Strait on the Beach

Nice food and fast service but the staff could work on being a bit friendlier. Being located literally straight on the beach, the views really can’t get any better. Timber dining, undercover shade and airflow with fans makes it an enjoyable little spot to eat, drink and hang out. Playground within a stones through is also a bonus for the parents!

Strait on the beach is right where it is, right on the beach front. The vibes and atmosphere here are second to none in Holloways Beach as the beach is your view. The beers, wine or whatever you drink are nice and cold. The food is amazing and very well made from the cooks/chef! The service is great and always feel welcomed here. Good stuff! 💪

Went with my mum for brunch. Food was exceptional I loved it. Perfect portion size and could not put a fault on the food. The vibe is very beachy, very Bali and just soooo cute. Felt very local and organic. I wish there was table service but other than that a great experience would 100% go back.

i loved the view and the atmosphere! shade and with fans. the caesar salad was unfortunately disappointing. chicken tasted like fridge and the dressing was a poor image. i loved the juice, they are fresh made and you can choose all ingredients 🫶

Beautiful spot with friendly staff and prompt service. We had scones, jam and cream with coffee. The scones were beautifully fresh and light but were let down by the cream which was foam out of a can and tasteless. Fresh cream would have complimented the scones and jam much better. The coffee was really nice.

UPDATE JAN 2024 Holloways Beach was devastated by floods in mid December 2023. As this place is on the beach I thought it would be closed. On a reconnaissance trip I found it wasn't and it was operating as normal. So I went with friends to try it again. The owners said they weren't affected by the floods / water but lost power for a long period and had to dispose of all their food inventory. The good news is we found it was as good as before. I'm happy to say the previous review still applies. I should mention I ordered a different dish this time and it was as enjoyable as the last time. ORIGINAL REVIEW It looks like I'm going to repeat what many reviews have already said. This place has good food in a great location. I ordered a simple burger -- the lowest price point on their burger menu. It tasted great. The beef patty was juicy and had good flavour. I wouldn't say it's expensive and they could probably charge just for the views, but hey, they're free. I saw quite a few people enjoying coffee so apparently that's an option, too. No complaints about this place. I enjoyed it.

I don't know how long this place has been open but I've been in the area over 20 years and I went here for the first time about a month ago and cannot believe I didn't know about it. It is now on my list of favorites in this region! I am FUSSY and this place is IT. The combination of beautifully crafted food, even house-made jam for the scones (I mean, that's a rare find in itself right?), unique furniture and it's right ON, not near, not across the road from, but ON... the beach. There's nothing not to love about it. But don't take MY word for it, TRY IT!

Convenient to the accomodation. Fish and 2x orders of chips with a drink... 'bargain' at $17. Wouldn't make it a habitual eating spot... much better food options in downtown Cairns. Beach is not really much to look at or swim... especially during stinger season.

This place is absolutely horrible! When my boyfriend and I arrived we ordered and were told what the special was. It sounded good so i just ordered a small appetizer to tide me over until the special was available... which never ended up happening. We were told after ordering and paying that we couldn't sit in any of the reserved tables. There were two table not reserved so we sat at one of them. While waiting for our food we were overwhelmed with green ants crawling on the table and our bodies. We moved to the only other unreserved table. Our food was delivered, which was awful. The cheese on the nachos was limited and not even melted. While we ate our subpar food we were told that our table was now reserved but "we could finish our food and go". Needless to say the entire experience was terrible and we will NEVER be going back.

We love the beach breezes and regularly visit Strait on the Beach. We sit with the sand between our toes watching our kids play metres from our seat. Friday nights are fun, Saturday morning's chilled and we regularly have our business meetings there. We recommend the location for quirky furniture and friendly staff. Our favourite dishes are the Eggs Benedict, Calamari Salad and Scones with homemade paw paw jam.

Make sure when you order a 'burger' you ask whether it comes with a patty or not. The 'Egg Bacon Burger', doesn't!

Beautiful spot right on the beach - every table and chair individually carved, Kids had a big banana mango smoothie and scones with mango jam and cream. Grown ups had good grilled mushrooms on toast (white bread). Coffee a bit weak and a bit too hot.

Really fun place to eat. The food is amazing and sevice is good too. I love this place.
