I really like Streetlight Records and enjoy coming regularly. The staff is kind, particularly I've had great experiences with Paige. I really like the variety of records, and other physical media they offer. A really fun store to browse. I've also found the way they handle RSD really great. Every time I've gone, it has been nothing but peaceful and efficient. The appointments greatly help. I recommend this store if you want to support local Bay Area businesses and if you love music, television, and film.

Absolutely fabulous place with the best people and customer service! I always find great vinyl here - but more importantly, the staff go out of their way every time. Super friendly, helpful, and amazing. Paige, in particular, has gone WAY out of her way to help me get a hold of some of the more difficult to find titles on my growing list. These guys are stellar and the store is fantastic. PS their approach to RSD is a gold-star! I wish more places would do it like this. My go-to local spot. Check it out!

I brought a good assortment of vinyl in to sell. Of the 22 they offered to buy, they only offered me around $1.50 each. These records are selling anywhere from $10 to $450 each on eBay. I had called in beforehand to asked what percentages they offered based on the price they would sell them for. They avoided my question and said they would pay based on rarity. Don’t sell your records to them unless you want to be ripped off.

I always leave with one item whenever I stop by! The store has a lot of space and is easy to get to from the freeway. The only qualm is the parking lot is not ideal with the potholes, but just drive slow and you will be fine. On the few times I’ve needed something, the workers were helpful. High recommend if you’re trying to pass time or rediscover artists you’ve forgotten about.

Insane finds can be unearthed here, you need only look. The music media is obviously worth the trip alone, but their VHS selection is a major highlight as well. Support your local record store!

New to area, first record store I've been to, but made the right choice. I'm a huge b extreme metal fan and they had a whole section, and obviously someone that knows a bit about it. No matter what you like they got it, highly recommend.

I been to streetlight in Santa Cruz, so I stopped by this place to see if they had anything I’d like. They have good selection of cheap used vinyl. They have a retro toy selection that takes you back to memory lane. I wanted something they didn’t have so they said they reserve it when it’s back in stock.

I've been going to Streetlight Records since I first got into records in 2012. The staff are always friendly, it's easy to special order records, and there's a deluge of great finds in used and new vinyl. In particular, I'm into video game vinyl, and Streetlight has stocked Mondo releases, Data Disc stuff, the works. You really just gotta check back frequently because people sell often and there's plenty of good stuff out there! (I just sold a bunch there as well -- shout out to Brittany who priced my stuff fairly and talked shop a bit about VGM vinyl.) Used video games aplenty as well! I especially appreciate how responsive Streetlight is on social media. I've messaged Paige from Streetlight back and forth about special orders from time to time and she's always clear about what to expect and the over/under on getting special releases. It's so easy to decide to go to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles for records, but Streetlight Records really is a community hub for people who love good music and good vibes. Over a decade later, I'm confident I'll be a customer for decades to come.

Friendly customer service! The staff played some great tunes and were also willing to assist. They had a decent amount of cassettes fairly priced!

I honestly feel bad that I completely forget that Streetlight is literally less than a mile from my house but it is 100% a hidden gem! I came here to sell some cds,dvds and vinyl. While I waited I browsed around and they have a lot of really good stuff. Majority of it is CDs but they also have some Vinyl, DVDs/BluRay and even stickers! I saw A LOT of things I had to walk away from because I had come to take home some money not spend it. Now I normally take item to Rasputin to sell and they always take everything but a small take home. Here is the opposite, they pay more but take a lot less so it's a give and take so to speak but the associates were super nice and I'll definitely be back again but this time to shop!

My son recently got into vinyl records. This is the first place I thought of to check out now my son can't wait to come back they have reasonable prices Great selections. Place is clean and organized. Staff was kind and helpful told us about upcoming events. Definitely plan on making this our go to place.

Revisited Streetlight recently for their listening party of the new Pinhead Gunpowder album, "Unt." It was my first time going to a listening party and I really enjoyed it! On top of buying the new Unt record, I also ended up buying another vinyl I found. They gave everyone a free album poster with some aunt freebies as well. At the end, they also raffled away Pinhead Gunpowder signed merch/records (sadly I did not win haha). Hope to come back for another listening party in the future!

Pretty cool hidden gem place if you want to feel vintage all over again! They literally have everything media from old video games, dvd movies, vhs movies , blu ray movies, cassette tapes , vinyl records and more. Definitely better pricing than your Barnes and nobles or Best Buy Forsure.. This place also buy exchange, never tried but maybe I will one day!

music selection is top tier! & they also have cool punk stickers and patches for sale. Criterion collection was stacked up too. we liked how they organized it on large standing shelves, kind of mimicking the "criterion closet" series. Staff didn't speak to us at all There's 3 listening booths set up with headphones and CDs displayed and it should have an "Out of Order" sign cuz we kept trying to use it and it didn't work. An employee saw us and passed right by us without a care. some communication would be nice! Also the cashier didn't even say "hi" just the total of my purchase. She also didn't instruct me to pick up my record on the other side of the counter. I had to assume that on my own I guess. I've been to Amoeba SF and I know they also do it like that but at least the staff there talks to you and lets you know lmao

Wow! I never knew this place existed. My friend introduced me to this place as he wanted to look at their vinyl records. It's in the middle of the industrial era on Bascom, and it's not hard to miss! They have convenient parking next to the venue. The moment you walk in- it's bright lit store with aisles and aisles of music merchandise from CDs, albums, DVDs, and more. I'm definitely returning since they buy used DVDs and CDs. It was fun to explore the store from seeing different music genres from jazz to kpop, movie classics, and anime as well. Awesome hidden gem in the San Jose area that's keeping music culture alive and well.

First time ever attending a record store day event. Unfortunately they ran out of the two records I wanted so I just browsed their collection. They have a lot of used vinyl and cds that it was a bit overwhelming to look at. Overall a nice store, I will definitely try to get an earlier appointment for future rsd dates

What a great place. One of the things I miss most about Memphis? The great record stores. I could spend an afternoon just visiting record stores and browsing ... discovering little gems to put on my victrola when I got home. My hubby took me appliance shopping (refrigerator specifically) this past Sunday. Out last appliance store stop was at Airport Hone Appliance. Practically in the same parking lot was Streetlight Records. I was significantly more excited when seeing this place than going to look at fridges. The hubby had never went record shopping so it was fun introducing him to it. I found several great records including a Fats Domino one I had been looking for, and a Sun Studio recording from Elvis. I always look for Sun Studio recordings of any artist. The hubby was excited to find several of his favorite 80s bands. The selection (not counting the bargain bin area) of records are all pretty well organized and relatively extensive. The hubby was a little disappointed at the anime selection, but still managed to find two (one DVD and one blue ray) that he 'needed'. ;) And we managed to find him an pair of game themed socks ... haha. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will he back ... often. Thank you Streetlight Records .... thanks for helping a little with my Memphis homesick blues.

It's a cool old school record store. Lots of records, CDs and DVDs. All were well organized and easy to find alphabetically. Prices were low for the used stuff, didn't see too much brand new but it's there. My daughter loves buying CDs and DVDs from actual stores and not online and she enjoys these kinds of places! I enjoyed walking around and looking.

I only just called to ask a question & the guy who picked up was so rude. I called to ask if they had any more signed Eternal Sunshine in stock (i figured i was too late but still wanted to check) & he cut me off sounding very annoyed before i could even finish my question. I don't think i'll be shopping here with employees who have this big of an attitude. (which i'm sure this dude would be thrilled to have less people in the door with how annoyed he sounded. stay tf home if you hate your customer service job)

After a dreadful time at Rasputin Music where all four employees I talked to were simply horrible (one spent five minutes badmouthing their owner, "the owner only trusts the Berkeley store with the good records. We only get leftovers here. He's a jerk." one told me he was sure they wouldn't have any shirts in "my size," one yelled at my eleven year old child for accidentally walking in with a soda "No Drinks Allowed!!! She screamed. And the other took my items and rang me up without saying a word, only to refuse me a bag after spending $90 there. "Bags are ELEVEN CENTS," she said... l told her I had no problem paying the 11 cents but she could have at least informed me of the fee before she rang my card! Then we went to Streetlight, the records were on average 20% cheaper for the same item. They had way better/rarer stuff. And the employees were awesome! Jeff the vinyl guy was incredible. Deep hip hop knowledge like myself, easily 20 years in the underground vinyl game. And super kind to my kids. No "music snobs" here. Dropped $250 like it was nothing and loved it! PLUS... wait for it... free REUSABLE bag with purchase! I know where I will always be going back to from now on!

This place was super fun for a Duran Duran release party! Several people showed up and we all had. Great time listening to the new album with redone songs and brand new ones! It's a great place to get cds records and tapes! -J

Good selection of classic artists as well as newer artists and I have had good experiences reselling vinyl here.

Streetlight has been my go to record store for decades. They have tons of albums , cd's and tapes. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable

Snobby workers and over priced vinyls. They say they buy stuff but every time I go they don't buy anything. The stuff they do is worse then game stop. Pennie's on the dollar. Over crowded and honestly just lame.

I recently bought a turntable and it's now a hobby every weekend to search for vinyls I like. I have to say the one thing Streetlight has over the others is how friendly the staff is. I got into a discussion about how hard it was to find Pet Shop Boys LPs anywhere and they wound up finding a 45 for me. I really appreciated the gesture. This and The Needle to the Groove in Niles are my favs thus far. Streetlight has wide selection and reasonable prices. Ample parking and well situated near SJ/Santa Clara.

Definitely recommend. You can find such hidden gems here. There are dvds, blue rays, cds and vinyl. If this place wasn't so far from where I lived, I would be there every week checking out the collection. You can trade in your used music or movies for credit or cash!

Just moved to Santa Clara and I wanted to get to know the area a little more. Throughout the month I've been here, I've just been feeling very down and a lil overwhelmed about moving to a different city. One of my friends told me to visit a record store since I started becoming interested in record collecting. So I did and honestly I'm happy that I did. I chose this record store since it was the nearest and I'll be coming back! They have a huge selection of vinyl records. New and old. It was such a therapeutic experience visiting this record store since it helped me get over those overwhelming thoughts for a bit. Also the manager was so friendly! She made me feel welcomed when I was checking out!

Movies everywhere. A whole library of movies. If you're looking for movies and couldn't find any here. I suggest checking it twice to see if they even exists cause they have A LOT. Huge selection to chose from, as a movie buff I like going to streetlight to see what movies they have. Of course being a used record store you never know what you are going to find and just kind of makes it fun. My most recent visit I gathered up quite the haul and scored big time on some 4k titles. How they manage to cram a whole lot in a small area is interesting. Although it's not the largest (I usually shop at their Santa Cruz location) but I was in the neighborhood and stopped by to see their selection of movies, because they have a large selection of every genre. The employees at this location are very knowledgable, more than willing to help if you can't find something. Great store and I'm looking foward to my next visit - thank you!

Always recommend this place if you're killing time or wanna explore some new music. Also recommend for those looking for dvds, but it's always a first come first serve. I like streetlight records because it upcyles the media that has more recently been phased out.

Streetlight Records is located in San Jose. It was Black Friday, and Record Store Day had some exclusives released that day. I had not been to Streelight in awhile, so I decided to check them out. They had the RSD releases at the counter. They also had the new releases as well as many used and Christmas CDs/LPs. The staff were friendly and helpful. They can special order items for you as well. I've been an on-and-off customer for decades, and I can recommend this place for your music needs.

I've come here twice already to browse CDs. The selection is huge and prices are pretty good. It's pretty much a grab bag of what you're going to get, but that's the fun of it - seeing what they have. I found some rare albums that I wouldn't have found elsewhere. Came away with 5 CDs each trip for just under $30 - great deals.

I went to 3 used record stores today, I almost skipped Streetlight for the lack of reviews on them but Streetlight sat between the two I visited today. I figured since Im down here not my regular stomping grounds go take a look. To my surprise they have the most organized used records of all record stores I have visited in the Bay area. Really impressed with organization pricing and huge amount of inventory. They also had a local band playing in the store today. Love this place, I will be back.

Good assortment of records old and new. Helpful staff that knows music and can offer suggestions. I would definitely recommend this store.

I have been searching for a cd shop and mannn they have it all here--the staff is also super friendly and helpful. My friend was able to get a record put on hold. Their cds are well priced, they have a lot if discounted stuff due to condition but the cds I bought played well regardless. Some of their records were a little pricier than I've seen in other places. They have a ton of movies and a really nice horror section as well. Definitely will be coming back!

Melanie Martinez event sucked and unfair! An obnoxious line through the whole store just get people to buy things. Not only that but waiting for the wristbands and for a raffle ticket where it was totally unfair. The first person you called didn't respond soon enough but you still have her a chance to claim a prize. Definitely unfair for other people who have their ticket in hand. Clearly you don't know the notion of first come first serve.

Well what can i say. For me at least my last streetlight records experience was great and led me to write this review. So let me start by saying, over the weekend i missed a delivery from the "mailman" It was Saturday so sunday was torture knowing my extra special records were trapped at the post office. Very long sunday. Anyways monday morning comes and i leave home early to stop by the post office.to rescue the records. All goes well but i have to go straight to school. Mid terms thing so was important i made it . and i did. Another very very very long three hours later and im out of class I have a one hour break between my classes but my house is like 25 minutes away easy So there and back only gives me ten minutes to play these records.yes i thought of going home. But quickly realised it wasnt worth it. But i thought about it though. Then i remembered streelight records was close to my school. I drove straight there. Hoping i could use there turntable to listen to my super special vinyl i just got. But No turntable. Ouch major dissappointment so buying used vinyl here is a major gamble. I pretty much had a whole hour left so I decided to browse around I looked into the reggae section of vinyl records because that's my preference of music and Wallah Bam wow perfect I couldn't believe it I found a bunch of 10 inch UK records.. Yes i gambled. And YES!!! I won. .....when i got home i was so excited to play all my new records. The ones shipped from london and The ones that I got from streetlight Records long story short ill be back...!!!!!

Been coming down here for the past six or seven years and they do have bargains and I usually buy the ones used and they do have CD listening stations with headphones to check out what they have in store. Never had any serious issues with the staff always there to assist and they have in the past. Countless oldies, blues, soul, country and rock and roll. They even have heavy metal, hip hop, international and R&Bs and more more. One can spend hours looking over dramas, action, sci fi and horror movies. Prices varies but you can always find a bargain. They do accept cds and videos for trade in or sell them as cash up front. There's never a dull moment and you can sign up thru their websites via your email count get a coupon up to 25% off on cd's, blueray and records of all kind. They do provide their own private parking space for its customers.

I came in to help a buddy sell some ancient lps - a wide-ranging assortment of 60's and 70's pop and r&B genres, which unfortunately were in far from pristine shape. Still, a handful of them were worth $50 cash, which wasn't a bad deal (the rest are now garage sale bound - cheap!). I wandered the while the staff examined the four boxes of vinyl. And I was fairly blown away by the great selection of lps, cds and dvds. Tasty rock, blues, and soul in particular. Make a want list before coming here, or you'll be overwhelmed and distracted like I was. I plan on being more prepared to shop next time in. Better sale prices than Rasputins, IMHO, and a good place to sell those lps that have been passing the days in a box in the garage.

Never knew this place existed. I'm a huge collector of film and will often go to Rasputin's for deals, but this place tops them in price! Their selection isn't as large, but it's still pretty extensive. I'm not sure what's up with the hiring of people in record stores, as it seems most people don't want to work there, and this place is no exception. Still, that seems to be the norm with places like these, and at the end of the day, I'm not so interested in customer service, but in the deals I'm able to get. Great spot, and if you're in the market for some used movies, music, then give this place a shot.

Support your LOCAL MUSIC STORES PEOPLE!! This place is very helpful and will help you get whatever music or dvd movie you need. If everyone keeps going Amazon - and I've actually seen prices here on new music BELOW AMAZON PRICES, we will have no more local music places. This is only about selling vinyl records. I have many boxes of them and was finally clearing them out and wanted to sell as many as I could. Streetlight bought very roughly 30 or so of them (about 1 box) and paid me $100. The guy doing the assessment was fast (and polite) in deciding what he wanted. The records he bought were generally pop (ABBA, Beatles, etc.) or Blues-Jazz with some odds and ends of avante-garde classical, Jazz, old JPOP. He inspected each record quickly and selected mainly those with "like new" album jackets. He said they were backed up on classical so he only bought a few of those. Those he bought were more popular like Glenn Gould with clean album covers. He recommended "Needle to the Groove" as another place to try. If you're buying vinyl you can be assured they buy only good quality.

WOW ! We googled this record store to check out while we were in San Jose recently. I'm a sucker for record stores.....there is always something I am looking for to add to my substantial music collection. Nice service from Gary helping me locate exactly what I wanted to buy. This place is stuck out in the middle of nowhere but is sure worth a visit. I would have bought a rock star t-shirt but their selection and size range sucked. Huge record and cd selection + fair prices !

Good selection that is continually updated. Nice atmosphere and very friendly, knowledgeable staff. They run an excellent Record Store Day. Paige is the best.

During my first time here, I was rather overwhelmed by the outstanding collection of music that decorated the whole place, ranging from jazz fusion, gothic rock, Japanese city pop, electronic, and hardcore punk. However, I was, specifically, looking for the METAL section. After looking around for a bit, I FOUND THE COLLECTION METAL CDs! I was pretty stoked seeing the diverse collection of metal genres and I, absolutely, loved the current San Jose metal bands being highlighted on the top racks, such as Black F*cking Cancer and ColdClaw. I was also happy to see other sections dedicated to genres that I haven't quite seen in other record stores (yet), such as the anime OST section. Whenever I visit this store, I try to check the anime OST section to see if any new CDs are in display, though I tend to always leave Streetlight Records with at least one anime OST CD, even if it's from a anime or Japanese animated movie that I have not seen yet. The staff was incredibly kind and checked up on me, especially when I've been browsing for a certain period of time. They're very musically inclined and I've enjoyed some stories they've told, one of which was when one of the staff members have told a story about hanging out with the members of Sleep (legendary San Jose doom metal/stoner metal power trio). Additionally, due to the current events, they've also kept up with CDC guidelines and made sure that every part of the store is safe and sanitized, as well as ensuring social distancing and mask wearing is enforced. I love this place! It's like I find something new and interesting every time I make a visit!

Great customer service and awesome music store! I went to the music store late in the afternoon and was greeted by the employees behind the register when I entered the store. They have a wide range of new and preowned music albums (and even VINYL records) & DVDs! I went there to purchase SuperM's album and for the promotional SuperM pin, and before I could even ask for help, one of the employees approached me and asked if I was looking for their album. She led me to where the albums were located and even had a short conversation about the albums with her! (I didn't catch her name, but thank you for your help!) The album was in excellent condition and I'm pleased with my purchase and how great the customer service was! Planning to go back here soon! :) Thank you!

Nice atmosphere, nice service. I wanted to get some cds, one recent and a few old ones, found only the recent cd was in 'new' condition, the old ones were used. Later I found that the new cd I got was 2 dollars cheaper here than in Barns & Noble.

been coming here for years. you can get CDS, Dvds, video games and records here new and used. I love buying used CDs and movies cuz you can get them at a fraction of the cost of a new one. They also buy everything listed above.....love this place C:

Careful not to fall for the Trade/Sell for Cash ads they put out for places like this.. they're really picky about what they want to re-sale and are willing to pay you for that matter. The first & last time I ever tried to get cash for a box of CD singles, the girl at the counter fed me BS about how Streetlight couldn't take them because "uhhhh . . . they're too scratched?" (as a question!) As for the better half of the store, this is a good place for hip-hop heads to find rare instrumentals and scratch records and has served me well over the years. It's also cool to see staff recommendation stickers posted on the good stuff.

I love this place even though I went shopping for my little brother. He is very much into vinyls and this place has the best selection for the type of music he loves. There bargain bin had some great albums he loved. Only thing is I bought a vinyl he had so we went to go return it and I took him with me. Well we ended up doing some shopping together and we left the store with about 4 more vinyls. He loved that store and plans on going back!

Love this place so much, I got a wonderful deal on the Beatles' Abbey Road that was priced down due to its condition, but the only thing wrong with it was a few little stains I wiped off and it looked and sounded good as new. Absolutely amazing store you gotta check it out if you're into great music!!
