Jack Reynor's Seychelles Photo Diary

"I stayed at the H Resort in the beach area of Beau Vallon — a stunning resort with several restaurants, an idyllic spa, and secluded villas with private swimming pools and lounging areas. I had the pleasure of dining at two of the resort's restaurants. Once at Seyshima, an open-air teppanyaki restaurant with exquisite fresh seafood. And then at Trader Vic’s, where I was impressed with the fusion cuisine and cocktails." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We had an amazing stay. The staff for so kind and helpful. We got married during our stay there and we got a complimentary room upgrade, decorated room, cake and sparkling wine. They really went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Room was nice, spacious and clean. Food was very good. Each night for dinner there was a grill station with freshly grilled meat and fish. The pool area is really nice, pool is big and there is always a free sun-bed and beach is literally few steps away. Two whole feeling in the resort is so calming as you are surrounded by nature. Definitely recommend it!

Beautiful hotel surrounded by lush gardens and right onto Beau Vallon beach - amazing sunsets! Large, comfortable room with everything we needed. The main restaurant for breakfast and dinner is buffet style with lots of choices to suit all, and food was excellent. |Pool area was gorgeous, lots of beds available with or without shade. |Staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Would love to return.

Excellent property on the beach. The suites and villas are spacious with private balcony/garden/pool (depending on which type of room you choose). The beach is a short 3 min walk from any room. The gym is open 24 hours. There are several restaurant options and the dinner buffet spread is great. Typically, dessert options in all the restaurants are excellent!|The hotel offers a complimentary Snorkeling facility, guided by IRA. Ira was an excellent Snorkeling guide for us taking special care of us and showing us Turtles, Lion fish, Moray Eel, Zebra eel, Puffer fish and a lot more. She even ensured that we get some of the pics and videos taken during the Snorkeling trips. Waven, the lifeguard at the pool, was also very helpful during Snorkeling. |Neige at the hotel reception was very nice. She was there during our checkin and ensured that all processes are done smoothly. She also helped us with a complimentary late checkout on the day of departure.

Lovely hotel on arguably the best beach in the Seychelles. Reasonably good choice at breakfast with international food as well as a Creole corner where you could have fish or chicken curry for breakfast. There was also an egg station for freshly cooked-to-order options. We tried a couple of the other restaurants which were also very good. The cocktails at Trader Vics were very good! Our room was spacious and clean with views overlooking the gardens. The pool area was very nice though I think the hotel needs to upgrade its loungers now - they're looking a bit shabby. The beach area directly in front of the hotel was nice and the sea was lovely to swim in. The team the Story were all very pleasant and friendly. Don't forget the happy hour in the main bar! The gym was small but there was enough equipment to get a good work-out in. There are a handful of good beach bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. Not all have wifi though, so if you like to catch up on your socials while you're out and about be warned. We went for a day trip to Victoria one day - don't bother, nothing to see or do! Moyenne Island was worth a trip though. There is also a little supermarket near the hotel so you can get a few local beers and wines in for your room. I would recommend this hotel.

I chose Story hotel for my birthday celebration after viewing its website and seeing some of the reviews from previous guests. And it did not disappoint. My family and friends had an amazing six day trip in a gorgeous setting. From the start of the planning last year, the hotel staff were very helpful. Once she took over from Sheryl, Dorothy Julie provided such tremendous support to me, before and during my events, as if she was a family friend.  Her kindness and dedication made my celebration that more special. My birthday dinner was beautifully executed and so much fun. | |Neige, in reception was also very helpful, and flexible, assisting with guest services and other comfort requests where necessary. Although there were a few hiccups along the way, all the hotel staff were very supportive. I appreciated the upgrade to the beach villa halfway through my stay, and the housekeeping staff were super-efficient and attentive. The special touches of complimentary fruit and snack platters along with beverages were so thoughtful. | |Highlights of our trip included a city tour including exploring downtown Victoria and the craft village. We had a wonderful boat trip to Moyenne island, courtesy of Ocean Bird Boat Charter services, and were taken care of by Wanita and her team. The boat guides were very helpful and knowledgeable about every aspect of the marine park. | |Even if we had not gone out of this well maintained and run hotel, it would have been an amazing experience with beautiful and peaceful surroundings, a fantastic pool, serene spa (Sesel Spa), easy access to Beau Vallon beach, delicious food (Trader Vic’s and Seyshima restaurant) and lovely welcoming staff. | |Will definitely be back to create more stories at Story.

Our Stay at The Story Hotel Seychelles. Jun 2025 • Our stay at The Story has been wonderful and we cannot fault the service, the people, the staff and every person has been helpful and supportive. It has been a wonderful and rewarding and fulfilling stay at the Story. An excellent hotel with brilliant and exceptional service. During our stay we have been served and looked after by Natasha from In Room Dining in person. She has been in touch with us daily to ensure that all our needs and desires were addressed and fulfilled. She and all her colleagues have been excellent with their service. Always very helpful and courteous and friendly. A wonderful stay at the Story Hotel

What follows is an honest review of our 2 week experience from travellers who have travelled all over the world, visited several continents and countries and stayed in MANY 5 star hotels .|I gave the hotel the opportunity to rectify the issues we experienced as I don’t believe in saying nothing whilst in resort then returning home and posting a poor review.|The hotel itself is a beautiful resort located in an equally beautiful area on Beau Vallon beach - if that was matched with consistent 5 star service it would be the absolute perfect holiday. The resort is looking a little “ tired” though - enamel coming off all the bathroom fittings, rust around the bath plug & scratches in the bath. Pool sun beds not the most comfortable.|Firstly, there were occasions where service was good and some staff have the ability to deliver & go above & beyond. Special mentions to Neige on reception ( thank you so much for the calamine lotion - a godsend because we both got bitten to bits ! ) but generally you are a gem . Also to Hemma ( duty manager & spa manager) who listened to our concerns and was sympathetic, agreeing that the hotel had fallen short of 5 star service. She did all she could to improve the situation and followed up with us . To Sathian in the pool cabana - very happy always and helpful always (unlike a couple of other rather surly members of staff there)- you always had a smile.|The inconsistencies to which I refer are largely related to the lamentable housekeeping service. All was well for the first 3 days but then it became the norm to find, each time we returned to our room, missing towels, missing shower mat, missing face flannels, missing coffee, missing coffee creamer. It became a real chore to have to phone to ask for something that was missing each time our room was serviced. The last straw came when we were given 2 scratchy rough hand towels with holes in them ! On showing these to Hemma, when we complained, she was quite incredulous & shocked ! In what 5 star hotel ( charging 5 star prices) in what part of the world are you expected to use towels with holes in them !?|After complaining to Hemma we finally received an apology ( no apologies forthcoming from any staff member until this point) and things improved immeasurably— for 2 DAYS (!) and the appalling housekeeping service then resumed. Another complaint to another duty manager ( Freddy I think ) resulted in further apology but we only had 2 more days left at this point.|The hotel did offer us a meal as compensation which was gratefully received but really the experience did spoil the enjoyment of our holiday. They know what is expected of them but the training just doesn’t seem to get through to those at service level. It’s not rocket science- you are supposedly a 5 star hotel and you certainly charge 5 star prices.|Similar experience to previous reviews at breakfast time with the pigeons all over empty tables - not great when you’re right next to them trying to enjoy your breakfast ! Patchy service here too - service training sadly lacking again.|Apart from Vasco’s at breakfast, the restaurants in the hotel generally serve very good food. We ate at Trader Vic’s , Eden ( our favourite) and Seyshima . They are all very highly priced and we also ate out at some restaurants locally - marginally cheaper but excellent if you choose carefully ( La Perla Noire & Mahek Indian notable).|The spa experience is nice and I had a good masseur ( from the Middle East - Behar I think but forgive me if I got your name wrong ). A nice ambience.|The pool is beautiful too. 25m - great for keeping up your lengths if you’re a swimmer !|In summary, we travelled a long way for a special holiday ( it is our 25th wedding anniversary year - congratulations given by the hotel twice but a couple of complimentary glasses of something would have been nice ) and were hoping for a seamless 5 star hotel experience which sadly didn’t happen. The Seychelles are beautiful islands but if you’re thinking of spending a lot of your hard earned holiday money coming here, think carefully before choosing your hotel - it’s a big part of your holiday and you want it to be a great experience which, unfortunately for us, this wasn’t.
