Chennai’s best walking tours for street food, movies and history - SilverKris

"Offers a variety of themed guided walks that bring the city’s history and heritage to life — from a Jewellery Trail where visitors watch gems being set and learn about maharajas’ jewels and their symbolism, to the Steeple Chase that uncovers the area’s Christian heritage starting with the arrival of Saint Thomas in 52 AD, and Stories on the Run, a seaside running trail that combines exercise with anecdotes about the British Raj." - SilverKris

Lakshmi was our tour guide for the Peacock Trail in Mylapore. She provided fantastic insight into the history of the area, fascinating details of the temple’s history and present day use. Would highly recommend this company. Information was well researched and given in a fun, understandable manner.

We had an incredible experience with Lakshmi Shankar. She took us to flower and vegetable markets and she told us about the wonderful history in this area. Highly recommend her.

I joined the food trail with my family. I was anxious that It was the first chance for my 2 kids (6 and 8 years) to participate in a tour program that could be too informative for them to be bored. But lakshmi, the story-teller of the program, helped my kids enjoy the moments to taste indian cousine with her own expertise to derive interests of kids. More than half of the foods that she introduced were special version of indian delights or desserts supposedly due to her circumspect arrangement for my kids (kids tend not to deny anything sweet expecially in a milky way). Coincidentally microphones that helped us listen to the voice of Lashmi in cacophony from the chaotic marketplace effectively mesmerized my kids not to be lost physically in the maze-like marketplace and figuratively in the sequence of historical strories. We were relieved to see my children willingly and attentively focus on the program.

Did the Peacock tour in Chennai today with Sridharan, which was excellent. Great stories told by a great storyteller. I learned a lot, got a lot of my questions answered, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very informative but also fun and relaxed. Sridharan was a pleasure to spend the time with.

I've done 3 tours already with Lakshmi in Chennai and all of them were amazing! She's so warm-hearted, protective of her guests and tells all the stories beautifully. It's not just any guided tour - it's a deep dive into Indian culture and traditions and one of the best things you can do, when visiting Chennai or any other city where they offer tours. Thank you for everything and the amazing memories!

I had the privilege of a tour through the wholesale food and flower bazaars and backstreets with the amazing Lakshmi last evening. I thought myself well read but I learned so much more about South Indian food culture, myths and legends in the company of this enchanting and knowledgeable story teller. A must do experience

If only we could give 6 stars! Unforgettable experience. We did 3 fantastic story trails with Lakshmi who was our guide - the Peacock Trail (fascinating), the Food Trail (sooo delicious) and the Spice Trail (cooking class with Lakshmi and a fantastic cook cutely named Baby - once again so delicious). As soon as we met Lakshmi, we instantly liked her. Lakshmi is an amazing story teller. She has a kind heart, she’s very knowledgeable and will turn any artefact, dish, or ritual into an amazing (true) story. Like in the famous The Thousand and One Nights novel, you just cannot stop listening to her and asking her many questions. In just two days we learnt so much about South India, its peoples, traditions, foods, religions, rituals and so much more. Lakshmi speaks a beautiful and elaborated English. Her enthusiasm and friendliness come across at every instant. A must do if you’re in Chennai! I can’t recommend Storytrails enough.

We went on the Peacock trail with Lakshmi on a warm Sunday morning. Lakshmi greeted us with a big smile, and we instantly liked her. She told us so many facts and stories about Mylapore, the temple, gods, history and traditions. We ended the tour in a local restaurant having traditional north Indian dishes. It is definitely not our last tour with Lakshmi 😊🙏
