The cocktails served at Strandvägen 1 are crafted with great care by Johan. I had several excellent "old fashioned" cocktails while watching a performance by Antonia Vai. One of the best parts of the drink was the enormous single rectangular ice cube that never melted.
I did notice that unlike bartenders at home, bartenders in Stockholm tended to under measure while pouring into the jigger. I noticed because they would pour into the jigger away from your glass, instead of pouring into the jigger over your glass, and would underfill so as not to spill, whereas at home the bartenders tend to overfill and let the excess go into your drink. This is not a complaint, so much as a cultural observation.
While at the bar, the manager Marcus recommended the beef carpaccio. I asked if I could eat it at the bar, because it doesn't seem like that's something people do in Sweden, and he was totally cool with it. The carpaccio is served thinly sliced, with a piece of buttered toast in the center, with an egg yolk and a spoonful of whitefish roe. I don't usually eat raw beef, and I almost never eat raw or cooked egg yolks, but it was superb.
This is a great place to enjoy a drink and the company of friends.
