from the tourist bustle of Nashville that offers you and your pets some fun things to see!

Yelp
Been to Story, Indiana many times. Finally spent the night after a concert at the Brown Co. Music Center. It was a Wednesday night and the bar and restaurant were closed so we had to fend for ourselves. The limited staff was very cordial and gave us our room key and basically full use of the property. Our room was Clean and comfortable with cold air conditioning on a very hot and humid night. Don't expect a 5 Star Hotel. Just the drive alone in this part of southern Indiana is a challenge. No TV's, no internet, limited phone service! That being said, I had one helluva good time! We will return.

Yelp
I brought my mom here for Mothers Day because they were one of the few places I was able to schedule a reservation south of Indy. First off, Story Inn is like the cutest hidden treasure ever! If you have not visited the area please make a day trip down there. The restaurant is decorated in a true fashion of wanting to keep it its original vision alive. Old-timey, lots of knickknacks and farming items throughout the area. Super cute for the nostalgic crowd! The food was pretty good! I got a pork belly hash with a spicy Korean hot sauce on it. I requested my eggs to be cooked over medium and I got over hard, basically fried eggs so that was a bummer because I bet the runny yolk would have made this dish even better. Everyone at the table liked the food they received and the coffee was really good! CHEERS!

Yelp
Really neat stop truly in the middle of nowhere in Brown County! The dining experience in recent years is very different compared to previous years. The restaurant menu is quite high end now and extremely expensive, but for a special occasion it's ok. Especially their candlelit or holiday dining menus. I just don't think many of the locals can constitute the restaurant price/trek out there against some other dining options in the area. Our food was good, but unfortunately nothing I would pay that price for again. The restaurant pricing is what knocks this review down a star. They have a bar downstairs with more casual options and a grill outside that's open sometimes. I've tried both on different visits. They have live music and events here quite often and of course their unique haunted history. The dining and bar service has always been good, I just wish the main restaurant menu had some more pricing/flexibility for those who don't want to do the prix fixe. Great destination for a motorcycle ride though!

Yelp
This place is a unique getaway and is very much removed from the city. It is situated in a quiet setting and has welcomed many visitors. Expect a lengthy drive on winding roads. Avoid traveling at night; it gets super dark, especially since this place is in the middle of nowhere. Staff are friendly and the Inn also has a haunting--the Blue Lady. While the Story Inn has character, I am wary of the food. I had the worst food poisoning of my life here and I'm pretty sure it's from the vegetables. I immediately felt horrible after eating them and it took me about a week to recover from the nasty bout of food poisoning.

Yelp
The Sunday brunch was so good! Our cabin was clean and nicely stocked. The staff forgot to give us enough towels and they didn't mind running them right over.

Yelp
Don't bother heating up a burger and serving it for $22 if. you don't feel like cooking for guesRS who show up in the mid afternoon. Just be closed.

Yelp
We had such high hopes for this place as I had heard positive reviews. So we set up the reservation and I even called a few days before and spoke with Rich and let him know that we would be bringing our granddaughters. I knew that it was to be 6 courses and we were looking forward to the full experience. We arrived early as was suggested by Rich when I called to confirm our reservation. It is a beautiful little "town" and on a busy summer night there is were several other events going on. However, at The dining room no one was around and when we finally found someone who worked there it seemed as if they had no idea what we were there for at all. There were only 10 guests in the dining room including our 4 and yet there was only 1 waiter and he just never had control of the dining room that night at all. The food is not worth the $100 per person price and they seem to be trying too hard to provide a farm to table experience for the few that take the bait and come to dinner. There was nothing extraordinary about what was served and it was such a slow night clocking in at 2.5 hours until we reached the end and the courses felt more like an abbreviated tasting menu, rather than a chef driven premiere experience that was promoted. Dial it back and make a solid menu that is more relatable and if you insist on the 2.5 hour dining schedule then you need to entertain your guests and make it special, not make us feel Like we are a burden or an afterthought in your dining room.

Yelp
Our first visit (of many) to this elegantly rustic inn. From the easy drive, easy parking and extremely short walk to the entrance we savored every moment. To be clear, it was date night and this is an absolute must visit again. We entered and were greeted with a friendly smile and offer to look around or be seated. It was like we were instantly family, incredible. Next, Matt (our amazing server) came to us promptly and walked us through the menu. Exquisite cuisine is an understatement. Each of the courses was something to gush about. Every piece of every dish was made and plated with care. I chose the pairing (and recommended you do too) with each of the courses. I'm a slow drinker, but they went at our pace. We ended with a quiet walk and slow drive home. What an evening!

Yelp
Stayed one night. Had dinner the first night, drinks from the tavern, and lunch the next day. What a getaway. This little gem and the weekend it provided is exactly what I needed. 1-1.5 hours from Indianapolis, tucked away on a windy road in the hills on the Western edge of Brown County State Park. I want to see top notch getaway destinations close to Indianapolis continue to succeed so please support! Dinner: 5 course. Elevated dining even more so than the last time I was there. The chef Dan Thomas did a great job incorporating seasonal produce grown from their garden including peas, beets, and strawberries. Scallops were great and topped with salmon cavier. Evening: walked around the grounds, got drinks from the tavern, sat by the campfire with other guests and Story Inn team. I noticed Dan was smoking pork for the next day's lunch. Lunch: great smoked pulled pork sandwich. Highly recommend. Great venue for small to medium sized weddings as well.

Yelp
The Thanksgiving dinner 2021was not eatable. The prime rib was prepared in a crock pot and was so fatty we did not eat it The dishes and food smelled like someone was smoking in the kitchen. The green bean casserole was mush and disgusting, the sweet potatoes were directly out of the a can, there was a quarter size dollop of cranberry dressing--too small to even critique, The dinner roll was hard and impossible to butter or eat, the dressing was pure salt and the gravy on the potato was barely a glaze. the pies were store bought and ok. We left without eating. I was embarrassed to bring my family for this $50 a plate disaster!! The wine list is excellent. Rate it 5 stars.

Yelp
Off the charts ,Wow this was amazing. The building is old which gives it a romantic setting, the food is like something you would get at a high dollar restaurant in New York, the service was great, we were lucky enough to have Matt (the wine guy) take care of us. He's super knowledgeable about wines and paring. It's expensive but worth every dollar. We will definitely be back. If I could give 10 stars I would it was that good.
