21 Places to Get Back Into the Beatles

"Behind the wrought-iron scarlet gates of Strawberry Field was a Salvation Army home for young orphaned children, and surrounding this Victorian Gothic house were acres of thick woodland, which also backed onto John Lennon’s childhood home on Menlove Avenue. These grounds became fertile territory for a troubled young Lennon’s imagination. The solitary field was a place to escape, climb trees, build dens, and perhaps with a mix of sadness and fascination, watch the less fortunate kids inside the home. The times spent under these illusory, northern skies scarred Lennon’s subconscious deeply and it took a psychedelic-triggered yearning for childhood innocence for it to re-surface around the summer of 1966 when he penned the famous song Strawberry Fields Forever. The field itself is generally unremarkable, but thanks to the popularity of the tune, the site has become a pilgrimage site for Beatles fans. The original gates had to be replaced after they were stolen (but later found in a scrap metal yard), and the original orphanage has been torn down but the lonely field that inspired one of the most timeless songs of all time still remains a place of quiet contemplation." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Strawberry Field in Liverpool is a historic site with deep connections to John Lennon and The Beatles. Originally a Victorian-era private residence, it was gifted to The Salvation Army in 1934 and operated as a children's home from 1936 until 2005, providing refuge for vulnerable children in Liverpool . As a child, John Lennon lived nearby and often played in the gardens of Strawberry Field, finding solace and inspiration there. These experiences later inspired the Beatles' 1967 song "Strawberry Fields Forever," capturing Lennon's nostalgic memories of the place . In 2019, Strawberry Field opened its gates to the public for the first time, transforming into a visitor attraction that includes an interactive exhibition, tranquil gardens, a café, and a shop . The exhibition features notable items such as the original piano John Lennon used to compose "Imagine," on loan from the estate of the late George Michael . Visitors can explore the gardens where Lennon once played, reflecting on the site's history and its impact on his life and music. The attraction also supports the "Steps at Strawberry Field" program, offering training and employment opportunities for young people with learning difficulties . For Beatles fans and those interested in music history, Strawberry Field offers a unique glimpse into the formative experiences of one of the 20th century's most influential musicians.

i did not actually go into the museum, but the gate alone is truly iconic for any Beatles fan. there are signatures everywhere and it's a nice quiet neighborhood.

This was incredible to be honest and in our opinion is the best Beatles experience in the city. It’s really interesting to learn about the Salvation Army and what they do. You really feel the presence of John Lennon and the history of the Salvation Army when you visit here. The staff are all lovely and very helpful. Make sure you visit here if you are a fan of The Beatles.

A tourist attraction that includes an audio-visual interactive history of the Salvation Army "Strawberry Field" children's home (long demolished) and Beatles history and memorabilia. After experiencing the centre don't forget to follow the path through the garden.

John Lennon of the #Beatles was inspired by a real place – Strawberry Field, a Salvation Army children's home in Woolton, Liverpool that was just around the corner from where he grew up. The museum, restaurant and gardens are a must see. Our favorite part of #Liverpool. The audio tour was very helpful and you were encouraged to be mindful and present in your own personal purpose and experience while listening to beautiful inspiring music.
