We visited The Strand for 2 nights as part of a 2 week driving trip around Namibia. Amazing country and friendly people so far, but the reception greeting at The Strand was very poor. Where our fellow travellers received a complementary drink and cool towel, my wife and I got nothing. Of the three reception desks we unfortunately went for Freddie and had no welcome greeting or smile. Completely emotionless and unfriendly outlook. Upon informing him of our name and indicating we were part of the group checking in he asked us what we wanted! Then proceeded to take an age looking at his computer, giving no indication that he was checking if our room was ready until I asked him. We had a table at the Ocean Cellar restaurant for 8.15 and asked if he could call though to check if an earlier time was available… which he then came back to confirm it was booked for 8.15 looking at us blankly afterwards and not asking if there was anything else he could do. Not what we had asked him to do! ||All the other staff were great. The car park attendant even wiped our dust covered bags down. Breakfast the next morning was welcomed by a lady with a big smile and a cheery “good morning how are you?” If only Freddie could take a leaf out of her book- it costs nothing to smile and be friendly and it makes all the difference to the experience.|Great breakfast and nice location by the beach. Rooms were clean and comfortable, but the sliding door that overlooked a ground floor roof area wouldn’t lock, so didn’t feel the most secure tbh. Informed the reception on first evening of this, but nothing appeared to be fixed in the 2 nights we were there.
