Stracta Hotel

The location is lovely and the hotel is good. There are some neat design features like the aurora corridor, which was cozy and would be good for looking at the night sky but they had lights on all night. The staff were very kind, and able to answer questions. They even offer aurora wake up calls.

The hotel is perfectly located, walking distance from the public bus stop. They have excellent amenities to keep you involved if it's bad weather outside. Almost never bad weather to enjoy the hot tub and sauna. Food is good, beers are amazing only two options though. Staff is friendly and nice. Enjoyed my 3 night stay here. Thanks

We stayed here while on a tour of Southern Iceland, and were very pleased. The family apartment was warm, clean and the private hot tub perfect for relaxing after a long day. Beds were comfortable and the kitchenette facilities good for self-catering if required, although the hotel restaurant and bar were good.|The bar staff got a little overwhelmed during a busy evening period, and it seemed odd that you can't reserve a table. The only room complaint was that sound does travel a bit between rooms, but our did seem to be moving furniture constantly so it may have just been them.

Awful place! Don’t be fooled by the photos of a nice hotel frontage as the majority of rooms are in the chicken shacks behind it. We arrived as a party of 20 on a coach tour to stay here for 2 nights. Upon arrival our Tour Manager handed out our room keys and we were directed to the huts in the 700’s which are accessed by going outside and sliding along on the slippery ice towing suitcases etc. Didn’t expect to have to access our rooms from outside in December! We all immediately went back to Reception which is where the “a la carte” is situated. It was like a circus with diners queuing around empty platters as they’d run out of food. We were told we couldn’t dine as there was no availability - unbelievable as hotel guests that we couldn’t get a meal. There was a Christmas party upstairs so the buffet was not available. Staff couldn’t care less about us & said perhaps we should try somewhere else! Read my review on Kanslarrin Restaurant who came to our rescue and we highly recommend - much less expensive than Stracta for food & only just across the road. With regards the Christmas party - they were given robes & towels by Receptionist and crowded out the hot tubs, so we as paying guests couldn’t even use them. The only reason I’ve awarded 2 stars is because at breakfast they use proper teabags and the bacon was OK. Would not recommend.

This really was a lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and even offered a service to call you on your room phone if the Northern Lights made an appearance. A service that I was happy to have for my second sighting of the lights. My room was very comfortable and quite spacious with a nice bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities available. The buffet breakfast was excellent and the restaurant offered a good range of options.

Rooms themselves were pretty decent and comfortable. Breakfast had good variety, and we had a nice hearty meal to start our day. The hot tub is only warm and not very hot as we expected. There’s also no indication of where we can store our clothes after changing out. It was also full of beer cans and wine glasses so it wasn’t very appealing to enter. The northern lights corridor was confusing. It is so bright that you can’t even see the northern lights! All you see is your own reflection. Nothing spectacular about this feature! Do note the corridors are relatively long, so make sure you have everything before going from the lobby to your room!

We loved our two nights here! It’s in a great location off the Ring Road and very cozy and clean. Helpful staff and great amenities: comp breakfast, hot tub/sauna, northern lights wake up call. The bistro in the hotel was also delicious. Definitely recommend!

Overall a wonderful place to stay. White disappointed that both hot tubes and one sauna (out of 2) were broken so we couldn’t really enjoy them. But the corridor of glass to see the northern lights was an amazing little place and cozy to sit in
