"A family‑run property on the edge of Aguas Calientes close to the bus pickup points; Robinson praises it: “They have spacious and comfortable suites, spa services, and some of the best food in the region.” It’s presented as a convenient and comfortable option for visitors who want proximity to the transport that serves the archaeological site." - Amanda Ogle

"This five-star property, overlooking the Sacred Valley from its perch alongside the Urubamba River, could rest solely on its stylish-yet-authentic design. However, the Sumaq Machu Picchu also taps into the fascination with its namesake’s more intangible attraction—spiritual energy. While many hotels will help arrange a Machu Picchu guide (now a requirement to visit), Sumac offers shamans, who don’t just teach you about the history and architecture but also incorporate healing rituals and background on the Incas’ mystical connections to the site. Accommodations (59 deluxe rooms, two suites, and one imperial suite) were refreshed in 2016 to incorporate design elements that suggest the four points of the Incan cross, binding modern luxury to Peruvian heritage. Elegantly appointed in crimson, gold, and dark polished wood, they also feature generously sized bathrooms, done up in soft golden marble. Of the 62 rooms, 32 have views of the valley and river—you can request these, and you should. Also on-site is an exceptional restaurant, which highlights local ingredients in its authentic Andean cuisine. A not-to-be-missed breakfast is included in your rate, as is either lunch or dinner."
Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel, Aguas Calientes, Peru - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler
"Aguas Calientes, the laidback launching point to Machu Picchu was ripe for a five-star hotel, and Sumaq happily exceeds expectations with 62 large wood-beamed suites, sophisticated décor, service and knockout culinary, including the obligatory Pisco Sour. Built to echo the Andean cross, the property is also deeply imbued in the culture and mystique of the area – to that end, Shamans are on call for private tours."
From the pre-arrival organisation of tours to the collection of bags from the station at the end, this was hands down the best organised and most helpful hotel experience I have ever had and everything in between was just as perfect. |Pre-arrival we were able to organise our guide tickets and bus travel up to MP and on the day the hotel staff made sure we were in the right queue at the right time ahead of the guide joining us. He was brilliant and deserves his own review! |The room was a river view with balcony and was lovely, comfortable and spacious. |Dinner was included, another highlight. Food was excellent and the staff obviously and justifiably proud of the local cuisine which they would talk through when served. |Breakfast was excellent, and whilst we were there as a couple, the hotel had a brilliant kids breakfast station which I’m sure would delight younger guests. |A fantastic stay and I would whole heartedly recommend it. Never felt so welcome or so looked after. |We had booked another hotel, the now insanely overpriced one at the entrance to MP but they cancelled on us (closed apparently but seemed open when we were there) and honestly I’m grateful, saved a fortune and doubtless we had a better experience. Great job from the staff at Sumaq, wonderful stay to match a once in a lifetime experience.

We had a great stay at Sumaq Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was amazing. The staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive. We had a mix up with our reservation with the number of people and the staff quickly helped resolve it.||The hotel itself is extremely comfortable with our family of 5 fitting in one of the larger rooms with multiple beds. The meals were good and we especially want to give a big shout-out to our waiter George, who was absolutely fantastic and kind, and also helped bring a meal to our room for our son who was not feeling well.||Perfect place to stay for visiting Machu Picchu. We had an early visit to Machu Picchu with unexpected rain and we were completely soaked. We had already checked out but the staff was very accommodating and we were able to return to shower, change into dry clothes and have breakfast before catching our train back to Cusco.

This is an amazing hotel. We were greeted at the train station by Gerson who was so friendly and helpful. He helped us make it possible to go see Machu Picchu since we were to late to get tickets online. He showed us the offical ticket office and secured transport for all our luggage to the hotel and made the whole experiance amazing. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious, clean with scenic views and the best thing is that you can have a door open out into the balcony and there is a fly door so you won't get bitten in the night. The breakfast buffet has great variety and the dinner which was included in my stay had choice of starters, main courses and desserts, we all loved our food. I would recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to Machu Picchu this is a hotel with next level service. Sylvía and kids from Iceland.

What a great experience! From the reception with cocktails, they offered the kids a cooking class, the rooms are big and comfortable, clean and have all amenities needed. What really made our stay a great one was the staff, from the host, bellboy, chef to waiters. All of them were very attentive and helpful. The place and food are top of the class, if you plan on going to Machu Picchu stay here! 100% recommended.

Sumaq Machu Picchu has a great location near the river and close to the bus station to Machu Picchu, which is very convenient. The rooms are comfortable and well-decorated, and the views are beautiful.
However, for the high price, the overall service and experience did not fully meet expectations. While some staff were kind and helpful, service was inconsistent at times — especially at the restaurant and front desk. The food was good, but not outstanding for the price level.
It’s a nice hotel, but it feels more like a 3-star experience with luxury pricing. With some improvements in service and attention to detail, it could be a much better value.

Faustino was amazing! Excellent service and the food was delicious! We had the trout ceviche which was tasty and the desserts were out of this world. My daughter said the pineapple sorbet was the best she ever had and the chocolate volcano fondant rocked!

Our server Kevin was great! He told us all about traditional Peruvian foods, the different types of Andean potatoes, and Muña tea. The service was efficient and very nice. We highly recommend the quinoa-coated chicken and lomo saltado.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Ana Flores for her outstanding customer service, clear and timely communication, and dedication to ensuring everything went smoothly. Thank you as well to Jonathan Ysimura for stepping in during Ana’s absence, providing thoughtful follow-up, and promptly addressing my questions and concerns.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire staff at Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel for your exceptional hospitality and for making my mother feel so welcomed and cared for during her birthday stay. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about the experience, the service, and the warmth of the team.
Words cannot express how grateful I am for the care and attention shown to my mother. It truly means the world to me.
Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel will absolutely be my top choice for any future travel, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and heartfelt stay. Five out of five stars—without hesitation!
