"When staying near Moosehead Lake I went to the Stress Free Moose Pub for dinner and drinks; it’s a local spot in Greenville." - Matthew Kepnes

Stress Free Moose Pub & Cafe

Google
Lively little pub with a lovely outdoor seating space. My husband and I both ordered the fish and chips. I chose to substitute a baked potato and butternut squash for the chips. The food was great. Fish was crispy outside and moist and flaky inside. I don't know if they always have live music, but they did when we were there, which added to the experience. Friendly and helpful staff.

Google
Stress free moose??? More like, make my Bp go up moose. Yes, my food was very good, and everyone else did like their food. It was hot and flavorful. But the service is the thing that ruined the whole experience. Idk if this was just a bad night or what. But honestly it felt like we were specifically targeted to not be treated well. We watched as our waitress was running back and forth to other tables helping them, while we sat wait for drink for over 20 mins, even after our appetizer came out. After that it was like trying to flag down a boat to get her to grab a refill for us, then when she did, she forgot one of the refills for another 5-8 mins. Like I said maybe this is a one time thing and the rest of the time it is great, but this night was a pretty rough experience.

Google
Hands down the BEST burger I have ever had! There isn’t a bad seat in the whole restaurant. The server was friendly and it was a great place to relax and enjoy lunch!

Google
Live music and packed when we dined here Thursday evening. Great service and yummy dishes. We got haddock sandwich, nachos and lobster roll.

Jacob G.

Google
Great place! Laid back atmosphere and a friendly staff. Best fish and chips I've had in ages. Extremely good French fries, and best coleslaw I've had since the last time I was at my mom's house in NC. Best by far that I've ever had at a restaurant. The nachos were good too. Highly recommend.

Google
Delicious!! It was beautiful day so we sat upstairs on the outside patio. The breeze was perfect, the atmosphere was chill, the food was fantastic and the staff was extra friendly. A must try!

Vanessa L.

Google
Food has been consistently good over several years. Service was excellent.

James G.

Google
My wife and I ate supper here on a Saturday. I had the Haddock Florentine. Outstanding! My wife had Steak Tips, as he said they were extremely good also. Our server was very good and even though there was a 10 minute wait to get an outside table, the service was prompt, and accurate. I’ll definitely eat here again when I visit Greenville again.

Tom J.

Yelp
The experience here was okay. The food, drink, and atmosphere were good, but are bartender was questionable. I believe his name was Aaron. He was not personable and seemed to find his job daunting. Rarely came to check on us, and his attire seemed to be relatively inappropriate. Again, food and environment were good. However, this bartender's service was most definitely lacking.

Yelp
The Stress Free Moose in Greenville is one of our favorite spots to stop for lunch whenever my wife and I are in town riding our side-by-side. The food is always great--fresh, hearty, and perfect after a day on the trails. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and the staff is consistently friendly. Whether we're grabbing a quick bite or sitting down for a relaxing meal, this place never disappoints. A must-visit whenever you're in Greenville!

Beth S.

Yelp
My husband loves this place for its prime rib on the weekends but it's also very good for lunch, nice soups and sandwiches. We bring folks who are visiting us in Maine here for a relaxing meal that's yummy!

Dana R.

Yelp
Very busy, but super laid back local pub, great service, delicious fresh food. Yum!! Lobster Mac n cheese is outstanding!

Yelp
What can I say about this place. Every season of the year it's amazing. Whether we come here by sled or four wheeler or our truck we love love love the stress-free lounge. All of their food is absolutely delicious and the service is excellent. I highly recommend the wings, the wedge salad and any of their chowders are phenomenal. Definitely a destination while in Greenville.

Kalyn B.

Yelp
The atmosphere looked promising but we were terribly disappointed. 1. Alcoholic drinks were so delayed; they arrived with our entrees. 2. Ordered the nachos for appetizer, the waiter said it wasn't possible to omit the black olives (like what??) on top. The cheese on top was one big glob and most chips didn't have any. The amount of chicken was minimal. 3. I ordered the summer salad with additional grilled chicken. The salad came out with shredded chicken that reminded me of canned chicken. And it was an extra $9! 4. Husband ordered fish and chips and he said that was good. He ordered green beans as a side and got coleslaw instead but the kitchen fixed it before we could complain. He said the green beans were tasty. 5. The kids had mac n cheese, that was standard. 6. Fries were good. Would absolutely not recommend.

Yelp
Excellent food and drinks ! Friendly and efficient staff. Great outdoor seating in the upper deck.

J. Y.

Yelp
By far my favorite. I stop in every time I'm in the area. Amazing staff and by far my favorite French fries in the state. No matter who is working I feel at home when I'm at Stress Free.

Yelp
Service was good despite the place being crowded. The vibe was fun and relaxed, with a pretty entertaining Bingo game going on. Food was good, drinks were okay. I will return next time I'm in the area.

Kerry M.

Yelp
Loved this place. Waitress was great. Food was great. Lobster roll was packed full of lobster meat. Fried clams were great. Our favorite place while staying in Greenville.

Yelp
Great food Great atmosphere and excellent and friendly service / located in Greenville- view of East Cove and in the summer you can eat outside with on their grounds or up on their deck.

Yelp
It's the StressFree Moose but the take out process today was Stressful. The restaurant flow was steady but not too busy. The ordering system is flawed, I noticed all the slips are hand written & a bit disorganized. While picking up my order I was directed to a register near the well/ drink pick up. The space was congested and it was a bit chaotic. The bartender blanked on whether or not we paid. The communication could've been a lot better and the ordering/payment system needs improvement. We called in 3 orders buffalo chicken wings, 2 cups chowder one bowl chili, caesar salad with grilled chicken and a pretzel. They forgot to make 2 orders of wings. They also didn't put Buffalo sauce in with the order we did received. Nor do they toss the wings in sauce unless specified. The chili was good! I wish the offered sour cream/ cheese with it. The chowder was not recommended, nor was the pretzel cheese. It was more of a paste than a cheese. The wings that were tossed in the Buffalo sauce were good, the plain ones were okay. When I went back for the two orders of wings they forgot. The order was in-fact prioritized and it came out very quick. The staff was apologetic and kind. However a staff member sitting outside with me mentioned they had a king busy day yesterday, so did everyone during the flu in weekend. I just didn't feel like that was a good excuse as to why they messed up today.

Yelp
It's loud, but the food we sampled (wings and chowder) were solid and well priced. Service was friendly and fast. Nothing particularly unique on the menu - it's pub fare done right. Definitely a spot locals frequent, and I can see why!

Ashton S.

Yelp
food is great, they had a sick playlist that made the whole mood fun and light, and my waitress was considerate it fit right in with my group. Five stars I will go again if I ever need a meal in greenville.
google avatar

Todd R.

Yelp
In all honesty I would probably give this 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling generous so I will round up to 4 stars. After a long day of hunting, my buddies and I stopped here for dinner. The place was loud and crowded, but we were seated quickly. The service was super friendly but very slow. The prices were fair and the food was decent pub fare. Nothing remarkable about this place but a good offering in Greenville ME.
google avatar

Karen R.

Yelp
This place is just like the other reviews say - loud, busy, and so much fun. If you want to go somewhere you can talk, this is not the place to go. If you're ready for some great local music, fun atmosphere, and good food, this is the place to go

Chris L.

Yelp
I want to be as fair as possible with this review. Service was good. They seated us quick and got us drinks super fast. We only ordered appetizers for our meal. This is we're things go off the rails. Everything that has a cheese component in it, is made with cream cheese, even the spinach artichoke dip was made with cream cheese. It was the craziest thing ever. Ordered pretzel with beer cheese, it also had cream cheese in it. Maybe it's a northern Maine thing and I'm not going to knock it. It's just when you are used to things being prepared one way universally, it's very off putting. It was for us. The ambience of the place was very nice and quaint, loved the outside deck upstairs. Locals seemed to love the bar area.

Lourdes E.

Yelp
Very rowdy, noisy bar. Service was very good as was the food. Open until 9 PM which was convenient. Reasonably priced. Very good music and vibes.
google avatar

Shelby Y.

Yelp
Food was good. Loved the outdoor patio! Had a great waitress. I had sirloin tips and my husband had ribs.

Yelp
We went here upon arriving in Greenville. We all enjoyed our meals, especially the salmon caesar salad and the fish and chips. We sat upstairs on the deck, the atmosphere and service were very pleasant. We liked it so much, we went back the next night!
google avatar

Carol H.

Yelp
The restaurant is pub fare with a very friendly vibe. We sat at the bar. Food is good and service was as well. Easy parking and the ability to walk from there into town was great. They have music on certain nights as well. Will definitely return.

Yelp
StressFree is a great spot for locals and tourists alike. Went for lunch here and had a fantastic meal. I had a special of summer berry salad to which I added grilled chicken. The berries were fresh, crisp greens, feta cheese, pecans, and perfectly cooked, juicy chicken. My friend had a cheeseburger and got the homemade chips. This burger was big with a fresh bun. The chips were delicious and crisp. Best part of the meal was soup my friend got. It was a special of Zuppa Toscana- if it is on the menu - get it! Creamy with potatoes, spinach, and sausage. Very friendly waitstaff. Will definitely be back!

Kristi T.

Yelp
large party had steak tips, NY strip, haddock Florentine. everything was amazing. highly recommended the pain killer!

Yelp
Double decker place with a patio is awesome when weather is nice. Lobster tails were better tasting than Jameson lobsters but not bigger. Thought I was getting two whole lobsters but my fault for not reading. The sides were just eh. Sweet mash needs more maple and flavor. The butternut was ok. Lobster Mac was great with big claw meat. The Reuben would skip as it was weird tasting no good. Lobster roll was decent. Had the clam roll and that was tasty with the tarter. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Still could use a sauce or something on the bread. The ribs fell off bone and were great. Bacon wrapped scallops were ok. The syrup was a little watery. East side cider was probably best cider I've ever had. Should have bought some before I left. Great spot with good choices.

Yelp
We decided to visit Greenville for a friend's birthday, none of us having been there during all our years in Maine. We settled on the Stress Free Moose almost by default, it being one of those towns where a lot of places close on Mondays. Our original intent had been for brunch, but the Moose opened at 11:00, so lunch worked for us just fine. The server, fairly new to the area herself, was great. She set us up with strong coffee and ice water and left us to peruse the typed, two-page pub menu. Whole belly clams are usually a big draw for me, and the price was quite reasonable, but for some reason I opted for the fish and chips entree. It was the best fish ad chips I remember having for years, so much so that I may be reluctant to order it elsewhere for a while out of a feeling that they couldn't match up. The fries were tender inside and also very good. The cole slaw serving was larger than it usual is as a side in these places, but it was no hardship as it was smooth and tasty. We skipped dessert, except for a takeout birthday order of Tiramisu for our friend. I can only imagine how busy this restaurant and indeed Greenville itself gets on a summer weekend. We plan to come back for a boat ride on Moosehead Lake and even if we come on a different day when more places are open, I imagine we will step into the Stress Free Moose again. Yelp
Not my favorite. It took over two hours to get our food and it seemed like all the locals who came in after us got their food first. I guess we must have stuck out like a sore thumb that we were not from around there. The salmon was dry and not season at all. The squash was mushy it had been put to long or rewarmed over several times yuk yuk We had to ask several times for refills on our drink and even then they weren't coming to our table. The overall feeling that I got from this place that they didn't appreciate people from out of town coming to eat there definitely won't be back don't waste your time.

Yelp
What a charming and quaint location! Definitely not formal but certainly fun. Staff was pleasant and friendly and I would definitely return!

Yelp
Sorry to have to post a one star review. Being plant-based we knew the Stress Free Moose (SFM) would not offer a lot of plant-based options. But looking over the menu, we found fries, pretzels and fried Brussels Sprouts. Entering, the atmosphere looked like a cool, local bar/restaurant and was pretty busy considering it was mid-October and the season had wound down. The server was pretty quick to get to us and took our drink order, which took awhile since the first 4 beer styles I tried to order were out, so I ended up ordering an Oxbow Brewing Farm House Pale ale. I then asked if the server if the Squash/Pumpkin soup had dairy and she said yes it had cream. After she return with our beverages, I asked if the sprouts had butter in them, she checked and confirmed they used butter. So down to the fries and a soft pretzel with mustard or beer cheese sauce, obviously the beer cheese was out, so we ordered the pretzel with mustard. Upon tasting the beer, it was not a pale ale, it was more than likely the Allagash White with a slight infection from dirty tap lines. When the pretzel came, I tore off a piece and bit into a butter soaked pretzel. WHAT? After asking about dairy and butter and saying I could not have dairy, here it was. I asked the server about the butter and she said that how they get the salt to stick on the top. Wait, didn't I tell her I couldn't eat dairy. So I asked for the check so we could go find other food to eat. She said she would be right back with the check. When she returned, she dropped the check on the table and was off. After waiting several more minutes, she returned and literately snatched the check and credit card up. Wow, did I upset her because I could not eat the food. Probably, but I ended up paying the $41 dollar bill with the pretzel included, tipped her 10% on the subtotal without the pretzel and left. Bottom line on this place is they do not care if you have food allergies/sensitivities and were not accommodating in the least. Why not offer to check with the kitchen to see if the Brussels Sprouts could be made with oil instead of butter? Or so sorry I didn't mention the butter on the pretzel.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service, outdoor patio for sitting with the dogs. We came her after the boat driver on the Mt Kineo shuttle recommended it after our 5 mile hike. It was the perfect end to the day with the kids and the dog. My wife got the haddock sandwich, which she said was one of the best she's ever had. The Reuben was amazing, the giant pretzel was off the chain! This place was so good, we went a second time in our way out of town. The only thing I would change about this place is the host situation, which tends to crowd the door and there are rules about where children can and can't be, which makes it feel weird while trying to get your family to a table. Stress free is a great spot for beer and food!

Emily J.

Yelp
Great stop on the way home from a long day at Moosehead Lake! We got seated right away outside and had great service. We had a party of 9 and everyone enjoyed their food! We especially loved the wedge salad!
google avatar

Sue L.

Yelp
Fun place for lunch. My husband loved the burger. The fries and chips were very crispy and tasty, but a bit greasier than I prefer. The eggrolls tasted good, but the grease had gotten inside making the whole very greasy. They dripped the whole time I was eating them and I only ate the filling of 2. The staff were excellent! We will come back again and I will avoid fried.

Grace K.

Yelp
Make sure the hostess writes down your name. We went for lunch party of 4 on 7/6 around 1 pm. It was busy. I gave the hostess our name and number in party and said we'd be outside. After 40 minutes waiting something didn't seem right. I went in to inquiry about the wait and the hostess told me I was never there while showing me the waiting list. I said I looked right at you and gave my name. You didn't write it down. She shrugged and did not care or offer any solution. Surly and poor customer service. Q

Yelp
Depends what you want? I found it to be more of a bar than a restaurant. I bit on the noisy side with the locals at the bar. Food was ok. Prices were good. Service at the bar was a little slow. Not sure if I would go back. Maybe just for drinks. Lots of nicer options just down the street.

Emily G.

Yelp
Excellent service and really great "bar food"; but don't let the Prime Rib dinner fool you.... Enough for 2-3 people! Also, if you're looking for a northern Maine woods experience, this is the place to go!Buffalo Chicken Salad

Yelp
We went on a Sunday afternoon to grab a bite to eat. Yes, it was noisy inside, but we were fortunate enough to grab a table upstairs, outside on a beautiful sunny day. We did have the best Reuben around- we've been on a mission, as in the Freeport area we've encountered soggy bread (too much oil on the grill) and a puny sandwich with barely any meat. Stress Free Moose by far has the best we've had to date! Like the Reuben, the service was top notch. Chelsea was not only attentive, she had a smile on her face the whole time. Kuddos to her, the Stress Free is lucky to have her. We will be back!
google avatar

Jimmy C.

Yelp
Staci & her staff were friendly & welcoming late on a Saturday night. The drinks & food & desserts were great! Don't visit the area without stopping by!
google avatar

Marcela R.

Yelp
Such good food! Everything we got was high end top quality food. I'm a vegetarian and they bent over backwards to serve me which I so appreciate it. Husband and kids loved the haddock and the turkey and pastrami sandwiches. And their house chips are seriously to die for! highly recommend, excellent service, great location and just plain great food. each time we come to Moosehead we stop here at least a couple times.
google avatar

Kate N.

Yelp
Eat anywhere but here. The hostess yelled at our kids (and then at me) for walking to the restroom by themselves (they are eight and eleven and perfectly capable of walking alone to the bathroom in a small restaurant). The food is not good and over-priced. The atmosphere is FAR from laid back (we were told upon walking in by a very stressed out server that the wait would be very long and so we should be prepared to not order upon sitting for at least 20 minutes). If you want to be stress free... don't eat at the Stress Free Moose.
google avatar

Regan P.

Yelp
Food was good, fast and friendly service. Clean and accommodating. Will definitely be back.

Edward B.

Yelp
Great food, best place to eat & Drink, even if you think it's busy stop in, holds a lot of people

Kim B.

Yelp
Have been many times! Enjoy the Mahi Mahi Tacos... tonight when ordered server made it clear that I was only getting two tacos & did I want a side. Didnt get a side ... per my choice. would have been nice to get something other than two tacos...a pickle at least! Other times more was on plate fir same price. Burger too ordered..came with chips... asked if wanted upgrade to fries or loaded fries..got loaded fries on the side of plate small portion..was charged 8.95 for them! 2 draft beers- no price on menu 10.00 each! Service to was slow- had one server for a Saturday evening. We spoke with server re our issues asked where we were from! we told her & then we also mentioned we had a place in town. A bit disappointed in the service & the pricing. We understand that prices have gone up but 70.00 plus tip for a burger & 2 tacos with no side was ridiculous!

Yelp
Laid back. Comfortable. Nice, down to earth waitress. Lots of food - and drink options. Tried a couple of the Maine beers and moonshine. All were really good. We sat outside which was enjoyable too.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband had the lobster roll it had a lot of lobster on it he said it was delicious. I had the prime rib sandwich and it was very good. We splurged and had carrot cake and it was outstanding and we loved the atmosphere of this restaurant and the friendly staff.
google avatar

Kristina B.

Yelp
Good atmosphere but food needs improvement! Service was just okay! Mahi-mahi tacos were over done. Nachos had Tostitos salsa. Prime rib was just ehh not the best and not the worst. Outdoor seating was nice. Overall Moosehead - Grenville area this is an okay meal but would not crave the food
google avatar

Clay B.

Yelp
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here very much. The lobster roll was packed with meat. My wife's prime rib sandwich was great also. Topped off with the best carrot cake we've had for a long time. Our waitress KK was very friendly and helpful and I even got to see a moose and we liked their Maine humor as you can see from this picture in the men's restroom :)

Danielle N.

Yelp
We stopped here on our way back home from a trip to Mt. Katahdin. We ordered poutine (which we never got because our waitress forgot to put it in), a pastrami Reuben (my husband said was really good but doesn't come with fries, so we paid extra), and fish and chips. The fish was nice and crispy and really good. The coleslaw wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad either. I ordered an iced tea (sweetened) but I didn't like it too much as they used honey to sweeten it instead of sugar. My husband wanted me to give this 4 stars because his Black and Tan was "as close to perfect as I expected." Our meal was kind of expensive ($63) and we're almost 2 hours away so we won't be back.

Bryan G.

Yelp
We go here often. Always a winner. Even in peak seasons, they make it happen. Great wait staff and food always hot and as advertised. Don't know how they do it, but glad they pull it off.

Sr M.

Yelp
Bloody Mary! I wish I had the time to drink more than one! Also had Nachos with chili, just the right amount of everything on the chips. The staff was very friendly, enjoyed talking to them.
