3 Best Day Trips From Cape Town

"Paternoster is a sweet little seaside retreat that deserves far more attention than it gets, and Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel is one of the best and most affordable options for exploring it. Strandloper is one of our favorite little finds in South Africa: an airy seaside escape that exudes beachy minimalism in the form of white linens, pale woods, animal hide rugs, and furniture. The interiors are simple, but plush, in order to maximize the focus on the exterior, and that's just how a beach hideaway should be." - Sarah Khan

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An unforgettable stay at Hotel De Strandloper We had an absolutely fantastic time at Hotel De Strandloper in Paternoster! Everything was perfect, the stunning beachfront location, the beautifully designed rooms, and the lovely cottages that match the hotel’s luxury-and-relaxation concept flawlessly. The staff were warm and attentive, the food fresh and delicious, and the overall atmosphere truly peaceful. A genuine gem, we will definitely be back! Thank you team De Strandloper P.s. The massage…… Best of the best!

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary at the Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel over a long weekend. We were spoilt from the moment we arrived until the time we left. All the staff were friendly and helpful, every step of the way. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Apart from the exceptional service, we received surprise gifts which were just so thoughtful.|The accommodation (Ocean View room) was exquisite. A large, comfortable room, tastefully furnished. Clear view of the sea and easy access to the beach.|We thoroughly recommend the hotel and hope to return soon.

What an absolutely beautiful place, although I feel those words simply don't do Strandloper justice. We absolutely loved everything about this gorgeous hotel, we have travelled widely across the world but this place will always have a special place in our hearts. It sits on the dunes, at the end of the village of Paternoster, a beautiful, laid back, unpretentious place, with delightful single story, white painted houses lining its quiet streets. The hotel is also single story and works in harmony with the local architecture, but rather than being in one building it occupies a series of buildings that have a "kick off your shoes" beach vibe from the outside and state of the art and simply stunning interiors within. Our ocean beach suite, had floor to ceiling picture windows, and a terrace that lead down to the beach on a series of wooden walkways. The beach at Paternoster is beautiful, but this end of the village is super quiet, and sits around a little headland, so it feels like you have the whole beach to yourself. The deserted beach stretches for miles, and after the hotel the backdrop is only of dunes and fynbos, and powdery white sands, as far as the eye can see. The room, like the rest of the hotel had been carefully curated, with stylish furniture, beautiful art, the finest linens, and the comfiest of beds, a bathroom that was sumptuous and decadent and a private enclosed garden with an outdoor shower. For the chillier evenings there was a woodburning stove and one of the many delights of staying here was coming back from an evening out to find the fire lit, and hot water bottles in the bed. The food in the Leeto restaurant (which also had a chic beachy vibe) was excellent, both breakfast and dinner were a culinary delight, served by staff who we said goodbye to as friends (Nandi, Kikki, we loved you guys, thank you for making our stay so incredibly special). We were lucky enough to chat to one of the owners, Simone, and it was clear that she had a deep passion for this place and a love of her staff. It was also wonderful to hear that the hotel had been involved in community projects (such as West Coast Kids), that they support community uplift projects including prioritising hiring staff from the local Paternoster community, and important conservation and sustainability initiatives, aimed at protecting both the flora and fauna of the area (and sustainable, regenerative tourism that supports local communities, really matters to us). The concierge service on offer was also fabulous and there was so much that they could arrange. The sea was a little rough to go sea kayaking and it was a little cold to have the planned beach picnic, but we went riding on the beach (fabulous, thank you Mark and Linky it was so much fun, you guys rock), I had the most incredible massage, and a yoga session with one of the most delightful women you could wish to meet (so much so Alicja came to do a private session with me later on in our South African stay). I can honestly say this was one of the hardest places we've ever had to leave, but the memories of the little slice of Heaven that was Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel will remain in our hearts and minds forever.

Really nice hotel on the edge of town. Rooms, food and service was really good, restaurant was amazing both for breakfast and dinner. We also tried the Spa, also excellent. Nice beach walks and lovely town full of art studios and cafes. We had an ocean view room, worth the money, wonderful views of the ocean and bird life. Highly recommend this place.

Am not one to mince my words ... And also not one for posh hotels. They tend to bring out the worst in me as in my youth I worked in them .. and struggle with the idea of being looked after and distain the concept of being more important than others (5 star etc etc). Disclaimed ended This place is unique and our stay here was very special. Staff were all on point and service was polished ... But not too much. The view we had of the savannah(?) meant every night we could lie out under the stars sharing a stolen moment of together. The turn down service, breakfast with a smile ... Long walks down the beach ... A lazy day by the pool drinking martinis Yes, yes and more yes

We had such a wonderful stay! The team truly thinks about every little detail- from closing our curtains each evening while we’re at dinner, to placing a hot water bottle under the blanket to keep us warm. Everyone was incredibly kind, flexible, and genuinely seems to love what they do. A special thank you to Jaco, the manager, who was absolutely amazing and made our stay even better. Highly recommend this place — it’s full of heart and warmth!
