What follows is an honest review of our 2 week experience from travellers who have travelled all over the world, visited several continents and countries and stayed in MANY 5 star hotels .|I gave the hotel the opportunity to rectify the issues we experienced as I don’t believe in saying nothing whilst in resort then returning home and posting a poor review.|The hotel itself is a beautiful resort located in an equally beautiful area on Beau Vallon beach - if that was matched with consistent 5 star service it would be the absolute perfect holiday. The resort is looking a little “ tired” though - enamel coming off all the bathroom fittings, rust around the bath plug & scratches in the bath. Pool sun beds not the most comfortable.|Firstly, there were occasions where service was good and some staff have the ability to deliver & go above & beyond. Special mentions to Neige on reception ( thank you so much for the calamine lotion - a godsend because we both got bitten to bits ! ) but generally you are a gem . Also to Hemma ( duty manager & spa manager) who listened to our concerns and was sympathetic, agreeing that the hotel had fallen short of 5 star service. She did all she could to improve the situation and followed up with us . To Sathian in the pool cabana - very happy always and helpful always (unlike a couple of other rather surly members of staff there)- you always had a smile.|The inconsistencies to which I refer are largely related to the lamentable housekeeping service. All was well for the first 3 days but then it became the norm to find, each time we returned to our room, missing towels, missing shower mat, missing face flannels, missing coffee, missing coffee creamer. It became a real chore to have to phone to ask for something that was missing each time our room was serviced. The last straw came when we were given 2 scratchy rough hand towels with holes in them ! On showing these to Hemma, when we complained, she was quite incredulous & shocked ! In what 5 star hotel ( charging 5 star prices) in what part of the world are you expected to use towels with holes in them !?|After complaining to Hemma we finally received an apology ( no apologies forthcoming from any staff member until this point) and things improved immeasurably— for 2 DAYS (!) and the appalling housekeeping service then resumed. Another complaint to another duty manager ( Freddy I think ) resulted in further apology but we only had 2 more days left at this point.|The hotel did offer us a meal as compensation which was gratefully received but really the experience did spoil the enjoyment of our holiday. They know what is expected of them but the training just doesn’t seem to get through to those at service level. It’s not rocket science- you are supposedly a 5 star hotel and you certainly charge 5 star prices.|Similar experience to previous reviews at breakfast time with the pigeons all over empty tables - not great when you’re right next to them trying to enjoy your breakfast ! Patchy service here too - service training sadly lacking again.|Apart from Vasco’s at breakfast, the restaurants in the hotel generally serve very good food. We ate at Trader Vic’s , Eden ( our favourite) and Seyshima . They are all very highly priced and we also ate out at some restaurants locally - marginally cheaper but excellent if you choose carefully ( La Perla Noire & Mahek Indian notable).|The spa experience is nice and I had a good masseur ( from the Middle East - Behar I think but forgive me if I got your name wrong ). A nice ambience.|The pool is beautiful too. 25m - great for keeping up your lengths if you’re a swimmer !|In summary, we travelled a long way for a special holiday ( it is our 25th wedding anniversary year - congratulations given by the hotel twice but a couple of complimentary glasses of something would have been nice ) and were hoping for a seamless 5 star hotel experience which sadly didn’t happen. The Seychelles are beautiful islands but if you’re thinking of spending a lot of your hard earned holiday money coming here, think carefully before choosing your hotel - it’s a big part of your holiday and you want it to be a great experience which, unfortunately for us, this wasn’t.
