Excellent ribs and briskets. Tri-tip are like a small cut from steak. Potato salad, jalapeno mac and cheese are good. Good decent price, portion appeared smaller but can feed two.

Small town BBQ with big flavor. Small inside eating area. Outdoor seating available. Staff was super nice. Definitely must stop here

The pulled pork BBQ sandwich was delicious - the portion was big, the toasts were nicely grilled with butter and the meat was super flavourful. One issue was that we came for pork ribs but they ran out of them in the middle of the day which was quite weird for a barbecue place. I can still recommend this place if you are around but maybe not worth travelling from far away since they may not have what you are looking for

Had the waygu burger with a side of pull pork/mac n cheese. Really good flavor. Staff was friendly, atmosphere is nice and homey vibes. Definitely give them a try.

Ordered three tri-tip sandwiches and was completely blown away they were so delicious! there was plenty of very thin sliced meat in the sandwich and it was so tender we just loved it I was told also by the chef They cooked the meat fresh every morning and when they run out that’s it so my advice is to order your food early and you can also request a time later in the day to pick it up and they will make sure and set it aside for you.. thank you guys!!

Update: This place is literally the BEST food in town. Nothing is better. The service is phenomenal, the staff is always friendly. Thanks to the staff for doing such a great job. This place is a great little gem. The pulled pork grilled cheese I had was simply amazing. Loved the jalapeno Mac and cheese. Cheesecake was great as well. The cashier was very nice and was customer focused. Definitely the best spot to eat in town!

Food wasn't to die for but it was goo. They do need to work on how to be more friendly to customers the cash register looked like she was in a pissy mood. We ate and kept fighting with the flies and couldn't eat in peace

One of the best tri tip sandwiches I've had and I travel alot.. .. best Mac and cheese pulled pork combo's I've ever had. The workers were very nice aswell.

Food is killer. My favorite BBQ place, they do it right. Service is great, ambiance is amazing, and highly recommend if ur in the area.

Food was amazing, great portions, cute setting. Would give it a 5 star rating but the cashier definitely doesn't like her job. We decided to go with chicken, she said they were out which is fine it was the way she delivered the message. When she brought us our food she drop the plate onto the table and said "here" woah... I hope she was just having a bad day and not how she is everyday cause geez that's one of the worst service I've had in a while.

Fire and desire = the bbq from Sugar Rays! Delicious tri-tip, bbq brisket, bbq chicken and crazy good food jalapeno Mac and cheese and chili. Extremely reasonable meal! 3 meat platter with beans and 2 sides for $30! The quality and product value just can't beat. Super cute house too. I highly recommend Sugar Ray's BBQ

What a great place to eat amazing BBQ! This place is way more than it seems. Super cute with two outside seating areas (one on the front porch) of this converted house. You can smell BBQ as soon as you get out of the car. Plenty of curbside parking on the street. Clean and really cute interior coupled w an amazing, kind and really helpful staff and add on the best BBQ I have ever had and we have a winner. My tri-tip sandwich was big enough to feed one really hungry person or two that weren't so hungry. Tried the homemade potato salad and it was great as well. We were heading north on the 99 and got hungry. Don't miss this opportunity to get off, see a little of Chowchilla and find a new place to eat. Seriously go eat here soon!!! You won't regret it. Loved the food. Biggest complaint is they are simply not open for dinner (close at 5:00 PM) and they are not open on the week end at all. That keeps most working people from ever enjoying their BBQ. If they were open until 6:00 PM a whole lot more patrons could partake. Too bad.

Very solid brisket and ribs. Chicken was pretty good as well and I loved the bread. Look forward to trying other items.

If you're in the area and want awesome bbq, this is a must try. They are in what looks like an old house but don't let that stop you from trying it. Great pulled pork and brisket, sausage is great too. Haven't tried everything but definitely coming back. Friendly staff that is accommodating.

Great food in Chowchilla! Glad I found this place. Very clean inside and out. Menu had several things I wanted but went with the Tri tip

Put on hold for a while...almost 8 minutes and my mother was not happy with that. Called them again and it went to voicemail. Then, called again and asked to be put on hold. My mother said no and that she was on hold, got hunk up on and wanted to order. The worker told her to go ahead and order. She ordered 2 spicy chicken meals. Both with the jalapeño bacon Mac N Cheese and potato salad. The worker said it would be ready in 10 minutes. We went to get it. It's in a cute little house. We waited in line. They moved really slow. The worker apologized for the wait. The restaurant is nice. Clean and safe. They have inside and outside seating to enjoy the food. Luckily, the order was ready and handed over in their cute bag. The worker was kind. Said to enjoy! I got everything set up. Per usual. The bbq chicken was really delicious! Great bbq taste and even better with the bbq sauce! Seasoned really well! It came with bread and that was fresh tasted homemade. The jalapeño bacon macaroni was flavorful! Really good spicy taste! The potato salad was really good too! Lots of flavor in a really good lunch! Plus, it's s lot of food! Leftovers for days! My mother said hers was really good. She thought it was really good! Good service and really good food! Recommended!

Ordered cinnamon rolls in advance, decided to try the food while we were there. At 11:30 they were out of everything besides brisket & pulled pork, ordered the food & watched the 4 people behind us get served before they even made our food. When I asked why it took so long they had no answer & in fact just ignored the question.

I got the spicy brisket sandwich . It was very tasty and very reasonable for 13.50 $ they were fast helpful with the menu . I highly recommend this little house as a restaurant. I was just passing through chowchilla Ca when I happened to glance over and seeing a house selling bbq I will be back forsure .

Definitely worth the drive!! A nice little surprise in the middle of town. Tri tip was perfectly cooked, brisket was phenomenal and the homemade Mac and cheese just made it all that much better. We will definitely be back. Staff was super helpful and let us know to order ahead if your going to be picking up later in the day as they sell out of meat on the regular!

My son took me here, and the tri tip was delicious! Their Mac n cheese is amazing. I was looking forward to the brisket, and they ran out of it. So tip arrive early.

We found this place out of the blue and decided to stop in... it was so good, my wife and I split a three meat plate that came with Mac and cheese and their chili, we almost ordered a second plate but the one was enough for us to share... definitely recommend

If your not local. This is a hidden gem. Order ahead if possible as it's a small place that gets busy fast. Food was great, can't wait to be back in the area to try some more!

Kept meaning to stop here and finally did. The downside, they dont sell brisket by the pound, just sandwich, but they will wrap separate. Half rack Ribs were great, very meaty and pulled off bone just right. Spicy sauce very good. Had potato salad and jalapeno mac & cheese. All for $22.00 cant beat it.

Awesome food!!! It's the kind of food you get when you want homemade comfort food but your grandma isn't here to cook for you. The ribs were fall off the bone. The Mac and cheeses were 5 star all the way. Tri tip was tender and juicy. The cobbler... I told my son it was "slap yo momma" good. I can't wait to go back!!

I've been waiting to try this local BBQ spot since they advertised their upcoming grand opening. Finally got my chance last Friday. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, big BBQ tri-tip meal with the jalapeño Mac and Cheese and the apple slaw for sides. The pulled pork was a hefty delicious sandwich. Plenty of pulled pork. The tri-tip was extremely tender with the perfect smoky flavor. It came with a grilled 6" roll and was very filling. The jalapeño Mac and cheese was very good and it definitely is my new go to side. The apple slaw was OK but they had run out of the potato salad which was going to be my first pick. Overall a great local BBQ spot which will be in my restaurant rotation.

Stumbled onto this place with my wife and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a brisket sandwich and it was the best meat sandwich I've ever had. Delicious and reasonably priced the food was I will be back again. Only downside is to check the business hours before heading out. The place was immaculately clean and the staff was friendly.

Food was incredible. Got the tri tip sandwich. Meat was tender and juicy. Sandwich was big. Cool learned his bbq from texas and Louisiana, so it definitely has a southern bbq style. Hospitality was wonderful. Cook spent time with me talking about the company and where he came from to where he is. Wonderful people. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful. Feels like home when you walk in. Highly HIGHLY recommend.

While in town I stopped at this place. I had the bbq pulled chicken sandwich on a brioche bun. I got it with the apple slaw, no sauce. The meat was tasty and the slaw gave it a little sweetness and crunch. Super yummy. The jalapeno mac was creamy with a little bit of spice. I added my chicken to it...I think I've created a food master piece lol I suggest they create that on their menu. Cobbler was just as yummy as everything else. Did I mention they have Pepsi!? Next time I'm pushing thru on the 99, I'll be back.

Food was very good ! Service was fast . Ribs fell off the bone, loved the BBQ sauce. Jalapeño Bacon Mac N Cheese was the bomb ! You can eat inside or outside on porch. Will definitely go eat there again !

We were passing through Chowchilla today and discovered Sugar Ray's BBQ. The food was absolutely delicious! The best part of our meal was the brisket quesadilla. Unbelievable! Best quesadilla I've ever eaten. The creamy apple slaw was a perfect blend of sweet sauce between cabbage, carrots and apple. We also had a perfectly cooked white meat chicken sandwich, with BBQ sauce, which was exceptionally good. All the meat was melt in your mouth tender, with the just the right amount of smokey flavor. Everything is made fresh to order. If you are in the area, don't miss out on this great little restaurant. The staff were super friendly, great service!

The brisket is great the staff was fabulous great find on a stop on a long road trip.

We were looking for a place to eat coming up to sac from LA and happened on this charming BBQ spot. The ambiance was awesome everyone was super friendly and the outdoor patio was really well put together. The food was outstanding, we had the half chicken and tri tip sandwich and they both rocked. It was also some of the best mac and cheese I have ever had. I can't not recommend this place enough 5 huge stars !!!

I have never been disappointed. I usually get something tri-tip based, or once in a while pulled pork. I have never been disappointed! The Jalapeno mac and cheese is an AWESOMEs side - it isn't overpowering and just right!

My family was in the area and spotted this restaurant. A party of 5. I Immediately noticed how clean and open the area was. The host was very professional, polite and friendly. We had a large order. The wait wasn't long at all. My goodness the food was awesome! Ribs, hot links, potato salad, beans, etc. I would give them a 10. If you haven't gone there ..you don't know what you're missing. As we were leaving I gave the chef a thumbs up and said we'll be back. He mentioned that the ribs, etc., Is cooked daily. Not surprised because the food was fresh!!

Decided to stop in chowchilla on our way home and I'm glad we did! Had some delicious homemade bbq. I would definitely recommend the pulled pork and tri-tip sandwich. Decided last minute to get the berry cobbler , and we have no regrets! Only thing that would take it over the top would be if it had whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Owner and staff were super nice . Would def stop here again if we had the chance. Thanks for the yummy lunch !

Stopped here on the way home from a road trip craving some BBQ. They did not disappoint. Food was delicious, service was great, and the business was nice and clean. Definitely stop here for some good bbq!

What a great addition to the little town of Chowchilla! Cute as the day is long. Looks like a place you might find in Georgia where I used to live. The prices are firm but the value is good because the food is bomb. Brisket sandwich with slaw, caramelized onions & spicy BBQ sauce with pickled slaw and chili and a pickle. Spicy, tender and yummy. All fantastic as was the iced tea. Super clean, you can see the kitchen and prep area. What a gem.

This is the best bbq in the Central Valley by a long shot. I recommend this place to everyone, ridiculously good!

Come here every time I am in Chowchilla. Food has always been delicious. Owner was probably not there today at 4pm. Because went in to order to eat there and the two girls said ooo it's 4pm no dine in. Ask don't you close at 5pm said yes but only outside if you want to eat here. No thanks lost a loyal customer. We both lose because your food has always been delicious.

While traveling, On a whim of curiosity I took a step off a beaten path to try this place and it was probably my best decision that day. I almost made the mistake of ordering the chicken sandwich without the apple slaw because I've never liked it, however this was exceptional. Found myself going from the side to dumping it on my sandwich. I'm a very picky BBQ person, difficult even, and I am already missing this place! The staff is also incredibly sweet and thoughtful, it's so refreshing to experience a staff that genuinely cared about the quality of the food they proudly served.

Now this is real BBQ! We hadn't found it in Madera, so we drove up here with friends. We ordered brisket sandwich (which came with slaw and caramelized onions), barbecue chicken sandwich and pulled pork sandwiches. All were excellent, and we topped it off with mouth-watering berry cobbler. We'll definitely be back!

This place is a hidden gem!!! So so delicious and one of the best places to eat. If you are in the mood for something healthy not to worry. Try their garden salad with tri tip. It is divine! Their meals are also super tasty. Great service as well. They even give you a tote bag with their logo to carry your food home if it's a larger order. I try to eat here as often as I can. It's amazing!

Not impressed with the service or the food. The grilled onions need a much finer slice and the slaw was also too rough a chop. They lost our order until I asked and still managed to get it wrong. Only chip flavor was jalapeño. Honestly the best part of the meal was the pickle. Which they also forgot until I asked for it.

Great little gem in Chowchilla. The brisket sandwich was quite large and very tasty. The Mac and cheese with bacon and jalapeños is a must order side. I will definitely eat here again when in town

The tri-tip was good, a little tough or thick for a sandwich, but had good flavor. The potato salad was stated to be a fan favorite however the potatoes were as hard as a rock, so that was disappointing. Other than that, Cute atmosphere, nice staff.

Delicious pulled pork sandwich and bacon jalapeño Mac. Tri tip is great and has a nice smoked flavor. Cinnamon rolls are delicious when available ...hoping they'll bring back the peanut butter cookies and chocolate mousse cupcakes.

I tried Sugar Ray's BBQ for lunch and was not disappointed one bit. I had the Tri Tip Sandwich with the Potato Salad. The sandwich was cooked perfectly and a good size that I could not finish it. The I could not resist the Cheese Cake that was so creamy and yummy!! If you are in Chowchilla give them a try. I also was impressed with the wood bench and metal seating, sometimes booth style seating gets crowded this style was open which is good for families of all sizes.
