"Fairy-Tale Library & Panoramic Views One of the most spectacular libraries in the world is at the Strahov Monastery in Prague . While it is a bit off the beaten path for most tourists, it really is a must-see. Over 125,000 classic and rare books fill floor-to-ceiling bookshelves at the monastery, which sits on a hill. There are two halls. The Theological Hall dates from the 1600s and features ornate, 18th-century Baroque frescoes on the ceiling. The Philosophical Hall (pictured) is truly spectacular - an 18th century creation built in the Classic style that features Greek frescoes and opulently carved wooden bookcases with golden accents. On the grounds of the monastery are also The Church of Saint Roch, an art gallery and a brewery with the best sweeping views of Prague - truly a wonderful, enchanting way to spend a beautiful afternoon."

The price for the library was 180 Czech crowns, but you are not allowed to actually enter the library room, you can only stand in the doorway. They say it’s because they want to “protect the books”, and I understand that, but for that price, they could at least allow to step inside the room to get a better view, while still maintaining a 2-3 meter distance from the books for their protection. When i saw that i could only have a look from the doorway, i felt like i got a bit ripped off. The libraries seem very beautiful though.

Visiting Strahov Monastery was an absolute delight and one of the most beautiful experiences in Prague. The interior architecture and the paintings are truly out of this world — breathtakingly detailed, elegant, and incredibly well preserved. Every room feels like stepping into a masterpiece. What made the visit even more memorable was the kindness and professionalism of the staff. We accidentally purchased a larger visiting package than we needed, and the staff were unbelievably nice and understanding. They changed our tickets without any hassle and even refunded the difference to us in cash. That level of honesty and customer care is rare and deeply appreciated. Thank you very much for such a wonderful experience!

It was amazing to see the library and the monastery, especially since there was almost no one there. Also the view from the monastery was breathtaking. However we bought tickets for the gallery, monastery self guided tour, which I do not think is necessary unless you are specifically interested in paintings of the 16th/17th century and a few liturgical art pieces/jewellery. The monastery itself is however pretty.

Incredible collection of old artifacts and taxidermy. Amazing to send time deeply look at these objects. Worth atleast and hour or two of your time. The libraries are particularly stunning. The artworks section isn't worth checking out as there wasn't much noteworthy.

incredible library although a wee bit busy at times. definitely worth a visit but just be prepared to wait in a short queue to look at the inside of the library as tourists can take some time taking their photos. 📷

I must visit in Prague! :) It is beyond beautiful to visit the two libraries at the monastery. Personally, the picture moment is important to capture such a beauty, however spending time in each corner to read and see all the old and historic artefacts there, it is very rewarding. I love the xylitheca they have from the 1800s and the whole collection of terrestrial and celestial globes. Those blew my mind because I had no idea about there were celestial globes. Everyone goes to take a picture to the libraries and libes get organized, but I highly recommend to take the time to trully see the details of the libraries. They take your breath away.

A truly impressive and peaceful place. The library halls are absolutely stunning, full of history and atmosphere, and the view over Prague from the area is beautiful. Very well organized, clean, and worth visiting even if you’re short on time.

The library is a stunning room with the most amazing ceiling so the monastery is definitely worth visiting for this. There were some works going on when we visited though so it was loud and there was equipment across the floor meaning we didn’t get the usual experience which was a shame. The cabinet of curiosities is quite interesting.
