My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights. I overall wish I could get a refund. I would definitely explore other options if we ever return to Las Terrenas. We had such high expectations and excitement for this place after seeing the great reviews and stunning photos. Our stay was fine because the rooms were big and clean and the location was lovely, but every other aspect was lacking and there were too many inconveniences we had to deal with.
When we checked in, the first thing we noticed was that the entire resort was extremely quiet- not oasis luxury resort quiet, but an almost eerie and unusual quiet. No sort of music was played in the lobby or anywhere else on the resort which made the vibe and energy of the place weird. It was also empty with only a handful of other guests.
We were also told that all excursions were cancelled for the entire week, even though there was very minimal rain the days we stayed. This was very disappointing as it was quite boring at the resort.
Staff & Service: The receptionists were fine but could’ve been much friendlier, welcoming and overall provide better hospitality for a 5-star resort. Whenever we went to ask questions or needed assistance, they helped but were not the most efficient. There was one night our room would not unlock and we tried explaining to the receptionist (in both English snd Spanish) and she sent us back and forth four times just for us to still be locked out of our room. They then had to get four different people to come and pry our door open with a ladder and rod. For some reason they don’t have a master key to unlock the rooms when the keycard reader stops working. It was a huge inconvenience and after they broke down our door they just left without offering a solution for the next time we needed to open our door. All of it felt very unprofessional.
Location: The beach and location was the best part of our stay. The drive to the resort was stunning. The beach was gorgeous and never crowded. It definitely feels like a quaint, tucked away area perfect for unplugging.
Rooms: The one-bedroom suite was very spacious, nice and clean, however, infested with mosquitoes. We killed over 15 mosquitos over the course of two days. It was never ending, even with the copious amounts of bug spray. It made it difficult to sleep peacefully at night. Also, our shower drain was completely clogged upon arrival. They did eventually send in mechanics to fix the issue but it took about 30 minutes. The power also went out for a couple hours. Every time we used hot water, there was a really loud clicking noise that would go on until the hot water was done being used. The AC unit was also very loud.
Food: Very mid. Nothing special at all and was definitely overpriced. Ordered a small ceviche, side of tostones and yuca fries and it came to $65 USD. Definitely better options outside the resort.
Overall, I would not consider this a 5-star resort in comparison to many other ones I’ve stayed at. We ended up leaving early on check-out day and didn’t bother to speak to a manager because we were just tired and ready to leave at that point.
