I was on a coach tour of Shetland and we called into the hotel for a soup and sandwich lunch. They get quite a lot of coach tours and one was leaving as we arrived. They were geared up for a quick turn round and we weren't left waiting. ||Service was very slick and we didn't have long to wait before the bowls of steaming soup arrived. There was a choice of vegetable or chicken and leek. Both were tasty. Sandwiches were et out on large platters for us to go and help ourselves. There was a choice of six different fillings and white or brown bread. The sandwiches had been freshly made and there was plenty of filling. ||Meals like this can often be disappointing, but not this time. Staff were lovely too.||This still feels very much a traditional and old fashioned hotel.||It's a lovely location next to Jarlshof and over looking the sea. If you are lucky you may see dolphins in the bay and there are Puffins nesting on Sumburgh Head...

We were at Sumburgh hotel last night for my parents 60th wedding anniversary and everything was perfect.
The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and well cooked with huge portions.
Big thanks to Martin the manager for helping with the cake and taking photos for us too.
A very professional service overall and would highly recommend the hotel to anyone having a special occasion.
Thanks again!

Evening meal - booked ahead to reserve a table (recommended)
Staff were welcoming & friendly.
Good choice on menu - had mixed grill & mushroom tagliatelle
Mixed grill had excellent lamb chop (cooked perfectly) black pudding (super tasty) gammon, sausage & steak (not so good)
Great location

Food was very limited choice, but my baked potato with beans and cheese was great, especially for £6, but the cheese and tomato quiche was poorly heated in the microwave and was partially cold. For the price we paid we couldn't really complain, with free parking and the views it'll do for a quick lunch.

This a mixed review so let's start with the positives - incredible location adjacent to Jarlhof and a short walk to Sumburgh Head for great wildlife spotting (e.g. puffins etc.). A few minutes from the airport and great views from the hotel. The food and service in the restaurant were fine and the breakfast buffet good. The less positive aspects are more to do with the condition of the bedroom that we stayed in - tired, very soft bed, some damaged furniture and underwhelming shower room. Some room refurbishment seems to be in progress so perhaps we were just unlucky.

Surprised to find out this is a hotel. Our tour bus parked here as we visited Jarlshof. I had assumed that the building was the local manor house or was in some way connected to the historical site. (It might be). I wonder how they feel about having tour buses appear when the cruise ships come in. :) Certainly fit the appearance of a stately country manor.

The Sumburgh hotel is situated at the south end of the island between the airfield and the lighthouse and close to two historic sites of early settlers. We popped in for coffee but did not stay the night. Staff were super friendly and provided good local knowledge. I am told the rooms are nice and the food is excellent.

Large old fashioned hotel and close to the airport so a convenient place to stay.|The room was large as was the bathroom which you don’t seem to get in modern hotels.|This was a busy week so the hotel was full and as a result it so easy to dine at a time I like, so went early.|The menu was a good mix from light choices to a hearty meal so no complaints from me and there was the standard choices at breakfast.|It was good to be able to have an early breakfast so that you could get on the road.|Overall nothing fancy but no complaints

We stopped here for a tour of nearby ruins of the Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement
and we stopped into the hotel for a snack.
We shared the Tomato Basil soup and Chicken Mayo salad. Both were nice, though we had ordered the Egg Mayo sandwich.
