I first reviewed this hotel in February 2020, shortly before the pandemic hit. I had traveled here with my 88-year-old mother and my 60-something sister and knew then that I would be back. |My husband and I have just returned from an eight-night stay and our stay was even sweeter this time. We opted for a garden-view room instead of the oceanfront family suite I occupied five years ago and it suited our needs perfectly. We were given Room 133, which was ideally situated for access to the pool, beach, lobby, buffet…actually, I don’t think there is a badly situated room in this entire resort. Throughout our stay, our quarters were impeccably cleaned by the housekeeping staff (hi, Tiffani!) and notes of thanks were written for gratuities. The bed was comfortable, the climate control excellent, the hot water plentiful and we had ample room for our luggage, clothing and personal items.|As I was a repeat visitor, we were given a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon which a charming note of welcome--and our wristbands were pink, which mystified many of the other guests whose strings were light blue. The front desk never failed to greet us by name, which made me ridiculously happy. The two trainees, Chloe and Akiel, have bright futures in hospitality ahead of them|We enjoyed 95% of the food we ate and the only marginal dining experience we had was at Sizzle (which was true of my last stay, too). The food was very good but the pacing of the service (which was delivered by genuinely nice people) made me want to chew aluminum foil. And dear Lord, it is HOT in there. We were pasted with sweat when we left at 9:30, sans dessert which we canceled because we just wanted to get somewhere air conditioned. The buffet offered plenty of choice for all three meals, although we usually had lunch at Colin’s. Tea at 4 pm provided a nice snack before dinner if there was room in our stomachs. (My husband MADE room.) Umi was perfection and Kay is even more incandescent than she was in 2020. I am surprised to read some guests believe the liquor is watered down. I may be a cheap date, but we found the drinks to be potent. If you want more booze--or less--just ask. |We enjoyed the Manager’s Meet and Greet very much and appreciated the resort’s escort to see the racehorses bathing in the sea on Tuesday. We also took advantage of the shuttle to Oistins on Friday night, but if I’m honest, it was just too long. We arrived there at about 6:45 pm and were ready to head back about 90 minutes before our scheduled departure. |The Beach Guys were always happy to set up chairs and umbrellas for us and they were always available for a chat or to help. |The gift shop offers snacks, toiletries, clothing and souvenirs at very fair prices.|One suggestion to management: I think it would be super helpful if the resort provided a folder in each room of useful information about the resort, its amenities and environs. Did you know that five flavors of snow cones are available in the afternoon? A resort map, restaurant hours and activity/entertainment schedules would be most welcome. I would have been distraught to miss Virgo on Sunday night. |Besides Sugar Bay's beautiful beach, comfortable accommodations and delicious food, it would be foolish to downplay the role the resort's employees have in ensuring a wonderful vacation. I did my best to make a note of the kind folks who contributed to our pleasure on our holiday: Akiel, Natalie, Chloe, Channel, Dylan, Romario, Kay, Deeannera, Aton, Kimberly, Kyra, Xavier, Brandon, Akeem, Zahran (when I return, I will expect a book report). I apologize for omitting about thirty other staff members. And I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to the guests we enjoyed meeting: Allan, Sue and Andrew from the Cotswolds; Karen and Kevin from Scotland and Newcastle; Linda and Laura from Ohio and Karin from Long Island. |We are looking forward to returning with our family in the not too distant future.
