"Fairy-Tale Library & Panoramic Views One of the most spectacular libraries in the world is at the Strahov Monastery in Prague . While it is a bit off the beaten path for most tourists, it really is a must-see. Over 125,000 classic and rare books fill floor-to-ceiling bookshelves at the monastery, which sits on a hill. There are two halls. The Theological Hall dates from the 1600s and features ornate, 18th-century Baroque frescoes on the ceiling. The Philosophical Hall (pictured) is truly spectacular - an 18th century creation built in the Classic style that features Greek frescoes and opulently carved wooden bookcases with golden accents. On the grounds of the monastery are also The Church of Saint Roch, an art gallery and a brewery with the best sweeping views of Prague - truly a wonderful, enchanting way to spend a beautiful afternoon."

Take a nice slow walk uphill to the monastery and you will be well rewarded with a nice view of the city, Prague castle along the way. Do visit the library and brewery (food is yummy and the beers.. lets say it's truly anti depressant) to complete the experience.

"Strahov Monastery: A hidden gem of Prague" Strahov Monastery, founded in 1143, is more than a religious site—it’s a journey through time and culture. Its famous library is not only one of the oldest in Europe but also a visual masterpiece. The Philosophical Hall features 18th-century carved wooden shelves, while the Theological Hall, with its frescoed ceiling, is a tribute to knowledge and faith. Here’s a curious fact: the book collection includes a volume bound in human skin, adding an air of mystery to the site. The monastery also houses a cabinet of curiosities with artifacts like taxidermy animals and historical maps. From the monastery gardens, the views over Prague are breathtaking, especially at sunset. A place that perfectly combines history, art, and unforgettable scenery.

The monastery is worth a visit. You get to visit areas of the monastery, the library, the gardens, and the church. Tickets can be purchased from the white church at the main gate. I went two hours before closing, and there was no queue. I was told that it gets very busy during the day, so it would be better to pre-purchase at these times. You can purchase an internal tour of the library, which is expensive and sells out quickly; tickets for the library and monastery, or a ticket that includes the exhibition. They accept cash or cards, and you can choose whether to pay in CZK, EUR, or USD. The main reason to visit is the library, which has been reviewed separately. However, the monastery grounds are a nice add-on and worth a wander around. There are toilets in the courtyard. These cost 20 CZK to use, and only cash is accepted. The toilets were clean, but the attendant was badly mannered. There is a restaurant and a very nice souvenir shop. The cashier lady was very good, dealing with the purchases efficiently and making you feel welcomed. There is slso a miniature museum on the grounds, but this cost extra, so I did not bother. The monastery is only partially accessible for people who use a wheelchair or have mobility difficulties. The library is not accessible as there are three flights of stairs, though there are plans to install a lift. The Chapter Hall, Romanesque Halls, Summer, and Winter Refectory are accessible. The gallery is accessible if you contact the promotions staff prior to arriving to arrange access to the lift. There are disability accessible toilets in the courtyard. You may be able to park directly in the monastery if you have a disability. You need to contact the promotions staff who will advise whether it is possible that day.

Amazing complex of church, classic religious art installation , brewery, and restaurant. Everything is presented with reverence for the history, and the libraries are especially beautiful. Better signs are necessary for visitors to find their way to the exits - a group of us were yelled at very rudely because we couldn't find the way out of the art exhibit. Food and beer are excellent as well. Don't miss the nice view over Prague from a garden path to one side of the monastery!

You can’t even enter with a ticket. Do not waste your money or time. We arrived and decided to only visit the library as it was close to closing time. Expecting great things for 4 people and 560ck/£18 (the most we paid in to anywhere so far in the city!) we were incredibly disappointed to find you can’t actually even go in to the library!!! You have to pack with a tonne of other tourists at a half door barrier and peek in?!!! Honestly it was awful. Worst experience ever. Please don’t waste your money. You have access to this entryway (photo attached of the crowd at it and the empty library beyond) and a corridor of weird dark cabinets with everything from preserved animals and pine cones to tusks and globes. No explanations or lights and a poor child got shouted at for barely leaning on one of the cabinets.

Located near the Castle, and behind the park. You can either get tickets for the upper level or for the upper and lower ones. The beautiful art work is located in the lower ones so suggest getting that. The library is astounding.

Rather disappointing. Not really worth paying for tickets. You can’t even enter the library it’s just for observation from distance. It’s beautiful but I wouldn’t prioritise this… the gallery is quite small.

We check out the Strahov Monastery. What a fantastic place. It's very beautiful and spiritually sensational.  We just happened to be there when the choir was doing a free concert.  The singing gave We then walked down to old town and grabbed some food before finishing our journey back to our hotel.
