Sultans Mediterranean Grill

Was having high hopes for it, but at times it did disappoint to being bland, like it was missing something, the meat, the rice... overall still a good experience, the garlic sauce does the trick to even it out a little bit and spice up the flavours on the meat a little bit. Will try it one more time too see if I could change my opinion on the dish.

I have been familiar with Mediterranean cuisine for a very long time. The establishment’s team clearly follows the traditions of this region. With your own unique handwriting. This is a big plus! The service is polite and attentive. The dishes are always fresh, tasty, juicy and interesting. I was delighted by the richness of tastes of all the dishes, believe me, it was a whole range of impressions. Thank you guys very much! I recommend visiting!

I was disappointed that they did not have any lamb. I ended up getting beef instead. The food was surprisingly good. The beef was delicious. The rice was fluffy and aromatic. I tried ezme for the first time and it was amazing. All the flavors seemed to complement eachother. There was a pretty long line when I got there. They weigh the meat rather than measure it. This takes much longer. They are difficult to hear and they have difficulty hearing the customers. This place could be much more efficient. But most importantly they should have lamb.

First time coming to this restaurant. Me and my family came from Canada and never seen anything like this. There’s always someone cleaning so the place is really clean. The food is really good and well made. I recommend the grilled options the most like the beef kabob. I hope something like this opens in Canada and I will definitely come back 👍🏻

Best Mediterranean food that I've had, hands down. I highly recommend this place, order online though because they are always busy.

This place had pretty good food. But ordering wasn't annoyance. The people in the bag didn't hear very good or didn't understand. They gave us the wrong order. We told The person who's ringing us that that doesn't look right. She gave us an attitude and then finally fixed it. That was pretty annoying. But whatever. I guess everyone has a bad day once in awhile. However the three dishes we got one of them was not so good but the other two are very good. The chicken has very good flavor but it's a bit dry. I will talk to visit them again and if they do better than I will update this.

I truly used to really like this place, but the quality has unfortunately declined. ​The ordering process is now too chaotic to order. The system is disorganized, leading to long waits, overwhelmed staff, and frequent mistakes. It makes dining here a stressful experience. ​More critically, this restaurant is unsafe for vegetarians. For a vegetarian, just a heads up, their food does get contaminated with meat stuff. I observed clear evidence of cross-contamination (shared utensils/meat pieces) which is unacceptable for those with dietary restrictions. ​Due to the chaotic service and severe hygiene concerns, I cannot return or recommend this place until major changes are implemented.

The food taste really good. We ordered a Chicken Kabob plate and chicken wraps. Good portion of chicken. Inside the restaurant was super cold AC on full blast we have to eat outside. The helper that helps the owner must be new . We have to wait for a while for the Chicken kabobs. We will come back try some other food on the menu.

UNDENIABLY the best Mediterranean spot in Bakersfield. No contest. Wide myriad of sides, flavors are out of this world, and everything made as fresh as you can imagine. Your whole plate will be colorful and better yet, delicious. For kebabs, they grill to order so you'll be waiting quite a bit especially if you have to go through their usual long lines. I do think the wait is incredibly worth it. Not a single bad side on here and everything is worth trying. My personal favorites are the ezme and baba gunuj. Again, healthy and flavorful. The roasted potatoes with garlic will leave you wanting more. Plates are hefty and you won't complain about quantity for sure. When you get to their checkout counter, make sure to ask for more garlic (toom), sultan's sauce, and spicy sauce. They'll gladly give you some with no charge!

Food is always fresh and delicious. They're always busy so expect to wait. The plate portions are shareable or come hungry. I had the Kafta plate (#2) with rice, garlic sauce, baba ganoush, garlic potatoes, pasta salad, and pickles. It came With a small pita and I think I will order extra pita next time because they make them onsite. The ambiance is good, busy, and lots of noise. There is indoor and outdoor seating and the place can accommodate a large group. The service is a bit slow given the nature of the food-- they grill per order which ensures the freshness in their food! I do have a gripe this time. The bathrooms are in need of attention... and I am talking about scrubbing and cleaning. I popped into one bathroom and it was not "usable." I waited for one of the guys from the kitchen to come out of the other bathroom. He walked out and left his business in the toilet bowl! I almost puked! That my friends is unacceptable. I hope the business reads this and comes up with a plan to make sure the bathrooms are cleaned and maintained. Don't use the bathroom there - go somewhere else or hold it!! Gotta go and hope you enjoy!

Omg where do I begin, you definitely get your money's worth. The food is unbelievable. It is fresh, handmade, and not dry. The serving size is unlike most places in town. Honestly we could have shared the beef shawarma plate. The rice was moist and had a fantastic flavor burst in every bite. From the sauce to the main course this place knocked it out of the park. For two of us it was just under $40 that included tip. We still have plenty left for a snack or early dinner. The service was quick and steady. Just make sure you do not order at registers, it's on the opposite side that you place your order. The ambiance is casual dinning. There is a small amount of seating inside and outside. If you like Mediterranean food this is the place to check out.

Update - sultans is still so so dang good! Delicious unbeatable flavors. Our favorite now is the chicken swarma plate with cucumber salad, hummus, and it comes with garlic potatoes, and pita bread. It's so much food and we regularly safe half for lunch the next day. The service is always a little rough but the food is worth it. I walked in on a Saturday at 6pm and the line was so long! The restaurant was packed and they had so many people working but it took 25 minutes for me to get my food and I took it to go because there was no space. I'm always happy to wait for sultans though, it's worth it

Their food is amazing. However, the customer service is horrible. The owner's attitude as well they don't care about your time they just want your money. They never pick up their phones and when you keep calling they disconnect it. I've seen this happen in person. I placed an order online and it said my food would be ready at a a certain time. My food still wasn't ready.

Really good chicken plate and garlic sauce . It was super busy but staff moved line fast and also their pita was awesome.

Excellent food! I've had lunch here a couple times and have been so pleased both times! The food is so fresh and the price was fair. The place was busy and we had to wait a bit for our food. The place was clean and workers were nice. The menu is set up in an interesting way, so give yourself a minute to understand it. I can't wait to go back and try something else. Both times I had the chicken shawarma wrap.

Limited menu but what we had was fine and I suspect the other items were good too. 4 employees behind the counter but only 2 working. The males behind the counter seemed to just watch the gals work and were fairly useless with helping anyone. I had questions but no one to ask because one female worker was on the phone clearly handling a problem, the other female employee busy moving to fill meals and the two men stood together talking watching and being useless and not offering help to the two female employees or customers. So this amounted to really poor communication with us the customers. Food good , service has something to be desired. I noticed comments on the restroom. The one I used seemed fine.

Sultans, sultans... Where to begin? I discovered Sultans back in 2022 when I moved here and has quickly became a semi-regular treat for my family. The ambiance could use some enhancement but the food is the real deal, this place rocks. The food is all delicious and I haven't yet had anything I didn't like. I've tried nearly everything on the menu but I keep going back to the beef kefta. The seasoning and texture are just perfect and the garlic potatoes are also amazingly good with generous portions. Lately I default to the beef kefta wrap with everything on it. If I want the potatoes I just make it a combo and I'm set. Staff are friendly and helpful and I've never had a bad experience here. I will keep coming back for the foreseeable future. Thank you Sultans for the excellent food!

Walked in around 6 pm Saturday to an empty restaurant. Four staff behind the counter, zero acknowledgment. After several minutes, another guest walked in and was greeted while we were still waiting. I left. Looking back at other reviews, this kind of indifference seems routine. When months of complaints go unanswered, that's not a bad night, that's management's standard. If you value basic courtesy, go elsewhere.

I love this place for Mediterranean food. There are sooo many choices of good things to eat. Ordering is a little tough, and that's the only problem I have with the place. The staff provides terrific service, and they prep the food right before your eyes. It's a bit daunting for me. Yes, I am one of those order-challenged people, who once it gets complicated, I fall apart. ;) "OK, I get the Swarma Plate with Garlic Potatoes, plus two sides. "Does that include grape leaves?" Then, do I get the hummus, pasta salad, taziki, cucumber salad, tabbouleh, ?!?!? OMG too much. Once the food arrives, the eating arrangements are comfortable. It was a nice day, and we enjoyed our meal outside. The food is really good. If you haven't tried this place and you enjoy Mediterranean food, you have to try it!

This our second time back because Sultan's is delicious. We've oredered chicken both times. This time we each ordered a bowl and the plate. The portions size are good. With the plate, I usually have food leftover. The staff is nice! There is seating indoors and there is seating outside as well. We recommend this place to family who visited from out of town and they loved the food as well.

Beware!! Their signs do not match the prices in their computer system, and they are completely unwilling to honor the sign posted. The woman at the register was unapologetic and rude. This is just flat out bait and switch.

Sultans will never disappoint and is hands down the best Med food in Bakersfield! Favorite: chicken kabob plate with a side of beets and cucumber salad add dressing and red onions, oh and do not miss out on the garlic potatoes! A side of pita and hummus too!

Came in on a Sunday afternoon and the place was full and there were 8 staff busily working. I was able to order quickly, but multiple people behind me got their orders first. I waited about 30 minutes for just 2 wraps. When I got home I noticed one of the wraps was from another order. Even though I had to wait and got the wrong wrap, everything tasted great and everything was fresh. I think I'll go back another time they're not so busy.

Thanks again to the yelp community for a great recommendation! Stopped by here on the way back to LA from Yosemite and it was definitely a worthwhile stop. Walked in to a very clean little place and greeted by 2 lovely sweet ladies. We got the kefta plate and shawarma plate. It comes with 2 sides of choice and there were A LOT of choices! I seriously wanted and can have all the sides as a meal like what urban plate offers. To the owner if you're reading this, can totally offer a 4-5 sides combo or something for those who wanted a lighter salad option meal. We got the tabbouleh, cucumber salad, tzatziki, and eggplants. They lady offered to allow me to mix cauliflower also to try it out which was super generous and let me and they give a generous portion especially for the price. Although I'm comparing to downtown LA and SGV area plus sales taxes. Their garlic spread/sauce is good but a bit less garlicky than Zankou chicken (if you have tried that, that is). But still good. We also couldn't help ourselves and I got cheese fatayer and baklava. The baklava was not overly soaked with syrup which i prefer more and was delicious. Will definitely return whenever traveling this way. Worth the visit! Parking is plenty

Have been recommended by a few people to try this place and I've been meaning to. I was unfamiliar with the ordering at first and was told to go the other way around like Chipotle in a sense. I got the chicken kebab and the beef kebab plate. Portions were good for the price. All the sides are delicious. Literally can't go wrong with anything you get. The pita bread pairs perfectly with their hummus and garlic potatoes. Sooo good! Now I see why people say this is the best Mediterranean spot in town!

OK, so this place is sort of like a hidden gym in Bakersfield and I accidentally stumble upon it because my husband was craving Mediterranean food so we ordered via phone picked up the food and ate at home and I gotta say the food was 10 out of 10 the beef kebab with rice and your salad was amazing. Customer service was fast and friendly, and the ambiance was great

Great place for Mediterranean food with a lot of choices. Opted for a beef shawarma bowl with baba ganoush. The portions are generous and the beef was full of flavor and perfectly cooked and so was the baba ganoush, it has a nice smoky flavor to it. The bowl also came with toum which was a satisfying amount of garlic. Got this to go and they also provided plastic forks and napkins. Totally would try this place again if I'm in the area.

Lovely Mediterranean music plays in the background. The ambiance is bright and cheery. The delicious aroma surrounds you as soon as you walk in the door. This is what I describe as upscale fast food. The attention to detail and quality of food is how I define that. You order at the counter. I ordered a chicken kabob and a beef kefta. The meats are deliciously spiced and grilled perfectly. I like that they were cooked to order, not mass cooked sitting under a heat lamp. They were served with a Mediterranean hot sauce & humus. You can order meals, bowls, wraps or just sides like I did today. The restaurant is very clean. It is family owned and has been open for 5 years. You can tell they take great pride in their business. The service was prompt & friendly. They have a very nice outdoor seating area as well. I highly recommend Sultan's Mediterranean Grill.

Great food each time I go. The again kabob is also perfectly cooked and worth the wait. The hummus tastes like what you'd eat in the Middle East. Baba ghanoush is scrumptious and slightly smoky flavor. Everything tastes so fresh. So glad we have the restaurant in Bakersfield. The falafel sandwich is just ok. The falafel patties are not spiced enough. The sandwich condiments were missing seasoning. And most importantly I wonder why they don't use pickled turnips in the sandwich. The pickled turnips are a staple for the sandwich. Please include pickled turnips. Ambience is good and there are plenty of tables to sit and enjoy the food. Outside tables are also available .

Excellent food, huge portions, fair prices, friendly service. All you could ask for. I'll come here every time I need food in Bako.

This place is sooo good and has authentic food! This is my partner and I's all time favorite spot for Mediterranean food, and we have tried a good amount of places. Portions are HUGE for what you pay for. We definitely will be coming back.

Food is prepared fresh and very generous portions for a decent price compared to Los Angeles area. I like the fried cauliflower and eggplant. Hummus and baba ghanouj were good. Kebab was good and chicken was really fresh. They cook it for you on the spot so expect to wait 10 minutes. The place was clean but very busy. I did not review the reviews before I came here but now that I'm looking at it it was really good and it deserves 4.5 stars. It's one of the rare places where I see the cashier leave her spot to clean the floor after customers. Many times I go to places and it's all dirty. Nobody cares to clean. Shoot out for this cashier lady who spoke Arabic when I had a few questions for her. Easy parking and easy location.

I ordered the Chicken Schwarma Plate and boy was it monstrous! For a price of only $15, in addition to the schwarma, they gave me rice, potatoes, a choice of two salads, a pita, garlic sauce and pickles. It was a tremendous amount of food and quite tasty. This has got to be one of the best deals in town!

After my daughter begged to come back here, I'm Happy to say that it's back to how I originally enjoyed the place. The food was good , the line moved faster, and the server was friendly. My only complaint was that my food was kind of cold. However, Glad that I can put it back on the list.

The food is here is great. Every friend I've brought here really loves the food. The tahini and hot sauce they put on at the end really is the cherry on top. Everything tastes fresh. If you get your meat kabob-style, it takes awhile to get your food, but it is freshly made. Downside is sometimes they get out of order or your food is given to an Uber Eats driver (Minus the star). However, they are always kind. The place is clean, but sometimes there are packages lying from their deliveries. Normally, it would be 3 stars based on service and ambiance, but the food is so damn good I can't take away another star

The staff is not friendly towards some people, and their service is extremely slow. Their food is good, but their service is terrible.

I have had Sultan's bookmarked for some time. It was bustling when I walked in on Friday afternoon. Right away, I knew I would be better off ordering to-go since it would be unlikely for me to have a table conversation with my family. The staff--while frazzled--are very nice and accommodating. I am not a big meat-eater primarily because I grew up eating halal and kosher and few restaurants in Bako offer this option. In hindsight, I should have come with a partially full belly because the wait time (not the line itself but the preparation and dispensing of food) is incredulous and the fragrances nearly had me chewing my hand off. As for the food, it was quite delicious and great quality. I was expecting pita to eat with my babaganoush but sadly, there was no bread given in our to-go bags. I am not sure if bread is extra? Portions were good although I feel they were skimpy on the meat. The cucumber salad needed a pinch more salt. Being from NYC, I have had my fair share of Halal carts and Sultan's is a fine example of an elevated Halal food cart. Inside decor is clean and cute and loud--with a TV.

We tried sultans for their big platter, and everyone in the party liked the shawerma wrap. They are kind of stingy with the sauces. initially, they offer you one small tiny cup of sauce for a big platter. You have to ask for more. We had a dine in experience for falaeat falafel with rice? They make their own bread, but it is not included in the platter, and you have to pay for it. Their side orders the garlic potatoes, and the eggplant are really good.

Employees please do better! When we were in line we notice one of the girls drop a sharpie inside the humus, she took it out and another lady just scrape some of the top, they continue to use the same dirty sharpie, then I notice how they placed the pitta in top of some dirty rags, main lady notice and took the rags away, the guy cooking didn't know which one was the chicken and the beef bowl until the lady came over and told him he was using the wrong one. My girlfriend order the chicken and I order the #7, my order took a long time and then we notice they were taking pictures of it, we went home with our meal, and let's just say we been dealing with food poisoning for a few days now! Employees please do better and be more clean

This place is a little gem, a little slow with orders but they are fresh and hot. The chicken kabobs are excellent the flavor is really good. The rice is good the pasta salad excellent and the hummus is made fresh and is the bomb. Huge portions 1 dinner is enough for 2 people. My to go place.

I love this place. It's one of the select Mediterranean food restaurants I frequent in town. The food is always absolutely delicious. The customer service is always on point. I have not experienced any rude service since I've started coming here years ago. It's a great place to have lunch with a friend. The there's enough seating inside and outside, but I wouldn't recommend any large parties.

Fun Fact: Sultans means a king or ruler. And let me tell you... Sultans might be the new ruler of mediterranean food in Bakersfield. Ambiance I'd say it's a grab n' go spot. I imagine it's a top easy lunch or dinner option with seating indoor, outdoor or to be taken home. Service Friendly and informative! It's a go through a line experience like Chipotle. You get passed off from person to person, but everyone was in good-spirits. Line I read reviews that the line took a long time. This was not the case for me. It went pretty quick about 10 - 15 minutes. Food There are a supreme amount of options: chicken or beef shawarma, chicken or beef kabobs and a ton of vegetarian choices in the form of salads, dips, sides. Chicken Shawarma Wrap: 5 STARS It was a great portion: filling and flavorful! I was very satisfied with my choice! Going Back? Absolutely, I'll go visit the King of Mediterranean again!

The shawarma here is delicious, but the chicken is always a bit cold. It would be amazing if they could cut the chicken fresh and put it straight onto the bread--this small change would make it way better!

Was able to try food here after it was highly recommended by a friend. Being a beef-lover, I had the kefta skewer plate and it was good! Meat was tender, juicy and absolutely flavorful! The dish came with garlic potatoes which were equally bomb. I had hummus and cucumber salad to complete the combo. It came with rice and bread, too! They cook most of it to order so do expect some wait time. Food was worth the wait though. I was pretty full after eating about half of the order. The serving size was well worth the price. I now know where to come back when Mediterranean food cravings hit!

Stopped here for lunch based on a friend's recommendation while driving from the Bay Area to Joshua Tree, and this honestly turned out to be the highlight of the road trip. I ordered the #3 CHICKEN SHAWARMA PLATE ($15), which came with a generous serving of rice, a few garlic potatoes, your choice of two sides, and a pita. For my sides, I opted for one of baba ghanoush, and one split half cauliflower/half eggplant. Everything was good, but I especially loved the beautifully caramelized, roasted cauliflower and smoky, creamy baba ghanoush that added great flavor when mixed in with the rice. The pita was a bit of a letdown -- very thin and dry, and more reminiscent of pita crackers rather than pita bread. However, it went well as a vehicle for the dips, including the complementary scoop of garlic spread, and I completely cleaned out every last drop and grain of rice. Overall, ordering was very efficient given the assembly line setup, and the plate feels like good value for such tasty, diverse food. If I lived nearby I'd definitely be a regular and come back to try all the other sides.

The service was splendid! Very kind and quick to attend. We have yet to find a Mediterranean place that competes with our favorite spot in SD, but Sultans is our perfect match! Very traditional and light ambiance! The food was amazing and so fresh!

Went to Sultans for lunch and it was quite crowded and, after ordering food, I could tell why. Ordering was fast and easy. I ordered the chicken schwarma bowl and my daughter ordered the chicken kebab bowl. Both came with a generous portion and a pasta salad - all delicious. The food was prepared quickly, the place was clean and orderly and the service was spot-on. Highly recommended for a good meal

Food is delicious, service is friendly/efficient, and portions are generous. This spot has remained my favorite place to eat for years and now I decided I should write a review. It was the last restaurant we ate at in 2020 before the big lockdown and I am glad they have stayed local and popular. I enjoy the peace of mind that i'm eating well prepared food. Absolutely a joy to eat and love all the options they have 10/10.

The food there was really good. The price is reasonable. Can't complain with the service. Lots of side dish choices . We stopped there on the way home from vacation. Glad we did. Wish they have a restaurant here in Los Angeles. Was lunch time when we went there. Really busy. You can tell people love the food.
