Only Free Camping site in all of Iceland:
We visited in mid-June and found this spot absolutely beautiful, nestled in nature. The kind lady who runs it lets people camp for FREE - there’s a donation box at the WC, but it’s totally optional. The kitchen area and toilets are simple but decent, and honestly, there’s nothing to complain about.
Opposite the campground, she runs a cozy café with very reasonable prices for coffee, hot chocolate, and hot dogs - we loved going back for more! She also sells her own hand-knitted woolen items.
The place is peaceful, full of Arctic terns (just be mindful of their nests), and truly charming. Plus, there’s a friendly cat who loves to be petted and a sweet dog belonging to the owner. A truly wonderful and unique camping experience!
