After reading several other reviews I was excitied to give the bakery a try. From what I gathered i shouldn't expect much from the atmosphere, but the quality from what I read was phenomenonal. We ended up ordering two types of muffins and it was 50/50. The blueberry muffin was flavorful, moist, and I'd recommend. However, the pumpkin muffin was dry, the only flavor present was vanilla, and laked any want to eat more than a few bites. With our two choices we ordered being good and not so great, it seems it's a 50/50 shot of liking what you order.

We ordered our wedding cake here along with matching cupcakes on Oct 12. We ordered a strawberry shortcake flavor which tasted fine but unfortunately they spelt just married wrong. It looks to be spelt jist married. We had a friend pick up the cake so we couldn't catch the error or disappointment. The picture of the cake is after my planner and dad took some of the black frosting to add a dot above the "j" and added the flowers to try and save the cake. When we got to the cake for cake cutting and seen the reveal it immediately caught my eye but at that point nothing could be done. Everyone seen the mistake and pointed it out as well. It will now be a permanent wedding memory of the horrible spelling on our wedding cake. I was also nervous about this happening due to reading a past review about this exact thing happening after we prepaid for the cake. Proceed with caution.

Ordered a German chocolate cake for my dad’s birthday and it was so delicious. They were very helpful and accommodated my order in 2 days. Very satisfied! Thank you!

Google
Amazing Paninis, the tomatoes were so fresh and sweet! Great price, and it's obvious that they use fresh, good ingredients. They also have the cutest necklaces!

I love to take my grandkids for sweet treats here. I have ordered many B-day cakes, and they never disappoint. During covid lockdown, they created cookie kits they would deliver. I sent several to different families with kids on lockdown. This is a local business I love to support. Incredible!!!

Google
Mediocre pastries, we stopped by this morning for a few treats but the only thing we thought was good was their key lime tart and lemon meringue pie. The cinnamon roll was cold and hard. The Dutch apple pie wasn’t anything special. The muffins were same quality as Costco.

Google
We disappointed this bakery store. We are visitors from Seattle. We wanted to eat a fresh bakeries and coffee in the morning. I had a hard time finding the location of the store. I found a delicious bread pudding so I ordered it. But it was horrible taste, cold and hard. We asked to warm it up. And almond croissant is no good too. We're expected to have a fresh bakeries. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Google
The paninis here are amazing. The zucchini panini is one of the best I've ever had! The workers are also very nice.

Yelp
Sugar Pine Bakery was so easy to work with! Most places were closed for the holidays and I was really worried that a birthday cake wasn't going to happen, but they made my husband's 50th a success! The cake looked and tasted great! (Vanilla with raspberry filling)

Yelp
Sugar Pine Bakery is a small little bakery/cafe that has won several awards. Baked goods and desserts. The service was nice, patient, and friendly. They have inside seating available. We tried a couple of items...plain butter croissant and a blueberry Scone.

Alexis M.

Yelp
We got a cake from Sugar Pine Bakery, and it was fantastic! The cream was light and fluffy, and the cake itself was incredibly moist. The buttercream on the outside was a bit hard and needed some time to thaw, but other than that, it was perfect. It's definitely a great spot, and I'd highly recommend it if you're in the Tahoe area!

Yelp
Went into the bakery one morning to try out a couple of pastries . It was fairly early (about 9a) so they had most of the selection . We ended up trying the chocolate croissant which was on (3.5/5) and the pecan pie which was...ok(3.5/5). Both didn't feel super fresh but the dough was quite crispy and the filling was reasonable . I would probably try other places next time

Yelp
I wanted to get a cake for my anniversary and found this place because it was one of (if not the only) the places that make vegan cakes. They had a couple good reviews about the vegan cake so I was optimistic. I went on their website to look at what they offered and called them to make an order. I originally was envisioning a heart shaped cake one of the other reviews, so I asked about the price. The employee had to ask someone and asked to call me back. I admittedly forgot about it as well, but I didn't get a call back that day. The next day I called again and they apologized for not returning the call because it got busy. The delay in ordering also caused me to have to schedule pick up for a later time slot, which messed with my schedule. The heart shaped cake would have been like $75 I think ( I don't remember exactly). So I opted for just a round cake instead. When I started my order, I was informed that the vegan option would be extra. I think it was $5 or $10 extra. Not bad but I would have liked to have been able to see that on the website. It would have also been an extra $5 to have both blueberries and strawberries. I ended up getting just strawberries. I requested a simple white cake with white border piping and a big red number 5 in the middle. When I went to pick up the cake, it did not look how I had imagined. But I hid my disappointment because I didn't want to be a bother and I didn't have time to have them redo it and come back. Maybe my request got lost in communication, I admit I could have been more specific. But I did not request red piping on the borders, just red writing. The 5 was also a bit uncentered. The nail in the coffin was when I was handed the cake and the box was taped open. At first I thought it was to be able to see the cake, but I realized the cake was too tall for the box. I would have gladly paid the same price for a smaller cake if it meant it would fit in the box. Because of this, the cake decoration ended up being damaged in transit. I have not had many vegan cakes, but I was excited from other reviews for the taste. The flavor itself was good, but the texture was not. The bottom, top, and outside parts/layers were dry, while the inside was better, but very dense. However, the whipped cream was good and I could have thought it was real dairy. I don't know how their regular cakes and desserts are but I personally would not recommend the vegan cake.

Yelp
Definitely was expecting a more trendy spot after seeing how highly rated this spot was, but its humble location is part of its charm. Small, quaint and clean. The best brownie I've ever had and my husband loved the pie. Would definitely stop by again next time we're in town!

Yelp
This is a nice bakery to try in South Lake Tahoe. The baked goods are fresh, and the croissants are flaky. The staff were nice and helpful. The vibe is low-key. You go there, grab some delicious sweets, then head out to the lake. A very nice find in South Lake Tahoe.

Julyana T.

Yelp
My favorite is the blueberry streusel. Crumbly on top, moist and blueberry goodness on the bottom. Not overly sweet. Delish My husband enjoyed the bread pudding. My boys enjoyed the cinnamon roll and chocolate croissant. The lemon meringue is too sweet for me though, but it seems to be one of their customers' favorite.

Yelp
Sugar Pine Bakery is a hidden gem. It's tucked away on Lake Tahoe Blvd, and you'll miss it if you don't see the sign. They seem to be a small team, and when you walk in, there doesn't seem to be much on offer (or maybe everything was sold out!). They do seem to have a steady flow of customers. Either way, definitely inquire about their made-to-order desserts and cakes! I ordered my wedding cake from Sugar Pine Bakery and I thought the cake we got was delicious. I ordered a 2 tier cake - 8" carrot cake and 12" sunday cake, and they delivered it to my venue for a fee. When you email them to inquire on wedding cakes or other desserts, they will provide you with their full listing of flavors, options, and pricing. They are a small operation, so I highly recommend you get everything in writing (order form/contract) and get a receipt if you pay a deposit or full payment via phone. We also ordered their Lemon Meringue and Pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. The Lemon Meringue was a bit too sweet for me, but I loved the pumpkin pie!

Yelp
Wow! We purchased a cake sight unseen from SugarPine Bakery! We don't live in the area but decided on having our wedding in Reno,NV with our dinner in South Lake Tahoe, CA. We spoke to the bakery via email only and decided on a naked cake, 2 tier with 2 different flavors, lemon and strawberry jam for the fillings. And YUM! We were so impressed with the flavors the cake has as well as the way it was presented! It was delicious! And it was perfect for our woodsy themed wedding. I'll update the review when I get more photos back from friends & family but here is what I have for now. Absolutely would recommend Sugar Pine Bakery for your wedding cake! Fast responses via email and the cake was ready when they said it would be. Wonderful service from start to finish! Thank you!!

Yelp
This is an average bakery. We had a lemon poppyseed muffin that had a nice topping, but was too chewy as though it had been over mixed. The blueberry scone was fine. I had copy that was good.

Yelp
Service was excellent. Extremely responsive, helpful, and the cake was gorgeous! The staff was great

Yelp
Great experience! Came into town for a birthday weekend, sugar pine bakery was awesome to work with. We talked over the phone multiple times and sent emails throughout the week. They even handled my last minute changes to the order! Not only were the cakes beautiful and exactly what I asked for but tasted amazing! The birthday girls were very happy with the cakes Thank you sugar pine bakery for everything! ( cake lettering toppings were not from them)

M R.

Yelp
We had two really amazing coffee drinks here - And the service was great. The cakes you order 3-4 days in advance. Definitely check out for a quick snack or party planning.

Yelp
I couldn't be happier with the order they made me. I live in Florida and was coming to Tahoe for my boyfriend's birthday and wanted special cupcakes made. I called and placed the order like 2 weeks in advance and then they confirmed with me the week before. They were very professional via email and phone. I picked up the cupcakes and was blown away by them, I wish I was able to try more of their desserts because the bakery was so cute inside. It was everything I asked for and the taste was AMAZING! If you need cupcakes in Lake Tahoe, come here- you won't regret it! This bakery is the best! Thank you so much!! You made his birthday absolutely perfe

Erin A.

Yelp
A day in Tahoe without one of their goodies is no day at all -- I like that they are a bakery "basics" menu that has mastered their craft rather than trying to be bleeding edge trendy. S'mores & cheesecake brownies are best in class.

Alycia S.

Yelp
Location is great, ambiance is good. There are many desserts and treats to choose from...I'm rating this specifically on the muffins. Horrible. Don't buy them. I tried pretty much all the flavors bc my mom decided to buy them when she went and bring them as a treat the same morning.... pumpkin (no pumpkin flavor/dry) blueberry (dry and hardly any blue berries)...lemon and poppy seeds (same as others)....the recipe needs to be reworked. So if you come here great! Buy something that is not a muffin....they taste old they are so bad. You should just get your muffins at Costco or Safeway....the only way to eat these muffins is dunking them in coffee like a freaking scone...wait I had better store bought scones...ok rant over!

Debbie V.

Yelp
First visit here and was excited to try this bakery. Unfortunately the lack of Service was awful! Would give zero stars if I could! Beware both Bakery and bathroom are dirty. Long wait for take out order and the place was empty! So we sat at an empty table and was rudely told by the counter staff it was for employees to eat and we should stand :( uhhhh wow... Asked for 1/2 & 1/2 for my ice coffee and was waived toward a dirty side table with 3 warm bedraggled creamer pods. Then they acted insulted when I asked for fresh creamer. Didn't help that their ice coffee was luke warm with mostly melted ice. Ick! The worse was that the BLT was disgusting! A cold panini with barely cooked slimy cheap bacon and aged brown lettuce. We tossed the entire meal in the trash and would of asked for a refund but the experience was already so negative it was not worth the effort. Don't waste your money at this nasty place. So many nicer spots in SLT to visit.

Debbie H.

Yelp
We tried some of the muffins and a cannoli as well as the bagel sandwiches..Our experience with the food and service was mediocre at best. The food wasn't anything to rave about. It wasn't bad though not necessarily tasty or fresh. The special the muffins were stale. There wasn't enough help, it took quite a while for us to get our food. I like to support local businesses and small businesses, though I wouldn't go out of my way to support this one necessarily again. They rang us up for all our sandwiches, we were seated, received part of our food and the clerk proceeded to tell us she forgot to ring us up for one sandwich. She asked him to come up and pay for it. At this point I would have thought that she just would have written off us paying for that sandwich and inconvenience us to come back up there to pay for it.

Yelp
Wow I have to say that these baked goodies were divine! Cute little shop and great friendly service. Scones were lightly crisp on edges and so moist and tasty inside. Muffins were of generous size and again so tasty and moist inside. Chocolate chip cookie was far from ordinary and a mix of crisp and chewy, mmmmm soooo good! Banana pudding was Amazing and so full of flavor and gooey textures which I heated and paired well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!! This bakery will be added to my "must stop" whenever in Tahoe!

Kate T.

Yelp
Cinnamon rolls and breakfast bagel sandwiches were delicious! I think it's a small family owned business so I'm happy to support local. The customer service is slightly slow but you can expect that when only a few people are working. All around, would recommend.

Brandon M.

Yelp
I had a wonderful experience ordering a cake from Sugar Pine Bakery. My wife and I were celebrating her 50th birthday in South Lake Tahoe, and I wanted to find a bakery to make her a cake to be picked up. The entire process was easy and they were able to put a custom illustration (on a sugar layer) onto the cake itself. When we picked it up, we were amazed by all the other treats and pastries that Sugar Pine had to offer. I highly recommend stopping by on your next visit to Tahoe!

Yelp
Excellent customer service. Clean facilities. Welcoming staff. Great donuts! The cinnamon roles were not as "cinnamony" or crunchy as I like, they were more like wonder bread. The icing could use a recipe update to be more decadent and cream cheesy. Attentive on the phone as well. I called back after picking up cinnamon rolls and donuts to be sure there were no nuts in either of them for my nut free child and the person was very welcome and informative that they had only pecans for the pies and put me at ease with his assurance.

Elisa L.

Yelp
Went to Lake Tahoe to Celebrate a birthday. We got our cake from here and it was a really good butter cream cake, cute design and overall good experience.

Amabelle O.

Yelp
Cinnamon rolls are the best and also the cheesecake tarts :) The ambience is cozy and the smell of fresh bread makes it so welcoming .

Maria I.

Yelp
Variety of pies, cakes and baked goods. Their croissants are outstanding! Highly recommend!!! Very pleasant staff

Maria Z.

Yelp
I really appreciate the effort and dedication they put on this cake!.. my daughter loved it so much And it was delicious too.. thank you sugar pine you never let me down.

Sunshine L.

Yelp
Decor was bare bones but baked goods were pretty good. Lemon meringue tart was excellent. Berry turnover was made from tart dough, not puff pastry so I was disappointed because it was like a pop tart. The cream horn was good but insubstantial and needed a bit more sweetness. They also have espresso drinks here, and the americano was fine. Customer service was okay.

Selina S.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about their vegan cakes!! Since I'm never a fan of grocery readymade vegan cakes, this is the only place in the town where I order vegan cakes for all special occasions. They're the best.

Jessica S.

Yelp
Best scones in my life. I dream about the bread pudding. Nice people. Local art for sale

Brian W.

Yelp
Had to find an alternative pie place since Hope Valley closed. This place is combined and their pies are amazing.

Yelp
Difficult to find as bakery is behind a narrow parking lot not easily visible from busy Lake Tahoe blvd, and accessible only through a narrow one way corridor. Only reason we came here was wife purchased a $4 www.restaurant.com voucher for $2. She intended to buy the sandwich in the morning, and eat it for lunch during our hike. Came here and the person in front of us ordered a dozen donuts, each one different. Took 6 minutes for him to complete his selection, as not all his first choices were available. Ordered the $7 turkey panini sandwich. Had to wait maybe 8 minutes for the sandwich to be made. Came with lettuce, tomato, mayo and multiple slices of processed turkey meat on freshly grilled 9 grain bread. Ordinary sandwich, but a deal for the $5 we paid. Came in a take out container, with limited dine in and outdoor dining both facing the parking lot. We did not eat these during our hike, as server discouraged eating panini sandwich after being stored for hours in our daypacks. It's like eating cold toast, and don't want to take a chance on turkey growing bacteria. Staff meeting the public and handled the food orders was wearing a mask and plastic gloves, but behind the scenes, the sandwich preparer behind the partially open kitchen door, was maskless and gloveless. I didn't hear anybody sneezing while our sandwich was being made!

Cory N.

Yelp
Just stopped in for coffee and a pastry while on the road. The place is clean, the staff friendly. The coffee was really good. So much better than the big chains. And the scone was too good. One of the best I've had. Crispy but buttery, with big blueberries.

Chris H.

Yelp
Not super happy, at all. We ordered cupcakes weeks ago for a friend's baby shower. They were scheduled to be picked up at 7:30am the morning of the baby shower, which is when we arrived to pick them up. They were NOT ready and staff asked about the order details about 5 times and then asked us to return at 10:15. Additionally, what they started to do for decoration was not what we asked for or what I was even told was an option. So I return at 10:15 to pick them up and they were still NOT ready and asked us to come back at 11:15! For this total inconvenience, they only offered 10% off. I guess that's something, but for their massive untimeliness and not decorating them the way originally discussed, there should be a better discount. Do not think I will ever use their services again, nor will I recommend them.

Ryan P.

Yelp
The baked desserts are good but nothing to write home about. I can't say it's the best I've had, but it'll do if you want a sweet freshly baked dessert. I had: - almond croissant (almond filling wasn't my cup of tea- I prefer the filling to be a palatable pastry consistency. This was the consistency of liquid. - Apple bread pudding: not too sweet (ask for it warmed) - bear claw: best of the three. Can't go wrong with this one! - oat milk green matcha tea latte (skip this- not enough matcha at all, 80%milk and 20%matcha) - sugar free vanilla americano (skip this - they added a lot milk and I didn't ask for any milk/ cream at all!) Get there early, parking lot is pretty spacious, but baked goods go fast! All in all, stay away from the drinks and stick to classic desserts.

Lynnelle E.

Yelp
I ordered a cake here for my dad's 65th birthday. We were celebrating my dad's birthday and retirement, along with our first time visiting Tahoe. It was definitely an eventful weekend and one we will never forget. I decided to order from a local bakery, because why not? Help local businesses and try something new. Placing the order was easy and the people who worked there was super helpful. I did a 2 tier cake for 20 people. 1st tier was marble with chocolate ganache 2nd tier was strawberry shortcake with vanilla custard. Surprisingly, everyone loved the marble with chocolate ganache the best. I really want to go back and go to the store and try they're baked goods. We did a delivery but drove past the store while sight seeing. Unfortunately, they were closed already.

Gary S.

Yelp
They have a fantastic menu. Their food is really good. We bought a cake and it was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

Kislev A.

Yelp
Awesome mini pies and tarts. The lemon tarts had a great tart base. The meringue is well done. The croissants were wonderfully flaky.

Kira J.

Yelp
Stopped by for scones and a muffin while on a lake walk. Both my friend and I were impressed that the pastries tasted totally homemade and fresh. Would go again.

Christine M.

Yelp
We ordered a specialty cake that was ready on time and just the way we requested it! All of our guests raved about the birthday cake and many did not know it was dairy free! It was absolutely delicious! Thank you for making our son's birthday so special with a cake he could actually enjoy!

Goguin G.

Yelp
Tried breakfast sandwiches, croissants etc. Food was made with fresh ingredients and was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. I must return to try out the pies and pastries. They looked yummy and perhaps local favorites...

Alison R.

Yelp
They had a nice selection of donuts and pastries, unfortunately I was visiting specifically for gluten-free items based on other yelp reviews. I was disappointed when I asked and the gentleman behind the counter said they rarely have any gluten-free items. Hope this helps anyone else trying to hunt down GF treats in the future.

austin e.

Yelp
Me and my partner are from Fresno and scheduled a cake tasting for our upcoming wedding. We drove 5 hours to meet with potential cake vendors for our wedding and were super excited. However the samples they gave us were so dry they crumbled as soon as we cut into them. Very disappointing experience for the price. Thankfully they did not charge us for this experience however we travelled far to be here.

Mike G.

Yelp
I love bakeries, but I'm sorry This one's not the best not to mention the gentleman behind the counter today 8/9 is in no hurry to help the 10 people in line Many choices out there find another one please

Liz M.

Yelp
Just add this to your "must stop" list. The fresh bread is out of this world. We picked up a loaf of the sourdough and devoured it. Boxes of pastries are a must but so are the sandwich. The zucchini panini is warm, satisfying and perfect any season...add avocado. Just sayin. The people here are also 5-star worthy. We went multiple days during a visit to Tahoe and every person helping us was just like asking family for some toast. They were so friendly and patient as we spent WAY too much time deciding. Oh and yes...the lemon meringue tart IS as good as it looks.

Nat W.

Yelp
First thing I noticed....dirty tables. And there were no customers there but I guess employees really do not care enough to clean tables when not busy. I only had their Lemon meringue that people are raving about. It was not bad but nothing special. I guess I will have to try more items next time to really see what this #1 best bakery in South Lake Tahoe is all about.

EL L.

Yelp
All 3 items we purchased were stale and certainly not freshly baked. Could have gotten better fresher pastries at Safeway!
