Stow House, Aysgarth, Yorkshire Dales, England - Explore & Book

"Built for the Reverend Stow in 1876, this grand house sits on the edge of a neat Wensleydale village. He was a keen photographer, and his pictures on the wall of the breakfast room give a glimpse into local life all those years ago. Step next door into the sitting room and you’ll spy raunchy pop-art style prints and a giant papier-mâché hare mounting the wall - quite the step change. But it’s the carefully curated mix of old and new (and bizarre) that we loved about this place.Warm and welcoming owners Sarah and Phil left creative careers in London to buy Stow House, and after an extensive refurb have transformed it into a stunning home-from-home with seven spacious and perfectly styled rooms, free-standing tubs, bold velvet sofas, and a great collection of objets d’art - many donated by their creative friends. Breakfasts by Phil are truly delicious, and there’s beauty at every turn: glance through any of the windows and you’ll see green rolling hills beyond the vast garden; walk a few minutes down the road and you’ll come to tumbling Aysgarth Falls. Highs The chilled atmosphere created by warm and friendly hosts; it’s like staying with friendsA fun and eclectic mix of art (a badger in a gas mask!?) offset by beautifully thought-through interiorsOur bathroom was huge, with a gorgeous free-standing tub and a rainshower easily big enough for twoSarah's cocktails (the lethal Corpse Reviver packs a serious punch)Perfect for romantics, creatives and lovers of the great outdoors - plus it's extremely dog-friendly Lows No evening meals, and we weren't overly impressed with the food at the local pub, but there are other good restaurants a short drive awayNo twin roomsYou’ll have to drive out if you want other nightlife, but we loved kicking back and relaxing into the rural pace of lifeOnly 1 room is suitable for families" - Anna Mullinder

My wife and I stayed at Stow House in Aygarth, Yorkshire for a three night stay and our only regret was that we didn't stay longer. The host (Sarah) made us feel very welcome and the house is designed to make guests feel at home. Stow House is a cut above any bed and breakfast I have ever used. The breakfast choice was good and the food was local produce and well prepared. ||There is a lovely sitting room with a well stocked honesty bar. There is another room with an extensive library with books to suit all tastes and like the sitting room, this is comfortably furnished. The gardens offer a peaceful and beautiful place to walk or sit and the views are stunning. ||While Stow House doesn't do evening meals, there are local pubs that serve food close by. ||We had a lovely stay and we are planning a return visit in the near future.

We don't usually leave reviews, but decided that our two night stay at Stow House merited one. From the moment we arrived too the warm welcome, we felt at home. The room 'Like Wow Man' was very spacious with a luxurious bathroom. The cocktail hour was an excellent addition and the availability of an honesty bar. The breakfast was excellent with pre ordering the night before ensuring breakfast was efficiently and timely delivered.

Stow House is in a perfect spot in Aysgarth in the Yorkshire Dales, just a stone's throw from the falls and some fantastic walks. The house itself is beautiful, full of character, unique decor, and interesting artwork, with every space immaculately clean and thoughtfully decorated. The hosts couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly, and helpful. It was wonderfully peaceful and the breakfasts were delicious. Top marks all round - highly recommended!

What a fantastic place to stay, we arrived wet & cold and was offered a fresh pot of tea - perfect. The 6pm cocktail hour was a bonus, I enjoyed a perfect Margarita. The room were clean, beautifully decorated, spacious and airy. I loved the art, the walls and rooms were covered with an eclectic mix of pictures, pieces and furniture. I would not hesitate to recommend and will certainly stay again.

A beautiful period property set in glorious countryside near Aysgarth Falls. Sarah and the resident friendly hound gave us a warm welcome . The ground floor room was very quiet , clean and good value . Excellent breakfasts with high quality produce set us up for our days walking. Special mention for the very delicious home- made granola and bread. |Lots of very good places to eat nearby but best to avoid the Aysgarth Falls hotel restaurant( decent food but very much lacking in ambience) although the bar was fine.

A wonderful stay from start to finish. The rooms are beautiful, very stylish and so well considered. The breakfast is wonderful , make sure you try the granola! A beautiful location with some stunning scenery within walking distance. It was in equal part relaxing and invigorating and I honestly could have stayed another week. We thank you for a lovely stay.
