I‘ve been visiting the facility during my time in Long Beach and I can highly recommend It. I had many great gym sessions here, you will find everything you wish for: pool, basketball court, indoor track… The atmosphere is awesome.

Beautiful facility. Well designed and anyone can walk in and begin their fitness journey. Tours are given any day of the week no appointment needed. Go beach.

staff is so sweet and friendly, everything is always clean and put in place (to a reasonable extent) love that students get in free!

This facility has everything you can imagine to accommodate a healthy life style. Very well kept. Very well managed. The classes are so wonderful. WHAT, this place has indoor rock climbing too.

My go to gym during the summer and winter breaks. I also utilize the rec during the semester in between classes and its awesome just seeing everyone and how diverse the CSULB community is. During the semester, weekends aren't as crowded but I can't say the same for in between classes. However, everyone is friendly and being in an environment that encourages fitness through a variety of different activities such as basketball, racquetball, rock climbing, indoor soccer, fitness classes, weight lifting, the opportunities are endless. For anyone who goes to CSULB, definitely take advantage of this state-of-the-art facility. I love this place.

The most beautiful gym I have ever been in and service is outstanding

as an alumnus, the rec is my best kept secret, and for good reason! i’ve been going to the rec since it’s opening in 2011; and have yet to find another gym that is as well-kept as the rec. gym goers here—whether they’re students or community members—are very polite, say excuse me, and re-rack and wipe down the equipment most of the time. it is never super busy on the weekends or in the summers (my favorite time to go). avoid peak hours 1-7pm during the semester if you can.

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center (SRWC) is a state-of-the-art recreation facility located on the east side of the California State University, Long Beach campus. Its area is about 126,500-square-foot. The building is two-story. SRWC is a hub for recreational activities, programs, and opportunities for Intramural Sports, Fitness, and Wellness services.

Best place to play basketball. Courts regularly maintained. 3 full courts. Clean, free ball check out, bench seating. Calling all basket ball playing alumni's, join up!

I really wish this gym was closer to my home. Being an alumni, I had gone back but the driving distance and lack of parking to enter the facility makes it really tough. Anyways, from my undergrad experience, the rock climbing wall was one of the best to get people into rock climbing. Secondly, the indoor running track provides space to the overall gym giving it a less crowded environment, and the equipment provided was well utilized. You often had people hogging the weight section so there was never really a good time to use that. The yoga and pilates classes or individual courses were offered but it never seemed to be around when a majority of students were available to use it. I really liked the Robeks that was on the first floor. I'm not sure if it's there anymore, but it's nice to had a large indoor seating area to eat before you actually went into the gym to study.

Eleven years later and the SRWC continues to impress. They no longer allow cell phone usage in the locker rooms and everything there, from the equipment to the classes to the amenities, is great! And if you're looking for an affordable professional massage, go see Shireen or Matt at BeachBalance. Now, if they could just get a hot sauna/cold plunge, life would be very close to perfect!

I graduated 10 years ago and still love going there! Great yoga classes and wonderful pool that feels like a getaway. Massages have been great too. Feels safe and the entire facility is always clean.

This review is specifically for the outdoor equipment all rental center at the Rock Wall. It's great that the university offers outdoor equipment, but I think it's such a neglected service that people aren't really aware that it exists and staff aren't sure how to go about it. If you search on the SRWC website, you'll find that there's member and nonmember daily rental rates. But whenever you ask the SRWC staff about trying to do a nonmember rental, they always have to call someone to check if it's allowed and it just goes around in a big circle that's more of a hassle. The rental center also only opens at 3pm which is an awkward time. My friend rented a hybrid bike, and it really doesn't seem like the rental service gets utilized because staff weren't sure what to do. We eventually get a bike, and the tires are under-inflated but it seems like the gear shifting worked well enough. We didn't realize until later, but the tube and tire ended up being seated on the wheel improperly which is what later caused the entire thing to blow up later during our ride. Pretty lucky that it didn't happen in a high-traffic area. Short story is, if you rent a bike from here, make sure you give it a quick look-over, test the brakes, shifting, etc before you ride off. Otherwise, bikes seem of decent quality for cheap rental rates. We brought this up to a manager on the day of our equipment return, and they were very apologetic and concerned about the incident. I'm satisfied with the manager's follow-up actions, but I do think it reflects poorly on the university to mismanage equipment like this.

WOW! I just transferred from Rio Hondo College in Whitter to CSULB. During SOAR Orientation, the Student Recreation & Wellness Center (SRWC) was one of the campus amenities that was strongly promoted to the new students. So, I quickly paid a visit and was VERY impressed! PROS: The running track was ideal for me because it is a luxury that many gyms do not have. I don't like treadmills and the running track at the SRWC provides a great view of the campus while still providing a great workout. My knees and heels do not feel the stress of pounding the pavement either so I suspect that the track is built with some type of shock absorbing flooring. CONS: None. Mens locker room does fill up fast and locker space is limited at times. You can use a locker in the hallway as a last resort. TIPS: Ask for a tour if this is your first time here. Log in with your Student ID#. First time visitors needs to register at the main desk. No body shaming here. I've lost 70 lbs over the past couple of years and the vibe you get here is of students just trying to alleviate stress while having a good time. Small towels are available for free. Large body towels are available at a cost. Lockers are free and require a 4 digit code of your own chosing. Mens showers have body soap in each stall. Love this place. I love killing it up with my girls on the stair master. However, my favorite thing to do here is to people watch, of course...

A Gym ran by fellow students of CSULB!! First floor: check in station, Robeks Juice Bar, lounge that offer charging stations, Cardio/Weight Gym equipments, Lockers, Basketball Court, Rock wall, Pool. Second floor: Massage Therapy room, Classes (yoga,etc), Running track, Cardio and Weight equipment. Overall a great clean gym which is ran by the students here at CSULB and the gym is included with the school tuition. Non students can pay a $10 daily fee to use the amenities here. Parking is within walking distance roughly 5-7min walk if you park in the structure near lot 13?

After several years, I think my time at the rec center has finally come to an end. This review is geared towards alumni or anyone using the gym as a non-student. Many of the pros are still there. Bright, inviting space. The area is generally well-maintained and clean. Free classes are still offered. Probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing gyms here outside of the ultra fancy rich people gyms. A few things have slipped in recent years. Some machines are worn out (peeling handles, displays not working) and they don't seem to be repaired or fixed as often. Some staff members seem pretty grumpy; some areas seems a bit off and a little too crowded. However, my two biggest cons have become too big for me to ignore. As I grew older, I found the timings of the gym to be inconvenient. 10am opening on a Sunday... 6pm closing on a Saturday. 9pm weekday closing during winter/summer hours. These times worked less and less with my schedule as I moved through various jobs and life changes. And the biggest con of all... parking for non-students. You used to be able to park in the structure, at any time, with a gym membership parking pass (extra $). However, they changed that and now the parking is truly bizarre. It's only in a specific lot, sometimes only during certain hours, and the price has gone up significantly. I wish I remembered more of the details to tell you all, but when I heard the information my face literally went :O. You could purchase an hourly pass right next to the gym (pricey if you do this every day), or you can try your best for street parking along Palo Verde (not gonna happen on a school day). The only "easy" free option is to park across the street in the residential area for 1 hour, and run across Palo Verde to get to the gym. And then make sure your workout is approx 45 minutes so you can run back before you possibly get a ticket. After YEARS of doing this, I'm over it.

I love going to the rec and I've been a student here for 3 years now.. but the past two weeks of me going to the rec has been hell. The app never works, and I always have to wait in the Long line just to get checked in. The lady at the front desk today was so rude for no reason. We're all students just trying to workout. No need to be so bitter. Have a better System or go back to reservations.

I love this facility! All of the workers are so nice and helpful, especially Kevin and Antonio at the intramural desk. They were very patient with me as I had many questions beginning my health journey. They went above and beyond in assisting and making my introduction to the SRWC as easy as possible.

I love this gym! Of course I go to this school so that's probably why. Haha well this gym is nicer than most gyms I've been to. It just sucks when it gets crowded! One downside is that there's no sauna. That would've been perfect but then again too many people would use it. And it would probably be gross. The good thing is that this gym have a rock climb wall, basketball courts, raquetball courts, swimming pool, jaccuzi, a track, and many machines that you can use to work out. They even have free spinning or yoga classes. There's many other classes too but I'm not sure what kind. Just look at their bulletin if anything. But like how awesome is that? They have almost everything! Anyways, I just love this gym. It's paid within your student tuition if you are a student at CSULB. So yeah, that's a plus. You can also get points for a chance to win free tuition for a semester. I believe you need to finish the 50 points for that chance. Each day you go to the gym it is worth 1 point. At the half way point you get a small prize. So far I've gotten a stress ball, a bag, a blender bottle, and a juicer bottle. Who doesn't like free?? So make sure to punch in your CSULB student ID number! It makes you more motivated to workout too.

The gym itself is quite good, but the professionalism of the staff leaves something to be desired. It was scheduled to open today (1/22/17) at 10:00 AM. Nobody came to open the doors until after 10:20 while at least 50 of us were waiting in the rain. There was a rumor that the gym employee who was supposed to be there had been seen drinking on 2nd street the previous night, but you would think a gym of this size would have more than a single employee scheduled to work.

Um. Free rock wall climbing?! Yesss! On weekdays from 5-8PM, the workers will belay you for free. Also, you can rent a whole bunch of climbing, camping, water, bike, and even outdoor picnic equipment for super cheap.

One of my favorite places to go and workout!! Being a CSU rec center they are NOT open to public usage. The only people who have access to the facility or to purchase memberships are: Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and immediate family. This facility is always kept really clean. They have full time staff members in the AM and PM that keep the facility spotless... Not like a lot of other gyms I have been to where it always smells like sweat and just walking in the door I feel I need a shower. This facility is clean They are also one of the most advanced facilities I have been to. They have the newest version of many of the machines. The treadmills and ellipticals have screens and internet where you can make a profile and track/log your workouts. They have stairmills instead of stairsteppers and the spin bikes are awesome!! Dumbbells up to 100lbs., Indoor track (1/8 th mi. around), free nutrition counseling, friendly staff, indoor rock wall, Squash and racquetball courts... The list goes on and on... By far my favorite place to work out. Parking can sometimes be an issue -normal for a college campus.. However the benefits greatly outweigh the cost of having a little walk from your car.

Clean, spacious, and a wide variety of gym equipment and activities that are available for members! The pool, jacuzzi, restrooms, showers, lockers, and changing rooms are clean. The women's restroom has a dispensary for free access to pads, tampons, and condoms. There is a rock climbing area, equipment rental area (bikes, tents, camping gear, water gear, etc), indoor track, racquetball court, basketball court, and badminton court. The gym provides clean towels for working out. There are areas for private workouts or group workouts. A very safe, fun, and clean space to exercise!

After all my time at CSULB it took me until this Fall to actually try out the Rec Center. One of my friends comes here everyday and encouraged me to join her. Signing up was easy, just walk up to the front counter and tell them this is your first time and they will get your started, just give em your student ID number and you are set. They take your finger/handprint (that is how you get in), just put you hand on the handy dandy scanner and voilà you are in. The gym is absolutely amazing, better than the LA Fitness near my house. I like to come in after class and get my workout on. They have a massive amount of machines including cardio and strength training both upstairs and downstairs. They have free weights as well. Make sure that you wipe your equipment down when you are finished, there is spray stations with paper towels available. They have a couple basketball courts and swimming pools if you like those types of things. They have classes like spin, butts and guts, and yoga (just to name a few). They do have personal trainers for a nominal fee as well. Being a student has its perks and this is definitely one of them.

So far my favorite gym Pros: - free towels for you to use - iphone/ipod charger on the ellipticals - TVs on the ellipticals - clean, hand sanitizers everywhere - bottle refill station (separate from water fountain) - well ventilated (not stuffy and no smells) - 3 rooms for classes - every type of machine you can think of - lockers are key locks (no need to bring your own lock) Cons: - no sauna/steam rooms - need parking pass to park nearby I love this place. It's a great place to get a good work out in. It's great for students that have a long break or before or after class.

For a CSU, this place is quite awesome. The electronic lockers, multiple workout accessories, towel service, and seating areas. The music changes from Top 40 to electronic which keeps me motivated. What's also pretty cool was the wall of CSULB National Champions and Olympians, a definite inspiration to keep you going. My only knock are the rooms. I wish there were more rooms for people to do their individual things: choreograph, workout, & etc. Advice: * Beware of traffic hours (evenings). It gets super busy such as weight rooms or multi-purpose rooms. * There is a lounge next to Robeks where you can study before you workout. * If you're one of those meal preppers, there's a microwave to warm your food, but do it before Robeks closes * Check the electronic lockers are working before you use store your stuff inside, it gets pretty irritating to store your stuff, set the lock only to realize it's deadbolted or broken. ._.

My last college I didn't utilize the gym often enough that after graduation, I acquired a muffin top that refused to leave no matter how often I tried running miles around my house so now that I'm back for a Nursing degree, I'm like here everyday I have class. Clean, new looking, fresh, slightly cool with all the glass panes, biometric entry scanners, and techie filtered water dispensers with a panel to inform you how many plastic bottles you helped save cuz you were using a dispenser to fill your reusable water bottle. It's got your weight lifting apparatuses, weight lifting machines, rows of cardio machines, I think I spotted some giant funballs somewhere, a indoor track over the basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, a sand volleyball court, a lane pool, a water polo pool, and a 24 person jacuzzi. Yes that is correct. a 24 person jacuzzi. Locker's are nifty electronic custom-self-code locked (you put your stuff in, make up a code and it'll lock so don't forget your locker or your code). Showers have a non-constant temperature and oscillates between warm to room temp which usually leaves you short of being cold. Plus it operates on a push to timed dispense mechanism which is great for budgeting and preventing running showers if some douche leaves the shower and walks away but seriously its like a 30 second timer... Big GRIPE is there's no shower towels. There's these tiny hand towels that I believe are called "sweat towels" (grossss ~_~) that are like super cheap quality and so need to be replaced cuz they're like rough and ragged. No shower towels. Theres showers. Theres pools. Theres a big 24 person hot tub of fun. its BYOT (bring your own towel) for the showers. OR if I didn't come with all my clothes to change and my own personal towel...I suppose I could use that ragged small towel to wipe myself down and use the swimsuit dryer/centrifuge to dry the towel and continue wiping myself while I stand nekkid in the shower room. AAGH my eyes! please have some decency! I know we're all "bro-"s but puhleeease drop the "-mancing" in the shower area!

Dear CSULB rec center staff, Please add more stairmasters because they are always taken. kthx. Weekends are the best time to go. So few people and so much space. This gym is very clean and the machines are fairly new. I love the complimentary towels. Robeks right at the entrance. What more can I ask for?

One of my favorite spots on campus. It is always air conditioned and spotless. The women who clean the locker rooms are so thorough. I wish the rest of the campus was this clean. There are usually plenty of machines to go around and people are willing to share if you are just waiting. It is definitely a little awkward when you are the only girl lifting with the boys though. I always feel like i'm being judged, so I am constantly thinking, 'is my form right? do i look like an idiot? are my armpits shaved? (hehe)'. Also after your workout you can stop at Robeks for a protein smoothie! YUM!

This gym is absolutely the best. Just the very name already captivates you and doesnt associate itself with connotations of sweat, grunting, and big body builders: Recreation and Wellness Center. The gym is fairly newly built from what Ive heard, so everything inside is more modern and light as opposed to other school gyms. There is an abundance of equipment so that even if you travel to this place during one of those "high times," your wait will not be worth mentioning. Inside there are two levels with the top level having a track for people to run laps around. There is more equipment too like certain rooms for certain activities, but an indoor track is definitely worth mentioning. Other things worth mentioning are the many basketball courts, a separate room/court for volleyball and badminton, racquetball, and even a rock climbing wall. i do not know the price of this gym off the top of my head, but i do know that if you want to, you do not have to be a student to sign up for a membership (which is highly recommended considering the luxury of this gym). The people are always nice, from those that give you that towel to those that will take your handprint to sign you up. Love this place and will continue to go here until i graudate and possibly even after i graduate.

This is one of those gyms that actually makes you WANT to go work out. I'm seriously kicking myself for waiting until my last semester at CSULB to use it. State of the art equipment and awesome views through the huge windows from virtually every part of the gym. The indoor track is hands down my favorite part of the gym since I find running on a treadmill boring and unnatural. Whenever I'm in there, there's always a cleaning person constantly wiping down the counters and floors keeping the place remarkably clean considering the number of girls in the locker room. So clean in fact that many walk around barefoot (ew), but to each her own I suppose. My only issue is that there are no shelves or hooks in the showers to hang anything and I refuse to go walking through the locker room naked. Also there seems to be an afternoon rush hour around 5, which is usually when I am heading out, and hordes of girls are coming in frantically searching for lockers which are all used up. So if you come during the rush hour you should probably leave your stuff in the car if possible.

I came by today for the first time ever and was pleasantly surprised by the crowd. Who goes to the gym on a Friday? Let alone, are there that many classes at CSULB on a Friday? One can only imagine how busy the gym gets during rush hour (MTuWTh evenings I bet). This gym offers several 24-hour-fitness-like group classes such as Yoga and Zumba. There's also a juice bar and plenty of seats to just sit/rest/study. I'd also like to add, the ventilation is great (even my stuffy nose was able to breathe through my run!). I also liked that the lockers are all electronically operated. I didn't have to use my locks this time-- whoo hoo! All if not most of the cardio machines have tv's too. My only complaint is that there just seems to be too little equipment for the population that CSULB serves. Nevertheless, I'm glad that this gym opened up! I guess it's better than nothing!

Best gym with updated and clean equipment!! I'm totally gonna stay a member even when I'm an alum ... one of the benefits of getting screwed by ASI fees

The rec is one star away from being as good as it gets! As one yelper put it, this is my happy place, where I go to relieve stress and feel better.The facilities are top-notch, as are the equipment and group fitness classes (my favorites are Flow Yoga and HIT). The reason why they get 4/5 starts are two reasons: 1. The people. Look ya'll........if you wanna have social hour GO TO THE USU OR SOME SHIT! If you wanna talk on your phone, check instagram, text, play with your proverbial dick via taking copious amounts of gym selfies, do that elsewhere. It's outrageously annoying waiting for a machine when you spend HALF the time on ya damn phone! Also, it's called deodorant, wear it. 1.5 The staff. Whenever I ask questions, y'all almost never know the answer to them nor do y'all make any concerted effort to try. To make things worse, I gotta wait for you to stop conversating with each other in order to get a word in edgewise. Go 'head and bask in the shade I just provided. *side eyes* 2. The 4 stairmasters....with one almost always being broken. How am I supposed to get a J.Lo booty when the stairmasters are alwaysssssssss taken!!

I just transferred here fall semester of 2015 and I haven't seen many college campus rec centers but csulb's rec center by far is pretty phenomenal. I'll list a break down of the majority of the facilities that they have here. Walking in you have to go through a biometrics handscan. You punch in your ID number and then place your hand in for it to be scanned. The first thing you'll see before the biometrics on the right side when you walk in is a lounge area where a lot of students study and hang out there. There is also a Robeks and they have yummy smoothies and other good treats and eats! Once you get passed the biometrics you'll see the main gym area. Equipped with almost 200 state of the art technology equipment and free weights that line the entire back wall next to the mirrors. You continue down the hall and to your left is their three basketball courts which is open rec for the students and members. If you want to get a basketball, volleyball, racquet for tennis, badminton or squash there is an intramurals check out window down the hall to the right. They also have stacks of small towels you can grab for your workout. Also if you are interested in putting a team together or joining a team you can sign up there! Continuing down the hall there's women's and men's locker rooms with over 200 lockers, and there are also showers, bathrooms, swimsuit showers and access to the pool and spa deck. The lockers are super easy to use. You create whatever four digit code and you punch that same one after you return for your workout. Don't have to worry about bringing a locker or renting anything. However if you want your own personal locker for the semester they have a section of lockers where you can purchase that space for the semester. Right before the end of the hall to the right leads outside to the sand volleyball court and the spa and pool deck. The pool deck to the left has lap swimming and right is recreational swimming. There are usually at least 2 lifeguards on duty and the way to access this area is through the locker rooms. At the end of the hall is the rock wall. Unfortunately there's no boulder, they do have a few bouldering routes but they're OK. The climbing staff here on the other hand though are phenomenal! Everyone working here and the climbing community here is super awesome. If you are new here someone is very happy to help you and they provide you with all the gear you need for FREE. They also rent out camping and other outdoor equipment for a very cheap price. Before the rock wall on the left is the Multi-Activity Court aka the MAC gym for badminton, volleyball and intramural sports, and to the right is two courts for squash and racquetball. When you go upstairs there's the indoor track (approx 8 laps is a mile), there's the spin bikes, 3 fitness rooms for the classes they offer here (Zumba, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, etc.) they have instructional classes that come at a small fee. But MAJORITY of the classes they offer here are practices and do not cost anything. I highly recommend taking a class here. The instructors are wonderful and you can get a really good work out in! Going down the upstairs hallway to the left they also have Beach Balance. Which offers psychological and health services. They talk about the mind, body and spirit and how to take care of ourselves not just physically but even in the way we take care of ourselves in what we eat and such. They have cool things everyday. Tuesdays are spa water Tuesdays so they have different water infusions with fruits and vegetables. Wednesdays are well rested Wednesdays so they set up hammocks and you can come in and take a nap! Continuing towards the end of the upstairs hallway to the left is the Cardio Theatre with more machines to work out with. There's an abundance of machines and equipment to work out with and there's really not going to be a place where you can't find to workout at! Overall an amazing and great recreation center for students. I definitely have used it to my advantage and encourage anyone else who comes here to do the same since it's free!!

Very nice facility. Everything is new and clean. Even has an indoor running track upstairs. If you want to do cardio, this is your spot. The free weight area is tiny! Disappointing free weight area for the size of this place. Expect to wait to use everything there. They have several nice basketball courts. Beware of the douchy frat guys playing ball. My favorite thing here is the rock wall! Get your climbing on! Get to know the peak hours so that you can avoid the overcrowding.

Absolutely awesome school gym. Everything you need here and beats going to 24 or la fitness! If you're a student, definitely take advantage!! It's part of your tuition and it's the best gym so far. There are rock climbing walls, courts for many, racquet ball, basketball, volleyball, lots of uses. Spin classes available. Kickboxing, yoga, you name it! It's available! Plus everyone who works here love it and are kickass! Me, I just come for the squat rack, bumper plates, and the track upstairs. Plus there's alot of random area pockets of machines you can use when main areas are packed. And it usually is so it's hard to be courteous to others when weights are already everywhere.

The new rec center here is really nice inside. New equipment, great sports facilities, and I love the locks. The locks are keypad style where you can just pick a locker and come up with a passcode to program into it that's good until it gets reset. No need to rent locks or anything. The main weight area feels a little cramped compared with other rec centers I've been to, but the equipment is pretty top notch. The upstairs area has a lot of good cardio equipment, and a few areas of TVs as well. It's smaller than the ARC at UCI and UCD, but definitely on par in terms of equipment quality. Oh, and it gets crowded. Like, really crowded. But I suppose it's a good thing that so many people care about health! Or just like to take up space at the gym. Not sure which one is more applicable.

When you're paying tuition out of pocket and the rec center is part of the tuition, it's advised you at least go to the gym and check it out. Wow, this place is like an Olympic arena. We took a tour of the facility and the whole time, my jaw was on the floor. Where else can you find a track to run on, a whole cardio section (top and bottom floor) open space weight room, a swimming pool, beach volleyball, and...hold up....a rock wall to climb!?!?! CSULB, round of applause...tuition spent well. Came here with the cousins to do some lifting. I know, girls who lift, right?!?! Well, my cousin showed us a few lifting moves, but I was only able to lift a small amount of weight. Those bars alone with out any additional weights are heavy already! We ran, worked on our legs, arms, abs (the core), and more. I was sore form all those squats...it's become hard to sit. Anyhoo, love that the locker rooms are updated and modern with electronic locks. Plus, it helps that it's super clean. The staff is very friendly and they have student trainers, who seem knowledgeable about exercise. My goal is to do a pull up. Just one pull up. If I am able to do more, it's gonna be pretty amazing. Let the training begin!

This is my happy place!! FREE CLASSES: Instructors are SO wonderful and make working out so fun! My faves are yoga with Jessi and Tyler& High Intensity Training with Nat! come 15 mins early to ensure ur spot! CARDIO MACHINES: Clean & there's TV screens in front of the machines so make sure to bring earphones! WEIGHTS: i never use them cause all the bulky dudes make me intimidated but there's lots of equipment! INDOOR TRACK: If i were a runner, I'd TOTALLY be all over dis! Good for those days when it's scorching hawwwt outside, bc there's A/C here! FREE MASSAGES, FREE FRUIT INFUSED WATER, BIG BEAUTIFUL POOL(which i never use) & RACQUETBALL AND ROCKCLIMBING ARE FUN AND FREEE!! Take advantage!!! Things i wish could be improved on: They used to play EDM here but sadly they don't play music anymore. I always forget my earbuds & for some reason my workouts on the elliptical seem to go by much faster when there's high beat music playing. :( Student workers: The workers could be a liiiiitle more approachable and friendly. My interaction with one: Me: Hi! Do you guys have a lost and found? Her: Yes. *stares at me blankly* Me: ...uhhh where is it? But i mean, you can't expect much from student workers so i'll let it slide. Despite the few cons, i still give this rec center 5/5! :)

Equipment -The rec center has basically EVERYTHING you would want in a gym -Benches, squat racks, machines, cardio machines -The only set back is that during the school year the benches and squat racks get pretty busy so you'll have to wait 10-15 minutes for your turn -I would recommend maybe one or two more benches and squat racks -THEY EVEN HAVE AN INDOOR TRACk! -Basketball courts, badminton courts, volleyball courts, a section for indoor soccer, -THEY EVEN GIVE OUT FREE TOWELS!!!! Etc -This is an excellent place for Csulb students but kind of expensive for regular people!

Never missed a day where I couldn't head to the gym. I love going to this place during my breaks between classes. Usually, I arrive early morning to get my day started. When I begin my workouts, most of the equipment is available to use. Early morning is usually pretty open. As the day passes, on some days when I arrive around 3/ 4 pm, it gets packed. The gym is nice and spacious. Some days cleaner than others, but overall, a lot of variety of classes and work out equipment. Great for entertainment as well. Some classes do take place in the practice rooms upstairs, so there won't be private rooms to work out in. Though i prefer to use the same machines, they only have one machine for each exercise I typical do. I have noticed in more recent times, more machines have been down for maintenance as they have been over used/ improperly used and broken. They just decided to take some broken machines down, so their selection is narrowing down.

This is an awesome gym. The AC is always running and they give you towels for sweat or for shower, whatever you need it for. It's a nice gym and it's included in the tuition, so take advantage of it. I love the indoor running track on the second floor. It has nice padding on the track, so that your knees and joints are protected [= it's so awesome to be able to run on a padded track field while having a/c !

I love the gym at CSULB. I am a student so I have access to it each semester -- it is very spacious (two levels) and there are a good number of cardio machines and weights. It's very clean, airy and bright -- there are a lot of different services to take advantage of inside, too. There are fitness classes, rock climbing wall, indoor track and many other ways to get exercise in without using a machine. I especially love the Beach Balance office, where you can check your blood pressure, body fat percentage, talk to a nutritionist or even get a massage. There are lockers to use throughout the gym and inside the locker room. I have not used the showers, so can't say much about them. The gym has the potential to get really busy in the morning and evening, so plan your visit accordingly. The only thing I wish this gym had that I loved at LA Fitness is a sauna/steam room.

Oh My Gawd. I don't say that often, but this place deserves it. Let me just start with the list: - Indoor track - 3 Indoor b-ball courts - 2 Indoor racquetball (I hope that's spelled right) courts - Sports rentals (bikes, surf crap, camping crap, b-ball/volleyball (free), badminton/racquetball (free) etc) - Rock Climbing wall - TV's on most cardio equipment (the winter X games made me cycle forever!) - Plenty of free classes (like kickboxing, cycle, etc) - Free nutrition counseling (don't know if it's students only) - 3 hours of free personal training - Beach volleyball court - 2 indoor volleyball courts - Big jacuzzi - Free digital lockers (really 24hr, I have to pay for a G-D locker?) - Nice pool with 3 lanes (not much) and water volleyball (polo?) court - Cardio area with a huge screen made up of a mess of different tvs on different channels (all become one channel for game day!) - Free towels and I think I'm forgetting something... oh yeah, did I mention the FREAKING 25 FT ROCK CLIMBING WALL!??!?! Also this place has huuuggee glass windows so you can see the sunset, and they auto shade so there's no sun in your eyes. I can't wait till a rainy day, I already went on a gloomy day and it looks beautiful inside there. The second I walked in I said, "This is where I'm going to get into the best shape of my life" and I hope I'm right! (though it's a bit grim since I'm pretty much stating that I'm gonna turn into a slob after this gym, which will probably happen since all other gyms suck now) If you can just get a tour, do it, regardless of whether you're gonna go there or not... just wear a backpack or something and walk around. :) Also, did I mention how pretty the girls are here, because there are a lot of pretty people. :))

I started at CSULB when this gym was only a year or two old, and I feel so lucky to have had access to it during my time there! The rec center is a giant building right off of Palo Verde - you can't miss it. It's a beautiful two story building with a lot of windows. To get into the gym, you scan your hand and a gate opens. It's so cool and high-tech! I registered my hand during Freshman orientation, and it worked during all my years there. Like I said, the gym is two stories, and has everything you can think of - so many machines spread throughout the building. I like how there are a lot of treadmills and ellipticals on the 2nd floors looking out the windows because you can people watch while you work out. Also, there is a track on the 2nd floor, which has three lanes (walking, passing, and running). My favorite part of the gym was the free group classes they offered! I have taken yoga, Pilates, butts & guts, and a few others. Being in those classes are more fun and helps you to not slack off. The locker rooms are great and have so many lockers that are available for use, and you don't even need to bring a lock! You just type in a code to lock it. The locker rooms also have showers available for use, which is very helpful to a lot of students. There are a lot of things this pool has to offer that I'm sad I never tried out, like raquetball, basketball, rock climbing, and swimming. I just graduated and I already miss this gym!

The CSULB Rec center is by far the most technologically advanced and clean gym I've been to. If you're a student, be sure to take advantage of what this facility offers. It houses an indoor track, basketball court, racquetball, rock climbing, soccer, volleyball. An outdoor jacuzzi, pool, and sand volleyball. Locker room offers technological locks, where a security code can be inputted. Shower rooms have curtains as opposed to some other gyms. Towels are provided. Cardio machines are equipped with personal televisions, and ipod chargers. Place is kept pristine clean. There is an indoor snack(healthyish stuff) store. A lounge is present near the entrance, so if you're tired after a workout, go and study. There are weight stations on the first and second floors, as well as cardio machines. Dumbells are present on both floors as well. Acticity classes such as yoga and dancing are offered. Seriously, if you're a student and not taking advantage of this gym, you're missing out. It's by far the cleanest gym. Not to mention being in a gym of people near my age is a much more motivating atmosphere.

This gym is great! Conveniently next to where I normally park. PROS: Indoor track, towels, bball courts, plenty of cario, rock climbing, pool, sand vball court, cafe area to study/watch tv. CONS: The weights area. Ugh. One smith machine. One squat rack. They are really lacking plates here, too. If someone is doing 6 or so plates on each side on the leg press, there goes maybe 1/3 of the 45 lb plates. One incline bench press. Dumbbell area is small and can get crowded. One preacher bench. The rack for the fixed weight barbells is inconveniently placed behind the benches (for dumbbell exercises). Of course, noobs always do their curls right next to this rack so you have to wait for them to finish to grab your barbell. Also, a lot of students come in groups of 3 or more so unless you ask to work in, you can wait 5-10 minutes for a machine/bench (a lot of socializing going on).

People on here can complain about anything. Really? That it's crowded? So is mostly any other gym. For people complaining about hours changing during the holidays, it is listed under "hours" for the Rec Center. They have all the information there & even inform you when the gym is closed by listing the days. Limited hours aren't the best, but a lot fewer members + students come to the gym during break, so it isn't reasonable to be open even more hours. Why be open for just a small amount of people? ‍ Anyways, the gym is nice. I try to go for longer during weekends or during the night when it gets less crowded. The classes offered are great & so are the instructors (I've done yoga & spin mostly). As someone who has dealt with a lot of anxiety, yoga ‍ here has especially been helpful & they offer different kinds (gentle, flow, restorative). There are also plenty of water refill stations, & hand sanitizers + sanitation areas to wipe down equipment. Besides this, I've also enjoyed participating in intramural volleyball. The Rec has a lot to offer. I've been to different gyms, but I love the Rec for the variety of equipment available, & it seems like they've been updating/ upgrading their facility. The staff has always been nice to me as well (: The gym also offers events such as entertainment + food if you meet the "Owen's Condition for Tuition" challenge + you get free stuff by getting some exercise in (: A gym that encourages your health Parking can be difficult, so that's the 1 thing that could be improved!!

Even though I have a gym membership to 24 Hour Fitness and I can walk to the gym faster than I could get to CSULB, I enjoy my workouts here. Maybe it's cause the downtown LB 24 Hour Fitness is nasty, but the CSULB Rec Center always makes me want to get really sweaty and stuff. It's a good thing I don't really know anyone on campus because I like to get to this point of ugliness before I think it's time to go home. Complimentary towels are a plus, I hate having to worry about whether my towel is clean or stained or a dish towel (whatever). It's good if you like people watching. Please don't watch me... I gauge my workouts on how sweaty I can get. Me don't know exercise.

I don't know why I need to write a review for the Rec, lol. I'm pretty sure the only reason one would read this is if one attended CSULB. Location: It's by the two parking structures in North Campus. Right next to the tennis courts, just a little North of the Engineering buildings. Sucks for those of us in South Campus. Inside: The inside is great. There's two floors with an indoor track upstairs. The weight room has plenty of stations for all types of workouts. There's also basketball courts, workout rooms, spin classes, and even a rock climbing wall. My only gripe about the facility is that some of the machines are placed irrationally. I don't want to have to go upstairs for part of my workout just to use the rear deltoid fly machine. Also, some people don't realize there's a running direction for the track depending on the day. Service: Though the place is great, I have had some trouble with the workers. A couple of the managers are arrogant and have no sense of customer service. They are quick to accuse without approaching situations like a true leader before they act. I had an argument with a manager once and, when I proved that his approach was incorrect, he still threatened to suspend my membership. I called his bluff and knew he had no jurisdiction over the situation. Everything else is great as long as I don't have to deal with the ill-taught dictators.

I love this gym!! Whenever I worked out here, I felt super spoiled compared to the other gyms I've been to! One of the best things about this gym is they offer free towels! You can't keep it however and you'll have to return it when your done with it! This gym has two floors! On the first floor you'll find many stations. When you enter the building, you will see that they have a lounge where you can study or hang out. Then after entering through the security gates, you'll run into the machines! There is a variety of machines you can use, which means you will always have many options to go to. Then to the right of the machines, they have basketball courts and farther down is another room where you can ask to set up other sports (Badminton, soccer, volleyball). Opposite from that room, you will find racquetball courts. Further down you will also find rock-climbing! Then backing up a little, you can find a door before the racquetball courts, which leads to the volleyball courts and the swimming pool! In addition to that, they also have a hot tub ;) and finally, the locker rooms! (That is a lot for just the first floor o_o) When you make your way up to the second floor, the first thing you might notice is their indoor track! It comes in three lanes and starting from the inner; they have running, jogging, and walking. Aside from the indoor track, they have most of their stationary machines and studios where workout classes are held! This gym is so well equipped and is basically heaven for anyone who loves working out. THE ONLY PROBLEM ABOUT THIS PLACE, is that it's only available to students of CSULB. How sad :/ If you know anyone attending this school and wanna give it a try, there is a 10$ fee and you'll have to stay with your CSULB friend at all times!

Dude, This place makes me want to apply for grad school at CSULB. I LOVE this gym!! The hours are so flexible and the staff is very friendly. I love their pool hours and swim here at least 4 times a week. It's very clean and I feel a sense of community when I walk in. There are free lockers to use while you work out, and the space allotted for this establishment is more than fair. This professional of a facility really makes me happy that I chose to attend CSULB. It's right next to the parking structure too! So, there really isn't any excuse for me not to stop in before class.

An awesome gym! They have a juice bar/lounge area immediately before entering. They have an equal array of all equipment. Ellipiticals. Treadmills. Stationary Bikes. 3 full basketball courts with 2 extra courts in an area that is used for volleyball/badminton/indoor soccer. A rock climbing wall (with the staff managing it). 3 racquet ball courts. Weight lifting equipment (4 squat racks, 2 power clean platforms, 3 flat bench presses, 1 incline bench press, 1 decline bench press, 1 military press. There is much more.... not gonna list them all but those are all the basics!) There is also a swimming pool with outdoor jacuzzi. Outdoor beach volleyball with sand! Restrooms on first floor and 2nd floor. Also there are many classes that are offered! Check with their website to find out the schedule. Some classes that are offered are ...(spin, yoga, pilates, ab burner...) and they offer free towels!!!!

I usually am pretty lazy but for some reason our new Rec center is so amazing that I actually WANT to work out! all the equipment are new and there's never really a wait for anything. The track upstairs is nice and the drinking fountains actually have COLD water coming out of them . Most of the machines have tv's on them and they come with CABLE and that's perfect so I can watch my kardashians or jersey shore while getting my burn on!
