We stayed there for 3 nights. Such a wonderful place, well curated with wonderful art and lots of comfortable nooks to grab your book and relax. Even though it was fully booked we never felt the place crowded,it felt serene. It has various little gardens/courtyards with hidden corners that you could find privacy. Friendly stuff, cosy rooms and wonderful atmosphere. Their breakfast is served in a nice terrace with a nice view of the surrounding houses. It is simple, satisfying and with homemade produce. The peanut butter is amazing, the loafers made on the day by the cooks and their moringa omelette is an excellent choice. They also have a lovely bar on the front. We are so happy we got to stay there.

Subira House is a gem in Lamu town. We got the roof top room which has its own private terrasse overlooking the old fort and ocean. The owners and staff were incredibly kind, helpful and attentive, catering our whole stay in Lamu to our needs. We had dinner, coffee, breakfast and a huge amount of fish samosas at their place. Dinner is not a la carte, but you can ask the cook in the morning what you want to eat. Everything is fresh and most veggies come from their permaculture farm. This is an eco certified hotel: dry toilets, no pool, careful use of resources, but you got to stay with people who care for the community in Lamu and the environnement. Everyday we got to discover places and spend time on the sea, easy boat trips to snorkeling or swimming places were organized for us. Absolutely loved our stay there. Thank you Christina and Paul!

We went to Subira house for a 3 course dinner as a large group last night. We were served the most tasty grilled fish, stuffed aubergine and condiments. The service was excellent and it was all served in the most idyllic setting in Lamu town. This was an incredible experience. I would highly recommend. A huge thank you to Chef Oomi, Rosemary and Mohammed for a spectacular evening with stellar service!

Subira House is a true gem. It is a beautiful oasis that makes you feel right at home. Everyone who works there is kind, generous, warm... We stopped there everyday to have coffee (some of the best, hands down - thank you Joshua and Enock) and their delicious breakfast. Homemade everything - shoutout to John for his bread and freshly made peanut butter, and Kennedy and Rosemary for always looking after us. We'll be back to stay and for the yoga and dinner.

Recommended. We will return. We are currently staying here and it is magnificent. If you are stressed when you arrive, for sure you will have to be wheeled out on account of being soooo relaxed. The breakfast is great. Also the dinner we had was delicious. The staff are wonderful with their big, easy Kenyan smiles. They did all they could to help us enjoy your stay. Only good words for them. I noticed all the other guests appeared very happy too which added to the positive atmosphere. Also recommend you book an evening sailing trip to see the sunset on a dhow. Book it with the hotel manager Mohammed. We found all the local people on the island very friendly.

My partner and I recently stayed at Subira House in Lamu during our trip to Kenya, and were absolutely blown away by this place. The architecture and the interiors are amazing, and it feels like you're being taken back in time. The staff were incredibly attentive, helpful and very hospitable. The breakfasts were also incredible!! A delicious spread each morning of homemade jams, peanut butter and more. And it's right in the centre of town, only a couple of minutes walks to the main square and port. It was very special, and we would highly recommend to anyone who is staying in Lamu.
