What a gorgeous park, i think this one is my favorite in Salt Lake City, i love the sound of the water at the spillway, across the street from the lake. Absolutely appealing! 5 stars all day long Miracles in Action with Mr Beach

Google
Great place to stay and chill with family and friends for a while. Plenty of great shade, and the stream was delightful. I think the playground was amazing. Different levels of play for kids of all sizes and levels of play. The shade is pretty abundant and the squirrels were amazing lol . The bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Great job sugar house!!!!!!;

Google
Beautiful park on the grounds of the previously cruelty - laden, unforgiving Utah state penitentiary. The park is peaceful with beautiful views of the snow covered mountains in the backdrop and luscious green grass and beautiful mature trees. It's easy to access for people with disabilities and challenges. There's a separate track for walking, roller skating and cycling. The stream running through the property add welcome soothing noise to the rustling of leaves. You'll find snakes, turtles, geese and ducks to enjoy wildlife.

Oh god! This park is sooo good. The mountain view. The sunset. The lake. The pavilion. And everything. This parks has literally everything to make your day. Plenty of playing ground for dogs. Plenty of parking. Might get crowded during some days and mostly in summer. Amazing for day hangouts. You can do a gathering here, or a bbq.

Google
Probably the premier park in SLC. Great area with all the park things. Highland High School is near by for overflow parking if needed. But the view of the Wasatch mtns are just incredible 🗻 Plz enjoy this park as much as I did :)

Google
Absolutely awesome park in the heart of Sugar House, big lake, lots of wildlife, plenty of trails, basketball/ soccer/ etc., and plenty of well shaded areas. Awesome for a jog, walk, bike ride, anything really!

Google
If you have a well behaved dog this place is for you! It’s so beautiful, so many free roaming dogs having the time of their lives. Do note it’s a bit time consuming getting out of there around rush hour that’s the only flaw. (It’s not a gated park so u do have to pay attention)

I've lived in Salt Lake most of my life. This has been my favorite park since I was pretty young. The park is really big. It has a river running through the middle of it. Several pavilions. Countless people use the run/walk/bike lane that runs around the whole park.

Yelp
We were staying at a hotel nearby and decided this would be the ideal spot to get out, stretch our legs and get a nice walk in after driving all day. We only visited the area by the pond but taking a stroll around the rim was healthy for our bodies and restful for our souls. It is a lovely park and seems well maintained. It also is very popular. It was a delight to see so many people out walking, biking and just relaxing on a lovely spring day. We discovered a walkway under 300 East street that led to another little hidden mini park and a beautiful pathway back to our hotel. There are dedicated bike/walking paths along the road that loops through the park. The traffic seemed mindful of the pedestrians. I will definitely take the mile long path around the perimeter next time we stay in the area.

Yelp
Awesome park for sledding. The restrooms were stocked. There was parking even on a busy holiday weekend.

Yelp
This park is open amidst the coronavirus pandemic. We decided to take our "take out" lunch, and eat it at the open air park. So did everyone else. This park is mostly grass with a large pond with a small playground, and small basketball court. They also have a sleigh riding hill when there is snow. There is a covered pavilion with several tables. Every inch of parking space was taken, and cars kept coming in as the gate wasn't closed. Tons of people at the park today, definitely not practicing social distancing. Everyone seemed to be walking around the perimeter of the park, along the road, but they weren't keeping their distance from one another. We walked around once, then left since there really wasn't much to do here except eat our lunch, and walk with the crowd. We could of sat on the lawn, and people watched, but the dogs were getting antsy so we left.

Yelp
Nice large public park in sugar house. even on a dreary day, we enjoyed our walk here. there was even someone with a drum set set up playing music.

Yelp
Great park with a lot of activities! There are a lot of kids but it is spacious. Love a good park day!

Yelp
Nice park with private pavilions with playgrounds. Creek for dogs to play in and plenty of walking.

Yelp
A dog friendly haven, filled with friendly, good people. Incredibly inviting, and family friendly.

Yelp
I have memories of 1989 being a child watching fireworks at Sugar House Park. I remember thinking that this park was massive and I could easily get lost in it. I wasn't wrong. Fast forward a few years-it's still massive, but my sense of direction has improved enough that I don't worry so much about getting lost. But anything is possible, I suppose. The park is hilly and has plenty of large shade trees-great for picnics or outdoor gatherings. There is a beautiful lake in the middle and a one-way road that is shared by motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Several parking lots are sprinkled throughout. There are many events held here, both large and small. It's a popular park and most every long-time resident of Salt Lake City will likely have a story or two of visiting Sugar House Park.

Yelp
Overall impression: One of the best parks I've been to It's a beautiful park. It has just about everything you could want. Great playground for kids, small ponds with ducks, basketball courts, bbq pits, pavilions. And lots of parking. And the scenery is beautiful of course. I also found it to be very clean and well-kept. Great place to take visitors or just hang out with your family.

Yelp
Honestly I prefer the great outdoors--epic hikes, overnight backpacking in the mountains, and precipitous cliffs. But this park is great for an easy stroll with the family. Be sure to bring sun screen though if you visit here in the afternoon: the sun can get pretty hot. Bring picnic blankets and items too for a chill out under a tree. I also recommend walking the short trail along the creek. Parking is pretty easy and you'll have lots of options. Just be sure to figure it where you want to park (which pavilion, near the pond etc). Charcoal BBQ grills are also provided.
google avatar

Austin H.

Yelp
Love the fact that there are multiple pavilions! The Yelp Community actually had one reserved for an event that I attended (I think they're usually $70 for half a day reservation). Large park, perfect for a nice walk with friends or your dog, or for casually hanging out by the lake and feeding the geese. There are massive fields that are perfect for frisbee/soccer/football/etc. One thing I really disliked was that the entire park had only a single One Way lane for driving, making it incredibly inconvenient to navigate (if you miss a turn off, you need to completely exit the park after following the one way path around, then re-enter). I think it usually loops, but they had it chained off for whatever reason.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
I like this park. I really do; however, it is getting more and more sketchy. The transient and their ilk have really taken over the park. (Especially on East side.). City of SLC needs to control and monitor this better.
google avatar

Yelp
You ever hear of National Geographic? Sugar House Park is pretty much like that.. except you only have ducks, a frozen lake, and snow/cold park go-ers. I can't really write anything sarcastically witty about this park because i actually like it, so let me just give the facts: Sugar House Park is about 110.5 acres. Follow the park road and it's about a 1.38 mile walk/run, with designated walking path, biking path, and actual road! Pretty nice, right? Surprisingly, the noise of traffic from the roads surrounding the park feel almost non-existent. With that said, stop reading this review. Get out, and get those calories burning!

Yelp
Beautiful park in the heart of my hometown. It's right off the freeway, and main roads, which provides easy access for everyone. Sugarhouse Park's gardens are well manicured, and the playgrounds are new, well made and look like lots of fun! The mountain views are superb, and lots of green foliage in the summertime. During the winter, it's a stellar place to take the kids to go sledding and play in the snow. I have always loved this park, and have very fond memories of feeding the geese and ducks with my grandparents. This is a lovely gem in our community, and I hope that the newly proposed shelter doesn't turn it into another Pioneer Park. We need to truly help ALL people in our community, not just ignore/shuttle them around for someone else to have to deal with.
google avatar

Yelp
Neighborhood (and City) gem! Even though the bathrooms close for the season on Sept 30th, there are port-a-potties. Wonderful mix of trail, playground, basketball courts, fields. One-way auto traffic. Bike lane (generous width). Covered picnic areas.

Yelp
Of all the years I have known and loved this park, it was today's visit that finally solidified the need to perform my civic duty and review the damn place. After all we've been through? Please forgive me Sugar House. Sugar House Park often gets compared to Liberty Park. This makes sense as they are both two of the larger parks in the city, they're only 2 miles away, and they're both beloved in the community. However, for me the scales tip ever so slightly in Sugar House's favor. Sugar House Park is a little over a mile around, and the loop consists of some mild hills (nothing drastic--it is a park after all, and we're all about leisure here) You can also drive your vehicle through the park, which kind of feels like it shouldn't be allowed, but because there are sporting events that take place here, it makes sense. Plus, for what it's worth, people usually refrain from driving psychotically. They like to save that for 2100 south. For what it's worth, the park is simply an important part of our community. Lots of events take place here, my favorite one being the annual fourth of July fireworks. Even though it's become more and more crowded over the years, it's a tradition I, and many others value. I also appreciate that despite being in one of the more traffic laden areas of SLC, it still feels peaceful and easy going. When I am here, I can quickly forget that there's the hustle and bustle of Sugar House right next to me. Thankfully, this park has remained a safe space throughout the years. Anyone is welcome, but a lot of the problems we've seen in other parks have yet to permeate this one. It seems like there's a level of respect we all have for Sugar House Park, and that makes me exceptionally happy.

Yelp
We came to Sugar House Park while vacationing in Park City. We had four children ages 2 1/2 - 7 1/2 and a teenager with us. All four younger kids had so much fun! They enjoyed climbing on the logs, making a "ninja warrior" course out of the equipment, and just the variety of play structures at the playground. Super fun and grateful for this option! Dining opportunities were close by. We did Chipotle because with that many kids we opted for something they were familiar with.

Yelp
Kudos to Salt Lake County for continually investing in this park. I don't mind the occasional construction project (and there have been many lately) that keep the sparkle on a big park like this. Sugar House Park is one of the larger parks in the system, and so you've got a lot of different things going on to try do describe it. Most people will shout out the lake--and that's probably the most prominent feature. In the summer, people dot the shoreline and lay in the sun, watch the ducks and geese, and walk around the water's edge. In the winter, it freezes over and you can watch the birds come in for a landing and slide to and icy stop. The hill is full of sledders while the snow is good, and it's the magnet area of the whole park. Don't forget, however, that there's more to it than that. There are pavilions all around the edges, which can all be reserved starting at $70 for a half day. The process is pretty painless, though it does require a stop at the SL Co Parks & Rec office. There are a few different restroom options, lots of parking areas around the whole loop that circles the park, and a couple (?) different playgrounds for the kiddos. Watch them closely around that lake, as well as the small creek that runs through the park. The flow can vary depending on runoff and the time of year. But the small riparian corridor and bridge are really fun. Green grass, blue sky, picnics, the song of a brook singing through its course--this is a pretty great place to be on any given day.

Yelp
Gorgeous! Great place for a picnic under the shade of the trees looking at the mountains. August 1, 2020- there is an active yellow jacket nest in the red rock formations that lead to the walkway that goes under the street- kids, pets, and adults beware.

Evan R.

Yelp
Clean, no encampments, scenic. A majority of the playground is for older kids - 4/5 yo and up, I'd say. There is a little toddler area though that my daughter loved. Baby, big kid, and assistive swings too. Liked it better than Liberty Park, excluding the Aviary,

Yelp
This is a great park to walk with your kids and play your Pokémon or wizards unite. They have several play grounds for the kids to play on. They have tai chi lessons and a marshal arts class that practice there. They have a great hill if your into rolling down hills. Every so often they have a car show their as well.

Yelp
This is an absolutely beautiful park complete with a lake and stream. I've been coming here as long as I can remember for family reunions- it is definitely big enough for a bunch of these all at the same time. I remember walking in the cool water of the stream with my cousins :) They have streets going through the park that make it a great place for bike races, which they were doing the last time I was there. They have a hill that is great for sledding in the winter. And the beautiful lake is perfect for laying out under the stars and enjoying their beauty. Or for watching the fireworks for the 4th of July (or for Pioneer Days if SLC still does them) :)

Yelp
I will always love this park! Great time with the family and huge recreational areas to spend and awesome summer day outdoors

Yelp
Becoming a ghetto. Packed to the brim with people and trash. Zero law and order. Zero enforcement of the clearly marked rules. Dogs run free and defecate everywhere while their owners don't clean up after them. Cars drive on the grass. It's a free for all. Apparently Parks and Recreation and law enforcement are too lazy to go into the park and enforce anything. Like I said, it's a ghetto.

Yelp
Sugar House Park is one of the best parks near the Salt Lake area. There are fields of grass, a nice steep hill, and a large pond where ducks come knowing that they'll be fed by strangers. I like to run here in the mornings or late evenings because the path has a mix of uphill and downhill unlike the level grounded Liberty Park. So, I prefer this park when I want to do a little bit of cardio. This park is my favorite during wintertime because the massive hill that they have is made for sledding. (This hill also is fun to use in the summer because you can roll down it. Loads of fun to do! Just use caution.) You can easily spend a couple of hours mastering the little mountain of a hill and then drop by Salt Lake to enjoy a hot cup of cocoa in the wintertime or a cold ice tea in the summer at any of the plentiful coffee shops.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this park! It is super close to my house but easy to get to no matter where you live. It's off the 80 freeway and then off 2100. This seems like it's one of the biggest parks in the area. There's a ton of benches and also picnic tables. Plenty of people bring their dogs because they are allowed here which is nice and I always see dogs on leashes. They have a playground for kids and a huge pond so you can feed the ducks. It's a great place to get exercise or to bring your kids for a play date. They keep it really clean but u don't think there are baggies to pick up after dogs so the grass can tend to have a lot of "fertilizer".
google avatar

Shauna S.

Yelp
Nice park with many activities--joggers, picnickers, soccer players, dog walkers, fireworks during holidays, pond, etc. There is a one-way road around the park with several entrances and exits. Centrally located in a good neighborhood. Easy to freeway and major roads.
google avatar

Karen V.

Yelp
This is beautiful and big park -!! I am not familiar with the park; it took about 40 min to find my friend's picnic event. (By foot) The driving is very scenic since the park is surrounded by mountains and it has a nice lake with ducks.
google avatar

James F.

Yelp
This park is great for biking, jogging, dogs, or playing a game of volleyball. I'd go here everyday if I could. Sometimes the park is overrun with sports teams from Highland, Olympus, or city league rugby games. BUT even though I say that, I've found myself watching a lacrosse/rugby game or two...our three. One of the best parks in Utah by far! This park is great if you are active. I bike with my wife around the perimeter road, which is 1. 4 miles around. Also if you want a more grueling workout you can bring some cleats and do sprints up the grassy hills. During the Winter the park has an unpleasant smell due to the drained duck pond, but in March the pond is full and there is no odor. When the park is full be sure to bring a bag of bread to feed the ducks, geese, and the aggressive seagulls. Also during the Winter there is a perfect sledging hill on the South West side that has hay bails at the bottom to prevent children from sliding into the road.

Yelp
Sugar House Park is a great city park located in the heart of the Sugar House area. The park itself was formerly home to the Utah State Prison. The federal government operated the penitentiary until Utah statehood in 1894, when the prison was then granted to the State of Utah. By the middle of the 20th Century, state officials had finalized plans to move the prison to a new site at the Point of the Mountain and plans were made to convert the site to a park. Today Sugar House Park is a place people choose to go to rather than be forcibly detained at. It features a large pond that is home to many ducks and other birds; grassy areas for sports, picnics, and sledding; gazebos for events and parties, and playgrounds of the kids. The Park also features a nice, but small rose garden and the nearby Rose Garden building that can be rented for events or activities. During the summer months Sugar House Park is busy with runners, kids playing, people on bicycles and even some LARPERs (look it up) from time to time. The Park is also home to an annual 4th of July fireworks show that is one of the best in the state. During winter you'll find lots of people enjoying the snow and sledding or tubbing.

Yelp
When I was there, there were a lot (over 60) of orphaned baby ducks. However, the pond water is incredibly unhealthy, and all got sick with botulism. Each time I visited, there were fewer and fewer ducks, and all but a few were dead within a week. There are signs by the water, but apparently the ducks (or whoever placed them there) didn't read them. There was an animal control rep on the news, who said they were perfectly healthy and should survive. However, there were dead/dying/sick baby ducks all along the water. Not only is incredibly sad for me, but I wouldn't want to take kids or pets anywhere near the park; it's clearly unsafe. Even if the city doesn't care about the animals (which it obviously doesn't), it should be embarrassed to have a park with sick and dead baby ducks everywhere. It should be concerned about what people and their pets are being exposed to. It's disgusting. If your dog goes in the water, it will get sick. There are leash laws, and your dog should be on a leash anyway, but do not let your dog near the water.
google avatar

Melissa E.

Yelp
Beautiful location....huge pond, ducks, lots of picnic options and walking areas. This park seems to be more family-oriented than other options in town (less "scary" people). There is a summer farmers market here on Friday evenings which is pretty cool.
google avatar

Phuong B.

Yelp
I came to the park today to enjoy a beautiful spring day. Unfortunately what I found was a complete mess! The area around the southeast playground was full of trash! Garbage was littered everywhere! I snapped a few pictures to prove that this was no exaggeration. I have never seen the park in this state before. This review is strictly for today. I have been to this park countless other times and have never seen it like this. It is not completely the parks responsibility. Has no one ever heard that they should clean up after themselves???!!!! Shame on the people that left this mess for someone else to deal with!
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Best park in Salt Lake bar none! While it may only be the second biggest here, it definitely feels more spread out. There's plenty of room to roam, a small creek, a pond with ducks, multiple playgrounds, a jogging track, basketball courts, sledding hills. This place has it all! I could spend all day here... and occasionally I do!
google avatar

Kenny S.

Yelp
Another nice park and it's quite large. There are quite a few places to reserve for BBQ's and get together including some nestled away if you'd prefer a more private outing. There's a pond which at my most recent visit was low and stinky but maybe that was temporary. There are huge stretches of grass to play in or to get away and sun bath. And in between and bordering the neighboring school you will find little woodsy paths to go exploring on. Another bonus is this park connects via a walkway underneath 1300 East to the Hidden Hollow natural area. A nice little nature walk park that exits up near the little shopping district. Filled with more streams and paths to wear out kids and pups.
google avatar

R H.

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid, use to ice skate on the pond back then when I was a teen. Today it's still a favorite, all 4 seasons, anytime is a good time. I've been walking my dogs here for 20+ years, always a good place to go. Clean, well maintained, people are friendly and healthy. My daughter now as an adult has many memories here and when she visits, she takes her friends there or just goes out with me for a nice 2 mile walk with the dogs.

Yelp
I'm really surprised there aren't more reviews for Sugar House Park. Just went here yesterday on a picnic with my boyfriend, and it was absolutely gorgeous just sitting by the pond and feeding ducks. I've been coming here for years, however, because Sugarhouse is such a great location to plan get togethers. They have plenty of pavilions that you can rent during the year, with plenty of tables, grlling pits, bathrooms, and water fountains. Not to mention, the rolling hills, the massive pond, the little creeks, basketball courts, volleyball courts, and a selection of playgrounds. I've found it to be a perfect park because it has so much parking available, yet there is still a lot of land for running, bbqs, playing sports, having water fights, and so much more. Would highly recommend if you are planning: a work function, family reunion, friendly get together, romantic picnic, or if you just want to get some fresh air outdoors while taking a leisurely jog. Note: The park is designed so you can only drive in one direction, so if you miss your parking area (i.e., for the pavilion you are supposed to meet at for whatever function), you have to go around the entire park all over again. And it gets super crowded during summer holidays, including 4th of July, 24th of July, Memorial Day, etc. 2nd Note: Great place to go sledding in the winter.
google avatar

Vida A.

Yelp
This is a great park in the middle of the city. Easily accessible off the freeway. Great views of the mountains. Always clean. Great place to take your dogs for a stroll, a good run, feed the birds, play on the swings, or go sledding in the winter. When I was going to the U I did see one of my professor's parked by him self, don't know if he was waiting for a booty call or what, but hey it's a park, weird shit goes down. At least this park its under wraps and doesnt make you feel sketchy.

Yelp
Snuggled up against the Wasatch front with Mt Olympus standing guard flocks of fowl flutter in to partake of the wide open grasses and pond for a dip. Pines abound songs fill the air and life begins to open up to all.
google avatar

Hisham B.

Yelp
Love this park. The view it has is simply amazing. Very relaxing and really well taken care of. One of my all time favorite parks. Great spot for a daily walk/jog too. Calm and peaceful unless you are here on a 4th of July then it's total chaos in a fun celebrating way :) a must see for any SLC visitor.

Yelp
This park has everything one could want out of a man-made-enclosed-area-for-human-activities.. It has sledding hills, basketball courts, a nice outdoor track for runners, grassy nulls for sun lounging, mature trees for the shade lovers, play grounds for the little babes, plenty of room for any sort of activity.. The list is endless if you allow your brain to use some brain cells for you know, living and enjoying the outside world. They always have great activities such as the easter egg hunt for autism, plenty of 5K's that I have enjoyed participating in, and in all honesty... this is where I train for any of my runs AKA Ragnar etc due to it having hills and such to train on.. I wish I lived a bit closer but you can't always get what you want. The only complaint I have, is that one of the playgrounds (centered in the middle) could use a little TLC. Lucky for them, my little babes prefers swinging up into the clouds!

Yelp
I've been here for a few events and every time I come I always promise I'll come back at my leisure for a good run around the park. It's actually very nice here. My school hosted a 5k here and this is the perfect place to hold something like that. Its very nice and green. Well kept. Caution: driving is one way around the park. I learned this quick by just driving in the wrong direction upon my first visit. It's BBQ, kid, runner and bike rider friendly. The whole Sugarhouse community is gorgeous really so it's surrounded by nice homes and a comfortable atmosphere. Usually people stay to walk/run around the park late so must be safe. There are a couple little eateries right outside the park too. Haven't tried them yet but they're sure on my list.

Yelp
This park is so gorgeous and the closest thing I've found to Central Park since I moved here. I just wish the garbage and bird mess was maintained better.

Yelp
You know this is such a great place to do many activities. I enjoy coming to Sugar House Park to sit on the grass, read a book, watch the lake, drink my boba from Tea Bar, and collect my thoughts. However, getting out of the park is dreadful since there is only one way out. It usually takes me twenty minutes to get back onto the main street.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Sugar House Park is one of the larger parks close to the downtown area (Liberty Park being the other), and it's a good'un. This park seems to have it all. There is a big lake where you can feed the ducks and geese; several pavilions that can be reserved for private functions; playgrounds and basketball courts; a giant hill for sledding in the winter and ice blocking in the summer; a wide, one-way street that loops around the park and is very friendly for runners/walkers/bikers; and LOTS of open, grassy greenspace. Two of my personal favorite things is seeing the creek swell with snowmelt in the spring and watching people who have more interesting hobbies than me. Hey, it's cool to watch people practice tightrope walking!
google avatar

Dino D.

Yelp
This is a really nice suburban park with lots of grass and wide open spaces. There is as perimeter road with a walking and bike path too. Most people walk their dogs there. A few intrepid folks like me sought out the interior for some bootleg off leash fun. I would say make sure your dog is solid under voice command as oblivious families and walkers of small dogs will wander over to you and bother your dog even when it is obvious some serious training is going on. Good afternoon.
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
I like this park a lot. It's big enough that you can drive around to the different lots to find one that isn't crowded. Every time I've been there it's always well-kept and clean. And the SCA (sca.org) usually has their fighter's practice there on Tuesdays from 7-9ish. So, if you enjoy watching people suit up in armor and smack each other with big sticks, go check it out!

Yelp
This park is one of the great parks available to those who live in SLC. Open year round and great for jogging or just lounging and catching some rays. I've been told its over 100 acres and unlike some of the other parks around Salt Lake proper, its not totally dominated by a pond, although it has one. There's a nice loop of trails and access roads for jogging or riding your bike and there always seems to be plenty of parking Easy access, great facilities and beautiful scenery makes this a 5 star recreation experience.

Sugar House Park is great for spending an hour or two. Great sledding hill for snowy winter days. Park can be very busy, even on weekdays. Plenty of ducks and geese to feed, trails to walk and the new connecting trail to Sugar House is neat!.
