A home away from home, we were so happy to find a nice warm place to get our little ones out of their car seats and make ourselves comfortable and rest up for a long journey! Irene and her family went above and beyond to ensure our family was happy and had everything for our stay, as an added touch they even included some books for our 17 month old son to enjoy in the living room. This is definitely a gem that would have gone unnoticed if it weren't for word of mouth from a friends referral and I do hope this reaches many more eyes when families are searching for a place to stay in Thunder Bay. Due to the fact that Google failed to list this location as somewhere to bring my business, I want to make it clear that they are worth every dollar as a family owned and operated business!

I would highly recommend staying at Strathcona Motel. Very clean, convenient and welcoming. Price is beyond reasonable. They even provide a kitchenette so we can cook a home made meal all while we travel across Canada. Our host Irene, provided us the upmost generosity and hospitality. This place even runs on the traditional “honour system”. 🌻💛

If I could give more than five stars, I would!!! Exceptional customer service, great location, and a perfect suite for anyone. When we were in a bind to find a place for my mother in law to live on short notice for medical reasons, this family owned motel saved the day. Couldn’t have asked for a more friendly, accommodating experience. Whether you are driving through Thunder Bay and just need to stay the night or if you are like us looking for somewhere to call home for a short while, look no further. This is the place to stay!!!

This is truly a fine, friendly place that is nice and clean. Irene is personal and friendly. The atmosphere outside the hotel next morning was old-fashioned and neighborly. My husband was skeptical at first but upon arrival and looking around, he said we should keep it on our list for next time. The price is good. Accommodations are small but tidy and well-kept. Thank you Irene.

We had the pleasant experience of spending a night at this quaint little motel. The room we stay was cozy, clean and comfortable. It had a separate bedroom and a kitchenette. Irene was wonderful, pleasant and very friendly. Getting to the motel was easy and convenient especially if you're just passing through. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Stay here!! You won't regret it. What an amazing little property. The owners are very attentive and clearly care about the place. Cute, cozy, safe, and comfortable. Stayed twice over the weekend. On my way to and from Winnipeg. Irene was so accommodating on my last minute request. Truly a gem!!

Yelp
We stayed here last night . This must be the best kept secret in Thunder Bay. It was a nice little Kitchenette , a queen size double bed and a couch . It had a fridge ,electric range , dishes and knives and forks ,& a toaster. This should be advertised your tiny home on the road .. This was my first time here but it will not be the last. Thanks Garnet

Yelp
We highly recommend this place because it was so clean, tidy and Irene was very approachable/ kind. Given the opportunity that we don't have a place to stay from a 15hr long drive and a first time traveller here in Thunder Bay. First time I called Irene I knew she was an angel out of nowhere provided us a place to stay in.Will definitely comeback if we happen to pass by here again.

Yelp
We had never been to Thunder Bay so we didn't know where to stay until we found Strathcona on the internet. And we're so glad we did. Located in a quiet, safe residential area this is one of the cleanest Motels we've ever stayed at. The rooms are small but, adequate. Decorated in a 50's motif it is really quite charming. The kitchen/living room has a large frig, micro, stove, oven, sink, toaster, coffee maker and all the pots, pans and dishes you would ever need. The bedroom has a nice comfortable bed. The bathroom, although small, has a shower/bathtub and everything you need. The owner, Ken, took over the business from his parents and literally grew up there. He will meet you personally when you check in as he lives just a block away. Be prepared, he only accepts cash. He's a wealth of information so don't be afraid to ask him questions. He is a former teacher and normally rents out to students during the off-season. However, he does hold a couple of rooms for travelers. We wish we could have spent a week there. We plan to return to TB some day and will definitely stay here again.
