Untitled at The Whitney Review - Meatpacking District - New York - The Infatuation

"Dinner in an art museum. Sounds about as exciting as a meal in a church, right? Maybe that depends on where you worship. If spending a Sunday at Gramercy Tavern feels like the Sabbath to you, you’re going to like it here at Untitled. Untitled is Danny Meyer’s restaurant at the new Whitney Museum, just as it was in the old Whitney Museum. But this version is a much different piece of work, largely thanks to the fact that Gramercy Tavern’s Michael Anthony is the Executive Chef. The food at Untitled feels strongly influenced by the menu at Gramercy Tavern - most dishes are highly composed yet also very simple, and almost all have some sort of bright green sauce on the plate (that’s how you know it’s an authentic Michael Anthony). It’s all very familiar if you’ve ever spent an evening eating in the Gramercy Tavern bar, which we most definitely have. And everything we’ve eaten here so far has been nearly on that level. The things that probably won’t be familiar to you at Untitled are the prices. The most expensive item on the menu on our most recent visit was a $27 lamb chop, and some of the small plates and starters cost as little as $12. For food of this caliber, and considering the fact that you are both in a museum and in the Meatpacking District, that’s a pretty good deal. You and your mom could definitely have a very nice dinner here and spend less than $100 - depending on whether or not she’s the type to go a little Lucille Bluth on the Sauvingon Blanc. And while Untitled is most definitely an ideal spot for Dinner With The Parents, it’s also Perfect For several other situations, from a night out with the girls, to a night out with some clients, to a meal with your cousins who are visiting from Texas. There’s even some great outdoor seating, which makes it an excellent spot to watch the all Meatpacking action walk by - forget about the art, that’s the real cultural entertainment on display here. Maybe we should eat in museums more often. Food Rundown Fluke With Radish, Sorrel & Lime A fluke crudo is never gonna make anyone mad. Lobster Toast Like crab toast, but with lobster. So, better. Carrots With Chili & Peanuts Carrots, chili, peanuts. We like all of those things. So do you. Get some. Spring Onion & Bacon Flatbread For some reason, whenever I see the word “flatbread,” it makes me think about Applebee’s. Like someone in their corporate office must have been like, “How do we get people in the Midwest to eat more pizza?,” and then their Head of Marketing and Obesity was like, “Call it flatbread.” Anyway, this is a pizza, and it is very good, and it bears no resemblance to anything on an Applebee’s menu. But thanks for riding through that with me. Stradette With Broccoli Rabe Pesto & Fresh Cheese An excellent dish of strangely shaped pasta. The noodles are sort of flat little bricks that you have to eat one by one, rather than grabbing a huge forkful. If you see this on the menu, order it. Black Bass, Swiss Chard & Mushroom Broth Have you ever asked your mom what she feels like eating and her answer is “a nice piece of fish?” This is the true embodiment of that answer." - Chris Stang

The Art of Opening a Restaurant in a Museum

"Untitled at The Whitney, managed by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, is located at the Whitney Museum in New York City. The restaurant emphasizes collaboration and integration with the museum's design and visitor experience, providing a space that complements the art on display. The restaurant team works closely with the museum staff to create a harmonious dining environment that aligns with the museum's cultural offerings." - Jane Frye

This is a beautiful cafe on the ground floor of the Whitney Museum. I ordered the chicken salad and it was completely tasteless. There was chicken in the salad and also extra chicken on top of the salad. The extra chicken was moist but also tasteless. It was like it had been boiled. My husband ordered the steak sandwich which was very good. We ordered side of bread which was excellent. Our server was snippy at times. When it came time to pay, the machine gave me options to tip 20%, 25% or custom. What? I have never seen this. Usually you see 10%, 15% or 20%. If you want convenience and a beautiful setting eat here; otherwise, opt for the dozens of restaurants nearby.

Google
Extremely over priced for what it is but you’re paying for conscience. I do give it 3 stars because the service is impeccable and the atmosphere is beautiful as you are surrounded by a lot of natural light. There are so many amazing restaurants nearby that I would say you should save your money for unless you can’t be bothered and are already in the museum and are desperate for food. The food is not bad at all but I would not say it’s worth the price point.

Google
Solid restaurant by Danny Meyer. Came here for brunch and found a good variety of options to choose from. We sat at the Chef’s Table (kitchen) which was a cool experience. Service is attentive and very friendly, environment is very trendy. My group ordered the Grilled She Wolf Sourdough (MUST HAVE), Montauk Blackfish Poke, Celery Root & Apple Soup, Soft Scrambled Eggs, Shiitake Mushroom Flatbread, Grilled Shrimp Lettuce Wraps and Chili Roasted Scallops. All were decent to small size portions that we were able to share together. The Poke was ok, not something I would have again but good nonetheless. If I didn’t make it clear, you must have the Sourdough bread with honey butter. Another stellar dish is the Chili Roasted Scallops. SO SO good! Overall, a really awesome restaurant inside the new Whitney Museum. Bonus points, it is a no tipping restaurant 👍🏽 Come here if you want to impress your parents!

Google
was okay. they were out of just about everything so i ended up getting the niçoise salad with no tuna. the bread for the sandwich was falling apart. i went to this cafe a few years back and it was pretty good so i was a bit disappointed. the dressing was pretty good though.

Took a date here for her birthday and we both had a great time. Food was well prepared and tasted great, wine selection was top notch. Only thing that may deter you from going here is the price. Pretty expensive but not the highest you'll see in NYC. Love the fact that it is right below the end of the Highline so you can have a nice romantic walk afterwards to burn off the calories ha!

Google
One of the best restaurants for Restaurant Week! The smoked tomato soup was a total embodiment of summer. Each spoonful contained just the right amount of savoury and sweetness derived from the freshest ingredients of the season. The salmon was also well-executed with tenderness and flavours that were just as memorable as the exhibitions at Whitney.

Google
No tip restaurant. But great foods w hospitality. Food portion was kind of small though. Not reccommend for big eater.

The beautiful view of Meatpacking never changed, but got more quiet and peaceful on July 4th. Latte tastes really good and shaken matcha is wakening. Wish the banana bread more moisture, the texture is more like the bread from yesterday though:(

Yelp
Stopped by the studio cafe on a whim, since I was in the area and looking for a cappuccino. The cashier was really friendly and the service was super quick! The indoor seating has a nice ambiance and everything felt clean. I also tried the hot cider and it was yummy! Prices are fair - around $4-$5 per espresso drink. Similar to what you'd pay at a coffee chain. Better to try this local spot!

Yelp
There are two dining venues at The Whitney: the Studio Cafe on the ground floor and the Studio Bar on the 8th floor. This review is about the latter. Indoor and outdoor seating. If there is a waitlist you can visit the galleries and they will text when your table is ready. Service is very sensible and COVID-aware; servers are masked. Each table has a barcode that allows you to place your order and pay your bill with no human contact. Waiters are present o serve your food and answer your questions. You are not required to use the self-service ordering, but I found it effective and efficient. As I said, you still have a waiter and the service was top-notch. The tip is added to the order and payment process. If you are not going to tip you should not take a table and dine here. This is America and servers are paid by tip. In this pandemic, it is more important than ever to tip. Twenty percent is a bare minimum. If you aren't going to tip, don't take a table. We were a party of two and had the cheese plate and charcuterie plate, along with fried pickles and fried eggplant. The fried eggplant was the star of the meal, but that does not take away from the superior quality of the cheeses. The food was excellent and we ate it all. The indoor space looks comfortable and tables are well-spaced. The outdoor space could use more umbrellas to block the sun. We were comfortable at a high bar table, although the plates are large for bar tables. Along with the food, we had a total of three drinks, and the final cost with generous tip was about $50 per person. I will return for lunch the next time I am at the museum.

Yelp
this is to the lower cafe on May 19,2022 11-12ish. as a barista from LA this was a mess and a disappointment considering they're representing some of the best artist. the workers made us wait 30 minutes for 4 drinks. while we confronted them, they were scratching their arms & sipping their coffee while they had stacks of coffee (3 of our drinks) get cold. I made a comment to the young black girl sipping her coffee that "as a barista, it would've went well if you handed out the drinks that are sitting getting cold to then let us know on the status on the last drink" she responded with "that's not my problem" and smirks, then looks away. they gave us the coffee for free but i was taxed on the comment. Coffee tasted good but the coffee maker puts too much foam, and since it sat I had half a cup of coffee. Train your workers. -22 y.o

Yelp
- On the expensive side ($45 for wine, coffee, cake, nuts) - They have alcohol - They're wine pours are generous - The almond cake was exquisite -The energy nut package was really good - Soundtrack was schizophrenic (rap then country then pop then jazz) - One of the songs loudly played 'nigger,' not in a racist way, it was part of the song, still off putting

Yelp
First of all, we came up here after realizing how pricey the food was at Untitled, the main floor restaurant at the Whitney. This place is great because you can sit outside and look at the amazing view! We had an awesome server. She was funny, helpful, and nice. We asked her for recommendations and she suggested we all try different toasts. She also mentioned that it's a good deal to get a toast and a soup or salad for a few more dollars if you are extra hungry. We just ended up each getting our own toasts. I was very happy with my order of the whitefish one. The flavor of the fish was great and it had some nice tomatoes on it too. It was so good I didn't want to trade for a piece of anyone else's toast! They also serve coffee and tea here so it's great if you just need a light bite while spending the day at the museum. It's very relaxing to sit outside and take a break from the art.

Yelp
Very nice selection including vegetarian options. Food was freshly made and tasty. Good service even though it was a busy day. Good place to sit and discuss over a glass of wine

Yelp
Perfect bite to grab after the museum and before heading up the High Line. Homemade chips are fantastic.

Yelp
We came up to visit the museum after eating at Untitled downstairs. We were stuffed from brunch, but managed to easily finish all the desserts we ordered. The Shaken Matcha was super refreshing and it paired very well with all the desserts. We ordered a pistachio/berry cake (my favorite!), matcha donut (has creamy stuffing inside), chocolate cream puff, and a lemon pound cake. It is great going out with friends since you can try a little bit of everything :) We got our food and went to the terrace to eat. The terrace has amazing views and has spacious seating. It is definitely worth coming up here to check out the views if you are around the area.

Yelp
We stopped in for snack and drink while exploring this stunning museum. The view is spectacular and it was a gorgeous day with my son. It is a very small limited menu but we had a cider and soda drink called Scarlet Glow. Mostly ice. I asked if the scone came with butter, "no." Okay. We split a good cookie. It was enough for a snack and we were pretty content sitting outside with a spectacular view. After our server wrapped things up, she kicked a pigeon on her way back inside. It really cast a pall over the visit.

Yelp
Absolute ridiculous place that takes advantage of tourists that will never come back !! I spent about 600$ level membership for this museum also because I loved coming to their table service 8th floor balcony for food and drinks with friends . But that's no more since last July apparently . The service is non existent the food is awful and they stopped serving savory at 4:45 on a weekday . At least I got a glass of wine and a doughnut. Ugh !!!

Yelp
Perfectly curated small beverage list. Fantastic view. Non-tipping cafe. Prices OK. Take a break from the main attraction of art.

Yelp
Terrible service. Good luck getting a water refill here. Seriously, they refilled the glasses on the table next to us - twice before they even notice ours. It was a damp day so we decided to stop by to get a cup of coffee and a snack in the museum. Untitled has nice reviews so we figured that Studio Cafe wouldn't be terrible. Menu was limited - if not boring. It mainly consisted of cheese plates for food options, at least on that particular day. Did not see the soups, the toasts nor the salads on the menu that day. There were about three pastry options. Maybe because it was the day after Christmas? Cheese plate was very disappointing. They mean it when they say: Cheese, house jam, sourdough ($13) Only 3 HALF slices of sourdough tho ?? So pretentious. The jam was not flavorful. It was chunky and weird. After about 20 minutes of no water refills the waitress showed up again. Asked if we wanted coffee refills and disappeared for another ten. What really annoyed me was the check to rush us out a few minutes after the coffee refill. Why bother. Service sucked.

Yelp
This stop on the 8th floor of the Whiney Museum was a nice break during a day of cultural immersion! Enjoyed an open faced salmon sandwich and a few craft IPA! I was by myself so I sat at the bar and got quick service, Delicious and relaxing!

Yelp
4 1/2 stars. Having received an insider tip to "skip untitled and go to the roof!" I headed with my girlfriends for drinks and a bite to studio cafe. That was in June, after recently opening, and it truly was a 3 star trip at most. The view is spectacular and the toasts are delicious, but the service hadn't sorted itself out yet. They served us and three other tables wine right before the museum was closing, prompting security to try and throw us out and management trying to have us chug our wine AND pay for it. Members of the museum were truly upset, while a couple who had just been opened a bottle were confused. They were escorted down to Untitled, the main restaurant, to allow them to finish. Bottom line: we all should have been comp'd drinks or not offered to order another round at all. I returned again with my mother on a weekday afternoon for a lunch and museum trip. Truly a night and day experience. The restaurant was SO organized with spot on service from the hostess, the servers recommendations, to timely plate clearing. This was reflected in how busy and popular that place has become since June. We shared a seasonal summer squash toast, a surprising peach gazpacho that was lovely, and a chicken and kale salad. I love that they will split plates for you, and cut the toasts based on size of your party. Great touch. Everything was absolutely delicious and you can't beat the sunshine + view. I'm docking half a star because each time I've been the wine by the glass pour has been so small it's offensive. Opt for a fresh cocktail instead. I will definitely return with locals and out of towners alike.

Yelp
unprofessional and even rude We come because there wasn't any line to the cashier in the cafe and we wanna some drinks. First - when I was next to the cashier asked me to wait for a second, then she go to the nearest table, where an old couple seat and waited for food, and took an order number stick. She didn't say anything to the older couple and she was too fast to allow to say them anything. The man stand up, come to the cashier, say they are waiting for the order yet, and asked for the order stick. Looks not professional even rude, but it was the first. Second - We ordered two glasses of wine and two espressos and got one more order number stick. Waited 15 minutes, but nothing happens, so I returned to the cashier and asked for the order, a bartender asked what we ordered and asked us to wait for a second, again, then he started to check all the orders' pack. 5 minutes later I asked them again and got the order finally, but we didn't have any mood to have anything in this place.

Yelp
Came here to grab a quick bite before dinner at the Whitney Museum. It was not crowded on a weekday. Got the charcuterie plate ($17) and their handmade root beer ($6). The charcuterie plate was very good and their rootbeer tasted like nothing I ever drank before. Most "interesting" rootbeer I've tried...it was good but had a unique taste. Definitely try it you're a rootbeer lover. Service was a little slow, even though there were many workers and not many seated tables.

Yelp
While touring the museum, we had a quick lunch here and were pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. I was expecting the chicken tender meal to be pretty basic but it was a bit more! The sauces tasted fresh and homemade and the chicken was really tasty!
google avatar

Hana S.

Yelp
I aesthetically loved this place, the menu design (typography!!) as well as the cafe design were beautiful. If you sit outside you get a lovely view of the city but stay inside if you're looking for air conditioning. Like most other museum cafes it's overpriced for the offerings but I thought it was really cool that they had about six or eight different toast choices. It reminded me of places in SF that specialize in awesome toast. I got the coconut passion fruit cake which was pretty good, the frosting was literally thick buttercream with less cream more butter... so I didn't enjoy the outside as much as I enjoyed the passion fruit jelly coating that was in between the layers of cake. The servers were kind of slow in delivering the drinks, our food came out before we even got to try the drinks which was strange...but forgivable haha

Yelp
Casual cafe on the top floor of the Whitney. There is have indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. My friend and I came on a Saturday afternoon, and there was just a short wait before we were seated. As expected, the items are a bit pricier than usual. Non-alcoholic drinks are $5-6. I got an iced almond latte and there wasn't an up-charge for the almond milk, so that was nice. My friend got the lemon mint soda - she usually doesn't like sodas, but she said she enjoyed this one. We also got a brownie to share - it's a bit small, but really delicious. There's a layer of dulce de leche in the middle, making it even sweeter and softer. It comes with a scoop of heavy whipped cream which I wasn't a fan of, but to each their own. *Members receive a 10% discount

Yelp
I really recommend this place! I had the grain bowl. It was special. The dish was as beautiful as any art piece the Whitney houses, and the taste was complex and unique and so wonderful. The grains (quinoa and emmer) were creamy, clustered together in a greenish sauce and the toasted coconut flakes, red currants, cauliflower and brussel sprouts adorned them fabulously. It was just the right amount of food, and managed to be rich and healthy. My parents were blissed out over their whitefish toasts, and I can confirm that they were of sublime deliciousness. Crunchy, creamy and salty. We really felt we were in heaven dining at the studio cafe, the food and the incredible views from a high elevation were responsible for this effect. Ps: I love the frequent rotation of their menu.

Yelp
Horrible service and mediocre food. They have this lady as hostess that is rude and incompetent. Before m there was another couple that also had to deal with her and left. I don't get why Museums can't figure out how to run a decent restaurant ...
google avatar

Isabella P.

Yelp
Very rude staff. The museum treats people like children. Ordered a cookie because I wanted to put to take later home and was denied of a bag because it's not their policy. People are not children to eat inside the museum, I was going to place it inside my purse. Haven't ever been in a museum that controls people in this way. They should warn people ahead of time that you have to eat everything in place.
google avatar

Cecilia S.

Yelp
Delicious food and really nice staff!!! From the hosts/greeters, to the servers, kitchen staff (that make funny faces when you're taking their picture with that gorgeous window in the background) and even the security personnel that guard the patio there. Loved my experience and would definitely come back.

Yelp
Always a great time at the Whitney. Amazing views to enjoy while sipping on a coffee. BEST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE OF MY LIFE

Yelp
I guess overpriced is to be expected when it's in a museum, but I still expected more. When I ordered the toast I was expecting something like the beautiful pictures on the website, but it was nowhere near. While my mom's falafel toast was delicious, my speck and fig toast was really messy to eat and unbalanced in flavor. The bread was so toasted it became tough and the speck kept getting stuck in my teeth, and all in all I did not feel as glamorous as I would have wanted sitting in an art museum. In addition, it had way too much balsamic, far overpowering any hint of fig. The soups were better, though I was disappointed that the duck ramen only used duck for the broth.
google avatar

Chad R.

Yelp
The food was excellent and fresh. Service was friendly and professional. We spent about $50 on 3 beverages and two apps. I don't consider that too bad of a value for NYC AND a museum restaurant.
google avatar

Christine N.

Yelp
Delicious light lunch before making our way down the museum. Mom and dad each got black currant scones, super moist with a delicious lemon curd butter on the side that tasted almost like sorbet. Yum. $6 I got a cup of mushroom broth with 2 smoked whitefish fried wontons on the side. Pretty good, especially the mushrooms which were tasty. Wontons could have been a tad crispier. $10 Bro got the toast, cut into 4 slices, with cherry heirlooms and smoked whitefish, salty and a bit sour yumminess. $15? Lattes were okay. $5 Mimosas were delicious and not weak. $? Service was friendly! Very pretty and clean presentations. Go outside to take a picture of the view!

Yelp
Decently good food at museum cafe prices. In the mood for a mid-afternoon snack & recharge (taking in all that art is surprisingly hard work!), I ordered the toast & soup combo and a macchiato. The toast was a good-sized portion (about the size of a slice from the midsection of a large, round loaf of bread), large enough to share if you like. Good, fresh-baked multigrain bread, topped with potato, dill and smoked arctic char. The dill flavor was enjoyable, but the smoked char was very mild, not as flavorful as good smoked salmon. The potato was, in retrospect, an odd carb-on-carb choice of topping, but with the dill in there it worked. The soup was smoked tomato and pecorino, simple but good, and a good pairing for that particular toast. The macchiato was also good, rich and strong without being bitter. At $6, a bit pricey for a single macchiato, but I guess they know you're a captive audience. Service was attentive, polite and friendly. The toast & soup ($22), macchiato and a water ran to about $40 with tip, or about twice the price of the museum admission. Not bargain pricing, but pretty typical museum cafe pricing.

Yelp
Studio Cafe is the sister restaurant of the Whitney's ground floor restaurant, Untitled. Both are run by the very talented team from Union Square Hospitality Group (Danny Meyer). Studio Cafe is a hidden gem in the Meatpacking District. It is located on the 8th floor with the most remarkable views of the city! If you come at sunset, I guarantee the sight will leave you speechless. The menu is just as memorable. The Executive Chef, Mike Anthony (Untitled and Gramercy Tavern), who was recently awarded by The James Beard Foundation as the most Outstanding Working Chef in America, has created an affordable and innovative menu that highlights locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Some recommendations: the Chilled Carrot Soup, the Butterhead Wedge Salad, the Avocado Toast, the Snap Pea Toast, the Arctic Char Toast, the Strawberry Pudding, and all of the House Made Sodas!!! Studio Cafe is always busy so you may have to wait a bit for a table, but it will definitely be worth it!!!!

Yelp
The key is to come in NOT during prime time for lunch. Try to come before lunch time or after lunch time. I love the setting they did very simple but enough to differentiate it from the rest of the arts :) their food selection good enough for small snack, I eat a lot so their portion is small to me hehehe. their drinks was good! didnt expect it at all. the best part is the atmosphere and the fact that after that glass windows you can see most of the manhattan makes the food taste even better.

Yelp
How on earth can ANYONE think that that hostess is fit for the position? The person who hired that woman really needs to rethink their evaluation criteria. I arrived at the café with my family at 2pm on Memorial Day. My mother-in-law was not feeling well, and we took some time to decide if it would be a good idea for her to be outside in the heat. I smiled at the hostess and said we would need a minute, and she passive aggressively looked and let out a light sigh, as if we were breaking some sacred museum café rule. Note that there was no one waiting in line. It felt as if we were bothering her, or as if we were getting into a snobby rich playboy club in the Meatpacking, which I'm sure is not what the Whitney wants. After a few minutes, she asked us if we had reached a conclusion (again, passive aggressively), we said we had, and said she'd call us in 10 minutes. Her attitude was that of an impatient 15-year-old brat. I told the woman who was showing people to their tables the hostess had been rude, and she apologized on her behalf and went back to her position, right beside the hostess. I believe she mentioned our conversation to her. Because of that bad first impression, we decided to give up on our table, and when we were on our way out, both hostess and the other employee were giggling. I approached the hostess and said she had been very rude, and she responded she wasn't in a confrontational tone. I left it at that, went downstairs, and wrote a comment card, which is yet to be responded. I will definitely go back to the Whitney because their collection is amazing, and all the other employees were not only very well trained and nice, but also super helpful when they overheard me complain about that episode. However, while the café insists on hiring spoiled, unprofessional people with a teenage attitude, I won't go past the 7th floor. P.S.: Reading other comments here on Yelp, I noticed I was not the only one who thinks the hostess, who is supposed to welcome customer, is actually sending them away. UPDATE: After filling out a complaint form at the museum, and emailing their HR, the only response I got was that my message was sent to whoever is in charge of the restaurant. The restaurant never contacted me, so yeah, I guess a one-star review is more than enough.

Yelp
Amazing Food and Amazing Service! It's a win win and who doesn't love a gluten free cookie that doesn't taste like paper!!!! The potato chips and dip was amazingly good too. When I received the dip, I didn't think they gave me enough but half way through it I was like ok; I had enough but it's so good! Can't wait to go back to try some more things on their menu.

Yelp
I love when I can get good food at a museum. To avoid waiting 15 minutes for a table, we sat outside in the sun with our coats on and enjoyed the November sun over the river. Some tables had heaters, which we would have needed if we were in the shade. We had the bacon, lettuce, apple, cheddar and brussels sprouts salad and a bowl of the chicken tortilla soup. The salad was good, but it wasn't what I expected. There were just a handful of brussels on top of the salad. The soup was excellent: great flavors and textures. The chicken was perfectly cooked. We also had lattes which arrived after our food and were pretty bitter. That was a bit disappointing. We were going to walk the High Line afterwards, but it was in the shade by then, and our waitress recommended a walk along the Hudson. There is walking (and bike) path all the way down the battery park. It was great!

Yelp
Excellent Cafe, service was awesome. Food and Drinks were exquisite as you'd expect from Danny Meyer. View not too shabby either. Just GO and go OFTEN! ;-)

Yelp
Tried taking out the triple chocolate cookie back in 2015 and they unsurprisingly refused. At that point it was $4 a la carte, rather than the $8 with milk version. Unfortunately in 2016 the same cookie is now $7 without milk, and really really overrated. They're also still a tipping establishment unlike other USHG/Danny Meyer spots, which surprised us given how weak the service we received was.

Tim H.

Yelp
Up until a month or two ago, this was an exceptional small restaurant with high quality fare and service, as I've come to find from Danny Meyer's restaurants. For some reason the format was changed to counter service with a severely limited menu and ho-hum food quality. The views are still terrific, of course, but you can no longer enjoy them while having a surprisingly uplifting dining experience. Such a disappointment. Why?

Yelp
I don't usually stop at museum cafes but I went to the new Whitney on a date and we got a drink, and then my date spilled his drink all over me and my white silk shirt. The staff at the cafe was so nice and helped us clean up, and then they brought over a full new drink even though he only spilled the last few sips, and the best part is that my date said thank you and the manager was like um no, it's for her. It was so nice!

Yelp
I highly recommend Studio Cafe. I had squash/goat cheese on toast--really fresh and full of flavor. The server was friendly, almost no waiting time for ANYTHING. A unique experience for the view and ambiance

Yelp
This cafe, located on the 8th fl. of the Whitney Museum, is the perfect way to spend your afternoon. The food is interesting and complex but the menu is kept simple. Every dish we tried was delicious! We enjoyed the chilled carrot soup on this hot summer day ($8 only! Very reasonable!). The soft drinks were delicious as well! The strawberry one was light and refreshing. The mango-lime was unique; never had anything like it before. It was a little thicker in consistency somewhat like a lassi. Even the ($4) potato chips were served with cheese that made it better than any other chips I've had in a restaurant before. All of this with a panoramic view of Manhattan as a backdrop! I would definitely recommend my friends to come here and I really want to come back!

Yelp
The duck ramen at this cafe is such a joke. There is no duck meat in it at all and the soup doesn't tasty anything related to duck either. There is only some slices of shiitake mushrooms and scallion. If you order the small bowl, the amount in it is around half bag of the 99 cents instant noodle you will find at the convenience store.

Yelp
A truly COSMIC experience: Unlike the Museum itself, which seems to subscribe to "the MORE IS MORE" philosophy, the Studio Cafe at the Whitney understands that "less is more.' I STUMBLED on the Cafe, after a great experience looking at the Motley exhibit and before I went into psychedelic overload. The Menu is just PERFECT: i had 'toast' no, not your basic slices of Challah burned to a crisp from my inexpert toasting skills, but GOURMET 'toast' of artic char, SMOKED, celery root puree and red cabbage. I wanted to try the meatloaf and kale combo, oh who am I kidding I wanted everything on the menu, but time would not allow. The cappuccino was expertly brewed by Aaron and I had a wonderful talk withJulie Travis, who is a first rate general manager of the Studio Cafe. I KNOW how important it is to have someone overseeing a restaurant and who can understand food, the Chef, presentation, etc. I was totally dumbfounded by the excellence of the restaurant and did not know the Chef had recently won the James Beard award, which is richly deserved. I can't wait to go back . Just superb

Yelp
We have had many lovely, simple meals at Studio Cafe, but not any more. They eliminated table service and we stood in a long line for a long tine while the two people behind the counter very leisurely took orders, chatted with one another and generally made us feel that we were inconveniencing them. Even if you only order a cappuccino, you have to go pick it up at the counter. The menu is drastically diminished. Perhaps they should check out the cafes at MOMA or SFMOMA to be reminded of how a museum cafe should be done. We ended up leaving and walking into the Village for lunch.

Yelp
The reason why I have to give this restaurant four stars is because of the food. Let's face it: the food tastes amazing and the ingredients are fresh. Left feeling full but not stuffed, and the food is healthy too! My cocktail (a Pimms one) was one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Rooftop ambiance was super chill and modern, just like the Whitney museum. The reason why I would rate this place lower is because of the service. The way the hostess acted was awkward and off-putting. Since we were sitting outside and because we are pale and sun-sensitive, we wanted to make sure we were sitting at a table with the most shade. We were going to sit down at a table when the hostess said we couldn't sit at that table yet because they weren't "allowed" to sit people until the table was set. We said, okay, no problem, we can just move the menus and glasses ourselves to a suitable table. She refused and asked us to step aside. We told her again, that we could do it and it was not a big deal. She made us wait for the staff to come and move some menus over to the table right next to it. She insisted this was done and said in a condescending tone, "Trust me, it makes a difference" as she walked away. I know I'm not conveying these interactions well but trust me that this was super awkward. Okay, I understand the hostess may have been under strict guidelines, and this is not her fault. In this situation, her anxiety to follow the rules compromised her customer service skills. It shows that she prioritizes following the "rules" instead of making the customers not feel uncomfortable. She made such a big deal about this that we sat down at the table thinking "huh?" Don't forget, the ultimate job of the hostess is to make your patrons feel welcomed!

Yelp
I went with my family for a light lunch and found it underwhelming. The space was nice and the balcony view was beautiful. We were seated at the bar and were given Menus I decided on the hummus and flat bread to go with my cappuccino. When the man came to take are orders and was asking my sister what she wanted I got a text from my friend-- It was a picture of the French fries he's was eating I said "French fries" and looked up the waiter was there and said "nice try, look at the menu and order something that's actually their" I was kinda shocked I didn't think I said that loud even so it was rude. When the food came mine was bland and in flavorful.

Yelp
Stopped in yesterday as soon as it opened at 11. Friend and I sat at the bar as we only wanted a coffee, and something small to accompany it. She asked for tea, and got a over thought list of teas.I ordered a cappuccino. We were limited in what to accompany it. She ordered a small sliver of a brownie for $8 and I a chocolate chip cookie @ $4. I waited 15 minutes for a cappuccino , it was good. It stops there. The cookie was warm, soft and greasy and tasted like a pad of butter. It's was not good at all. How can you mess up a chocolate chip cookie? The server went on talking BS about the ingredients , which failed to impress. My friends brownie was covered in salt and a dollop of what first appeared to be whipped cream , but was sour cream and again covered in salt. This place reeks "bougie" and is a avoid at all cost. Total bill for shit deserts, tea and coffee $30.

Yelp
Perhaps we hit a BAD day? The Cafe looked fun and artsy, so we put in our names. We were seated relatively quickly, our waitress was cheerful and pleasant, and then thing started to go downhill ...fast. Shortly after we placed our order of small soups and open faced sandwiches (termed 'toasts'), two other parties were seated. Thirty minutes later, the other two parties were served their lunches; we waited another 10 minutes for ours. MY duck ramen soup was really quite good, but my arctic char 'toast' suffered because the delicate flavor of the smoked char was completed overwhelmed by excessive seasonings. The other three in our party did not fare as well with their selections. That, plus $131.00 for a light lunch for 4, was pretty disappointing.

Yelp
First of all, the location is gorgeous. Beautiful patio overlooking meatpacking. Food looks great too. Good luck sitting down though. There were five open tables but we gave up after waiting more than twenty minutes to be seated. It wasn't busy, the host was simply super disorganized and rude. We could have sat ourselves; the server didn't seem to have a problem with that. It's too bad: its sister restaurant Untitled gets great reviews and I had high expectations. They only get two stars because I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they will get over their growing pains, I hope so. Update: walked by ten minutes later. She still hadn't managed to sit anyone.

Yelp
The views were AMAZING!!! Super pricey and honestly the food was not good for the amazing museum. I had chicken tortilla soup and there was honestly no chicken and 3 tortillas. All the toasts were snacks and we left still hungry.

Yelp
11/12/16 Food options - and quality - have dropped precipitously since our last visit. We ordered almonds, a cheese plate and summer vegetables. The serving sizes of the first two were microscopic. For $13 we got 3 bight size pieces of cheese. The vegetables were totally uninspiring, reminiscent of the shrink wrapped party platters you can get at Costco. Maybe Danny Meyers doesn't want to compete with his restaurant on the first floor, Untitled. Bottom line, it was very weak. The deck and the views are spectacular and the service very good so I would still stop in for a cup of coffee. But something has to be done about the food. Total tab for the above plus 6 drinks was $91 before tax/tip 1/18/16 Yeah, its pricey. And there is usually a long wait to get seated. But its a nice spot to kick back and have a coffee and some dessert after a long day of schlepping through the museum. We've eaten here two or three times. Most recently we got mint tea, coffee and split a piece of carrot cake. All were tasty. Service was friendly and engaging (we've always eaten at the bar). Total tab before tax/tip was $19
